This companion counts toward the following achievements:

- Can I Keep Him? (10 Points)
- Plenty of Pets (10 Points)
- Plethora of Pets (10 Points)
- Shop Smart, Shop Pet...Smart (10 Points + Reward: Reeking Pet Carrier)
- Lil' Game Hunter (10 Points + Reward: Little Fawn's Salt Lick)

The companion pet collection achievements earn you a total of 50 achievement points, and two unique non-combat pets.

3.1 Patch:

Leashes and Grooming Kits do not work on him, but Happy Pet Snacks and the Fetch Ball DO (screenshots submitted).

This "pet" also counts toward your pet-collection achievements.

The Argent Squire will also cheer and laugh when you win a joust.

The squire has some pretty cute animations. When idle, he will do things like scratch his head or pick up something from the ground, wipe it on his pants and look at it again. He also has a different swimming animation than human toons (from the look of it, he has probably been taught by a dog). But best of all is his stumbling clumsy way of running. Aww!

Small glitch with this fella. You must have champion status with at least two factions. When you summon your Squire you can of course have him wear the standard of your choice. But if someone nearby also summons their squire, you can talk to their squire, ask them to wear a different banner than your first choice, and YOUR squire will suddenly be sporting two banners. I reckon if it works for two banners, it will work for all five. Although it may be a while to build all that up for a glitch that Blizz can hotfix in a day.

In 3.2 you will be able to get an upgraded squire:

As any good squire should, this upgraded squire now has a mount and can be called forth every eight hours for three minutes of duty. The upgrade cost is 150 Champion Seals and your squire will also offer one of three services: bank, mail, or vendor access.

Does anyone else care to wonder why the Argent Crusade is handing out small children to complete strangers, only to have them jammed in to peoples back packs and drag around the world to strange places, in constant danger. I mean he doesn't even get to loot things, much less roll... I guess it could be worse... Or just given to a priest.

To upgrade this to your bank/mailbox/trader you have to get exalted with all the factions and become a champion of them (basically you have to become a Crusader). Then you have to pay Dame Evniki Kapsalis a visit, who's in the big neutral tent and pay 150 Champions' Seals for an Argent Pony Bridle, this will give you the achievement and your upgrade.

I had my Squire out while doing the Argent Tournament dailies, and after jousting with a Champion I accidentally discovered something cool. The squire will cheer/laugh if you win the jousting match, and cry if you lose. It's like having your own one-person cheering section!

Okay, I have completed all the valiant quests, and am exalted with all alliance and everyone in WotLK except sons of hodir and frostborn dwarves, and yet still cannot get the quest for the squire. What am I missing? any help appreciated!

Argent Squire now makes noises when clicked. He chuckles, mutters (sounds like 'hello' and an understanding 'oh') and even wolf-whistles. There's an odd tapping along with it, not sure if it's meant to be his pack shuffling around or what.

He's actually kind of creepy now.

I just learned to summon this companion and I cant open bank or vendor when clicking on it. I have all reputations and I can only have squire hold baner. Any help?

Im not partial to companions. This one, however, is an exception. I love having my little Adso (i called him Adso after Adso of Melk, young apprentice to William of Baskerville from the Name of the rose novel) in battegrounds; a proud Alliance standart carrier is just epic :)

Moreover, with the Argent Pony Bridle u can upgrade him to either vendor, bank or mailbox. I couldnt count how many times i could have used such a "convenience store" (literally) during doing stuff in the wilderness to not need to bother myself with going back to city accross the whole zone to empty my bags.

The only thing i find really annoying about him is the trumpet which sounds whenever u summon him. Not only is a horrible sound, but is exceptionally noisy if the squire summons too close to your character. Id give anything to to turn this effect off...

WoWDB shows that in MoP beta this companion is also considered a "battle pet" and is of "humanoid" type. While it does not have any abilities available yet, it is possible that the squire will be useable in the pet battles.

EDIT: As of the latest Q&A, it is likely that this companion will, afterall, not be useable for the pet battles.

You said earlier that not all pets can take part in pet battle system. What are the exceptions?

Currently the exceptions are pets with humanoid children models.

It should be noted that the Argent Squire after being sent on an errand will become Tired and you will have to wait 4 hours before being able to utilize him again.

I generally use this (in conjunction with Argent Pony Bridle) when I'm trying to clear up bag space, far from a city (like in a dungeon). Other items you could use for the same purpose include:

Guild Page / Guild Herald, if the requirements to buy have been met.
Mobile Banking, if your guild's high enough lvl.
Jeeves, if you're an engineer / one's present.
Reins of the Traveler's Tundra Mammoth / Reins of the Traveler's Tundra Mammoth, if you're able to mount.

This pony is bound on the character and not accountwide. The same with all functions. They are only for the character active who bought it.

I find this and the Argent Gruntling very helpful as a mailbox when bidding on things on the Blackmarket Auction House (For collecting gold from undercuts when my item is on 'short' duration). It's great for me personally because it saves me a trip to the other mailbox and doesn't show others bidding that you need to get your gold back in order to bid :)

Regarding faction change and this pet and alliance version

Original Question:
I faction changed from horde to alliance and I can no longer use my argent gruntling because I am now alliance. Why did I not receive an argent squire since I was already fully championed with tournament.

In game ticket response from GM:
Sorry for the confusion this issue with your Argent Gruntling caused. However, pets that have been learned do not convert after a faction change. If you wish to have the Alliance version, you will need to champion yourself with the Argent Tournament again and purchase that pet.

*update
The GM was able to apply the proper faction pet to my character, since the quests were not available to me since I was awarded the "Exalted Champion of" achievements. However a ticket needs to be created for this correction to be made to the character.

COOLDOWN TIMER on bank/trader function is shown as a debuff on the squire. Target him, and mouseover the icon under his health bar to see the time remaining stated in the tooltip.

Carefull with faction change

After 3 tickets they still can't restore my quest progression and refuse to give me the pet. Why? Who knows... Some lines from one of the GM letters:

GM: I'm sorry to say, nothing in which we've tried has had any effect. We are not able to make questing possible for you sadly. It's true that the bug has effected many players for some time, sadly however in your case there is nothing we can do and we must ask you to submit a bug report please.

Let me tell you my story.

I originally completed the quest to acquire the Argent Squire on my Human Priest main back during Wrath, in addition to completing all of the other champion quests and buying the Argent Pony Bridle.

Partway through Cataclysm, I faction-swapped the Priest to the Horde. I did this knowing full well that a) my Argent Tournament progress would be reset and b) my squire (converted to an Argent Gruntling) would no longer have the Pony Bridle's capabilities. It wasn't an issue at the time, and I opted not to grind out the quests again to earn the Pony Bridle for the gruntling.

When the account-wide mounts/pets conversion took place in 2012, I noticed that my Horde characters now all had the same access to the Argent Gruntling. My Alliance characters, however, did not have access to the Argent Squire. Evidence at the time suggested that unless I actively had the Squire on some character when the account-wide conversion took place, I wouldn't have it. Again, this wasn't an issue at the time.

Some months into Mists, I converted my Priest main back to the Alliance, and here's where the issue came up. All of my Alliance-side quest progress at the Argent Tournament was restored (as rightfully happens when you reverse a faction transfer) but I noticed that while I still had the Argent Gruntling available on all my Horde characters, I still did not have the Argent Squire available, as he apparently did NOT convert when I reversed the faction change AFTER the account-wide conversion event in 2012. And because the Squire was a quest reward, there was no way to reacquire him. I submitted a ticket and was told that this was a known issue, but that at the time, there was no solution to the problem.

Fast forward to last week. With the knowledge that the Pony Bridle was character-specific but the Argent Squire would be account-wide, I decided to take another character through the week of quests it would take to earn the Squire. I can now report that after re-acquiring the Squire and adding him to the account-wide collection, my Priest main's ability to summon the squire AND have him offer the services granted by the Argent Pony Bridle has been restored.

Hope this helps someone who may have faction-changed at an inconvenient time. Thanks for reading. ^_^

This post is for those of you who just want to complete enough quests to get the Argent Squire/Argent Gruntling for your pet collections. My main toon is Horde and I've had this pet since wrath. This expansion though, I wanted to get the Alliance one for my pet collection.

It takes 8 days of dailies to obtain. You need to do all opening quests in order to have the dailies appear for you. Then you must complete Up to the Challenge which takes 3 days (5 seals/day). Then The Aspirant's Challenge. Then A Valiant's Charge which takes 5 days (5 seals/day). Then A Valiant's Challenge. Then you will receive A Champion Rises. You simply have to hand in this quest to obtain your pet.

I did not list the dailies involved to complete the story line quests but you should note that if you are ONLY interested in obtaining the Argent Squire/Gruntling, you DO NOT have to complete the dailies that are in the main tent on the West side of the tournament grounds. You only need to complete the ones in the smaller, single faction tents on the East side of the stadium. You will not receive any Aspirant's or Valiant's seals from the main tent. Only Champion seals. If you wish to collect mounts, Pony Bridle or other tournament pets, you should definitely complete those ones as well. I did not need them because as I said I completed all the achievement's and collected all mounts and pets the tournament had to offer in the past on Horde side. This post is intended for player's who ONLY WANT the opposing factions Squire/Gruntling.

ULTIMATE WOW INDEPENDENCE UTILITY GUIDE.

RACE - MECHAGNOME:
Mechagnomes are small visual targets for PvP, just like regular Gnomes.
1. Skeleton pinkie - lockpicking (no need for rogues).
2. Mastercraft - personal anvil, cooking fire, forge + all profession tools.
3. Hyper Organic Light Originator - a worse "Mirror Image" with threat reduction. Good for PvE escapes.

CLASS - MAGE:
Powerful DPS with a "tank" pet if Frost spec (powerful PvP spec).
1. Invisibility - useful to flee, unaggro, scout or pass by NPCs and players. It's not Stealth, though.
2. Remove Curse - removes curses (useful against Warlocks).
3. Spellsteal - steals usefull buffs.
4. Mirror Image - useful for escaping PvE and sometimes PvP.
5. Ice Block - protects from damage.
6. Blink - removes movement impair and if used in time, avoids fall damage. Plus can leap gaps.
7. Slow Fall - magical parachute for self and others.
8. Conjure Refreshments - free food for self and players.
9. Teleport and Portal - major cities and places, including Ancient Dalaran (useful for Ally)

MOUNTS:
+ Reins of the Grand Expedition Yak
+ Reins of the Mighty Caravan Brutosaur
+ Riding Turtle
+ Vial of Sands.
+ Inflatable Mount Shoes - walk on water (no need for DK, Shaman or Priest buff).
3 seats mount - travel with two players (and fly with one through Vial of Sands)
Yak: Vendor/Repair + Transmog.

Turtle: navigate on water fast and goes on land without dismounting (no need for Druid aquatic form).

3. Can make cauldrons for multiple uses for other players.
4. Can craft Vial of Sands mount (flying 2 passenger mount).

Noteworthy potions:
01. Spiritual Anti-Venom - cures poisons. Useful agains mobs and rogues.
02. Potion of Slow Fall/Sea Mist Potion/Avalanche Elixir - protects agains fall damage.
03. Potion of Concealment - shadowmeld without being a Night Elf.
04. Potion of Unhindered Passing - immunity to stuns and movement impairing.
05. Elixir of Greater Water Breathing - water breathing (no need for Shaman and Warlock buffs)
06. Elixir of Detect Demon - shows demons on minimap
07. Elixir of Detect Undead - shows undead on minimap
08. Elixir of Detect Lesser Invisibility - detects INVISIBLE targets (ex. mages)

3. High Test Eternium Fishing Line - +5 fishing
4. Glow Worm - + 100 fishing
5. Nat Pagle's Extreme Anglin' Boots - + 5 fishing.
6. Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat - + 5 fishing and free +75 lure.
7. Formula: Enchant Gloves - Angler - + 5 fishing enchant for gloves.
8. Hook of the Master Angler - you become a fish, swimming faster and breathing underwater.

D-) Cooking:
1. Can make individual and collective food for self and players, some of which have buffs that give Well Fed.
2. Cooking fire gives Spirit and it's cool to wait around for people.

E-) Archaeology:
1. Discover rare items with useful and/or fun utilities.
2. Discover gear and mount recipes, such as Vial of Sands, craftable by Alchemists.

Noteworthy items:
1. Headdress of the First Shaman - essentially a Shaman's Far Sight. Good for scouting.
2. The Last Relic of Argus - random teleport.
3. Sanguinating Totem - health leech every 1 min 30 secs. Essentially a Warlock's Drain Life.

The horde counterpart to this is Argent Gruntling.

If you are wondering why it doesn't yet have a mailbox, it's because you need to upgrade it with an item you purchase that only becomes available after earning the right tor represent all of your faction's races in the Argent Tournament. It's five days of dailies per race and, so, 25 days worth of dailies total. You then need 150 Champion's Seal to purchase the item.

So, you get the pet way before then, but it does you no good (purely aesthetic, not even a battle pet) until you get this upgrade.

You can use Magical Pet Biscuit and Magical Saucer at the same time on this guy and he'll be huge and just look incredibly stupid (in the best way) floating around in the air on the disc. Really fun in raids.

Kind of hoped it would become available when unlocking Crusader title etc but its just the faction cities, a bit of a shame imo.
