For shadow priests: you need to sort of combine some of the above comments. You MUST hurt them before using the spray (letting them hurt themselves hitting you doesn't seem to work), and you MUST NOT be in Shadowform (similar to turning off Ret aura I guess).

The problem here is not killing them before using the spray. I found letting Mind Flay tick once and then stopping it and using the spray worked out ok. Just be careful of the Proto-drakes flying around. If one decides you look tasty switch back into Shadowform, cause they hurt.

I wanded as an opener for those vrykul then used the spray, all the time not leaving shadowform, and I got credit for the quest.

The problems with this quest highlight the problems with tapping mobs. They have to be tapped to you before you can use the quest item. Blizzard claims any damage will tap a mob but that is not true. Letting them get hurt by attacking you does not tap them to you only intentional damage taps them and you have to be careful not to kill them because they are diseased and their health is so low.

When I started I used frost bolt but literally one shot all of them even without critting.

I wish I could get a job as a project head. I could make the combat systems so much nicer. Call me Blizz!

As of 3.1 basically you just need to hit the mob, or use an offensive spell, (for a DK example, Death Grip) and then it should register after you apply the spray.

In order to get credit for spraying you need to tag the mob first.

No, actually you can use your weakest attack like throw or simply show your back to the mob and start spraying

On my pally, I simply used Hand of Reckoning, which tagged them as hit, without doing too much damage, then I could spray them. AoE damage did not seem to work to get credit on a group in order to spray them, so I had to snag them one at a time. Just my experience, tonight.

Attacking first works. Good time to get naked and use a fishing pole :) I attempted to do this for a while on my 80 pally trying to do loremaster couldn't figure out why the quest was not working. Good luck all and hope this helps

Just tried doing this quest as a druid.

Hitting with my mace in caster form? No credit.

Hitting with my mace in moonkin form? No credit.

Hitting with an attack in cat form? Credit, finally.

Still seems very buggy.

Decked out in Kara/Zul'aman gear (rogue), I tend to kill them in two hits so remove a few weapons first.

Throw works well too, but the aggro range was large and so I wasn't always able to use it.

for DK's, set your ghoul to passive (if u use one full time), then target, then use dark command, then spray, then kill. worked every time.

LOL I'm seein all these weird posts sayin you have to take off your wep and hit em once or twice THEN apply the green #$%^ for it to count cause of the bug. All you gotta do is taunt em, was lvlin my dk there and I just used Dark Command is all and spray and kill, easy peasy

Reading the above 2 posts got me wondering if you guys just used fist (using white attack) or removed your weapon and used skill (using yellow attack), the latter will probably have lots more dmg.

This worked, thank you! You gotta attack them first, THEN spray.

To get around the bug, you must first attack once, then apply the item.

Still not working for me... I tried spray first and kill, hit first then spray and kill, hit first then spray and let the dot kill them, spray one and let it attack another one to death... I'd say I tried just about every way you could do this and didn't get credit for anything. I'm quite sure this is completely bugged now.

Edit:
Had to disable some of my addons, then it worked just fine! Not sure which one was doing it, but disabling mods is a good place to start before opening a ticket.

Okay, this ones a big summary since i had troubles with this quest...

Attack them first, whether it be with a totem, or a pet, or a punch.

If your a shaman such as myself, just use a totem you can get like all 10 at once.

"WARNING" They only have like 1200 life enraged, so theres a good chance they die if your using any kind of weapon.

Just reiterating what other folks have said. It didn't work for me as a quest backtracking 80 hunter until I disarmed and put my pet on passive. Attack with a punch, spray, have fun with a little fistfight. Got credit.

Yeah this quest is totally bugged out i tried using spells, my wand, my mace, fists and nothing worked.
This is especially disappointing to me as there is a nice offhand reward :'(

I found that just hitting them once, then spraying, wouldn't work. I had to get them below a certain percentage, and then spray. The threshold seemed to be around 50%.

lol... nearly all the comments above are obsolete. As of the last few patches, this quest works fine without needing to do anything special. Just spray the mobs. No need to attack first or use any ability, just spray 'em as directed.

Spray the plagued vrykul and the will grow a bit and attack. However, they are much weaker and can be killed quickly. Easy quest. Leads to follow up "Parts for the Job".

not sure what is wrong, spray them they grown and go nuts, but not getting credit ANYWAY I kill them, root and wait, barehanded, probably another "FEATURE" of 3.1.1. Thanks blizzard, another well thought out, properly coded patch...NOT. This game is NOT getting better, quite the opposite, it is getting simpler and stupider by the day...

This confused me, thought it was a glitch in the new update. You need to hit them at least once before you spray them, otherwise you get no results :-(

I was having the same problem as arkfeld. I had to abandon the quest and take it up again and even then I had to do a little bit of damage to them and then spray them. I had to equip my skinning knife to do the small amount of damage to them but even then that was sometimes unreliable. I'm just such a killer. LOL
Hopefully they'll fix this quest. I was able to do it, though.

You have to attack them a bit first before applying the spray..... once you apply the spray, they die much quicker.

But you need to hit them first before applying it. Was easy for me... no problems.
