At the pond at 38,22 I attempted to fish at lv300 +20 (Big Iron Fishing Pole) +75 (Baubles) and couldn't catch. I returned at 320 base fishing and with the +95 I only missed about 20-30% of casts. Every consecutive point after I noticed a higher success rate. At 325 +95 I pretty rarely miss catches.
At this spot you catch mostly Barbed Gill Trout, but also catch many Spotted Feltail as well as the Golden Darter. I haven't caught anything else here yet. At this level at 01:00ish server time it took me 10 minutes to catch 5 Golden Darters.

after spending 2 hours flying around the streams of terokar forest I only found one school of darter up at any one time on about a 20-30 min respawn there are several felltail pool spawns but these are fairly useles. Basically you are better off just fishing in one spot for 30-40 min then take a lap around the forest to find any pools that respawned
aporx locs for 2 spawns are 60,34 and 60,38

From about 6 Golder Darter schools i got 8 Golden Darters. Kept getting Motes of Water, Inscriped Scrollcases and those damn Enourmas Trout and Feltail all the time, might have just been bad luck but i got 5 Goldenscale Vendorfish aswell.

As previously posted tho, fishing from the pool and not schools will yield more Golden Darters

Does anyone know the best time to fish these? I know that for some fish, there are four 6-hour long periods which have an effect on how easy they are to catch (I think these are 3:00-9:00 and 9:00-3:00 am and pm, but they could be 6-12/12-6). At 8:30 pm server time, only 2 out of 50 fish caught were Golden Darters, so I'm hoping there's a better time to fish for them.

I believe it's actually faster to catch these fish from schools rather than plain water. I found a lot of schools of darters when flying over the rivers of Terokkar, which yeld between 2 and 6 darters each.

I fished them near the alliance stronghold for some time, when I was training my fishing skill, and while the drop rate is decent, you will mostly catch a lot of useless fish (about 60-70% in my experience).

Besides that, it's extremely boring and mind numbling to fish plain water in a static spot for hours, while I find it's pretty cool to look for schools of fish along the river and set up a good angling to catch the fish the fastest you can.

There are several things you can learn to improve your fishing when fishing schools of fish, and so it's always a real "game", unlike fishing in a static spot where you have absolutly nothing to do, just cast, loot, cast, loot, cast, loot and finally fall asleep.

In order to fish the schools of fish effectively, you have to learn their locations, be carefull to the wildlife around you and learn to cast the most effectively. You have to watch the river carefully when flying over it to fly the fastest you can without missing the schools. Also always fish every school of fish you meet, be it feltail or darters as they share their spawn locations. If you fish only the schools of darters, you will quickly end up with mostly schools of feltail...

I'm not sure the time of the day matter for these, I fished them this morning between 10 am and 11 am and got several stacks of darters and feltails.

Also feltails aren't the most useless thing around, as the +30 stamina food is a bit more tricky to get.

There is a small pond right outside the east wall of Shatt, next to the doorway in. I'm a lvl 48 priest and this is a good place to catch Golden Darter and Feltail while at a level to low to even leave the city. Good gold made here, lol. Caught 25 Golden Darter in little over an hour.

Even caught the Goldenscale Vendorfish here once, lol.

started with 351 base skills with +20 Pole and +75 Lure, near the Alliance FP in town, cords near 58.5,60.5. Here's a little summary what I caught.

Server time : 14:58 to 15:30
Fishing Time: Over 30mins
Golden Darter : 25
Barbed Gill Trout : 57
Spotted Feltail : 17
Inscribed Scrollcase : 1

Ended up at base skills lvl 359

I think Blizzard has an obsession with the number 490. Once you get 490 fishing you will never see the message "Your fish got away!".
I have maxed my fishing at 527 =)

Seems to me that every day between 1500-1600 the odds for chatching one of these increases. I fish them right outside Stonebreak Hold everyday and it never fails for me.

This isn't tested thouroughly.

Sitting on the dock at Lake Jorune (Terokkar; 45,40) is where I've been the most successful with these so far with about a 50% catch rate. At 400 fishing skill I was unable to cast into this water but at 500 I didn't seem to lose any fish.

P.S. You must have a flying mount to get to this location.

I experienced a much higher drop rate in the three lakes where Furious Crawdads caan be fished. Something close to ~50% as opposed to ~26% in the rivers and other water in Terrokar.

The screenshot is hilarious. One night I fished up 18 Golden Darter in about 30 minutes. Went back the next day and only got 4 in about the same time.

Golden Darter can now be fished in Zangamarsh AND Terokkar Forest in the "Brackfish Mixed School"

There are also schools called "School of Darter" around Terokkar Forest.

Although not the highest drop rate, Lake Jorune is probably the best place to fish for these if you have a flying mount.

If you want to fly up and down the rivers, looking for them, then that's all very well and good but I only fish these to cook & sell so I want to do so easily.

The water around Skettis supposedly has a higher drop rate but there are lots of nasty things there that want to hurt me. So I go to Lake Jorune & just have a nice relaxing fish.

375 skill, +25 rod, +3 line, +10 Captain Rumsey's Lager & +100 fishing hooks. Can easily get 20+ in 20 mins (duration of 2 lures). 20 Golden Fish sticks go for 30-40g (depending on which day of the week you put them on the AH). Yes, you can probably earn more in the same time doing other things, but you will be hard pressed to earn it as easily. Put some tunes on, grab a coffee and relax and earn some gold.

Also there are 3 spawn points for Highland Mixed School of fish up there. These drop Golden Darters, Furious Crawdad, Inscribed Scrollcase & Curious Crates (maybe other stuff too, I'm going on personal experience).

with a skill of 500 (375 skill, +25 rod and +100 lure)

fished for 40 minutes, open casts, and caught:

A very worthwhile catch.
Although these guys aren't as common as other fish in Outland, they are way more profitable. On my realm, a stack of Golden Fish Sticks sell for ~30 gold, which is pretty easy money.

To anyone continuosly doing cooking dailies, always go for Barrel of Fish once you've got all the cooking recipes - if you get a bunch of these you've earned yourself an additional quest in gold.

I found it a lot easier to fish these in Zangarmarsh from the Brackfish Mixed Pools, but maybe that's just me. I have seen more pools in Zangarmarsh than Terokkar, and you do not need as much skill to fish these in Zangarmarsh. Just my opinion.

Between 14:55 and 15:15 in Silmyr lake, I fished up 20 of these in about 40 casts. Very fast drop rate for me with only 305 fishing.

Summary of Open Water findings in Terokkar Forest:

00:00 to 06:00 - Unknown
06:00 to 12:00 - Catch rate equal to Spotted Feltail, i.e. half that of Barbed Gill Trout
12:00 to 18:00 - NONE
18:00 to 24:00 - Catch rate equal to Barbed Gill Trout

This and previous posts here confirm that this is another of those time-of-the-day sensitive fish.

Very surprised that (archived) El's Extreme Angling and elsewhere are silent about this.
