For Paladin tanks remember this: you don't need intellect.

Much of the tier gear has intellect on it and you just don't need much if any of it. A few pieces to get you to 4.5-5K mana so that you can unload some threat at the front end is all you need. Judge wisdom and between that and 'sympathy mana' from healing you'll be just fine.

These shoulders have a smidge less armor and defense than T5, a lot more avoidance (pushing crushes off in the form of block rating), and no int or spell damage. You don't need the int and the loss of 22 spell damage isn't as important as the gains in stam and avoidance that you get.

For AoE trash tanking the T5 shoulders might be more useful but the reality is that these are probably the best shoulders you can get before T6.

I just got these on my paladin the other day. A good upgrade compared to the Kara Mantle of Abrahims and even the t4 shoulders in terms of tanking. And even with the lack of spell damage, I find these better for AoE tanking thank the t5 shoulders as well.

For aoe tanking, shield block rating and value are important, because that's going to be your biggest asset in avoiding and minimizing damage. When a mob is hitting you for 800 damage, and you absorb 300-500 of it with a block, you're cutting your damaging down significantly. And with the ability to stack spell damage other ways. Go with these rather than the t4 shoulders. Unless you need them to complete the set bonus.

And as said, you get these from downing the first boss on the timed event.

I am a prot pally and I think these rock. The biggest challenge for any prot pally is getting the Stam and mitigation of our warrior counter parts. Get a good high spell damage weapon and a few good class set pieces (for the Int) and other than that load up on Mitigation and Stamina. I only try to stay around 6-6.5k mana other than that I know I will sacrifice to many *good* tanking stats. This of course is just my humble opinion and look forward to any feed back. My guild has just recently cleared Kara and we are working on our second boss in ZA.

u guys notice most za gives sheild block , and some bosses cant crush, strange at least.

These are won from the timed event in ZA.

You have 20 mins to kill all 4 bosses. Each time you kill a boss within the 20 mins, you get a loot chest.

The loot chests each hold different items. The items are not determined by which boss you just killed, but by how many chests you've opened previously.

Luckily, these shoulders are in the first chest that drops! Woot. So, just kill any of the four bosses within the timer.

These shoulders are awesome for a pally tank. Any pally tank that hasn't figured out the benefits of stacking block value will eventually.

For what a Paladin is often doing end game these shoulders are actually pretty good. That is to say AoE tanking. Block value may not do much against a boss hitting you for 5k, but against a lot of smaller hits block value really shines. Although the T4 Tankadin shoulders are arguably better as they have similar stats and the added benefit of spell damage.
