One of the cooking achievements to be added to the game in Wrath of the Lich King. For Alliance players, please see the Horde Version. This achievement encompasses a plethora of real-world references, not least its title being reference to the album "Hail to the Thief" by English alternative band Radiohead (or, as you'll read in JarBreaker's comment below, actually a reference to "Hail to the Chief", the official anthem of the President of the US, which Radiohead's offering is almost certainly in reference to - for missing this, I blame living in the wrong hemisphere).

Upon completing this achievement, players will be able to display the title "Chef" before their character name.

To complete this achievement, players are required to complete the following criteria:

Captain Rumsey's Lager. (That's pronounced lah-grr - Captain Rumsey does not suffer from lag). Brew up some of Captain Rumsey's Lager. Simply achieved by obtaining the recipe, currently only available from the daily fishing quests in Outland, and brewing 'dat sucka up.
Sous Chef: Learn 100 cooking recipes. Rather self-explanatory, and part of an achievement-line involving learning 25/50/75/100/160 recipes. The title 'Sous Chef' is a quasi-French term used to denote lower-level chefs, often responsible for doing preparation/menial tasks their superior would choose not to.
Dinner Impossible. Present a Great Feast in each of the battlegrounds. Sure to be much-loved by downtrodden mages tired of feeding their battlegrounds day-in, day-out.
The Outland Gourmet. Cook each of the Outland cooking recipes listed here. As far as I'm aware, these are all the recipes added in BC, some being rare-drops, some not.

This achievement should give you a Chef's hat, or a Chef's apron (as a tabard).

"Sous chef

The sous-chef de cuisine (under-chef of the kitchen) is the direct assistant of the executive chef and is second in command. They may be responsible for scheduling, and filling in when the executive chef is off-duty. The Sous Chef will also fill in for, or assist the chef de partie (line cooks) when needed. Smaller operations may not have a sous chef, while larger operations may have multiple."

Sadly it seems this achievement is not yet obtainable, since one of these requirements The Northrend Gourmet requires 45 different kind food from Northrend recipes to be cooked, yet only 42 Northrend recipes are available in game right now.

anyone notice that wowhead put "critter gitter" twice. if you hover over the first one it says "our daily bread" but the link says "critter gitter."

Seems fixed in 3.0.8 from what I've just seen on the PTR. The 3rd gourmet has dropped to 44, fish feast is available for 5 daily tokens and kungaloosh is learnable from the washed up mage in Dalaran sewers.

Think it will stay at 45, as they have added an additional recipe - Worg Tartar:

* Worg Tartare (3 x Dalaran Cooking Awards)- Restores 15000 health and 12960 mana over 30 sec. If you spend at least 10 seconds eating you will become well fed and gain 40 Hit Rating and 40 Stamina for 1 hour. This delicacy is best served raw and thus requires no cooking fire.

Don't think you'll catch me eating too much raw Worg meat.

In 3.0.8, as some people have already mentioned, 3 new recipes are added, and the Northrend Gourmet achievement is still 45 recipes.

A note on getting Fish Feast cooked, as this requires 450 skill: I was scrambling to level my cooking to 450 before the patch to get my title as fast as possible. However, after going on the test realm, I noticed a sneaky change: Both small and gigantic feast don't go green until 450 anymore. So instead of wasting a ton of spices, just stock up on the meats for one of these (small is smart, as it shares 2 of 3 of the meats with fish feast) and be ready for the patch.

Obtained this title just a few minutes ago. Biggest pain by far was getting the 160 recipes. With the addition of the three new recipes in 3.0.8, Fish Feast, Worg Tartare, and Kungaloosh, I was able to hit 161 recipes. To my knowledge I have every one, except Thistle Tea and Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops.

There is a very helpful list posted here, which states that it is for horde, but you'll need to be transferring recipes from one faction to another regardless.

Edit: Another list here show's a complete list of all the recipes to compare your own list against. And the Ackis Recipe List addon can be used in-game to find your missing recipes as well.

For those of you who have managed to nab this wonderfully challenging achievement I think you should dress the part!

I just picked it up on my Tauren druid (sadly not the best looking "chef" race....more apt to be something found in the kitchen...hanging from a meathook) but this is what I'm using at current:

One blank guild tabard, purchased by a city tabard vendor (apronish in appearance), or
One sleeveless T-shirt thusly labelled
One plain silk headband
and your choice of simple linen pants or kilt

Makes for great roleplaying chef clothing imho.

For "weapons" I vary between the "Dark Herring" and "Cookie's Tenderizer"

If you haven't been that active in cooking in TBC and you're going for this title, start doing the TBC dailies as soon as possible, as you will need several random recipe drops for The Outland Gourmet from the dailies.

I only missed one recipe, but it became the limiting factor in getting the Chef title. I finally got the recipe after two weeks of doing the dailies, so that's not too bad, but in hindsight I wished I would have started earlier.

Completing this achievement requires accumulating enough Dalaran Cooking Awards to purchase all of the recipes available from the vendor next to your faction's Cooking Trainer in Dalaran - 74 Awards to purchase all 24 recipes, 174 in total to get the Chef's Hat as well.

Going for this for about 2 weeks now and got all of the recipes, but still haven't gotten two of the dailies (mustard dogs and one of the outland ones). Can't believe that this is all that's holding me up when I was paranoid about getting stormchops and the cake. :P

Don't forget the secret cooking achievement:

Kitchen Nightmare!

With Chef title selected, don your Chef's Hat and verbally /berate all Chefs, Cooks, Cooking Trainers, Sous Chefs, and Apprentice Chefs available to your faction.

Remember: Switching factions negates all previous berating, and you must start again with your current faction!

This achievement now requires the 45 recipe version of Northrend Gourmet, up from 30. This was confirmed prior to patch 5.2, and still requires 45 after the patch.
