This might not be the best staff currently ingame (Atiesh is better), but how many Atieshes can your guild make compared to the drop rate of this item, assuming you can defeat Kel'thuzad (needed for both)?

40 splinters at a 25% drop rate (on average) with 13 bosses = 3.25 splinters per run = 12-13 runs needed for a single Atiesh.

This item has a drop rate of 30%, so you'll need 3-4 runs to get one.

People in a guild like that are not going to wait till everyone has his/her Atiesh, they need the upgrades, especially with TBC coming very soon. So, yes, Atiesh is better, but you'll see more people walking around with this one for it's just far more common.

Very good for Fire mage since crit gives back mana but you can't compare an epic drop off Kel'Thuzard with Atiesh. Ofcourse Atiesh is better but even on Kazzak-EU one of the top EU servers, we have only 3 Atieshes and a dozen Soulseekers.

Wraith Blade and Sapphiron's Left Eye would give you:

Left Eye: 26 damage, + 1% crit, + 1% hit, 12 sta, 8 int

Wraith Blade: 95 damage, + 1% crit, + 1% hit, 10 sta, 8 int

Total: 121 damage, 2% crit, 2% hit, 22 sta, 16 int

Compare that to Soul Seeker:

Total: 126 damage, 2% crit, -25 resist, 30 sta, 31 int

The Left Eye/Wraith Blade combo gives you:

5 less damage
+ 2% hit
-25 less resist
8 less stamina
15 less intelligence

Looks like the Wraith/Eye combo > this staff for pve damage. 2% to hit is huge, and it scales. I'd take that over -25 resist and 5 damage. The int and stamina aren't that big a deal.

Soulseeker has:

2 more intellect.
25 less resistance to target.

Atiesh has:

24 more spell damage and healing.
33 more spell damage and healing party aura 30yd.

I don't know how much the 25 less resistance to target is worth, but I'm kinda sure that atiesh is better, but as you'd have to kill around 214 bosses in naxx (average drop rate 18.66≈18.7%, 40 pieces*100/18.7%=213.9≈214 bosses) depending on how lucky you are and assuming you'd get all pieces that drop, then kill kel'thuzad and c'thun and get the pieces that they drop too and then summon and kill some �berleet 5 man boss in stratholme, I'd rather just kill kel'thuzad 4-5 times average and pick up soulseeker.

it's quite nice, but -25res is a lot of points wasted that could've been used to something useful. i suppose since it's the last pve boss dropping it that the reward is more for pvp :).

how is -resistance useless? That's increased damage, AND works toward +hit. -25 resistance is pretty beastly, especially if you have other pieces of gear with -10 and stuff. It all adds up and you can have your own personal Curse of Elements or Curse of Shadow. I'd say the -resistance is more PvE than PvP because bosses have such high resistances, and in PvP, if someone has 20 Shadow Resist, this staff will make it 0, since they made it so you can't have negative resistances.

Tell me if I'm wrong on any of this.

Works for both fire mages and warlocks. and -resistances work awesome in pve.. -resistances and +hit are different things by the way. Learn game mechanics before putting something in.

PS. not shadow priests im sorry.. crit rating is wasted on you guys.

If the mob/boss youre fighting doesnt have its resistances reduced to 0 (bosses seem to have between 100-150 resistances), then -1 resist is equivalent do +5spelldmg dps-wise. In other words, if you measure DPS output, -10 resistance will make youre dps just as high as +50 spelldamage (if you already have around +600spelldmg already that is. if you have less, then its effect is slightly smaller).

Have this on my 60 Shadow priest. I put +22 int on it, It is wicked. Probably going to put the BC +int on it now.

This item is potentially more useful than even Atiesh, the caster legendary. If +25 spell penetration effect is put to use fully, it will increase the damage dealt by AT LEAST 6.67%. 25 spell resistance is equal to a 6.25% chance to resist a spell, after all.(100/93.75 = 1.066..). The more resistance the enemy has, the more the increase is. If someone swaps to a shadow resistance set with 200 resistance before engaging you, he'll resist/lower the average damage received by 50%. In this case, going from 200 to 175 effective resistance is going from 50% to 56.25% damage taken - an effective damage increase of 12.5%! And damage isn't the only benefit, as it will also increase the likelihood of target being affected by important CC, assuming they have resistance to that school of magic. Fear for warlocks is a good example.

This huge bonus showcases the importance of spell resistances/spell penetration. Of course, in case of targets who have their magic resistance at 0, or low enough to be put to 0 without the soulseeker bonus, the bonus is useless.

In PvP combat, mages will often have enough spell penetration to zero out the enemy as it is, with at least 25 coming from frostfire set and 10 from a talent. The bonus in question then becomes less useful, though undoubtedly still great on a mage - and often overall better than Atiesh, the much desired LEGENDARY.

Warlocks and Shadow Priests are the real highlight, however. These guys don't have as much magic penetration available as mages, and often enough players utilize shadow resistance/shadow reflectors specifically to counter their damage. For these classes, this staff is undoubtedly better in PvP than Atiesh. It is almost a given an enemy will have enough magic resistance to make the Soulseeker effective. Even being buffed by a Druid's Mark of the Wild offers 27 resistance, or equipping a shadow reflector - 20.

Atiesh is still better in the sense of buffing players around you, but for your personal use, you'll often find out that the Soulseeker is better. This staff truly is a good reason to stop chasing after the orange carrot on a stick.
