The ore has a 20% drop rate, but it ONLY drops from Gravelsnout Diggers and Gravelsnout Surveyor! That means you can only find it far north or far south in the zone. The Gravelsnout Foragers, Gravelsnout Kobolds or Gravelsnout Vermins in the middle does NOT drop it. That is why the drop rate seems insanly low.

It's easy to try and find patterns when you can't seem to get a drop like this, but I'm pretty sure the mining animation has nothing to do with the droprate.

just got this drop from 5th or so mob. killed the first 4 on sight, but i did wait with the 5th to do the mining animation, then it dropped, so it might be true.

I tried the trick of waiting until he had done the mining animation, and had started walking away, but still didnt get the ore. I think people only get the ore after mining at random.

I got my ore on the first kill from a lvl 29 Gravelsnout Surveyor at 62, 47. He is surrounded by 7 or so lvl 28-29 mobs but if you jump onto the ledge to the left you can get to him without aggro.

Not worth it, needs to be reviewed differently, maybe a 50% chance to drop off of them, they aren't rare if you know where to look (specific spots) but their drop rate is so low it's annoying. You wont even get it done in your time in 1K needles killing at least 5 everytime you're out of town.

You either get the drop, or not. Some people have to kill 100 of the guys, some get it on the first drop. Check the map given in the post above this one and farm in that area. There is no magical 'single' location that it drops, so it's really not necessary to give the exact coordinates of where it dropped for you. That does no good whatsoever.

I've had toons that got it on one of the first few kills and others that I just gave up on and went on to other quests.

I couldnt even find the guys...I walked around at the botttom and top for an hour and i killed about 32 guys none of them dropped it. I finally just gave up and went onto another quest. But like its been said it all is just random on the spawns and the drops. So if you dont get it first just give up is my advice. But it did give good xp just grinding mainly.

best place to do this is around 63, 49. there are two spawn points close to each other, and in between them are plenty of mobs to grind on while waitin for respawn. I got mine after abuot 15 mins there. It is by a wrecked hut.

when you find it, let it for a while to see where it's going, until it's starts to dig! then kill it and the quest item is yours

This is the gayest quest every my friend let me die ninjad my monster and got it on his first drop, i was stubborn and spent 3 hours on this quest. The guys can be found on the southern and northern most points of the map, Diggers and Surveyors only drop it. You dont have to do ^&*! but kill them, if your not lucky plan on spending atleast an hour.

This quest is ridiculous. I started when the quest orange now it's yellow, and I've almost done all the quest in the area I've killed every kobold I've seen. It's already a trip to go thousand needles and back to the barrens. I don't get this quest.

Wait until one of them are done mining then kill them and they will have the ore. If they are just wondering they won't have the item. they actually have to mine the ore before they have the item, sounds complicated but try it. It works.

I got mine in the Windbreak Canyon. Possible location needed for drop. A digger there, not sure if that is required.

If you are going to make the drop rate low then there should be a higher number of Diggers or Surveyors to kill. I have traveled the entire Thousand needles and have only seen 2 Diggers. it has been close to an hour and still nothing!

12 diggers and 4 foragers killed while actively looking for them over the course of a couple hours. Ore never dropped. Gave up. Don't go out of your way to do this. If you get lucky, great!
