This will be a holiday boss similar to the
Headless Horseman
. A group will be able to summon him in
Coilfang Reservoir: The Slave Pens
during the newly revamped Midsummer Fire Festival. Much like with the Headless Horseman, each group member who has the quest can only summon him once a day. So your typical group will have five attempts on Lord Ahune.
He is currently on the 2.4 PTR for players interested in testing him out.

This boss consists of two phases. You should clear most of the area around him so you don't aggro Nagas. You can do this on non-heroic. The NPCs that start the quest are right after zone in, then in the cavern area before the double Defender pull.
During both phases, he'll create a frost animation on the ground and after 3 a spike will be made, shooting the player into the air for a few seconds. Its important to move if this spawns. Also, the ice around him will cause people to slip and be stunned for 2-3.
Phase 1:
He will spawn an elite with an aura that does a debuff causing frost damage every 2-3s, I believe 500 damage, that stacks and can not be dispelled. This has to be tanked by the tank. He'll also spawn a lot of low health non-elites every few seconds (~2000 health) that shoots a frost spell at people. He'll spawn maybe 20-30 of these elites, and 2 of the large elites before he'll switch to phase two. This phase lasts around 1 minute. He'll also summon cyclones after the first phase 1 which has a pull ability, but are also weak.
Phase 2:
After all the adds are dead you can safely focus dps on the Frozen Core. According to my ui, this has about 125k health, and you have about 20s (rough estimate) to dps him. You should be able to get him to under 60%. With a full tier 6 group, we got him to 33% the first time.
Repeat phase 1 and 2 until he dies. Its very important to control all the adds and avoid the ice spikes.

which is part of a long quest chain, as well as several other items.

Lord Ahune <The Frost Lord> is a frost lord in Neptulon's service. The Twilight's Hammer plan to have him battle
Ragnaros
to start an elemental war on Azeroth. Players summon
Ahune
as they complete the quest Neutral
Summon Ahune

A rough strat for Lord Ahune located in slave pens 2nd room :
Clears: Clear the 2 groups to the right, the pat group and the slave handler on the left. This should give you ample space and also to avoid aggroing adds accidentally.
Phase 1:
Last about 1 minute.
You cant damage Lord Ahune and he will send his lackeys to fight you.
Adds:
Arctic Hailstone: Single spawn during the phase 1. Hits about 2.5k - 3k on cloth. Needs to be tanked. Does a debuff every 1.5 seconds to everyone close to it that does 300 frost damage per tick and stacks up to 10 doing 3k per tick.
Arctic Frostwind and Arctic Water Elemental: Smaller adds that spawn 3 at a time every 3-5 seconds, very weak. Has about 1.2k-1.4k hp, a single Seed from a warlock is enough to take them out. Continue seeding in 2 seeds per add wave.
Random glacier spikes will also spawn from the floor after a frostlike animation that does about 800 dmg and throwing whoever got hit into the air in a direction and will take fall damage.
Adds will not despawn when phase 2 comes.
Phase 2:
Lord Ahune will submerge and his Frozen Core will be vulnerable. This is when you attack.
Has roughly 400k-600khp(unconfirmed).
He well then go back to phase 2 in about 30 seconds if not dead.
He repeats this 2 phases until dead.
Also he is frost immune, so go fire and turn up the heat ;)

Heroic Lord Ahune is, in my opinion, THE most difficult heroic fight Blizzard has implemented, and they should be proud. To kill him, you should clear the pack of 3 naga and a sporebat, the 3-naga pat, the slavehandler, and the 4 Lobstrok in the middle of the area - Ahune himself will spawn the other side of them, and them being alive pretty much guarantees a wipe.
Phase 1:
A large
Ice Elemental
will spawn, followed by smaller
water elementals
, 2 at a time. Set a melee DPS, if you have one, to small ones, and have the rest nuke big one (if you have a Warlock, Seed of Corruption on the big one is incredibly good). Big one has an aura, 300 dmg/3 secs, stacking up to 10 (1k dps), so try not to bring too many melee or you're in trouble. Smaller adds don't do much dmg or have much health, but can quickly overwhelm the party, thus the melee on them.
Additionally, small rings of ice will appear on the floor troughout this phase, which will turn into large icicles after a few seconds, dealing approx 2k damage and knocking anyone hit into the air - so move away!
After the large add dies, no more if it will spawn, but small ones will continue - tanks can help kill them (druids go kitty, etc).
Phase 2:
Lord Ahune will retreat into his
core
, which you can then nuke. Blow all your CDs - this needs to go as low as possible, 40% is a good number to aim for. After a lil of this, he will move to p3.
One thing to be aware of - the ice around him can cause you to Slip Up, which is really a 1 second knockdow/stun.
Phase 3:
Same as phase 1, but an
air elemental
will spawn with water ones. Its no real problem, just an extra add to deal with and something to be aware of.
If you don't kill him in 2 cores, you are in trouble, and likely running OOM (similar to Ragnaros).
When he dies, a
chest
will spawn which contains an epic and the pattern for Enchanting
Deathfrost
, and the chance for a small pet, the
Scorchling
(in normal, i've only ever got 1 epic (a cape on normal, a neck on heroic, chance for the
Scythe
on either), although I assume theres a chance for pattern/pet). Also,
Shards of Ahune
(which start a quest for a tabard), a badge, and either some
Huge Snowballs
, which are like normal ones with a bigger animation and a higher arc when thrown, or
6 drinks
.
Good luck!
NOTE: If you wipe on heroic, you are able to summon him repeatedly as 1 character :) I did!

Actually, it's abit more like this:
Ragnaros, the Fire Lord (Fire)
Therazane, the Stonemother (Earth)
Al'Akir, the Windlord (Air)
Neptulon, the Tidehunter (Water)
Ahune, the Frost Lord, works under Neptulon, just as Thunderaan the Windseeker, works for Al'Akir.

One thing to note/clarify about the icicle spikes:
The icicle spikes spawn in
three
stages, not two as you might think at first. The first stage is a circle of frosty mist that will be centered around a party member. If you are the party member so targeted,
this is when you need to start moving away.
If you wait for the more obvious signal of the frost-nova-like effect on the ground before reacting, you're going to be spending way too much of the fight up in the air.

To groups facing trouble with Ahune, do not despair. My first encounter with Ahune was rather demoralizing, as our kara/S2 group expected to demolish him in H SP the way we used to 4-man the headless horseman. We used a simple strat of all on the elite with some aoe on the adds. Unfortunately, we wiped again and again. We did better on normal mode, but dps kept dying and eventually the healer was either oom or overwhelmed.
After taking a break, I tried it again with a lesser geared group (blues and greens) and managed to down Ahune without much problems. This time, we took note of a few things. The small elementals are going to come out for a fixed amount of time, so it doesn't really matter how quickly you get the elite down. Keep 2 dps on the non-elites and one ranged with tank on the elite.
Worked much better. Gear doesn't matter as much as you would think, but a good strat helps.

Why is everyone saying this is the hardest boss on heroic?
Just did it normal and heroic mode with:
Prot warrior
Elemental shaman
Fire mage
Aff lock
Resto shaman (me).
It was seriously easy. No problems at all to keep everyone up, adds went down smooth thanks to elemental shaman burst dps.
And then of course two times Bloodlust, for each phase 2 one. With this setup he should go down the second phase 2. Aswell phase 2 is really nuke since no-one is taking damage. Healer should go dpsing as well at this point.
Imo, the second boss in MgT Heroic is alot harder still.

I don't know why people gave my comments a negative rating about a legitimate question - there is no way to summon this boss repeatedly as one character. Once you use your charge, you're done for the day whether you finish it or not.

Keep rogues off the elite add and get them to take the non elite mobs instead, the debuff hurts a lot and your healer will likely have enough to worry about with spot healing the ice lance damage. Tried this for the first time last night prot pally, me (rogue), mage, lock, resto shammy. First 4 times = fail, I switched targets on the last go = success.

Most likely the "no loot when died in attack phase" reports are from scenarios where Ahune has bugged out. I have personally seen - and heard other reports of - Ahune getting stuck in attack phase, but without spawning adds (or doing much of anything really). At this point the party can simply hack away until Ahune dies, but no chest will spawn.
In at least my case this was caused by Ahune failing to reset properly after a wipe (he was still around, and bugged, when we returned to the instance).

Ahune has is a holiday boss for the midsummer fire festival he is like a headless horsemen for a different holiday. Ahune is located inside the slave pens in coilfang reservoir.
Ahune is a fairly simple fight as long as you keep the healer alive. he has two phases... phase one is his giant form which when he is in it he summons adds he summons a elite elemental and then mini non elite elementals thar are almost non stop the tank stands closes to Ahune to pick up the elite then the dps kills the non elite adds and the elite . phase to is when he retreats and turns into a crystal this is were you want to dps him hard. then rinse and repeat till he is down.
P.S. the tank should stand closest to Ahune dps behind a bit and then healer behind the dps so the dps can hit adds befor they damage the healer.

Just as a side note, with the same group of 5 people, you can summon him 6 times per day.
you get 1 summon per person per day, so if all 5 people have not summoned yet that day, it's 5x loot for everyone.
you get a 6th summon by attempting him on heroic. only one shot on heroic. seeing as you cannot reset heroics manually, it's the only shot you'll get for the entire day.
as another side note you technically COULD kill him more than 5 times per day, you'd just have to keep joining groups who are willing to let you leech their summons off you. this tactic usually only works if you are a tank or a healer.

Very, very lame fight. Adds zerg rush your group (I thought games as a whole had moved on from the "fill screen with enemies" crap once we stopped using the PS1, but I guess I was wrong), with constant spell interrupts the order of the day. Using a pally tank is probably the only way to hope to slog through the add waves; I wouldn't bother trying unless your group is in T4 or better gear

Fighting this boss on normal mode does not currently require that you leave the instance and reset in order to summon and defeat him again, as was required with the Headless Horseman. It also appears that you can summon him as many times as you like (even with the same player) in heroic mode until he is defeated.
I've heard rumors that he does not drop the pet or epic items on normal mode. This is
NOT
true. We have received the pet on normal mode, and he does drop epic capes. The neck pieces and Badge of Justice seem to be the only loot differences on heroic mode.

I suppose he still drops the pet though.
PS: there was no quest inside for any of us, we just touched the icestone and then he appeared. 227k hp and his adds with 2k hp was a joke of course.

TRY THIS SOLO AT YOUR OWN RISK!
Only a few people I've talked to succeeded at soloing this and you'll waste your summon if you fail.
The boss is level 73, yes, the BOSS ITSELF IS IN FACT VERY EASY, he doesn't do ANYTHING for phase 1.
Phase 1:
The boss does nothing at all, and yet this is where everyone dies! The problem is that the boss spawns about 3 new adds every 5 seconds (all level 70). The adds are ALSO EASY, they have 1750 hp and go down in 1-2 hits, but the problem is that you are CONSTANTLY OUTNUMBERED due to their fast spawn rate. Note also that the boss and adds are Frost resistant.
The adds use ranged shots for ~300-500 damage, and you will soon be getting hit by loads of them. There's also a BIG add with ~80k hp.
Spikes also appear on the ground; walk away when you see them or you will get thrown into the air! You will be unable to use bandages since the spikes form rapidly and you won't have time to bandage for more than 1-5 seconds.
Most people don't get to see phase 2.
Phase 2:
If you survive the assault, the Ice Giant retreats into the ground and a crystal appears; shoot it as fast and as much as you can. It goes back to Phase 1 when he re-appears.
Some people (like me, BM hunter using PvM tankpet and tankspec for grinding) made it through 1 phase before they had to admit defeat due to lack of healing.
Here's the problem when soloing:
DPS: Good against the boss and at killing the adds quickly, but due to there being no healing, your health will just keep getting lower and lower and lower, and eventually you will be defeated even if you do manage to live through Phase 1. Remember that Bandages are useless due to the spikes, and you can only use a potion once.
Healing: Forget it. Every priest I've talked to has failed badly. Sure you can heal yourselves massively. So what? You will be getting hit by 20 adds that constantly push back your spells, and forget having time to cast any damaging spells apart from DoTs. Game over for these classes.
Tank: Forget it. Sure you can absorb the assault of mobs but your DPS will be too low to burn through the boss and adds fast enough.
And here's where hybrids actually have a chance:
Druids: Tank, DPS and Healer in one, you should have an easier job than other classes.
Blood Death Knights: Come on, massive damage, plate and self-healing based on outgoing damage? Should work with this class.
Paladins: Enough said...
Edit:
Oh, magically my post was given one downvote at the same time as the below
Paladin Elnarr
posted that he had soloed it. I guess the truth hurts. ;-) Having pointed that out, I am sure more paladins will vote me down... :-(* Haha.
Edit2:
And now he's heading down a slippery slope at -13... funny how things can backfire. :-)
Update: Funny how accurate the above statement turned out to be:
Here's the current count of people who have replied "I soleed it lolz so eazy! ":
Paladins: 9 (6 Retribution, 3 Prot.)
Druids: 2 (2 Feral)
Death Knights: 2 (1 Blood, 1 Unholy)
Warriors: 1 (1 Protection
who is REALLY well geared! For your next trick, repeat it in blues like paladins ;-)
).
This pattern reinforces my observations that it's only really
safely
soloable (or doable at all) with hybrid classes. For other classes, the outcome is heavily stacked against you and will be
very
gear dependent.
Update: Rubyloc wins the "think-before-you-type comment of the week" award for this one:
"Killed both normal and heroic versions today. Really easily soloed as retribution paladin, a shame really - they should've upped the level to 80." -- because everything revolves around the most overpowered class in the game (along with DKs)? I just had to quote this in case his post gets purged, it made me laugh. ;-)
Now the difference between Heroic and Normal:
A couple of things change on Heroic; of course the adds and boss have more HP and hit harder, but you also get... *drumroll* a
BC badge
and
FOUR
EXTRA
CRAPPY
ITEMS
! Yes, for putting yourselves through Heroic mode, you'll win some Level 70 necklaces, congratulations! They are useless.
BUT there IS a bonus to Heroic: First off, if you wipe on heroic you don't lose your summon (you do on normal). Why not? Because there is no quest on heroic! You just click the frost stone
**
! (On normal you get a
quest at the entrance
and lose it when you
start the summon
). This also means that you can do the quest on normal AND the heroic non-quest summon all in one day! For a group of 5 people that's 6 summons (the heroic version is treated like a regular boss and only reappears when the instance resets).
**
Don't lick it, you'll get stuck. I know it's tempting, it looks like a big ice cube... Mmm... ~~ ice cubes ~~~~ *drool* ... what do you mean I'm the only one with an ice-cube fetish? Stop looking at me like that!
Hint: If you want to do an unneccessary pre-quest, then
start here instead
. You might as well do it since I am pretty sure it will count towards your loremaster achievement.
Things that drop on both Normal and Heroic:
When he dies, he drops an
enchanting recipe
, a
scythe
, a
massively cool pet
,
some beer
,
HIS FRICKING TESTICLES
(he always drops a pair),
four
extremely
crappy
cloaks
, and a
quest item
(always drops but you can only get it once) which rewards one of two possible tabards (
summer flames
or
summer skies
, both sounding like
porn star names
).
So remember, bring some friends and enjoy, then get the hell out of there when you get what you wanted!
Also note that
none of the items can be disenchanted
.
Extra extra, this just in:
"
They can't be vendored either
" - mouseno4, disappointed raider. "It was going so well... I had planned to sell part of the loot... you know, the noobst0ff", says mouseno4, "I guess daddy won't be bringing home any steak tonight." Adds his wife: "Oh, I'm sure he's bringing home some
wang
and

Very easily solo'd as a Feral, albeit in Naxx 25/Uld 10 gear, but I imagine it's possible in heroics or Naxx 10. I would suggest doing it in tanking gear and spec, though.
Phase 1:
Simply take the elite and DPS him while constantly swiping the smaller elementals. Pop mitigation/avoidance trinkets to make it a little easier to survive. Make sure you constantly move the elite to avoid ice spikes. The hardest part of the encounter was the occasional stun that the elite does, which if you're unlucky can put you right above a spike. If this happens, don't panic, just continue moving and DPSing.
Phase 2:
Kill remaining adds and quickly go behind Ahune in cat. If Berserk is up, use it - make sure you save Berserk only for this phase, as it will help tremendously with DPS (also, having
Shredding Attacks
will make it more easier - I know I didn't and only got a handful of Shreds in). Make sure before you start Shredding you situate a Mangle, Rake, and 5 point Rip - the damage over time while you're taking the adds in Phase 1 will do more than the extra Shreds you may get.
When the warning comes up that he's resurfacing, refresh Mangle if you need to and get out of their quickly for the next phase and heal up if you need to. Don't worry too much about how much damage you do - it's a long but fairly easy fight to survive in.
I can confirm that soloing this will allow you to reset the instance. Had 1 heroic and 1 normal for scythe and 3 heroics and 1 normal for Scorchling.

Blood DK soloing mini-guide:
Phase 1 - Don't get close to the snow surrounding boss, he'll kick you in the air, and you'll lose HP... stay a bit back, and start with PS on elite add. No need to switch targets, pestilence is also not necessary. just use DS on elite and kill smaller ones with blood boil. Keep on moving from the ice spikes. You should have no problems keeping your hp up as long as elite add is alive.
Once the elite one dies you'll start losing hp a bit faster - it's quite difficult to spread disease among targets that die in one hit - don't forget your blood tap here. just kill off smaller things with alternatively PS / HS so your runes are running. Save 100 RP for phase 2.
Phase 2 - once boss is announced as vulnerable go to blood presence, use DRW/hysteria or other cooldowns you might have. If there are still adds remaining from phase one just bloodboil few times and forget about them, boss should be your main focus here.
When a message "ahune is about to return" appears, start moving from the spikes that will start appearing under your character again. you have around 10-15 seconds to continue with DPS at this point. I would recommend take distance again, since next phase is identical to phase 1.
Phase 3 - The same as phase one, but a new kind of adds appears randomly - air elementals. They must be dealed the same way as the other ones - blood boil them and they die in 2 casts.
I prefer doing this boss in frost presence for phase 1 and blood for phase 2, nevertheless it can be done easily entirely in blood presence with no need to switch. If you succeed at running off the frost spikes and do good dps when boss is vulnerable, boss will die in 3-4 DPS phases max.

Ive been trying to solo this for quite a awile now on heroic as a warlock, I've tried many things.
Dest- This always ends up with me not having enough health >.> the farthest Ive gotten is like the 6th wave duel water elementals
51/20/0- I made this spec as a spec to survive I figured if I can outlast phase 1 I should be fine in phase 2 but, After many failed tries of not even getting to phase 2 I finally got there and when I did I got him down to maybe 60%, which at this rate would require 3 phase 1's which I deem impossible
If any other locks have fared better then me please inform me of what you are doing

Did it in pvp ele spec btw with 35 sec thunder and stoneclaw glyphs to reduce dmg and ae adds down easy. Only time i got too high dmg or had problems was when i dident dodge ice properly while the big add was up, which is a must.
Just thought i would post to maybe give some non tank/plate class some hope cuz it can definatly be done by atleast shamans.
Gonna see if i can get my pet now.

I can confirm that the heroic is soloable even in Heroic / 10Naxx gear for a feral druid. Biggest part is to not overstay cat form when he resurfaces and watch for the ice spikes as soon as it says that. It'll make a dent in you're health if you're not good about switching quickly. Granted, you take pretty much no damage when you're in the adds phase so don't sweat it if you mistime now and again.

Well, I just did this as a Prot Warrior with mostly 10/25 man gear, no Ulduar gear, 28.2k hp unbuffed, def cap, 41% dodge/parry and 29% block.
There really is not alot of Tactics to this, just simply don't get hit by spikes, kill the elite as fast as you can, take down the non-elites with TC or Shockwave or just use some cleave and stuff when elite is dead to keep their numbers down
Now, get ready for a freaking long fight, took me about 17 minutes or something due to the low dps when he Submerges since I'm rage-starved like hell.
Just remember, every time they are off CD, do the order: Commanding shout>Last stand>Enraged Regeneration>Shield wall, this will maximize the hp you get from Enraged Regeneration, and also reduce the dmg you take while getting healed by alot.
Other than that, it is mostly a tank and spank fight, just make sure to stay away from Ahune and the Ice fields and never stop moving. The Ice spikes is a MUST, a couple of hits and you are just about *!@#ed, also try to run in a circle with your char facing towards the middle of it so you face the adds as much as possible or you won't Mitigate anything.
I died once in the start due to running into Ahune and pulling a trash pack by accident before I got my kite-path down, so I strongly advice clearing all the trash close to all the ice crystals and the patrols.

Fairly easy Prot Pally solo.
Keep your back against the wall in the middle, the only thing that can damage you really is fall damage from the punt thing. Don't get anywhere near Ahune until he submerges, else you will die very quickly. Always focus on the big add, the little ones die in your consecrate.
I had mostly quest blues, and a couple crafted epics.
Buffs:
-Seal of Light (SoL + JoW was fine for this fight
-Divine Plea
-Sacred Shield (remember to keep it up)
-Retri Aura
-Righteous Fury
-Blessing of Sanctuary
-The Fire Festival Bonfire buff
Never got below 80% of health.

Soloed on heroic this morning as a ret paladin.
I used my Titansteel Shield Wall with titanium armor plating, my Teldrassil Protector (tourney tank axe), and the tank badge libram. Also put on my icebane girdle, boots, and titanium frostguard ring + frost resist aura. All other stuff was Naxx10/25 ret gear, and some valor badge gear. I also self-buffed with Dragonfin Filet and a stam scroll.
Clearing trash can be a pain on heroic. The lobsters hit for 1500 on plate+shield, but can be CCed with repentance.
When the first waves spawned, I focused on the elite add while dodging ice spikes. Seal of Blood/Judge of Light, blasting elite with everything I had. I kept Sacred Shield up the whole time and healed myself with FoL every time Art of War procced. Divine storm healed me up nicely from the adds as well.
As soon as Ahune submerged, I equipped Armageddon, popped my wings, and smashed on him until he resurfaced, then re-equipped shield and axe. I used the same tactics as before, bubbling when I got stunned on the ice and got low on health. After Ahune submerged again, I got him down to less than 20%. I used a health pot and LoH right near the end, and got him when he submerged the third time.
TLDR - clear trash, 1H+shield for adds, keep Sacred Shield up, keep moving to avoid ice spikes, frost resist helps.

Confirmed that he can be soloed on heroic mode with out saving you to the instance and then run out reset and kill him again. However, if you do normal and then try to do heroic, you cannot summon him for what ever reason. I soloed him as an 80 Feral Druid, does take a little more time if your undergeared though. :)
Edit: They took it as they needed to hotfix it this year so you can't solo on heroic and reset T_T NOOOOO My epix l00tzors

Don't bother soloing this as a pure DPS or tank/dps hybrid class. I can see this being solo'd by some pallies, blood dks, maybe druids, but nothing else.
Obviously, the water elemental adds are immune to frost, so mages can't CC with blizzard. However, with arcane explosion a mage can take out adds in 4, maybe 5 hits max.
I reccommend getting two people there, go on LFG and tell people you can use the summon stone to zap them there (because it's a raid, too, so there's no level cap for the stone) and having a group with a tank, dps, and maybe some heals. If your tank is a paladin or a blood dk, heals will probably not be needed.
There's no such thing as too many people, unless you're also there for the loots. There is no prereq quest that I know of to get the summoning daily, so if you have a 5 person group you can try up to 5 times a day on normal.
As for the fight, with a good group it's basic. Start by having your "tank" (I had an arms warrior tank this) gather up the adds and mainly elite. Have all dpsers blow their AoEs to kill the low level, easy to kill adds (just not frost). DnD works good, as does arcane explosion and all fire spells from mages.
When the elite is dead, keep holding back the flow of adds until a message appears alerting you that the Frozen Core is exposed. Nuke it as hard as you can. With my group of 4 80s, we managed to do this in one run. If you fail to take the core all the way dead, then phase 1 restarts.
When the core's hitpoints reach 0, Ahune will be slain and a chest will appear containing loot, money, and a group-loot quest starter. Everyone should grab the starter who hasn't already - it's a simple speak-to quest that gives you money and 20 tokens for the Festival.

Fairly trivial to solo as a tank specced feral druid in a mix of Naxx25 and Ulduar 25 gear.
Swipe the hell out of the trash till they die then swap out to cat dps when Ahune drops down and blow your berserk to get as much damage in as possible. Repeat a second wave of adds and you should be able to finish him off in the second downtime.
Frenzied regen is handy here, I like to blow mine about 30 secs before ahune it due to drop down to use up my rage that'll go anyway when I swap out to cat. The downtime with no adds waiting on you is handy for an emergency heal if you need one (I didn't) and also for valuable cooldown for a new FR.

Confirmed about priests ending badly. I tried to solo him last night on normal as Naxx Uld geared discipline spec. Made it for a little while by fearing the adds, pain suppression, holy nova the adds, etc. The spell interrupts, the spikes, the slipping on ice, and the stacking dot just overwhelmed too quickly. Should be fairly easy to handle with just one additional person.

On a side note, anyone find it strange that a guy this "weak" would be intended to fight Ragnaros? He would use this guy for ice in his beverages! lol
As for my experience, in starter 80 gear I managed to solo normal mode as enhancement shammy, used totems to keep the mini elementals dead while i killed the big one, took 3 phase 2's but i made it, the ice is definatly a pain though, and I saw people saying the slip stun was about 3 seconds but i swear most of mine were 5 or 6

I was able to get the Ice Stone below half before I ran out of mana partway through the 3rd phase as a disc priest in full Ulduar25 gear and Spark of Hope. If I had been spec'd properly with reflective shield and a reduced shadowfiend cooldown, this seems very easily soloable. The small adds die in 2 holy novas (should die in 1 if you have reflective shield) and you just nuke the big guy while shielding yourself and holy nova on every other wave of small adds.
Don't let the naysayers above discourage you if you have the gear and are willing to spec for it.

Here's a wacky something that can occur with this boss.
I was attempting to solo Ahune with my lvl80 feral druid, barely made it through Phase 1, zoomed over to Ahune at the start of Phase 2 and DPSed like mad and barely made a dent - yes, I know, I have sucky gear that really isn't up to the task. Anyway, as you can probably guess, the beginning of Phase 3 utterly killed me.
This is where the interesting wacky something occurred: I did not get the raid message "The Frost Lord has won" message popping up on screen. Out of interest, I re-entered the instance and went to Ahune's room - he was still in the middle of the room, with the summoned Hailstone. As I watched, the Hailstone just suddenly died, leaving Ahune all alone.
I was able to fight Ahune at this point. He was in his phase 1 form with his 75% damage reduction on, so it took absolutely forever. But there were no summons and no ice spikes, making him pathetically easy to defeat.
When he died he didn't drop the Ice Chest though.
Does anyone know what would have happened and why there were no summons or ice spikes?

Death Knight Comments :
I had the choice, because of double spec, between a tanking blood spec and a dps unholy.
I chose to go for blood, mostly because of Vampiric Blood and Rune Tap, which come in very handy. Improved Death Strike is also nice. The double hits with Heart Strike were also very helpful, and so was the burst damage from Runeblade+Hysteria.
Fost is not recommended : Ahune and his adds are immune to it.
You will only be able to apply one disease : blood plague. If you are blood specced, each Death Strike will grant you 7.5% health. (10% in unholy thanks to ebon plague, but you use death strike less often in that spec).
My main pieces of advice are :
- Stay away from the boss to not get knocked back.
- Move continuously to avoid the ice tombs.
-
Use Frost Presence
against the main add, and switch to blood for the smaller adds and boss.
- Use Ghoul Sacrifice, Army of the Dead (+ Sacrifice), Rune Tap, as much as you can. Healing is essential.
- Use tanking gear : more HP means more health regeneration through Rune Tap, Sacrifice and Death Strike.
You should be able to lower is HP by 25% per phase.

Did it solo as 80 Feral druid tank spec. Was pretty easy, trash clearing actually got me lower on health. I never had to use any pots or major cd's just barkskin when it was up to ease the dmg.
I stay at nearly full health most of the time, just swiping the little guys while mangle/maul on the big one. I think my Essence of Gossamer Trink helped a ton absorbing most the little adds dmg, allowing me to regain more health with Leader of the Pack
It took me 4 phases to down him, coulda been faster but I mistakenly stayed in bear the first time due to adds up, next 3 times as cat the adds leftover didn't bother me at all.
Note* I did get saved after downing him

Fairly easy to solo as an Enhancement shammy in mostly Naxx 10 gear. I just burned down the big add at the beginning of each phase and kept a Magma totem down to AoE the little guys.
Pretty much all of your Maelstrom procs need to go to Healing Wave, but it's not a huge deal as you get a full mana bar back during each Phase 2 from Shamanistic Rage. Only had to go through 2 air phases though, managed to get the core down to ~60k in the first submerge.

I easily soloed this as a lvl 80 prot warrior using shield block set
6.32% miss from 558 defense
24.10% dodge
18.25% parry
43.52% shield block (1310 block value)
Normal mode took me 13 mins to solo
Heroic took me 20 mins to solo. Heroic was just as easy just took longer. I didn't take any more dmg on heroic really. Since my setup is pretty much godmode vs melee mobs doing under 1310 dmg. There is no need to wear frost resist either.
Once mobs stop respawning and you can attack crystal, is when you bandage if needed. But if you are geared like I am, you can just use enraged regeneration and never have to bandage or pot.
Also soloed normal mode on my resto druid today (2k healing with 350mana casting / 500 not casting) Just healed myself in tree form till I got omen procs then I barkskin hurricane to kill the low hp mobs. Leaving the high hp elite attacking me while I attack crystal. Took 1 hour though as I had to keep enough mana to heal myself. I could only use about 20% of my mana on dps per innervate, the other 80% was spent healing and waiting for my next innervate to dps again.
Like 67% of my dmg done with thorns, about 30% from hurricane, the rest from moonfire + wrath.

It is important to note that Ahune is NOT an elemental lord.
He is Neptulon's lietenant.
Neptulon is an old god, he controls the element water.
Al'akir controls air and is thusly an old god.
C'thun=old god (im not sure what he controls)
Yogg-Saron is the old god of death
Therazane and Ragnaros are lieutenants to the old gods, ive seen people making the mistake of calling them old gods. They are not in any way old gods. Since we are able to kill them, im not sure blizzard would make an old god the end boss of mauradon. And ragnaros is just a lietenant, he is a lord of fire however.
Hope this clears up any confusion.

On 21st of June, The Mídsummer Fire Festival starts. Therefore, Ahune will be the first oppurtunity for players to get to try the new seasonal boss "reward bag" which Blizz implented around 3.3
The "reward bag", for those who don't know, is just like the bag from Eregos Cache in The Oculus. In stead of just 1 mount dropping, like the horseman used to, everybody now has a chance to get the mount from their "reward bag", in stead of having to roll on it, and somebody maybe ninja'ing it.

Very easy fight as long as everyone knows what to do. Ranged attack boss while tank and melee work on mobs. When boss reveals core, everyone attacks core like crazy. Repeat if necessary.
Just came from a group where the healer QQ'd because the ranged were attacking boss and he wanted us to attack mobs instead. So, I have to say, good luck doing this fight with people who don't know what they're doing but like to pretend to.

AS a holy paladin healing this at least once a day I've noticed a few things for healers:
1. Do not stand on the right hand side of the platform, you will be thrown into the water when the spikes hit you at the WORST possible moment. (It's like ahune goes 'oooh almost killed that one, LET'S THROW THE HEALER INTO THE WATER)
2. if you get popped up in the air, self heal with instant cast (only needed before you land if your health is a bit low) and immediately move to the center of the room again when you land, perhaps even nearer to the high wall.
Re those two tips: I haven't lost anyone yet but by letting myself get thrown to the right hand side of the platform and not moving back, it has caused me to almost lose two people. Plus swimming is not fun.
3. if you get thrown towards Ahune, you must move immediately back out of the ice, preferably to the lefthand side of the room and back a fair few yards. His aura will quickly kill you otherwise.
4. let hunter/warlock/dk pets die. If the hunter/warlock/dk chose to send them into ahune's aura, don't waste your mana. if they're fighting on the floor with the baby eles, feel free to shoot them a heal. I could focus holy light after holy light on a pet in the aura and it would only succeed in wasting my mana.
5. use the retreat phase to top people off, refresh beacon, etc in case your dps and tank can't burn him down at first.
For Melee DPS & Tanks:
you are perfectly able to hit him from the center, middle just at the edge of the ice. you do not need to be right on top of his gem during core phase. This frustrates your healer because if the following two conditions are present, you take a nice chunk of damage: 1. the dps is unable to down him and he reverts to phase 1 again from core phase. 2. you are unable to get out of the ice around him fast enough.
Let us review:
healer in water = bad
healer on land = good
Ahune's Aura = big dmg = bad

Just to clarify some misconceptions about this new functionality, the summoning of holiday bosses is going away. Players can queue for these bosses via the Dungeon Finder or special holiday NPCs found in the world. Once the party is finalized, the group will be ported directly to the area where the holiday boss resides. Players can kill the holiday bosses as often as they want for standard loot (epic rings, trinkets, etc.), however, they will only drop one holiday-themed loot trove per player per day. These loot troves will have a chance of containing rare holiday items such as The Horseman's Reins.
The way players were grandfathering in alt characters, scamming others by not having a summon available, and continually soft-resetting dungeons -- creating a major load on instance capacity -- was never intended.
The change has some positive and some negative consequences, however, we feel it's the best way to make this a better system and more in-line with our original plans for World Event bosses.
He drops 232 cloaks out of the chest along with the enchant
Deathfrost
and you can recieve the 232
Frostscythe
or
Ice Chip
(
Frigid Frostling
) pet out of the bag along with 2
Frost emblems
.
**His chest may also contain
Huge Snowballs
or
Lord of Frost's Private Label
and
Shards of Ahune
which give you the quest for the tabard/achievement
**Note for tanks and melee dps: Ahune does "
Ahune Spank Knockback and Snow
" that does about 8k-ish damage and knocks you back about 30 yards. So just pick up and dps adds till he goes into his "
Frozen Core
" stage then dps him down as fast as possible. He will not have "
Ahune's Shield
" and will be easier to damage during this time. If everyone is dpsing (including tank and healer) you can get him down fairly easily without hitting another add phase.
ps. his knock back does 8k-ish damage but also gives you a
Pocket Full of Snow
that contains
Snowballs
.

First! Heh, couldnt help myself.
Hope this helps.

As another thing, tanks don't have a huge amount to do here. Tank teh elite while the mobs spawn like flies on yesterday's cheeseburger. Then when he "retreats" into the frozen core, just spank him. When it says he's about to resurface, y'all want to back right up to give DPS a chance to find their targets, then keep tanking the elite again. Rinse and repeat.

Yeah, we have a shadowpriest working as our healer today - he's not in shadowform, just dropping basic heals and we're doing alright. DPS is a priority, though, otherwise the adds will flood you over.

To clarify, you don't need to do any pre-quests in order to summon Ahune (at least in Reg. SP).
You just enter the instance, clear the first 5-6 pulls, talk to the Earthen Ring NPC, and summon the boss.
Also, if you're doing this on Reg.
you don't need to reset the instance if you're killing him again
, simply have the next person with the quest start it at the NPC. This could also hold true for Heroic, but as I have yet to try it, I don't know for sure.
As for the boss itself, the best method we used was as such:
Group was Fire Mage(myself), Resto Druid, Ele Shaman, Rogue, and Warrior tanking.
When the boss spawns, he throws out an elite Earth elemental that needs to be tanked, as it does an AoE bleed to everyone near it. We focused all dps on this mob first, before killing the masses of nonelites after. The nonelites only have around 1300 health, so they're no problem after the elite is dead.
Also while he is spawning the little guys and you're tanking the Elite add, he'll be sending ice spikes under random party members, they have a little graphic near your feet, sort of a swirl, a second or two before they erupt. If you get hit by one you take a mediocre amound of damage and get catapulted into the air. Watch you don't land in the water like I did...
After a certain time, the boss retreats into his "Core". Pour every ounce of dps into the Core as fast as you can, there is no aggro table here. While Ahune is in regular form all damage he takes is reduced by 75%, which is why you dps him now.
With a decently geared group we killed him on the second Core phase a few times, usually getting him to about 40% during the first Core phase.
Kind of long-winded, but I hope it helps!

Then the monolith thingy will reappear, someone who hasnt summoned yet that day can go and click it again. From what i heard he can only be killed once in heroic per day. But i believe u can get 5 chances to summon him until u finally kill him.

There will be a whirl of Blue around you and then a small mound of ice will appear at your feet then sometimes instantly a giant spear will Shwwwooooppp outa the ground and launch you into the air. I've only done this on regular and the spears don't hurt much just more annoying for cast innteruption than anything. As soon as you see the Whirl stop what your doing and gtfo.
Also. This is a Dps Race. Dps the Adds Dps the boss when he goes under and dps the elite. Other than that you can have sub-par heals and weaksauce tank. With a mage a warlock and a rogue we soloed the boss from 34% when our bear tank died and Dps just unloaded on the adds and the rogue "tanked" the elite.
The adds only hit for 2-300 but if you get 4-5 of them on you they'll start setting your cast times back and they start to hurt O.o
ALSO. You can have really good tank and a really good healer but if your dps sucks you won't be able to finish this fight. The first time i tried this we lasted about 6 phases or so before we wiped. Dps wasn't fast enough. Healers gonna oom and the tank will die then it's gg.

Tactics in short:
This fight is like a Curator fight.
Kill the adds & everything you see till he weakens. After you killed ALL the adds, start nuking Ahune till you have to kill the adds again. It's that simple.
Melee classes should be on the adds ALL THE TIME!
Whenever you do a melee dmg on the rock elemental add, you'll get a stacking debuff which can tick FOR A LOT! Only the tank should have that debuff.
HEALERS! Mana intesive fight. Just unreal ... Always come with mana potions.
Yes, frost resistance will help a lot during this fight.
Paladin use frost aura.
Shaman use frost totem.
Frost resistance gear isn't required tho.
Good luck!

This boss is hard for healers, i guess healers should have +1200 healing for killing him. i tried like 8 times and did not kill him, my healing bonus is 985...

not nessecary.
tank has to be in front of all other party members and pickup all of the mobs after pickin up big elite. do this with thunder clap and the healer can focuss on healing only the tank. a decent geared tank would be able to not get hit very hard and the healer wont be in danger of runnin out of mana. a shammy would come in very handy as he can put up a mana totem, but u already knew that didnt u

This is how we have been downing him -
Pally Tank, Heals, 2 Warlocks, random dps
have the Tank hold aggro on the Elite Spawn and spam consencration, and have the heals stand beside the tank, this should harness all of the mobs up into one area.
Have the 2 locks contineously seed of corruption the elite mob, with heals and tank standing on top of each other, all the smaller weaker mobs will flock to them, and the seeds will pop on the elite mob destroying the smaller ones, and have the random dps focus dps on the elite mob. Just watch out for the blue swirls on the ground, and the rest is cake.

This might be a dumb question but, do you have to be 70 to roll on "Frostscythe of Lord Ahune" I have a 64 warlock and was wondering if i could have some 70's run me through and i could get the staff for when I am 70! I noticed that you only have to be 65 to get the quest. Also does it have to be on heroic SP or can you do it on REG or both?

Suggestion to tanks who carry DPS gear sets.
As many mentioned above, this fight is all about the DPS. The elite elemental does not hit very hard and so for this fight, tanking in your DPS gear is the way to go.
Also note that the "core" or crystal looking thing that Ahune retreats into still has a backside so take full advantage of this to increase your DPS.
Cheers!

As long as the healer is good, a druid healer is perfect for this fight, as well as a druid tank, because while it's in it's core phase the healer and i switched to cat and were able to join in the dps with the others (we also had a hunter with a cat pet, a lock with a felgaurd, and a mage). We got him down all five times on normal mode and our only death was our mage once but she was battle rezzed during the fight. the first time we were still getting used to it but the other times we were able to down him in 3 core phases. he dropped the caster cloak twice, the healing, dps, and tank cloaks once, and the enchanting pattern along with one of those. a very easy fight, and since it's a daily each time a person activates the stone to summon him you get 12g. realy easy fight with a good group, and just one more thing. if your feral druid tank gets knocked into the air:
Midair Feral Charge = Flying Bears

Its a really easy fight. We actually downed without a tank, or so. I was main tank, Boomkin, while paly was healer and 3 clothies, shadow priest, mage and lock. First round got him down to 39, then ate him next. played all 5 dailies and got almost every cloak it seems, then the enchant dropped on 5th kill. Boomkin FTW

hes a joke, dont see any reason why anyone cant kill him easily, just keep adds off the healer and DPS him down when he submerges(his shield is gone) and hes dead. We did it with druid who easily tanked adds in DPS gear aswel as DPSed ahune when shield was down, myself rogue and a rogue and warlock, warlock used seed of corruption to AOE adds, me and other rogue watched out for any loose adds who went for our healer and nuked him hard when shield was down hes really easy aswell as got some nice loot GL.

We managed to kill Ahune on the first attempt and we took him to 21% on the first "Kill phase"

Just Aoe the small adds down while working on the big add. Seed of corruption spam works great and clears the room easily. Tell your healer to stay back and pay attention to the mobs. without aoe, any melee dps worth their salt should be able to tear through them easily.
For heroic mode you may need a skilled healer, but if the rest of the group is quick on the adds this boss is cake

On heroic you and only fight Ahune once. This is to keep players from getting 5 badges for killing him 5 times. The hardest part of the fight on heroic is the hailstone chill the Ahunite Hailstone (the big rock lookin elemental) puts on all the party members within range. All melee, except for the tank, therefore should help work on the adds because once you get the hailstone chill to stack up to 10 times you take 3000 damage every 3 seconds. Cloak of Shadows won't get rid of the chill either. Keeping the healer's mana up is the hardest part. So, make sure you bring lots of pots for all if playing on heroic. When Ahune's core is vulnerable everyone dps it! That means warrior's duel wield for that part and priest healers wand the core. Did it with a team of players wearing full vengeful. Probably a lot easier with a team with t5 or t6. Also on another side note the enchant recipe drops 100% on heroic!

Well ive tried to down Ahune about 10 times now, and wastn successful until the 7th.He may seem extremely difficult at first ,but hes actually pretty easy when you get the strat down. This is what i beat him with...
70 holy priest,70 hunter,70 hunter,70 warlock, and a 70 prot warr (me)
When you summon Ahune have the warrior aggro the elemental elite and pull him back far away from ahune, let the warlock dps the elite while the warr tanks him. Have the priest/healer stay back as well. The 2 hunters should be fairly close to Ahune, but not to close (you dont want to exit healing range). Ahune will send out waves of non-elite elementals, immediately have the hunters kill them before they can get to the healer. When the lock/warr downs the elite, all dps on the non-elites until there gone. Then your entire party should be DPSing Ahune. We got him to about 50% after the first wave (lock DoTs help alot). Then repeat the strategy with the elite and non elites until he is vulnerable again. You should be able to kill him after the 2nd wave. We did him 3 times in a row, he dropped all 3 epic cloaks :D Hope this helps. And as for mages, they probably arent necessary here (ESPECIALLY FROST MAGES). Good luck!

this is really rough w/ a resto druid. I'd suggest staying away from tree form and using HT as often as possible, the HoTs do draw lots of aggro from the adds.

just like what the first person posted and ganafin posted, i recommend having atleast one 800+ spell dmg lock for reg and 2 800+ lock for heroic, because seed is the best aoe for this battle. Just make sure to have healer around tank and you should get all full hits with seed. The most important thing is when the water element appear they will shoot a blast at the most nearest mob this is the time you will seed the earth element because all the mobs will attack either healer or tank.
Also dots regardless of it being stage 1 or 2 still sticks and remains on timer. So if you dot stage 2 even though it returns go back to stage it still gets hit for the dmg over the regular time.

Here's a simplified strat:
Phase one:
this tank is easy. just becareful of the frost spikes that will toss you in the air. You can avoid then if you keep moving around and watch the ground, you will see frost appear about 2-3seconds before the spike shoots up. Have your tank concentrat on the hailstone elite. have your tank stand about 10 yards from ahune to pick up the adds with an aoe taunt or attack, pally tanks make this phase cake, druids can use your roar and swipe to get most of them, and warriors' thunderclap and shouts work too.
Make sure to keep killing all the adds whille attacking the elite. use direct damage attacks/spells to conserve mana for casters. soon ahune goes to phase 2.
Phase 2:
Ahune goes to a frozen core. nows the time to unload on him for 30 seconds. Use drums of battle if you can and any trickets and cool downs. This is the best and realy only time to do damage to him. ( he has a 75%dmg reduction when he's in phase one)
Rinse and repeat. Usualy this will take 3 rounds of the phases. I've done it twice in a group where we did it in two. Goodluck!

Lord Ahune <The Frost Lord> is a frost lord in Neptulon's service. The Twilight's Hammer plan to have him battle Ragnaros to start an elemental war on Azeroth. Players summon Ahune as they complete the quest Summon Ahune. He is only available during the Midsummer Fire Festival. His weapon seems to be just like Murmur weapon seems to be a and to how Thunderaan has and how Ragnaros has .
He apparently spawns increased number of adds after each re-emerge both in heroic and normal mode.
Phase 1
During this phase Ahune will summon multiple adds, among which one will be an elite frost elemental. This add has an aura that affects all people in melee range; it does 300 frost damage every 3 seconds and stacks up to 10 times the longer one is in melee range for a total of 3000 damage every 3 seconds. Tank him away from the party and have ranged dps burn him down fast while melee starts on the small adds. These adds have very little HP but hit quite hard on cloth (~1200) and they tend to attack whoever is on top of the global threat which will most likely be a healer. The small adds also pull random party members to themselves from time to time. The targets of this ability seems to be random.
Ahune himself only takes 25% damage during this phase so dpsing him is more or less pointless even though those few percent can make the change between sinking and swimming. He will periodically shoot frost bolts on players which do a small amount of damage (~800) to everyone. Every now and then he will do an impale like attack on random people. The attack is avoidable and has a fairly obvious animation at the place where the spike will surface so ideally no one should be hit by this. Around 90 seconds after the start of phase 1 he will enter the second phase.
Phase 2
Once phase 1 ends, Ahune will submerge and his core will become vulnerable. No adds will spawn during this phase. One dps should take care of the remaining adds (The elite elemental should be dead by the start of this phase). He will remain submerged for 30 seconds and everyone including the tank should dps the core. After 30 seconds he will re-emerge and restart the cycle but the second time he emerges one more type of adds will start spawning (Heroic Mode only). A well geared party can survive 4 cycles but Ahune should be killed the third time he submerges because the next time he emerges the party is most likely to be overwhelmed.
Notes About Roles
Tank: This is a simple fight for you. Just stay away from the things that pop you up in the air.
DPS: You should be well geared. Limit your mana expenditures once the elite is down. Make sure you can DPS hard during Phase 2.
Healers: Aggro management is key here. Priests are particularly well suited for this fight with their combination of Fear and Fade spells. Keep the tank topped off during Phase 1, but ultimately the DPSers are what wins this fight. They need to live.
Once you have Ahune down to 15% or less during Phase 2, he should be burned to completion, ignoring the elementals during Phase 1.

Like the Headless Horseman, Ahune's drops cannot be disenchanted. Unlike the Horseman, however, they can be vendored.

It seems only one person can start/get the quest in the group which was weird. You might be able to just click the crystal to summon him anyways though, not sure.
Boss is super easy you just clear the adds around him first before you summon him. When he spawns the adds, kill big add (earth elemental), and small adds (earth elementals) for a while until his shield disappears. Then you have a little bit to PEW PEW him. Save lust and cooldowns for this time. After his shield goes back up (if you dont kill him in time), add phase repeats.
He dropped one item on heroic (neck piece confirmed). Also dont forget to loot his chest for an extra badge! And for a quest item to turn in for your blue quality summer tabards!
