I accepted this quest at level 80, talked to the quest giver and selected "Take me to the ship" and nothing happened. I was mounted when I first accepted the quest so this "might" have had something to do with why I'm not getting the provided flight.

I tried dumping the quest, logging out then picking it up again but still no flight so either I am missing something obvious or yet another bug. (Will just have to fly there on flying mount, blah.)

Just something to keep in mind since a lot of the quests that involve flying get quite unhappy with you if you're already mounted.

Officer Van Rossem will take me to the Skybreaker, but no quest "Preparations for War". I have "Cold Weather Flying but have never seen the quest. Really could use the fp.

Not sure, but I think you guys who are not seeing the quest may not have completed all the quests leading up to this? There is a chain of quests which involves slaying Fjorn and eventually his anvil is moved to Dun Niffelem, which starts with "A Spark of Hope" - https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/quest=12956. This chain has a huge impact on the way the war progresses and I am certain it will need to be done to trigger "Preparations of War".

It's broken in a different way for me today. Rather than land me on the ship, I just fly past it around and around in a circle. I do three cycles of Icecrown, then I'm teleported back to Dalaran. Since I can't determine any way to get off the mount, I guess I'll have to fly there myself. (I *wish* it would drop me. Would be faster.)

Like some other people, I am getting the error with him not sending me to the ship.

I play two characters on two accounts and one was able to go to the ship, the other wasn't. Both have the quest, and both have flying training. Both have completed the exact same quests while in Northrend.

Solution: just fly there yourself.

I flew around the ship in circles above it for about 10 or 15 minutes and i started hitting buttons on my keyboard and appearead in front of the flight master....

The dumb helicopter dropped me about 20 yards from the ship. Thank goodness for swift flight form.

Has anyone reported this problem to Blizz?

Learned Cold Weather Flying in Dalaran and was immediately offered this quest at lvl 77. In addition to the 5500xp for the quest turn-in, I also received 19500xp for explorations on the way to the ship and discovered the following:
The Decrepit Flow, Ironwall Dam, The Broken Front, Mord'rethar: The Death Gate, The Valley of Lost Hope, The Bombardment, Aldur'thar: The Desolation Gate, Icecrown, and Ymirheim.

Judging by the names, I'm pretty sure this place is going to be all rainbows and sunshine.

i have the quest, when i talk to Van Rossem i get the option for the flight. i take it, i fly to the skybreaker, then fly back to dalaran.

guess i'll have to fly there on my own.

I took this quest and got a ride to the ship. I abandoned it before turning it in.
Now every time I want to return to the ship, I just pick up the quest again and get a free ride.

This quest is bugged. The flying machine took me to the ship, but flew past it. Then it flew in a big circle for 3 rounds, and eventually teleported me back to Dalaran.

Best thing to do is to just fly there yourself. The position of the ship is visible on the map.

them saying it's fixed and it being fixed aren't really the same thing. i just spent ten minutes on that stupid helicopter before it ported me back to dalaran

After not being dropped off at the ship I got teleported back to Dalaran - however, none of the NPCs nor players were visible. I tried flying there on my own mount, and as I got close to the ship I was dismounted from my own mount, sending me to a rather painful death...

tldr: avoid this quest like the plague.

Responding to the people who got ported back to dal and waited for the NPCs to finally become visible.....

I had these exact things happen to me a moment ago. I simply ran back into town. As I got to the bottom of the stairs in the hallway leading into town, all the NPCs became visible again. I ran back onto the landing and I could see everything.

I did this very smooth... Just take quest take the damn long flight and landed on the Skybreaker... Around 5th time i do the quest, never experienced any bugs.. just one hell of a long flight :)

I had the same problem, but instead of waiting for it to port me back to Dalaran, I logged out in midflight then logged back in. I found myself on the highest mountain in Ymirheim, just south of the boat. Much closer and faster than flying from Dalaran.

Tried this quest today. First time it took me on three fly bys before porting me to Dala. Second time it dropped me off at the Skybreaker fine.

So yeah, still bugged.

As of this writing the Taxi to Skybreaker from Dalaran works fine - tested it 4 times in a row.

However... To get to the quests on Skybreaker you must talk to Marshal Ivalius https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/npc=31241 and complete The Skybreaker https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/quest=13225 first.

Officer Van Rossem is found in various places on the west side of the Dalaran flight area. Talk to him and he'll fly you to the ship.

This quest counts towards the Loremaster achievement in WOTLK Classic. Tested today, 10/28/2022. Quest worked as expected, rode the vehicle from Dalaran directly to the Skybreaker, no bugs or issues. Currently sitting at 138/140 for Icecrown with only the rest of the Bridenbrad chain to finish.
