Well for once our crits are actually better than warlocks, we're finally starting to come back into our place as damage dealers. Although I still think our empowered fireball should be reverted back to the 20% it used to be. Mages not specced into frost are the squishiest ranged class in the game, rogues are the squishiest melee class in the game bar cooldowns used; it's only fair we have the highest damage and not a 2 handed axe wielding plate wearing warrior that can swap to a shield and still be able to execute you for 10k.

Right now I'm running in a 5 man with around 40% crit in T6 gear. With this glyph my Fireball would be 45% crit. That means almost half of the time I'll be doing more damage with Fireball, as well as increasing Iginite chances. In addition, more crit = better mana conversation = more total damage out. It's not always about the DPS. 0 mana = 0 dps. I'm still up in the air on the glyph -- I will have to test it out -- but it sounds like a good choice.

What many people seem to forget to mention is that this glyph lowers the drain on the quite limited debuffslots.

With Death Knights incoming and many classes getting a lot of debuffslots on the target, this could potentially save a lot of trouble. Such as curses dropping off, saving some class from having to take a backseat from their optimal rotation because that would cause too many beduffs, or people being forced into less debuff intensive specs (Fury as opposed to Arms, Destro over Aff, etc).

That, along with the damage and synergy makes this glyph absolutely vital for Fire Mages.

This is actally quite good for frost mages who have the room for the glyph and have the talent, BrainFreeze--a mana free instant cast spell with an extra 5% chance to crit is nice, especially if you have ignite which many frost mages have to buff frostfire bolt.

Spam frostbolt or FFB and have a 15% chance for a free fireball.

Does this glyph even work? I was at a 40% crit chance on fireball according to recount after hundreds of fireballs cast so the number should be fairly accurate.

I got this glyph and I'm still at 40%. I didn't change any talents, equipment or anything at all.

I am going to switch from boring old arcane to fire spec, as I heard it was more fun, and that's what the game is about right? I don't know if I'm going to choose frostfire over fire, as going into frost only helps out blizzard dps and frostfire bolt, while the points into arcane give focus magic, more spirit (more crit rating from molten armor) and mana regen while casting.

EDIT: I tried out an 18/53/0 fire spec, and averaged about 2.2k dps. I got about 2.5k as arcane, but in order to maintain that dps, I had to burn mana like crazy. I would try changing spec and glyphs to frostfire spec to test that dps out, but I'm short on money. (The glyphs for fire dps costed more than I thought.)

Also, keep in mind I am not geared very well at all. I have one piece from a failed 25naxx run, a blue trinket, some badge gear, and gear from one lucky 10naxx. 2.5k would be an average for where I'm at right now. My hit rating could use some work too, I missed quite a few times on the heroic boss training dummy.

Considering the DoT effect of Fireball amounts to less than 1% of my total damage..
Instead of asking myself "Is the crit bonus worth the DoT sacrifice?"
I simply ask "Is this worth the glyph slot?"

Like Dirkin said, the extra crit chance is going to cause Hot Streak to proc more often.

Also if you feel the need to cast Polymorph, and your target has the Fireball DoT effect, all you're going to do is generate a whole lot of threat.. Unless of course you have Glyph of Polymorph which is going to take up a major glyph slot anyways.

If you use fireball heavily This is going to give you a solid DPS increase.

If you don't use fireball often, this glyph would be a total waste of the slot.
