I've been doing these dailies on my Lv70 shaman alt, so been getting everything so far off mobs in the first zones, this item is also dropped by the murlocks that are undead neer the Servitor Shades (https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/npc=24485) just above the western keep in Borean Tundra, specifically I got mine off of an Unstable Mur'ghoul

It works great to just fly out of Dalaran at 80 north into Icecrown and Scourgeholme and get it from there. I got it off one of the Anub'arak lords after about 5 kills.

Had two of these drop for me today, but I could not loot the second. So, be sure to carry these mats with you! You can create the Shifting Sun Curio while looting the other one and keep it in your bank until the next time this daily comes up. No flight required!

These are easily gotten by flying to Ebon Hold and killing the Withered Trolls that wander right nearby.

They don't only drop from normal mobs all over Northrend, but they drop from Scourge mobs inside instances as well. I got mine by doing Utgarde Pinnacle which was the daily Heroic. Killed two birds with one stone.

The droprate is actualy above 50% - means 2-3 kills total to get it, and ofc it can drop only if you have the quest.

The best place to get those as a Protection Paladin is Malykriss: The Vile Hold in Icecrown Citadel(black square just below Ymirheim on the map).

The Curio does indeed drop off of every single Scourge in Northrend, but the reason I find Malykriss to be such a great place, is that you can easily pick up 10-25 mobs in a few seconds if you go to the runeforges.

The flight also takes less than 5 minutes in total(back and forth)

These are trully dropped by every scourge on norhtrend. A friend of mine got his one while on raid in naxx just from a trash mob after Gluth. So keep hunting everything that is undead since it must be scourge then.

It would appear that this item will also drop if you are on another jewelcrafting quest - I found it shortly after the item Damaged Necklace dropped for me and I accepted that quest.

2nd kill off of a Malefic Necromancer in Ice Crown location 69,68. I consider myself lucky since everyone is killing over 10 mobs to get this item. You never know, maybe Ice Crown is the higher drop rate since it's all undead.

https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/npc=30544 is where I get mine; easy to kill, close to Dalaran and an insane respawn time should you get unlucky.

It should be noted that unlike most non-raid quests, this one can, for some reason, be advanced while in a raid group, unless it has been changed in a recent patch. I'm terrible about doing my dailies, so imagine my confusion when I'm tanking Naxx one night and I loot one of these off the trash. I didn't realize I was on the quest, and even if I had, I didn't think you could do non-raid quests in a raid group.

Quest seems to be bugged sometimes. Tried for 2 hours and retook the quest several times. Killed at least 50 Forgotten Depths Underkings. Even tried different zones. I was in a Raid at first but tried afterwards as well.
I waited a day for a zone "reset".

The mobs in Scourgeholme do NOT drop this item if you are in the phasing section of the Argent Crusade quest line, I haven't yet unlocked the small Argent Camp that overlooks Scourgeholme and these mobs aren't listed as available to drop the item on the tooltip.

If you in a hurry and are high enough to take the 81 - 82 Elites - Pustulent Horrors etc around the Death Gate, Icecrown, these items now seem to drop first time from the elites. Saves time picking off 5 smallers ones...

The surest way I've found to do the jewelcrafting daily is to check the tooltip of the mob you are killing for the quest. If it says "Slay for X" then it's a sure bet. I keep hearing of people who are in that phased scourgeholme and they never bother to check the toolip and just slay and slay for hours. (Kind of like Bloated Monsterbellies and North Sea {opposed to Frozen Sea}).

Also, the abominations at the Dam near Dalaran drop them quickly.

The damaged necklace and scourge curio bug happened to me too today. after picking up a necklace i had the curio drop in a few kills and then disappear when i turned the necklace in.

Btw, the best mobs to farm this imo are the ones right beneath dalaran (Lost spirits). Always drops in 1-2 kills, 78 level mobs and passive (so you can just kill as many as you need).

For some reason, Withered Troll mobs, and only those mobs, have a chance to drop two at a time. This doesn't actually do anything, as you can only loot one of them, but it's a curious bug.
