Same strategy as valiants. The difference is that the champions start at three shields and refresh faster, so it'll take longer to beat them down.

1. Stand behind the champion you're going to challenge.
2. Immediately after challenging, throw Shieldbreaker as he rides away from you.
3. Close quickly and spam Thrust. You should get off two or three two-shield hits before he refreshes.
4. Lather, rinse, repeat. Every time he tries to break away from you, hit him with Shieldbreaker and then close to melee.
5. Refresh shields right after you close to melee. That way, the CD is done before he pulls away again.

Well, like pretty much everything PvE in WoW, once you learn the correct strategy, this becomes a matter of execution rather than strategy: as long as you don't mess up, it's fairly trivial.

The strategy above does work very reliably, but it takes a fair amount of time. You end up spending 70% of the time wailing on somebody with 3-stacked shield and 30% attacking a target with 2. Dailies should be done quickly and efficiently, so a slightly more aggressive strategy works far better, in my opinion. To give you an idea, the last time I did this using my own strategy, I ended my last fight at 25k health. By that, I mean I won all four fights in a row without healing at all between any of them, and I still had 1/2 health left. I finished all four in the time I saw others do one using the above strategy. This same strategy can also be used for an easy solo of the boneguard commander on that daily, since he uses the same attack patterns as valiants and champions.

First, a refresher of the usual strategy, as all of these same rules apply with my method:
1. Open all fights with 3-stacked shield
2. Stay on top of them all of the time (aside from the exceptions below)
3. Never use charge
4. Spam thrust constantly when you're not using shield breaker or refreshing shield
5. When they try to gain range, use shield breaker and again close to melee

However, there's something you can do to greatly speed up the fights. There's a very slight delay between you moving to charge/shield breaker distance and them actually using one of those attacks. If you very quickly strafe out of melee range to use shield breaker, then immediately strafe back into melee, you can almost always launch a shield breaker without taking any kind of retaliatory attack. This can be done fast enough to be done in between thrusts, in fact. At most, probably due to latency, I will be hit with one or two shield breakers using the above method across all four fights, and I simply hit shield again to regain that last stack.

Using the above technique, you can maintain 3-stacked shield at all times, while the champion you're facing will have 0-1 shield stacks instead of 2-3. Fights go far, far faster in this way.

Possibly not intended, but the damage bonus from Fate Rune of Baleful Intent does apply during mounted battles. Finally a use for all those vrykul bones!

1 out of 3 times I get this doing this daily:

"Spell not ready yet"
"Target too close"
"Target not in front of you"

Even though you aren't too close, the Shield Breaker IS ready and the target is in front of you. Only thing you can do is let it bug out while your opponent is double-firing Shield Breakers from across the entire arena so you can dismount and get another ride.

Other than that, it's fun.

Probably the worst Daily Quest of World of Warcraft ever.

Enjoy your mount occasionally bugging out and you being out of range to do your abilities. The only way to fix this is removing your Argent Lance and replacing it for another non-lance weapon; not even the Leave Vehicle button will work.

Being the victim of a instant shield-breaker to charge in 1 GCD is fun too.

For the opponents on the side of the southern side of the jousting area, farthest from the under-construction colliseum in the middle, be careful you don't let them go too far south into the snowy area or they will move out of the Argent Tournament area and despawn, wasting your time and effort. Easy way to avoid this is to just fight the champions on the north side of the jousting area closest to the coliseum, but if you want to fight the others (i.e. you are working on Lance a Lot or something) just be sure to occasionally kite them back in if they get too far into the snow.

Its worth pointing out that if you do struggle somewhat with these quests in so much as you can't take the valiants or champions down 100% of the time, you can have a tank friend taunt them which will allow you to keep a distance from them and then shield break/charge them at your leisure.

Not sure if this is intended to make the quest achievable for those with bad latency or such as it seems a large oversight on Blizzard's part but it works none the less.

I think it wasn't mentioned before, so here it goes.

When you become a champion 1st time, it's with your race. Than you can do both champion dailies and valiant dailies for other faction (for example undead can start doing orc valiant dailies).

What's my point? While doing this quest, challenge only champions of opposite side (Horde challenge Alliance and vice versa), so you can complete your valiant quests immidiately after that.

Edit:

There is also a little (or not so little) bug that i noticed. When you throw your lance, it takes a few secs for it to land on a mob. If within these few seconds mob raises his defend, than thrown lance not only destroys that defence, but also does damage as if that defence was never there.
For example if you throw a lance at mob with no defence, and it will raise it meanwhile - your lance will remove it but still deal 2 000 dmg.

Can't confirm if it works also the other way (mobs' lances removing players defences and dealing full damage), but probably yes.

This is very easy:

Get on a mount and use "Defend (4)" 3 times. Till you have a green shield around you.
Challenge the person.
You want to try and use Shield Breaker (2) to remove their shields. Get just the right amount of range, once you get it run close to the mob so you don't get charged. Keep Defend up w/ green shield all the time, and you'll take minimal damage.

The key to this is to break there shield and use the melee attack, and to not get charged by your opponent.
The average fight for this takes about 45-60 seconds!

Here is what I do to finish my jousting dailys for another day.

1.Go to the water vendor and buy Honey Mead's (50 Copper each) to fill up your bags(Normally I buy 20 at a time and shift click them to unstack into singles to fill my bag slots)

2. Go do the daily(s) (Champion / Valiant Seals, both work)
*Note: if you are doing it right you will get a error message saying your inventory is full but don't worry they will be mailed to you*

3. Go sell / delete your Honey Mead's to make 2 open bag slots and go do your jousting again and hand in the quest(s).
*Note: you may have to go clear your bested debuffs so you can go do them again depending on how long it yook you to do the daily(s), what I do is take off all my gear and fly up and unmount to crater and die so I can loose my debuffs, other classes may have other ways to get rid of them such as mages Ice Block*

4. Go to your mailbox and get your seals for tomorrow! (Since they are unique(3/4) you can only hold 3 valiant and 4 champions in your backpack at a time, but when they are mailed to you they last 24 hours in the mail)

Murlocs' no fail strategy for Among the Champions.

(1)- Start with full shield buff (Hotkey 4). This will take about 12 seconds to apply.
(2)- Upon engaging do not worry about charge or melee. Your foe starts with full shield and both these abilities will do trivial damage.
(3)- Let them get a little bit of space from you and use shield breaker (2) then immediately move through them and use melee (1).
(4)- Keep circling them with tight circles that are just far enough for shield breaker, but not far enough to allow an opponent to charge. (If you let the enemy champions charge you a few times, you will very likely lose)
(5)- Rinse and repeat step 3.

You'll have to practice this a bit adjusting for your latency to get a feel for the exact range at which the shield breaker will shoot. Just remember, the only important thing is that you always combo shield breaker and melee. They don't share a global cooldown and by keeping tight to your foe, you should never take more than 10% damage the entire fight.

Tip: Don't waste cooldowns renewing your shield. If you are spamming shield renew, you are either paranoid, or letting them charge you.

Tip 2: The enemy champions will deliberately run far to try to charge you. Just keep tight to them and keep shield breaking. If you dont let them charge, you won't lose.

Bear in mind this strategy is lower total damage than utilizing charges, but if you charge them, you will inevitably get charged too, and often will lose which makes your overall completion time much higher than just shield break/melee strategy.

GEAR DAMAGE:
By some cheap armour to wear during these mounted daylies! The gear durability decreases, and if you have expencive gear equiped, it will cost you lot's of gold to repair..

And...Don't do this quest if you have a slow computer and a bad internet connection... You would eventyally smash your computer to peaces!
I started early in the day (at work...friday...:)=, killed 3 champs, then the quest grinding started with lot's of other players turning up, and I freakin had no chance to finish of the last champ due to lag!

Use this rotation from the beginning of the fight, until his shields are gone AND off cooldown. (Should take 3 rotations). Refresh shield if he gets a shield breaker off as you charge.

1) Shield Breaker
2) Charge/Thrust as you charge
Optional: Refresh shield
3) Thrust as you move away to repeat the rotation
4) Repeat

You'll take down his shields and bring him to around 30k health. You should never lose more than 10k health if you maintain shields and space yourself properly. The enemy will NEVER charge you when you're at 3 shields. You should only give him enough time for no more than one shield breaker in any of the rotations. As long as you refresh shields between charges while you thrust, you'll never go below two shields for more than a second.

For the rest of the fight, use this next rotation.

1) Thrust
Optional: Refresh shield
2) Thrust/move away
Optional: Refresh shield
3) Charge/Thrust

He should never reach 2 shields, as each charge should be breaking them. This allows you to quickly challenge four champions within a minute and a half and never have to wait for a heal CD. An extra tip, while you're in melee range for any of the two rotations, you should be refreshing your shields, as it's very likely the champion will get at least one shield breaker off.

Tips:

1) You can charge and thrust at the same time.
2) You can refresh shields and thrust at the same time.

This quest is much easy then most think,

also, i've foudn a better "strategy" then any of those posted above,

simply, make a macro with the following script:

/cast Thrust
/cast Shield-Breaker
/cast Charge

all those free dont share a GCD ( although they do with the defand, which is weird)

after making that macro, place it in a quickslot which isnt on your normal primary one ( the one being replaced) and keybind it. (comment -keybind only tested with Bartender's keybind)

so, the fight can be like that - raise up your defand to 3 shields, and engage in fight with someone,

now, just spam the macro.
every time you charge turn around to your opanent, and keep spamming,

dont forget to refresh your defends, ofc.

if it doesnt work with this macro, jsut remember that you can spam hit 2+3 ( shield breaker + charge) when the opanent disengages, and when you're close enough jsut spam 1.
