I just got this mount for my Dwarf Death Knight and I must say that it's a lot, louder than I expected. It makes noise when it runs and idles. It's definitely a "lively" machine. After a few minutes I got completely tired of the noise and decided to silence it.

If you hate the way your robot chicken sounds, make a new file (type doesn't matter) and call it MechaStriderLoop.wav

In your Wow Data folder make these folders

Sound
Creature
MechaStrider
Place the MechaStriderLoop.wav file in the MechaStrider folder. Viola no annoying noise.

The path looks like this

World of Warcraft -> Data -> Sound -> Creature -> MechaStrider -> MechaStriderLoop.wav

This is in no way bannable since you are not changing any files.

Some hope for those who love Mechanostriders but aren't Dwarves or Gnomes (like me!): The 3.0.8 Patch Notes at MMO Champion state that racial mount restrictions are no more! :D

o wow - ya now with 3.0.8 live : its awsome to ride these with my human rogue. The coolest thing about this one SI in fact cheap. While it seems WSG marks are harder to get (i pre-make these so we TRY) alliance side can take awile.

But to those who are tryin for this is always an easy one to get (along with the other 5 PvP mounts)

In the new patch of 3.0.8, as some have stated, anyone can ride this.

And the best part? Draenei and Night Elves look awesome - this machine doesn't scale to your size, so your legs can be nearly touching the ground!

As of Faction Change, you can now do a Faction Change from Alliance to Horde and still keep this mount. I just observed an Undead Warlock in Durotar with this mount.

something i feel is funny about this mount is that it feels faster than my other 100% mounts but it could be bcuz of its small size and therefore woves more to have the same speed

Uhhhhh....farm stone shards? takes a bit longer but youre guaranteed shards when WG is obtained, where as pvp dailies might not be obtained through losses (typical of horde on bronzebeard)

Believe it or not, Military mounts are useable at level 40, and they are epic. To stack on to the awesomeness, they cost the same as a regular mount.

only downside is the you have to have the PvP rank of commander.

Level 40 can't use this mount because there are minimal levels required for pvp ranks. You need to be atlease level 53 to be rank 11, the rank required to use this mount. Even then it's nearly impossable to get this due to the less honor you gain from not being in the 60s bracket.

Heh... I love how people can be so stupid and post a comment titled "you're wrong" and then totally flunk when posting. This mount requires COMMANDER to ride, which due to PvP level caps, means you must be at least 53(?). Also requirs Mechanostrider training, which means you need to be exalted with Gnomeregan if you aren't a Gnome. Simple.

There's no (good) benefit for the PvP mounts anymore. Sure the Black Battlestrider is the most badass looking mount in the game, but it now requires epic riding skills. Dreams have been crushed.

even though this was pre-whatever the patch that changed mount was... you still had to be in 50+ range to get it because you were not able to get above the knight ranks before level 50, so this really doesnt apply for a level 40 toon. also the grind for rank 11 was usually 1-3 months depending on how good you were. but since they changed the pvp system, this no longer is useable under 60. and now requires 150 riding, which requires level 60, so no more epic mounts for ppl lower than 60, unless its the barons mount, or the wintersaber.

Hi all! Indeed this mount is cool though not for my taste as I know no other mount but my tigers yet for anyone whos a gnome or dwarf, this rocks!
A lot of people are confused by the new patches etc, Im just going to help clear it up if i can

1) Since TBC you can now trade in x30 WSG, AB and AB marks of honour (achieved by entering a bg, you get 1 for a loss, 3 for a win) to the pvp vendor in SW hall of champions and get this mount

2) If you buy a pvp mount you DO NOT need reputation with the opposite factions! for example. my character is a night elf, he has reverred with IF, which is one rank below exhaulted (the required rep to buy a dwarf mount as a non dwarf character) and I bought a black war ram from the pvp vendor, taught my character TIGER RIDING, or riding skill 150 at lv 60 and was able to gallop around on my ram without worrying about the reputation problems with IF

3) Im not sure about this but I personally can only purchase horses, tigers and rams, can night elves ride mechanostriders or elekk mounts?

AS OF: JUNE 24, 2007...xD decided to clear things up now... THIS WORKS FOR ANY PvP reward mount!

OK SO:
1) To get this mount, have:
-30 Warsong Gulch Mark of Honor
-30 Arathi Basin Mark of Honor
-30 Alterac Valley Mark of Honor
2)Go to Champions' Hall in Old Town, located in Stormwind. There will be a white portal, go through it. (This is the Alliance version of the guide, same goes for Horde though, but for Horde, go to Orgimmar and it's located in the Valley of Honor, same white portal. It's called the Hall of Legends.)

3) For Alliance, there will be a person who has the title of <Mount Vendor>. This is Lieutenant Karter. (STARGATE LOL xD) For Horde, there will be a person who has the title of <Mount Quartermaster>. This is Raider Bork.

4) Talk to the person who has the mounts; hopefully you did some research on which mount looks cooler for you xD...anyways, CAREFULLY pick and choose because the effect is irreversible!

5)So, hopefully you got the mount you wanted.

6)THIS MOUNT IS NOT FREE! Well it is, but the training sure isn't! SO:

7)YOU. MUST. HAVE. JOURNEYMAN. RIDING. SKILL. OR. HIGHER!.

8) NOT HONORED JOURNEYMAN RIDING SKILL: 600 gold.
9) HONORED JOURNEYMAN RIDING SKILL: 540 gold.

If I remember right, the level requirement for AV is 50? That means it is impossible to get this at level 40 even at the right rank (you need 30 AV marks). Just thought people were being stupid. As explained above, ranks have lvl req as well. Still, it is obvious that you need to be AT LEAST 50 :P
