This thing packs quite a bit of stam, and as a result, a lot of gearing-for-raid tanks will be second-guessing their Essence of Gossamer (https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=37220). However the lengthy cooldown puts it in a very questionable position. While the Essence only prevents 140 damage from each strike (which matters very little when being hit by a raid boss for 5000+ each swing, at least) it does so with an internal cooldown and repeatedly over the course of a fight.

This is just a healing stream totem in a can, and can only activate once every 10 minutes as opposed to once a minute (roughly) like Essence can, making it very lackluster. The debate is whether or not 59 stam is worth losing the effect of Essence of Gossamer.

Lets clarify

Enraged Regeneration - Yes. You mean.
The spell heals you for 30% of your maximum health and 40% when glyphed. Stamina increases your maximum health. It's why Warriors will often pop Last Stance and Enraged Regeneration together because you get an increased healing effect thanks to higher maximum health.

Obviously higher stam is going to boost the healing effect of enraged regen or frenzied regen, HOWEVER, that was not the question being posed;

In other words would the trinket use of 139hp/2s be affected by the glyphs for druids frenzied regen or warriors glyph for enraged regen.

Druids yes - while frenzied regen is up this trinket will receive a + 20% boost to heals because the glyph affects all healing received.

Warriors no - the glyph only adds 10% extra healing to enraged regen ability
so the 139hp/2s remains unaffected.

The main issue this addresses for gearing tanks is that of getting high health. Like it or not the single number most groups look at when choosing which person gets to be MT or OT for an encounter is their health. So a tank with two imba avoidance trinkets will be put as OT while another tank with the same gear and the two 170 stamina trinkets will be put MTing simply because the raid leader will look and say "this guy has 3400 more health, he must be better geared".

It isn't really a bad decision either. For most tanks that is going to be somewhere between 5 and 10% of their health. You need pretty good trinkets to get 5% increased overall survivability in all situations. Avoidance trinkets are only going to help you on melee encounters, for magic damage there isn't really much alternative to heavy stamina trinkets.

Since Im a Blood DK, I will only speak wrt to them.

This trinket is by far the best of the three i lvl200 tanking stamina trinkets. All Blood tank defensive abilities all scale with max HP. Not to mention high avoidance tanks get very little from armor procs. A 'use' ability becomes very useful on splash damage fights where you are taking periodic damage.

I had this equipped while I was tanking tonight and I noticed something weird. I did the "use" while fighting XT in uld10 and the brewmaiden actually appeared to be melee'ing the boss...

Was it my imagination? Or does she attack too? From the descriptions, I thought it was only the Bitter Balebrew Charm that summoned a "pet" that attacked. And yes, I do have the trinket that summons the maiden in white, just in case someone thinks I have them mixed up... :)

Ah but remember that the trinket effect lasts for 10 seconds. It's not just going to block one attack so it's effectiveness would essentially be determined by the attack speed of your opponent as it would reduce the damage of a higher quantity of attacks with higher attack speed. Of course it has a 45 second internal cooldown so you have to take that into consideration too.

The procs on The Black Heart and Essence of Gossamer both last 10 seconds and have 45 second cooldowns. The black heart's proc has a 25% chance to trigger on hit, the essence's proc chance is only 5%. The black heart will proc about twice as often as the essence of gossamer (once per minute, as opposed to once per two minutes) when you're tanking one mob (which is common in raids). However, with only one mob hitting you it's very likely that you'll only be hit once or twice during the 10 seconds of uptime. The procs are much more effective in 5 mans, but there you wouldn't need the stamina.

In raids, you're not getting much mitigation from either proc so you're wearing those trinkets almost entirely for the stamina. The brewfest trinkets are better because they give much more stamina (even if their usage is not as good as either proc). A trinket with 130 stamina and no proc would be better for raiding than the black heart or essence of gossamer.

It's always nice to see 46 comments, most of them being about this trinket's more than obvious useless healing buff. Good thing we have all those mathematicians with us that can calculate the total healing, heal per second, heal per 5 seconds and so on... only to find out that after all, this trinket is fun-to-have and useful only for stamina to undergeared tanks (i.e. those who just hit 80).

Here's something similar to the trinket's healing: almost all non-healing classes have one spell that HoT them, I believe. Take Fel Armor for instance, it has 2-3% of total health per 5 seconds. The buff is only made to fill you up while afk or while in a town.

And does it heal an entire 40-man raid? If so, pop it to begin a fight and the amount of threat would be phenomenal.

As a paladin tank, I quickly replaced my Essence of Gossamer with this trinket, using it together with The Black Heart. When being both above the def minimum, block capped, and above the melee hit cap, stacking stam is all there is. The healing effect on this trinket is only a small positive side effect.

I got this on my Hunter and find it relatively useful for soloing group content with a pet tank. The pet tenacity talent Blood of the Rhino and the Hunter talent Spirit Bond - plus two targets for the heal help
I've found it particularly useful killing the raptor boss, Bloodlord Mandokir, in Zul'Gurub, whose charge mechanic means I will occasionally take damage I want to heal when first aid is down.
The quest Second Chances also is useful since Archbishop Landgren will often put a dot on you making bandaging fail.

This trinket may sound "silly" dropping from a seasonal event and extra sillyness points for its maidens but it's clearly _the_best_ trinket for its ilevel (and beyond) for "general purpose" tanking, i.e. tanking of any calibre up to heroic modes, with special cases excluded (e.g. requirement for extreme block values for Anub'arak heroic 1-tank offtanking). The trinkets clearly beating it are the ones dropping from Faction Champions 25 normal and heroic (even if they share cooldown) and _perhaps_ the yogg and ignis trinkets (perhaps since especially yogg's has considerably lower HP).

So ye, bad luck if you didn't get them while you had the chance if you can't get your hands fast on at least yogg and ignis' trinkets.
