When you pick up mining you also pickup smelting. Smelting is something only a miner can do. You don't actually see the "mining" skill. All you have to do to mine (assuming you have the skill) is to have a mining pick somewhere in your inventory and right click on a vein you find.

That will give you raw ores, which are useless at this point. Note: you will also find other things than just ores, like stones and gems.

To make those ores usefull you have to smelt them, or in other words, transform them into bars than can later be used for blacksmiths.

Of course, you can't mine anything just like that. Certain types of minerals need a minimum amount of skill to mine. Just practice on the lower stuff until you can do it, smelting will help you raise your skill. You might have to see your mining trainer though for the actual smelting part or those newly possible to smelt minerals.

My memory it's usually in this order:
Copper,
Tin,
Bronze (used by combining copper and tin)
Huh... Iron? I don't remember much past this point. Sorry.

Hi all,

Perhaps someone can answer a question for me.

I am a lvl 7 Dwarf Hunter and took my first mining skill in Ironforge. I then took my first Blacksmith skill also in Ironforge.

The problem is, All I see in my skills is Smelting. What gives? What the heck did I do wrong?

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
