Don't even bother try to get these before you do the pre-quest as Strobert says:
By strobert on 10/06/2007 (Patch 2.2.2)
Yes, there is a pre-req. Winterfall Activity

Beads for Salfa
I have not checked how true this is but I let it stay up for the history of these.

As of 3.0.2, Feathers/Beads now give 300 rep per 5.
The mobs remain the same - 10 for the lower (4 at L70), 20 for the bosses (8 at L70).

Friendly advice. Don't turn in your beads or feathers until you reach revered. I was getting 4 rep points per kill, until I reached revered. So save your beads and feathers. I'm getting 300 rep for 5 beads or feathers. It takes 21000 pts to get to exhalted from revered, that's 350 feathers/beads. 350 kills x 4 pts each is 1400. Which is 20 less beads/feathers that you need to collect! Hoping someone can learn from my mistake.

TURN-INS GIVE 300 REPUTATION NOW. YOU ONLY NEED 350 FEATHERS OR BEADS
to get through revered.
Ignore any guides below saying that you need more. Those guides are old.
Mobs only give reputation through Honored, so save your feathers/beads until you get 350 total, at which point you can start turning in the excess.

Tip: If you're farming for these pre-revered, don't turn any of these in until you're revered or have enough stocked up to take you all the way to exalted. Once you cross that line to revered, this grind becomes much more tedious. While you're below it you'll get almost as much rep from the kills as from the beads so don't pass up on that extra rep.

Has anyone noticed a drop in drop rate? I could get about 100 in an hour or so, then I went on vacation and I came back and in an hour I collected 20. I talked to a GM and he/she said he/she could not give me this information. Frustrating...

If you need a macro to deliver this quest over and over:
/script SelectGossipAvailableQuest(1)
/script CompleteQuest()
/script GetQuestReward()
"RightClick" your quest giver, then tap the Macro 3 times, and repeat.

The drop rate for these items is closer to 40% on the Winterfall Pathfinders, Totemics and Den Watchers. WoWHead shows them so low because of so many people either farming them without having killed the prequest, or farming and not looting. This is based on a sample of 50 NPCs killed (20 drops).

Drop rate for me, at Honored, is horrid. Just killed over 25 of the bastards and finally one fell. I have decided to hold them all until I hit 'Revered'. This drop rate crap is ridiculous.

For fellow humans like myself, the amount of beads you need from revered to exalted is 320...no more no less :P

High Chief Winterfall gives 40 Reputation, even past 11999/12000. So every 3 Kills are 2 beads less to farm.

I would highly recommend going back to the northern Deadwood camp to farm up feathers instead of these beads.
The drop rate is MUCH higher and more spawn rate for the village is much quicker.
Good luck!

I just reached Exalted, and I found that the village east of Everlook was better than the Deadwood camp. The camp has far, far fewer mobs, which means very long respawn waits if you're one- or two-shotting them. On top of that, it tends to be more heavily farmed, since it's in a higher-traffic area.
I found a farming pattern that worked well for me in the Winterfall village; hopefully someone else will find it useful. Start by immediately climbing the hill to the right as you approach the village entrance from the north. Kill the three stationary furbolgs just standing there, then follow the ridge and kill a moving one plus four more stationary ones. You'll see the yeti cave below to your right. Turn toward the village, and kill the two at the far left of the east-west path, then follow the path to the east until you kill High Chief Winterfall in his cave. Backtrack to the wooden portcullis separating the upper and lower halves of the village, then descend, kill the one on your left, then the one at the far west edge of the village. Now run to the other half and kill the three on the east side of the village, then go up into the hills to kill the one that paths behind the log-huts, then a second further up in the hills, which should be almost straight northeast of the first one. Now descend from the hills by heading northwest, putting you outside the village proper. Kill the two on the near side of the road into the village, one wandering mob, and the three on the far side of the road. Ascend the hill you're in front of, and you shouldn't have to wait more than 2 minutes for the mobs to start respawning, generally in the order that they were killed. There are some easy paths up the hill near the northernmost mob.
The first time through this loop takes a while for the respawns to warm up; once you've done it three or four times in a row, the downtime shrinks to little waits here and there, usually 10 or 15 seconds each and less than a minute total. That's 30 mobs, if I'm remembering right, with a drop rate of roughly 1 in 3, so 10 beads per loop (average). Unfortunately I never bothered to time exactly how long each loop is, but I was easily collecting 100 beads per hour, so that suggests 6 minutes average (including respawn waits). Track Humanoids helps, if you're a Hunter or Druid, but after a while you won't need it because you'll learn the spawn point of each mob.

Revered is definately worth trying to get, depending on your profession, but Exalted? Is that trinket really that good?
All my sources say no, even if the faction quests are a bit easier now. (depending on how you look at it)
So my advice is to find out what it is you are after, and set that goal.
I will say that yesterday, I was barely unfriendly with Timbermaw Hold - I ended my faction grind in a 20 person raid 8 hours later 25% into Honored.

So exactly what mobs drop these?
I have killed winterfall furblogs now for 500 rep and i've yet to see one, i've gotten that Ritual thingy but no beads.
Never mind, just finished the prequest (didnt know there was one) and got beads from my first kill.

Im sure theres something you must need to do first...
Try talking to the furbolg on the felwood side and do his quest once
And those drop rates from thott are way off cause its reporting how many of them were killed from b4 patch, I know no one killed over a million furbolgs yesterday

Make sure you have finished the quests first and have sufficient rep, then you will notice the drop rate much higher. I net about 1 per 3 kills and often get 3-4 in a row.

I have been farming these guys for a while now and have found it to be quite lucrative as well as getting your reputation up.
1. Your reputation should go up by 5-6 per kill of the Winterfall Furlborgs. You also get 55 rep points per 5 beads you turn into Saifa who sits at the Timbermaw tunnel on the Winterspring side. I average about one bead per 2-3 kills.
2. There is a lot of good loot to get from these mobs. I have received countless green drops and quite a few blues (ie Twig of the World Tree and several Beast and Portal cards), not to mention all the silver and runecloth. I have earned well over 200 gold with silver and selling drops. I also have started a new character just to store all the runecloth. I think I ave about 35 stacks in the bank. Also there is a lot of Icecap and Mountain Silersage around the camps with the occasional Black Lotus (5 thus far).
3. Currently my rep is at 80 percent Honored, but I have about 1000 beads waitint in the bank to use when I'm halfway thru Revered when you don't get rep for kills any longer.
So if u have the time and patience, it is very worthwhile to farm these guys.

Sorry, but I meant that once you get to revered, there is no more rep per kill...only when beads/headdresses are turned in.

Finally got my exalted reputation. If you do nothing but kill Furlborgs until you get to revered, it takes exactly 1910 Winterspring Spirit Beads (assuming you are starting at 1 point revered) to get to exalted. So, basically, you have to kill about 6000 furlborgs averaging one bead per 3 kills to get to exalted. It was fun, lucrative and tiresome all at the same time. Good luck with it.

Just so you know, the second Wintersaber rep quest is Winterfall Intrusion. This requires you to kill 5 Winterfall Shamans and then 5 Winterfall Ursas, run back to Frostsaber Rock, turn it in, then repeat doing so. If you plan on getting Timbermaw rep, might as well do this also. Then you have a shot at getting the Winterspring Frostsaber, which is an armorless, 100% increase epic Saber mount, with purple stripes. It's beautiful and well worth it. It's sort of an extra prize at the end of your hard work ^_^. I'm honored with Timbermaw and Revered with the Wintersaber Trainers!

Right, to summerise rep with timbermaw from the Winterfall furbolg:
As you leave timbermaw hold into winterspring, Salfa (a white furbolg) stands just outside the entrance.
They give you a quest to kill 8 den-watchers, 8 shaman and 8 ursas (they can be found east of Everlook in Winterfall village)
Once you complete this quest, and have talked to Salfa again, you can start collecting the beads.
With the rep improvements from a recent patch, each kill now awards 10 reputation and each set of 5 beads handed in is 150 reputation.
Therefore, if you are looking to get exalted with timbermaw, you now only need 700 beads (the drop rate is between 30 and 40%) rather than 2100 to jump from revered to exalted.
So on your way to revered, refrain from handing in beads unless you are not interested in getting to exalted.
Its worthwhile, as plenty of greens an sometimes even and epic drop along with runecloth and silver.
Hope this helps = )

Just an update, but it's not 10 rep per kill. It's only 2 rep for the shammies, ursas and whatnot, tho if you kill the High Chieftan, he gives 4 rep per kill.

Making exalted with Timbermaw takes 21,000 rep. at 50 points per 5 beads, that's 2,100 beads. At 4.70 drop rate, that's 44,680 kills. At 90 seconds per kill, that's 67,021 minutes of playtime, or 1,117 hours, or 46.5 play DAYS.
Makes solitaire look exciting :)

it took me 2 1/2 hours to get 50.. (granted with a 55 toon, which slows the progress) but still..
i cleared the whole base in the east twice without one single drop

Just wanted to add for after 2.3. I think they doubled rep per kill. Drop not nerfed, 42 beads off 113 or so kills comes to about 37% drop rate.
I'm a 55 Human Fire Mage, working the village at bottom mid of map. Did some recording of one hour...
10 Gold
42 Necklaces - Killed Totemics, Pathfinders, and the other one there
1250 Rep - earned 11 per kill as 55 in Unfriendly/Neutral - 10+1 for being human
49 Runecloth
35000 xp on normal
For any mages trying to do this, I would say it would take you four solid hours to get to Revered at least, maybe double for Exalted. I don't think frost would be viable unless you are geared. Actually wasn't horrible to do this. Just like normal grinding, though I can see how it would really suck if you weren't getting exp or rep for kills.
The runecloth is nice for getting rep elsewhere with cloth turn in quests. Decent xp and some random drops. No blues or epics in the two or so hours I was there. Lots of Super Mana/Health pots as well. Overall, other things suck worse by far.
Good luck!

It is best to get a full group and go for farm furbolgs. First - you gain +5 rep from each furbolg killed by group member, second - if the dead furbolg have a Winterfall Spirit Beads in loot, it may be tooled by EACH group member.
So, meka a group and good drops to you :)

I made the mistake of not grinding for Timbermaw rep when i turned 60.
Now at lvl 70 i'm want to get the Formula's for + Agi on the weapons since there is a good demand for these on my server.
Instead of getting 5 rep per kill( I'm neutral with those guys BTW), i only get 1 rep per kill, 2 if i'm lucky. The 'bosses' of each camp give me the full 5 rep.
If u guys think u gotta farm these for eternity to get that rep up, try it at lvl 70 lol. Luckily for me I only need to get to friendly, and I'm human so i get more per per turn in of those beads.

DO NOT turn these in as you get them. Save them for when you are revered. At revered you will no longer receive 5 rep for killing each one. You will have to kill 10s of thousands of these to get the feathers you need to get exalted.
If you save them until you are revered, your grind to exalted will be a lot easier.

You need just over 4000 of these if you are just handing them in for rep and nothing else to go from Revered to Exalted, the number will be reduced by 5 for every time you kill the High Chief of Winterfall.
During my grind from hated to revered I managed to get 830 spirit beads, do NOT hand them in till the end of honoured.

In BCC I'm getting 150exp per turn in (well, 165 but playing a human so 150 before bonus.) Don't be like me and farm dozens of thinking each turn in is only 50exp... I only needed to farm for twenty minutes instead of the two hours I did.
