Also notable, one of his quotes are "I wish I could just jump down a pipe and escape them. " This is a reference to the original Mario games, where you could jump down pipes to escape monsters and ( more often than not ) find hidden rooms with lots of coins.

Another reference to this may be that the pipes were often guarded by carnivorous plants resembling the Bloodpetals of Un'goro slightly... But who knows.

Look at his name: Larion (sounds like Mario to me)

Indeed the Mario and Luigi idea seems to be correct.
Larion is with the horde faction and Muigin is with alliance.

They are here because Larion lead them here when he shouldn't have (according to Muigin).

I don't really know much about this guy because I'm alliance :P

But what I do know is that the guards don't seem to care if he's running around beating the hell out of you with his mallet. So I turned around and whacked him back and the guards killed me :(

All Dwarves must be a member of the Alliance unless they are neutral or simply hostile to all.

It's a well known rule.

Well 64 is a "nintendo number" kinda. Whenever I hear 64 I think of the Nintendo 64 console. That may explain the damage you took. Or perhaps its just coincedence. So he's wearing "Red Overalls" and a "Blue Linen Tunic?". What make is his hammer? I'm trying to get all nintendo related items so I have to get the equipment. If you could tell me i'd appreciate it! I saw this dude beating up some poor defenseless flowers, so I sprang to their aid and defeated him in honorable combat. This enabled my pvp flag, though. I was also fairly wounded at that point. Suddenly, a despicable Horde rogue appeared and finished me off fairly quickly. *sigh*

Alliance is hostile toward Larion and Horde is hostile toward Muigin.

It's because Alliance members get a quest from Muigin to mess with Larion, and Horde members get a quest from Larion to mess with Muigin.

Oh, and no good comes of killing your particular questgiver's counterpart. Well, unless you don't want the opposite faction to be able to turn in their quests to their guy.

and if you travel a little to the east there is a cave with gorillas in it and if you kill enough one will drop a barrel-.- now what is a gorilla doing with a barrel? it must be Donkey Kong :O

Ok, so we've got a short dwarf in red overalls and a tall human in green. One is named Larion and the other Muigin. Look at the mustaches if you need more proof. If you are a gamer, and this doesn't sound familiar to you, then go shoot yourself in the head 14 and a half times for your stupidity. Larion and Muigin = Mario and Luigi. They're anagrams, or word scrambles. This, along with the Linken quest chain, is one of the biggest references I have seen in the game.

Just succeeded arranging some entertainment for everyone in Marshal's refuge by pulling Larion to Muigin. After some seconds of Larion beating my shield, Muigin took the hint and started attacking Larion, who soon started knocking after his brother instead of me.
