The droprate of silk off the nearby dwarves is horrible. I suggest that you bring silk prior to getting this quest. If you decide to clear the camp over and over, don't forget about the second camp to the north along the road. Clear one camp then run back to the other and repeat the cycle for minimum downtime.

This quest is gotten from the Outhouse at 65,62, it looks like a wooden cubicle.

The camp of Dark Iron Geologists is at the Grimeslit Dig Site (60,63). I normally keep Silk in my bag so that's not my main worry.

Didn't have any silk so I just took the pass (start coord 69,53 in Searing Gorge) over to the Badlands and killed about 12 Shadowforge Tunnelers (coords 53,34 at Hammertoe Dig site. Fast drops on silk.

Even closer are the ogres just to the south of the entrance to Searing Gorge and they drop silk in large quantities.

15 Silk is not that much, most anyone should have it and you will always find it in the AH, I would recommend that you bring it with you, makes your life easier and saves time.

p.s. be careful not to aggro all of the dwarves at once because there fireballs do some pretty mean damage.

This quest may have been changed.

Upon completion of The Key to Freedom, this quest wasn't offered, neither was Ledger from Tanaris. Possibly changed in 3.0.8.

Requiring 15 pieces of silk indicates that not only does he have a really nasty case of the runs, his skin is quite delicate. I know nothing but silk touches my ass.

If you don't have any cloth on you you may want to fly to ironforge and pick it up real quick. I quested in this zone for about 2 hours. I musta picked up about 80 mageweave cloth and 9 silk and that was after clearing those elves in firewatch cave 3 times!

Apparently when I was doing this quest, after I had acquired the silk cloth, it counted for the quest and I did not have to have the silk cloth to actually COMPLETE the quest.

Easy. Even on a Pvp server. I didn't get bothered once. Blackrock is on the other side of the map anyways.

They are found at the Grimesilt Dig Site, which is in the SE part of the zone. And silk rarely drop from these guys, best bet is to buy 15 at the AH.

The Geologists at the Grimesilt Dig Site are in three groups, 2 each in front of the tents and 2 more up a slight rise behind the tents. The 3 at each tent are linked and the geologists are casters, so you can't pull them. But you can pull the third mob at each tent - a Dark Iron Watchman.

First, kill all the roaming golems or they will surprise you with their aggro range. Then pull each of the Watchmen far enough away so you are out of range of the Geologists. Kill the Watchmen, then kill the casters.

You should be able to do the entire quest at the camp because all the mobs respawn quickly, including the golems. Not much silk drops (not 15 at any rate), so be prepared to get that elsewhere. Pretty decent XP at level 47 (Shadow Priest).

the outhouse is on the hill above the grimesilt digsite. approach the digsite from the tanner camp and you will see a hill leading up behind the digsite. follow that hill to find the outhouse. It is guarded by a single tempered war golem (lvl 45-47.) Also, note that it doesn't show up on the minimap when you are close, and it doesn't have the floating question mark, so you have to keep your eyes open for it.

I picked up this quest after releasing the guy who was in the outhouse. It let me get the quest , so I figure it will let me turn it in....I don't think so! I complete it and go back to the outhouse to turn it it and it won't let me : ( so, just in FYI, don't free the guy before you do this quest. Or it will be all for naught.

just kill the watchers around the camp, ull get silk cloth.. this quest is good for a hunter.:P

i did it by killing the geos and watchmen around the area. they have a low drop rate (they usually drop mageweave) but the geos die in about 5 seconds so their good for farming

***Run the north side of map east from Kargath until you get to Angor Fortress (TLOC 44,30).

I had a stack and a half of silk after killing the mobs around and just inside the entrance.

Best of all took less then 15min including travel time =)** from Akomie above.

Still a good tip!

As far as not being able to complete this quest after you let him out of the outhouse, I just did it.. Quick 4500 XP for letting him out, then the silk quest right after.. The "key" quest is repeatable as well.

I kill dark iron geolists under 6 mins but collectig silk cloth wasted my time the lowest drop rate every.

Searing Gorge is really a mageweave zone. Head back west to the Badlands, the entrance is really close by. Then go a bit north and kill the Ogres there. They drop primarily silk and coin.

You can do both Key to Freedom and Locked In although logically you should be able to do only one.

This quest is a bit of a pain only because the predominant cloth drop in the zone is Mageweave, with silk a very distant secondary cloth drop. It's far easier to bring the silk with you or to go buy it from the AH before attempting this quest than it is to try to farm it up in this zone. Even though Mageweave is a higher level of cloth, this quest would be made much more convenient if it were altered to 15 pieces of Mageweave. As I type this I am in the zone and have exactly 15 pieces of Mageweave on me (and zero silk cloth) simply from killing Lookouts and Smiths for the quest STOLEN. I'd far rather hand in those Mageweave than travel to another zone to farm or to the AH to buy the silk cloth.

I had a heck of a time getting silk to drop. Any cloth that dropped in SG was always Mageweave. So I took the path over to The Badlands where the mobs are a bit lower. Had a tiny amount of success off the ogres in Dustbelch Grotto (4 in about 40 kills). Tried the dwarves at Hammertoe's Digsite and the small group that wanders between there and Angor Fortress. Bingo! Killed the wandering group twice (6 mobs total) and 8 of the others in the digsite and got rest.

Of course, if you know you need them going in you would just bring them with me. I considered gating and buying them in the AH but sometimes I am stubborn :)

Bugged for me on Classic. Got 15 silk cloths which I bought from ah. Tried abandon and take again, relog, nothing works =/

Too few geologists, and they spawn in groups so it's impossible to kill them. No thanks.

Quickest place to get silk cloth quickly since you probably aren't still carrying it when you get to Searing Gorge is to ride back through Badlands to Angor Fortress and kill some high 30s dwarves. The droprate is decent enough.

I've found the cluster closest to the outhouse has a few evade bugs.
Pay careful attention in case mobs suddenly jump back to full health.

Ya gotta help me out. I was runnin' from them Dark Iron dwarves, and I hid in here to get out of sight. Damn geologists and their magic ways! They musta seen me hide, cause next thing I knew, they locked the door and stuck me in here.
