Near the southern side of Malykriss there is a wealth of runesmiths just hammering away on anvils. As such, it is an excellent area to quickly farm the 5 plates. Be very careful, I found myself quickly overwhelmed by the rapid respawns and proximity aggro.

Suffice to say: went in for 5 kills, came out literally 37 later.

good luck trying to kill only 5 of em lol, i kileld like 100 of em at the same time, lucky i had evasion x 2, lots of pots, bandages, and all other stuff :p

Watch out for the runesmiths at the raised location that are in close proximity with each other. MANY of them have evade bug issues due to the objects around them. I'd recommend staying with killing the ones near the open furnace.

lol i went there and killed some of them and i got all 5 from the first 5 kills, so i guess blizzard changed the drop rate... good luck farming them

I dropped in at 57,75 from my griffin near a load of scourge bombs (they're friendly btw) and killed the undead brute. Head down the ramp, pull the first smith and kill him. Pull the second and kill him. Return up the ramp and the brute should have respawned. Rinse and repeat.

Yes, it's a very quick respawn rate but you can just cycle through the brute, and the two smiths at 57,75 and by the time you're done with the smiths the brute is back.

As someone said do watch the agro range - it's pretty big. Best to pull with a range weapon if possible.

Very strange drop rate as of the current patch (3.0.8) I killed about 50 of these before I got a single runed plate. Then I got 5 in a row once the first one dropped for me. Anyone else experience this?

Just did the quest (3.0.9), killed 5 of them at the big fire downstairs and 5 plates dropped. Did some killing up on the ledge, and none dropped there.

i dont know if they changed the DR since the new patch but it was 100% for me. they are dropped by Skeletal Runesmith its a respawn time of 1 min

The Brutes have the eyes of eagles i was fighting the runesmiths and they jumped me from about 80 ft. (not exact)

[Those shards you recovered can only have come from one place, Malykriss. It's the seat of the Lich King's metalworking operations, to the east of Corp'rethar.

What's puzzling is that metal isn't needed to stitch together abominations or flesh giants, or to summon skeletal servants. Find the skeletal runesmiths working on the bottom level of Malykriss and capture the plates they're working on. We need to find out why this metal is finding its way to the Fleshwerks.]
