Despite the fact you can kill yourself using this, Dark Runes and Demonic runes are one of the core consumables a mana user needs in raids. As the cooldown does not share with other potions, Demonic/Dark runes are amazing items not to mention easily farmable.

These runes are needed for a few tailoring things, most notabley the Robe of the Void. I have found the best place to farm for then is the lower satyr camp in Felwood that is near Jadefire run. Even though the drop rate is a little bit lower, the mobs there are easier to kill and you are much less likely to be farmed by other people in my experience.

Items BoP cannot be picked up because of some addons, so check ur addons before farming these runes.

I thought I would go ahead and use one and I was at about 500 more health than it takes from you. I then found out that this thing has the ability to crit you. So I then got to do a nice corpse run. Warning for everyone out there.

Great to use as a shadow priest (or if you're grouped with a shadow priest), because you just ve-mindflay your way right on up.

These share a cooldown with other usable non-potion consumables (healthstones, fel blossoms, Felwood plant cleansing rewards, etc., etc.), including the almost-identical Dark Rune that drops in Scholomance. (The only difference between the two is where they drop, the icon, and the fact that these are Bind on Pickup and Dark Runes do not bind.)

It does not, however, share a cooldown with potions, including mana potions.

As such, it's still worthwhile for an endgame healer to farm these in Felwood for use when OOM and no other sources of mana are immediately available. The mana boost isn't huge, but in a situation where an extra few heals will turn the tide they can be group-savers.

Best on Shadow Priests and Warlocks, sort of a Lifetap ability, with both classes are able to Drain Health from enemy either way, its just like Draining mana over time.

I farmed in Winterspring and ended up with a bunch of Demonic Runes in my bag. I've been using them as a shadow priest in raids and I've been skipping using mana pots altogether. They're nice, but I don't think I'll go out of my way to farm them after I run out.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but this is useful for Kaz'rogal in MH due to his mana burn this will help keep your mana up and hopefully stop you from exploding

The damage inflicted is absorbed by Power Word: Shield, making this item good for all priest specs.

Grind these Demonic Runes in Azshara, off the Legashi guys. I've tried many other places and wasted a lot of time. After only a half hour, I picked up 6 of them. Coords; 52, 18. 62, 24. and 68,16.

Both these and Dark Rune work during the General Vezax encounter. While not a fantastic amount of mana, if you find yourself with Life Leach or Shadowcrashed running away and unable to get a green cloud, these help when standing in a Shadowcrash cloud.

The elite demons in Blasted Lands and Winterspring seem to be gone now. I think the easiest place to farm these is now Dire Maul. A quick run of Dire Maul East yielded 5 of them.

Fun facts i need everyone to look for this item "demonic rune" it seems now to be really rare in many places , and needed by black smiths and leather workers and also tailors too. so keep farming them for AH and sale it cheap , but i know others will sale for high price because its a rare item now .

You can't buy or sell these on the AH, they are bind on pickup, which obviously makes it difficult to use as a mat-my tailor needs them but is too low level to go into places like Dire Maul solo. There are some mobs listed in Felwood he could handle, but the drop rate is so low I don't think it would be worth the effort, assmuning they even drop there at all, lotsa things changed after Cata. Most mats are not BoP, its a shame this one is. Also, this item is of no use at all to characters like my 80 DK herbalist who runs Dire Maul all the time for other drops. He vendors the darn things.

This is a very good item for a priest, since they can quickly heal more or less that amount of damage quickly for about a tenth of the mana gain.

I have attempted to farm these all over the place in anticipation of transmogrification, but to no avail. I think that they were taken out of the game.

after reading these comments I set off to farm DM East on my level 64 priest. After around 3 runs I found that the very first room full of Satyrs yields at least 1 Demonic Rune. This only happened when I pulled the WHOLE room together, not when I killed individual packs (weird, I know). Good luck on your DM farming! :)

Hi I heard these can be found "at Dire maul, warpwood in all that demon trash" is what I was told. I know where that is but I did not understand the part about 'all that demon trash'... I never saw this drop in the DM Warpwood instance soo is it oUTSIDE the instance in Dire maul? Thanks:) (Need these for tailoring mats so I have to have at least 8 of them.)

Just in case anyone is in need of these for transmog, an update of my experience as of today.

Needed 3 to make Felcloth Robe. Went into Dire Maul EAST. Remember east...I went into west initially and couldn't find any of the NPCs that dropped this...A waste of 10 minutes.

Walked into room where Pusillin is. Didn't kill him because I didn't need to. I grabbed about the first 15 Warpwoods I saw upon entering, rained fire, and looted.

All-in-all, if I took a straight line to get the 3 Demonic Runes I needed, it would have taken no more than 2-3 minutes. The 15 Warpwoods dropped 4 and I left.

So if you want to know how to get some of these things, Dire Maul EAST (remember east....lol) is a good start.....and finish.

Also, a good idea, and I may suggest this, would be to make these items BoE. It's not that I want to get there and get it done, but besides the northern portion of Eastern Kingdoms, DM is a bit of a trek.

I've been clearing from the back door (Lariss Pavilion entrance @ 77,36 in Feralas) straight into Leth's room (ie turning left before I reach the upper courtyard), down the ramp into Hydro's room, across it, up the ramp to Zev then jumping off the balcony to get the other side of Hydro's room. After that, I either run back out or log off for a bit (5-10 mins, maybe?) so that I'll log back in at the "start" of the instance (ie the Lariss Pavilion entrance where I began).

I kept track of my drops just for the heck of it. For some reason, the drop rates on both runes and felcloth seem to be, well... let's just say "reliably sporadic". A couple times, I looted 3 felcloth from a single group of 3-5 demons while other times I went through most of the instance without seeing any.

7 runs...
Demonic runes per run: 6, 0, 5, 0, 0, 2, 5
Felcloth per run: 7, 2, 3, 9, 2, 4, 1

I ran Dire Maul East on 1/20/16 and killed every single thing in there and only got ONE rune to drop. horrid drop rate :(

Keep in mind these are soulbound to the toon that collects them, and they cannot be mailed or traded, that is why they are not on the auction house.

Dire Maul has been split into four instances as of Battle for Azeroth, Direwood Warpwood Quarter is the instance that has packs of demons that drop felcloth and demonic runes. I just did a full clear and got 2 demonic runes, easy enough.

Fastest way to get there is to fly from Thunder Bluff if you are Horde and from Caverns of Time on Alliance.

The comments here make the farm seem worse than it is... I had to farm 16 of them for Corruption ... In the suggested Warpwood Quarter I got 4-7 per run. Your aim is to clear 3 rooms - one with the Pusilin the Thief miniboss (you can use the side entrance), the one with Lethendris and finally the one with Zevrim and Hydrospawn. Focus on satyrs,

Looking to farm these quickly in BfA?

Farming 50+ per hour in Dire Maul: East

1. Portal to Silithus from Boralus or Dazar'Alor.
2. Fly North to Feralas
3. Head to the location of Azj'Tordin at the Lariss Pavilion. Coordinates: 77 37
4. Enter through the instance backdoor by following the ramp down to the door on the Northern side of the inner pavilion.

Using this instance portal as your reset location, you can easily make laps around the boss rooms of Lethtendris, Hydrospawn, and Zevrim. There are 4-5 packs of Wildspawn NPCs in these rooms. The rooms aren't very large and make for quick clears.

Simply continue to use the instance portal that you entered through (In The Hidden Reach part of the Warpwood Quarter).

It's a fairly simple clear, but here is the route I used for reference:

1. Clear The Hidden Reach room.
2. Enter Lethtendris's room.
3. Clear this room.
4. Take stairwell down to Hydrospawn's room.
5. Clear this room.
6. Take Northern path up to Zevrim.
7. Clear platform.
8. Jump off platform towards stairwell to Lethtendris.
9. Take exit towards The Hidden Reach.

Exit instance and reset.

Notes:

The bosses were not a good source of Demonic Rune drops.

The final boss of the dungeon does not need to be killed.

There are several stealthed mobs walking the hallways around The Hidden Reach. Be sure not to miss them!

This is also a great location to farm Felcloth. Much quicker than the Swamp of Sorrows.
