What is Wowhead?
Wowhead was created with one sole intent: providing World of Warcraft players with tools to make their gameplay more enjoyable. This website is our contribution to this wonderful game. Our user community is the most important part of what we do. Almost all of our information comes from the users, through data uploads from the Wowhead Client, comments on database entries and screenshot submissions! The site also features forums, where users can ask questions, discuss important WoW-related topics, recommend and share favorite addons, and much more!
We are firmly committed to the rules of gameplay and to the gaming community. As such, we have a firm stance against virtual item markets, real money trading (RMT) and powerleveling services. You will never see us support such efforts. Furthermore, anything against the World of Warcraft Terms of Use or End User License Agreement is strictly prohibited on Wowhead.New and exciting features are continuously added in order to stay ahead as the leading World of Warcraft information website. We are constantly striving to improve the site, and there are always lots of new features in the works! We'd love to know what you think, so if there's something you'd like to see implemented on the site be sure to contact us!
Wowhead is optimized for Firefox, although we thoroughly test the pages for Internet Explorer 7 and 8, Opera and Safari as well. We also try to make the site as compatible as possible with all browsers, but some people using older browsers (like IE6) may experience problems.
History
Wowhead was originally created as a talent calculator by Guillaume and Joshua in December of 2005. It started small, but quickly became a popular alternative to Blizzard's own, even eventually inspiring a redesign of Blizzard's calculator to the version that still exists on their website today.Tip: If you're interested in seeing what the site looked like in the past, check out the Internet Archive Wayback Machine.
Meanwhile, behind the scenes, Joshua and Guillaume were busy developing the Wowhead database. The database is the result of 6 months of hard work, and was released in June 2006. It features a vast amount of WoW related information, such as in-game items, NPCs, quests, zones and much more. It also introduced a uniquely intuitive user interface and a filtering system which continues to be one of Wowhead's greatest strengths.
Wowhead soon joined IGN's Vault Network, as a hosted fansite. But in September of 2006, it became clear the Wowhead needed more room to grow. Tim (Evilseed) came on board to help the site to develop as a business, and Wowhead made the leap from IGN's servers to its own. The website's following continued to grow, and in June of 2007, Wowhead made the decision to join the ZAM Network, along with other well-known MMO sites including Thottbot, Allakhazam, MMOInterface, and Online Gaming Radio.
Casey joined the team in June 2007 to help build and develop the Wowhead community (and to try and answer some of the emails that had been piling up in the inbox). Over time, Guillaume and Casey became partners in operating and developing the site. As the site grew and Wowhead began to add new features, their duo became a trio – Shaun joined them in 2009, to manage their growing team of programmers. Now the three of them operate the site together, with Shaun managing the development team, Casey managing the community and content team, and Guillaume watching over it all.
As Wowhead has expanded, a number additional features have become part of the repertoire, including the forums, 3D modelviewer, NPC abilities, hunter pet calculator, item comparison, weight scales, and the long-awaited profiler tool. With the team and the site growing all the time, Wowhead is dedicated to providing you with new features and tools to enhance your gaming experience.
The Team
Guillaume (Skosiris) <Site Director>
Guillaume is the co-founder of Wowhead as well as the lead designer and the senior member of the team. He has a ton of experience with PHP, JavaScript, and MySQL. He's also the man responsible for Wowhead's unique design and intuitive user interface. Guillaume is the obsessive-compulsive member of the team, not happy unless every pixel is in its proper place.Guillaume has been a PC gamer since the age of 5, with King's Quest VI and Tank Wars. He and Joshua met at age 16, taking the same "Introduction to Computer Science" class in high school. They built the talent calculator together in 2005, and continued to update and maintain it while they roomed together at Université Laval in Québec. Today, Guillaume continues to attend university while he builds and maintains the site – if you catch him afk, he's probably doing homework. In addition to Wowhead, Guillaume also enjoys TV/movies, and sliding down various surfaces.

Casey (Malgayne) <Content/Community Lead>
Casey is responsible for everything on Wowhead that's generated by a person rather than by a computer. He manages the team of volunteer moderators, editors and bloggers that provide us with all of that extra juicy content, and keep our forums neat and clean. He also takes care of giveaways, contests and promotions on Wowhead, so if you've got some swag to give away, send him an email! Casey is the hyperactive member of the team, always talking to fifteen different people simultaneously.Casey started playing games on his Commodore 64 at age 5, and hasn't stopped since. Casey is a latecomer to MMOs and was originally a reluctant convert to World of Warcraft, but ever since he gave up PCs for Macs... well, there isn't much else worth playing. He joined the team in June of 2007, after starting his career in the game industry as a data entry temp for ZAM six months before. In addition to World of Warcraft, Casey is constantly honing his skills at Smash Bros. Brawl, ever since being defeated in the quarter-finals of the tournament that took place at his wedding reception. Casey also enjoys tabletop games, terrible music, and amateur psychotherapy.

Shaun (TheOnyx) <Development Manager>
Shaun is the team's development manager. He's responsible for scheduling releases, assigning tasks, planning out enhancements, and essentially making sure the site doesn't die in a fiery crash. He keeps the site in tip top shape and ensures that we're all using the best possible methods to maintain and improve the site.Shaun has been gaming since he received his first video game platform at the age of 8. At the age of 13, he made his first foray into programming by creating a QBasic Blackjack program, and later a simple text-based RPG. His love for gaming, programming, and RPGs lead him to playing World of Warcraft while developing software solutions for other industries. Shaun stumbed upon Wowhead during a random Google search in late 2006 and instantly fell in love with its interface. From that moment on, he has been reporting bugs and suggesting new features. After winning prizes in two Wowhead contests through his efforts in helping the site to grow, he joined the site as one of our official volunteers, where he continued to help improve the site. When Wowhead needed another developer to add to our ranks, Shaun's dedication to the site as well as his love for gaming and programming made him a natural fit to add to our team.

Claire (PoeticDragon) <Software Developer>
Claire is a web development prodigy, who's been working on Wowhead behind the scenes for a long time. She's already acted as the driving force behind a number of projects, including the item comparison, weight scales, and hunter pet calculator, as well as being instrumental in the creation of the profiler!Claire is a die hard roleplayer and has been playing various tabletop and live action games since she was 12. She has a head for problem solving and algorithms, and the first piece of code she ever wrote was a dice roller for Dungeons and Dragons on her graphing calculator. From there she branched out into true programming languages and better games, eventually combining her love of both when she discovered World of Warcraft. At the time of release she was studying for a computer science degree and it seemed natural to branch out into web development and lua addons to support her growing WoW addiction. Now she spends more time writing tools for the game than actually playing, but its what she enjoys most about it. She is still at heart a pen-and-paper gamer and participates in half a dozen local games when she finds the time -- even if it means she misses a raid. She met her husband at her first LARP and now plays WoW with him (though he is a total noob).
- Obsession: Anything with dragons
- Favorite game system: Fireborn (and close second, 7th Sea)
- Pointless, masochistic goal: 1 of each race and class to max level
Joshua (Mystadio) <Software Developer>
Joshua co-founded Wowhead with Guillaume in high school, and today he's responsible for the maintenance of the data found on the site. He is a skilled developer and a whiz at C++ and Lua. Joshua is at his best when he's finding simple answers to complex problems.Joshua first got into programming at age 7, when his mother noticed his obsession with computers and rewarded him with a book on BASIC programming. The gift changed his life, and before long he was learning other computing languages. And despite his father's insistence that the computer is just a toy, he makes a successful living as a programmer today. When he's not working on Wowhead, Joshua can be found riding his motorcycle, tooling around the science articles on Wikipedia, or taking good care of his newly born baby girl, Megan.
- Likes: Movies, quiet places, LA and Paris
- Doesn't like: New things
Alayton (alayton) <Software Developer>
Alayton has been working behind the scenes on projects for the ZAM Network for some time – including the 3D Model Viewer – and now he's become a full time addition to the Wowhead team! Alayton's responsibilities are expanding all the time... fortunately so far he seems to be enjoying the stress.Alayton has been studying computer science since he was 10, starting with an enormous C/C++ book his parents got him. His programming career first began to take off as a scripter for Tribes 2 when he was 16, and since then he's shored up his knowledge of programming with a series of CS classes (some of which he even bothered to show up for). When not playing WoW, Alayton can be found playing Heroes of Newerth (and maintaining HoNDB.com), playing XBox, or in class.

Brielle (Miyari) <Content Manager>
Brielle is the hardest working girl in the MMO industry. She helps create new features, maintains data integrity across the site, and sorts all of our screenshots. Brielle's fingerprints are on everything the site puts up, including maps, miniboxes, comments, forum posts, and much more. Brielle is the adorable member of the team – she even has her own fan club!Brielle had her gaming start with tabletop RPGs and card games, before finally getting into PC gaming with Warcraft 2: The Tides of Darkness. Soon after she got a job at a used video game store, and began amassing her game collection in earnest. She got hooked on MMOs via Ragnarok Online, and finally succumbed to WoW in June of 2005. Brielle has now been a part of several top raiding guilds. When she's not working on Wowhead – which is rarely – she's raiding with her guild, playing Team Fortress 2, or enjoying some Monk.

Sarah (Noxychu) <Artist>
Sarah is Wowhead's in-house fine artist, responsible for a number of pieces of artwork found around the site (including the portraits on this very page), as well as the Wowhead Comic. She's also available for commissions through her own website (Noxychu.com)... as long as you leave her enough time to keep making drawings for us.Sarah has been an artist since she was old enough to hold a crayon. She first started to learn from her mother, but went on to get her BND in Fine Art and Illustration. She has a number of art credits under her belt, including some official artwork for Anime Expo 2008. She was a long time Ragnarok Online player (with Brielle) before coming to WoW, in her words, "for the ponies." In her spare time, she can be found doodling, farming mounts, and dreaming up new t-shirt designs.
