I second the above comments and would go so far as to say not to bother doing this daily unless you hold the keep. It's just a waste of time unless you're already grinding the mobs for the Crystallized Fire. With the keep I can complete this in less than 10 minutes, but without it I'm yet to see a drop.

how do i get this quest again on alliance, i completed it once, now i cant do it again its been like 2 weeks since i completed...

I have to disagree with the above posts about this quest being easy if alliance controlls the fortress. ATM alliance does controll the fortress I have been grinding waiting for the next battle to begin. I have been killing all of the fire eles in the cauldron for 45 min thus far and not one single drop. Now I will be submitting a ticket as this guest has to be bugged. I have killed monsters in the cauldron for a total of over 95 minutes and not one drop.

Just did this quest with a friend, the drops are shared.. so if 1 drops, you both get it.

Raging flames had about 1 in 7-8 drop.

Reverants had 2 each.. killed 4 of them and got 8 embers from those 4. (each)

Also this was when alliance had wintergrasp control

Could it be that the battle needs to be in session for these items to drop? Haven't tried it, but just seems logical.

Some things I have noticed with this quest and the others like it.

~~The quest items drop only on the day of the quest. This not a bug but rather part of the quest mechanic because the daily quest for Horde and Alliance are the same.~~ This no longer applies as you can complete the quest on days it is not the daily if you already have it.

Enemy players always drop the 5 quest items when killed in the combat zone of the quest.

Revenants (only visible to the controlling side of Wintergrasp) always drop up to 2 quest items if you are on the quest. The regular elementals will always drop 1 quest item if you are on the quest.

There are four quests like this one and rotate daily, like the daily dungeon quests (Alliance or Horde):

A Rare Herb or Healing with Roses No Revenants however Mature Lashers will drop 1 quest items and spawn like Revenants.
Fueling the Demolishers or Fueling the Demolishers Revenants always drop 2 quest items.
Bones and Arrows or Bones and Arrows Revenants always drop 2 quest items.
Warding the Warriors or Jinxing the Walls Revenants always drop 1 quest item.

The upcoming changes to Wintergrasp (despawning of all elementals in the zone) also suggest these are meant to be done outside of the battle, that is, during the 2.5 hour break between battles.

Hope this helps.

Edit: I forgot to mention the quest items are multi-loot so it is best to do this as a group if there are multiple people to cut down on mob stealing from your own faction.

Another detail I have noticed is the number of items dropped by the revenants is not the static number of 2, rather it is dependent on the quest item being harvested. I have added what I have seen, from the Alliance perspective, to the above quests.

Edit: added updated info based on changes related to a hotfix and fixed some grammar and spelling too.

I did this quest yesterday, and I only got one Shard for completing it.

I know I've gotten three Shards in the past; a glitch, or did they nerf the Shard return rate in a hotfix?

I would love Wintergrasp so much more if it wasn't for the bugs...

Confirmed. This quest yields only 1 Stone Keeper's Shard now

The quest items for these daily quests drop for everyone in the party, so do yourself a favor and group up with other players of your faction when doing these quests.

This is the only one of the 4 dailiy 'gathering' tasks that only drops 1 shard, although I have had 3 previously. It is also the only one that you hand in at a different NPC than the giver.
This may be a bug or may in some way be connected to the fact that the area you grind these is getting made bigger in 3.0.8, although if so, the connection is not clear to me yet.
The items are no way 100% drop from the revanents but are a lot better than from the normal fire elementals. The drop either stops or dramatically decreases once you get your 10, however it is deffinately possible to carry one over if you were on 9 and then dropped 2, the 1 you carry over remains in your bag or bank and counts toward the next time you do this task.

The quest gives 3 Stone Keeper's Shard as of 3.0.8

I found out quite by accident that the Raging Flames in Wintergrasp now (as of Mar 5/09) drop the quest item 100% of the time - at least, I was 10 for 10 on them. This was less than 5 minutes after losing control of WG. It was a very nice consolation prize...

quest gives 1 shard...
raging flames drop 1 x quest item...
bigger guys drop 2 x quest item...
drop rate 100%...

And opposite faction drops 5x quest item. Fun times...

I'm a level 78 NE Hunter. I completed the quest for the first time today and it awarded 10x shards.

10 shards now.

3722 honor.

100% drop rate from revenants.

描述

[<name>! About time you showed up. While we may have lost the last battle, we should prepare for the next! Travel to the Cauldron of Flames in southeastern Wintergrasp and retrieve several eternal embers.

The embers are mixed in with coal to fuel the Demolisher and Siege Engines.

Oh, and if you happen to see some of the Horde in the Cauldron, don't hesitate to slay them and take their embers. We must prevent them from holding the keep!]
