To extend on what Falcore said, this is a very good way to get Fused Wiring, but be prepared to wait the cooldown of two minutes every time used. To help speed up the process try getting some friends or guild mates to help you out, as one of my friends did. Going through 200 of these is not too much fun. :)

In my experience, the drop rate of fused wiring on the cheap dummies is not different from the drop rate of the expensive ones, so this is the best thing to make if you're looking for wiring.

After deployment these dummies makes some kind of taunt, quite strong one (considering level of dumies). I tryed using these on Jadefire mobs (50-54lvl range) while playing Hunter. My pet used twice Growl (r6) and I dropped the device. I was quite shocked, as mob instantly began to attack dummy. He stopped only when my pet used growl third time.

Edit: Now I allowed my pet to use Growl 5 times and still Dummy was able to get mob attention. They are VERY useful.

When one levels a Warrior, especially before such abilities as "Shield Wall", one problem always came to mind for me, "But mommy, what if I get a hundred adds?" This little sucker, at least for it's level, solves that question easily, and efficiently.

I had roughly 5 adds in Sludge Fen - Barrens, and you'd be surprised how wonderfully it worked. Normally, I probably would've had my Tauren face eating dirt by now, but look at me, alive, strong, and stuff like that. The power of the Taunt effect is amazing, and taunted a mob I almost had to 0 health. In addition, the HP (At least compared to lv15 DPS), was high, allowing me plenty of ample time to escape, and even finish the mob I was currently working with.

In addition, the posts above mention is getting Fused Wiring from them. However, take note that it's not the only thing they drop. I often get a good amount of Engineering mats back from them, usually enough to cover maybe 1/4 of another dummy. Every little bit counts.

I use them in RP fights a lot. You can put it somewhere, line up, and "Shoot" your person (shoot the target dummy), or you can put it somewhere out of the way and use it as something to get a melee stance. (Target it and hit auto-attack)

I know it seems kinda nerdy, but it adds a lot of realicism. (SP?)

Raw mats:
1x Linen Cloth
3x Copper Bar
1x Wool Cloth
1x Bronze Bar

EDIT: Put Wool twice.

EDIT 2: Well, it turns out you can't use it in RP fights. It's friendly, so you can't target it. :(

Anyone know what the cooldown time rate is on these?

I know this much, devices all use the same timer but not the same time RATE, which means all other devices are disabled until this thing has cooled off after having used one.

The 'infinite' cool down your talking about doesn't exist. It takes 3 minutes for the target dummy to time out, and two minutes for the 'corpse' to decay. The 'infinite' cool down your referring to is the 2 minutes wait before the corpse expires.

The life of a target dummy:
3 minutes, or until destroyed
2 minutes decay
1 minute cool down
Repeat

1 dummy, 6 minutes or less

I finally had the cool down bug. It was because I was unable to loot the target dummy and it remained on the ground, therefore not initiating the cool down. After about 30 minutes, the target dummy remains, and its loot-ables, disappeared and restarted the countdown. The quickest way to solve this is to do what was said and log out.

GM Petitioned.

Also, the loot table of these might have been altered. I went though 25 of these before I hit a fused wiring. Might just have been a bad streek though.

I have used the dummy several times as a rogue very successfully as per posts above. It lets me do elite quests alone - kill bogeys around the elite, plant dummy in front of elite and hack away at the elite whilst he is busy destroying the dummy.

Fused wiring has dropped 50% of the time (along with modulators, etc).

Can these be used by non engineers?

I used to average about 2-4 fused wiring per stack of the standard target dummies. As of patch 1.9, three stacks later and no fused wiring. Can anyone confirm whether this has been nerfed?

I didn't see anything in the patch notes saying these would no longer drop them, and it'd REALLY tweak me if they WERE nerfed, as these are cheap to make, and it saves me from having to spend 5-10g in the AH or farm Gnomer for them.

Just throw it out while standing around in the city and wait for it to self-destruct. On average, I get 3 fused wiring from each 5 dummies I throw out this way. I suspect that if the dummy is destroyed in combat it is much less likely to drop the better components.

What you are refering to is a grounding totem, not stoneclaw, and it's completely different from a target dummy. Using abilities such as taunt, fade, stoneclaw or target dummies in PVP will only make people laugh at you.

i think the fused wiring is actualy a rare drop... i used my first target dummy and looted fused wiring and it didint drop from the next 10 i used i got the next rank dummy so i never used it more than 10 times but i use the sheep alot XD they work great on a group of horde surrounding the banner for AB

Made 11 of these and zero fused of course. This is such an annoying crap, because there is a recipe for fused wiring and it requires 275 skill. Not only that of course, it also requires some very high skill components from other crafters. Didn't know this was such a bottleneck and I am not going to waste my time with this crap anymore, so no goblin jumper cables for me I guess.

These things are amazing, you probably earn more from harvesting from them than the mats needed to make them.

Ive made a lot so far and most of the time they yield mats in excess of the cost.
I only make them for the fused wiring, which seems to drop about 25% of the time, other drops are Copper Modulators, Bronze Bars Copper Bolts and linen cloth.

On my server the fused wiring goes for 25G a stack of 5
Each dummy costs about 1G 40S to make, so they can be a real money spinner.

Does this thing actually work? When I've tried dropping one (and running) I don't usually have the chance to realy watch what happens, but it certainly doesn't seem like mobs (even recent adds that I haven't hit yet, and shouldn't have any threat vs. me) stop to target it... Same thing with the Stoneclaw Totem... =[

Any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong?

This thing's actually saved me in PVP, believe it or not. It doesn't MAKE the other person attack it, but who wouldn't attack this thing? It looks soooo freaking funny.

I've played a little with this thing. It seems like if you start healing yourself or pounding on one of the mobs, everyone comes back to you. So, it's not much of a combat tool. It seems to be a tool for bailing out if you are overwhelmed. Hard to remember these suckers when it's looking grim for you and your party!

They work pretty well when you use em at the right level. The best part of these though has nothing to do with the effect, it's that they sometimes drop random engineering items. I actually got fused wiring off one of my own target dummies, nice little profit considering the mats to make em.

These seem to currently be unlootable by the person who summons them. It may be a Classic bug as a GM was not sure when asked and linked me to an existing bug report post on the forums.

So from my experience, this is how target dummies work. As soon as the dummy is spawned, it will use an AoE taunt affecting all nearby enemies (within around 10 yards).

This effect functions like mocking blow of a warrior, so enemies will attack the dummy regardless of previous threat, but it does NOT overwrite previous threat values. It lasts for around 5 seconds. After this effect runs off, the target dummy will cast an AoE growl (similar to a hunter pet) effect, that causes threat. However, this is NOT the same effect as the initial taunt. It will NOT force mobs to continue attacking the target dummy if the threat caused by the growl effect does not exceed previous threat values.

This means that previous threat tables are in effect as soon as the initial AoE taunt runs out. If you have caused too much threat to a mob, that mob will continuing attacking you instead of the dummy. Only mobs you have caused little to no threat will continue attacking the dummy after the initial effect runs out.

You can use a target dummy in two ways:
-At the start of a pull, to add another body to soak some damage for the whole duration of the dummy (time or HP)
-As a short term distraction tool during a fight to buy yourself some time or get distance between you and a mob

Advanced and Masterwork Dummies have more HP and their AoE growls effect cause more threat
