If you are doing the DM Tribute Run, you will need to skip over Slip'kik's encounter. Before heading out to DM, make sure you have a thorium widget (https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=15994) and a frost oil (https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=3829). When you approach Slip'kik (who will be pacing back and forth in front of a group of mobs), be sure to watch for the Eye that patrols. You can either kill the mobs across the way (pulling them far back, to avoid aggroing Slip'kik) or simply have a rogue or someone with a good sense of timing repair the broken trap with the Thorium Widget/Frost Oil. Once set, sit back and watch Slip'kik blunder into the trap and enjoy. Doing this will add Slip'kik's share of the loot in the Tribute Chest at the end. Don't forget to visit him on your way out (after being crowned "King" and receiving the "King" buff) -- he gives a very nice +3% spell crit buff that lasts 2 hours!

Prior to the DM upgrade (1.7?) he (as well as most bosses in DM north) was easy for a mage or any strong ranged class to solo. With the extra dogs in this pit area now it's a little more troublesome and time consuming so I usually bring along a friend. The basic idea is to take out the patrol that walks down the ramp as well as the dog patrol in the pit. Sometimes you may only be able to burst dps one mob to death before having to run out of the instance. Other times with practice you may be able to take out an entire pat solo. After you clear these guys out you are ready to start on the guard.

After the pull you must immediately run back towards the exit. Once on the ramp up you have to jump onto the side railing then jump off the side onto a little ledge against the wall at the bottom of the pit. Once here Guard Slip'kik will start a long path in the opposite direction to try to get on the ledge to reach you. After about 15 seconds you will see him approaching on the ledge. When he comes within range, jump off onto the ground. He will immediately start his path back so that's your cue to start the dps. After a few seconds he will be out of range and you'll need to head for the ramp again. Rinse and repeat. If you spend too much time on the railing he will go into evade and gain some health back, so you need to be quick about getting on the ledge again. It will take some practice to get down, but before long you will be solo farming DM north like a pro.

To get by this guy without killing him you need a thorium widget and frost oil to fix the broken trap that will freeze him solid.
