To enter Karazhan, you must first do a string of quests to get a working key, much like attunement from earlier times. The key can be gotten by following questline which starts with Archmage Alturus (48,76) of Violet Eye just outside Karazhan:

Arcane Disturbances (47,75)
Alturus sends you on a quest with a to take readings inside the Master's Cellar just nearby — go down each passage, do your work, and return to him.

Contact from Dalaran (47,75)
NOTE: To begin this quest you also need to complete Restless Activity (53,79 / 50,79), which can be solved parallel with Arcane Disturbances

Khadgar (15,54)
Entry Into Karazhan (54,44)
The to be found in the Shadow Labyrinth at Auchindoun.

The Second and Third Fragments Terrace of Light of Shattrath City. (54,44)
The to be found in The Steamvault at Coilfang Reservoir. (Arcane Container)
The and last key part to be found in Arcatraz at Tempest Keep. (Arcane Container)

The Master's Touch
Take from the previous quest to Medivh at The Black Morass in the Opening the Dark Portal wing of the Caverns of Time and he will turn it into .

Return to Khadgar
Take the key and show it to Khadgar in Shattrath City.

The Violet Eye
Khadgar directs you to return to Alturus with the key and seek help from the Violet Eye who will then start giving you quests in Karazhan.

Only two pieces of T4 drop in Gruul's Lair. Two more drop in Karazhan and the last one drops in Magtheridon's Lair.

No matter what, if you want to raid end-game in BC, you need to be attuned to Karazhan.

Just a quick note: Medivh does not actually give you the key when you finish the quest (The Master's Touch). Khadgar gives you the key after you return to Shattrath and talk to him. This a little confusing since Medivh says to show the key to Khadgar (implying that you already have it).

I found the SV frag to be quite easy but whatch out for the water pats when your about to jump into water if you aggro its not a pretty sight.

You have to be lvl 68 to do kara because druids can get flight form for that and do the instance alcatraz..

i know that u must do instances to recover the ke. but must u ahve a flying mount to eneter arcatraz could a lock get up there and summun u. im a noob dont know much about the game plz i need help gettin key.

You do need a flying mount to do any of the Tempest Keep instances (Bot, Mech and Arc). Warlocks summoning does not work in Netherstorm.

I accidentally destroyed the 2nd frag from Steamvaults, luckily its an easy one to get so I just ran back through and got it. You can solo it with about any class using invisibility pots, as long as you can kill the elite elemental alone...
