This is the only nether ray currently in the game that does not suffer from caster stats. They are located immediately after the second boss, in packs of 3. The heroic version are lv71, so you'll have to run it on normal to tame one.

Now why would you want a fen ray? they have +3% DPS, +10% hp (calculated after buffs and scaling) and -10% armor (deducted from base armor only). Thus, the Fen Ray has the highest HP of any hunter pet, and decent dps while only sacrificing a few percent of damage reduction. Also, they look identical (minus the saddle) to the Green Riding Nether Ray available at exalted from the Shat'ari Skyguard, creating a Bloodlord Mandokir effect if you have both. :P

Their only drawbacks are their sole diet of meat and their inability to learn any damage move other than Bite (though this could be considered an advantage as well, as it frees you from being forced to put talent points in focus-generating abilities to maximize your pets dps, giving you more flexibility).

The tremor totem won't dispel the fear caused by the fen ray because it's actually a horror effect.

On pulls containing these, my rogue is immediately removed from stealth upon entering combat.
Quite an annoying bug for ambush-happy rogues.

These pets are tamable...

A hunter friend and I (Both 70) ran the instance with a few lowbies just to get her the pet.

We pulled a group of three, nuked down two of them, I blinded the remaining one, she dropped trap and tamed from there.

One of the few Nether Rays that does not suffer from "Caster" stats, guildy was very happy with this evil but elegant looking beast.

Like everyone says, your Tremor Totem won't work on them, but no one suggested a Grounding Totem. This works well.

It says that he can be level 64-71 so if you tamed him at 71 would he stay at level 71 when you tame him? if so that would be cool!

is actually Death Coil (a la the warlock ability) so don't get caught out trying to trinket or WoF out of it. Bestial Wrath still good though.

So about how deep in the instance are these guys, anyway? I'd really like to have a Nether Ray that's worth the time to tame, how far d'you have to go before you see one?

I love the looks of these guys and when i get high enough to tame on of these guys i will because i love outland beast espuccialy the Warpstalker thingys and the outland design of wind serpent and this guy is in my top 3 i want to catch one i realy do want one.Btw blizzard needs to need keep there blasted caster stats to them selves those lil frikin caster morons. Cus this is the ONLY NON-CASTER Nether Ray

What level are these in heroic..cause if i can just get a good grp that will let me tame 1 if its 70 it will save me the time of bringin 1 up from lvl 64

Recently, I tried solo-taming one of these after my group broke up for underbog. The entire area up to the hydra boss was cleared, so i only had to walk along the fish-filled water to get to them. the problem is this: they are in groups of 3 and the are linked together. What I mean by this is that when you get the attention of one in any way, the other two also come on you, and since using Scare Beast to crowd control another one is out of the question, solo-taming one at level 64 is impossible. Trust me, I tried it about five times. Get a group if you want one (as much as I hate to say this).

Anyone else with issues of stealth being broken just by being near them? I know I'm not tapping on that hotkey everytime they come near..

When tamed, this is one of the few Nether Rays without the dreaded Caster Stats, ie sky-high intellect and spirit, with low stamina/strength. Someahat tricky to get, as they love to fear and come in packs, but a decent group should have no trouble.
