This is the starting quest in order to forge Shadowmourne. It's given by Darion Mograine, and there's already 3 quests that i think are related : this quest gets you Shadow's Edge. You then 'll have to expose that axe to three infusions, getting yourself then ( i suppose ) a stronger version of Shadow's Edge. The final step needs you to take a shard from Frostmourne : the skull on Frostmourne's hilt can be seen on the current model of Shadowmourne. I think that's the way it's going to happen.

This is a part of the questchain to obtain Shadowmourne, a legendary twohanded axe. It will also be interesting to see how the Primordinal Saronite will be handled in guilds, as it will be needed both for this chain and for a lot of nice crafted epics.

what is the criteria for darion to give this quest? getting exalted with the ebon knights/ashen verdict? having some sort of quest-starter item dropped in ICC? or he just like that just gives the quest to any 2hand axe-wielder class out there?

First of all it was said this axe will be for plate dps, so why anyone else but plate wearers would do this quest is beyond me. Really.

Actually I can imagine most guilds that will be getting the most of these hording them driving the cost up even more. So unless you can buy these with emblems right off the bat expect supply to be extremely limited and demand to be HUGE.

Any-dang-way...

Basically, when you go in the Frostmourne Cave to grab Light's Vengeance as part of the Shadowmourne chain, the Lich King shows up and taunts you that you really thought it would be that easy, fills the cave (seriously, theres TONNES of them packed in) with weak zombies (not CoS weak, but weaker than basic NR mobs) and a shielded, elite Vrykul in the middle who will resummon any dead zombies. Light's Vengeance will be thrown to the side, and it takes 8 seconds to loot it - WITHOUT BEING HIT. Use whatever tricks you can - bubble, AotD, whatever, to keep the zombies away from you while you loot it. After this, it flys up in a big bubble of light and flys around the room, spitting balls of light to smash the zombies, before finally nuking the Vrykul and dropping down. Now loot it and claim your prize!...

Or not. 10 seconds ago was merely a setback, and the Vrykul comes back as an elite skeleton! Hes not really all that tough to be honest, if you're in the position to get this weapon you can kill him - just don't pick up that hammer with 100hp left or you'll scream! After this, there is FINALLY nothing left and you can claim your prize :D

Just in case nobody made the math, if you wish to obtain all the primordial saronites by buying them with emblems of frost, you'll need the staggering amount of 575 (25 x 23) emblems.

Now, to calculate the rate of emblems:

Echoes of Tortured Souls + Deliverance form the Pit + Wrath of the Lich King = 6 emblems

One week of raiding, taking in acount that the only the first 4 bosses are avainable for the first 4 weeks and they each give two emblems:

ICC - 8 emblems 10-man and 8 emblems 25-man
Weekly raid quest - 5 emblems
7 daily random heroic dungeons - 14 emblems
total - 35 emblems

4x35=140 + 6 = 146 so far.

Now, including the next month in which the "Plague Quarter" will be introduced in the next 2 weeks, then the other 2 wings for a total of 6 weeks, and assuming there are 8 bosses in all the wings. Also assuming the drop of 2 emblems per boss.

ICC - 14 / 18 / 24 (double if you can do 10 and 25 man)
Rest is the same

4x14+4x18+24x4+19x6=338 emblems

Adding the 146 emblems from last 4 weeks = 484 emblems

So far, until the 12th week you have 484 emblems. That leaves 91 emblems to go.

Making calculations, if you do ICC complete on 10 and 25 man and do the weekly and daily random heroic, you'll get 67 emblems per week

So you'll need 2 extra weeks to get the remaining badges.

Making a full total of 12 weeks, or 3 months. 3 months of mindless grinding and perfect boss kills. Luckly, like Santee and darkelfpoet have stated, there are more ways to get the 25 primordial saronite that you need.

Edit: Thanks, DrOats, for the help on calculating. Also, done more calculatons and edits since each boss in ICC drops 2 emblems, not 1 as i assumed before. Also, if there's ay mistake in my calculations, warn me please.

You need friendly with Ashen Verdict, then it is from Mograine right inside the start of ICC raid.

I think its kind of rediculous that these cant be made from, oh idk, blacksmiths? I mean you could make it so they have a cooldown equivalent of Titansteel or something of that nature....

I know I've posted this somewhere else, but I forget where, so I'll ask again..

I'd like for someone to share basic info for those of us who don't know.

Specifically:

Where do you get the starting quest for this chain. ICC is pretty broad spectrum, as there are 4 or 5 instances.

Which ways if any, do you all find are the most efficient means to raise ones rep?

Started this quest yesterday. I am a fury warrior and i had no problems looting obtaining Light's Vengeance, without any help.

The boss keeps summoning new ghouls as you kill them, so you have swiftly kill a few and use the object fast before you get hit by new ghouls. The ghouls themselves hit for almost nothing (70 - 100 damage) and they die in 1 or 2 hits.

The hammer will then fly around and nuke the ghouls before settling down. When you try to loot it again, the boss digs himself up from the ground and you kill it. Done!

Easy soloable for a (fury) warrior, so paladins and death knights will only have to blink at stuff in order to kill it (shameless QQ!)

Picked up the quest in the 10 man as soon as i hit friendly (will take forever to get, but my pally has ret as an offspec...just want shadows' edge, not legendary). Soloed the first part to get the hammer as holy....no problems whatsoever.

I got the quest yesterday....went to the cave.....got the hammer! Solo no problem for my DK, alot of stuns off the ghouls but was able to fight thru them and then kill the boss.....make sure u regen health after the ghoul fight, so your at 100% before you reach for the hammer! The boss can kill you fast if you are not ready.

having alot of alts is a blessing, at a rate of 1 primordial per char per about 9 days (9x2+5=23) if i do the daily HC every day and the weekly raid every week I can get the needed 25 ps in (25x9/3=) 75 days, and this is without counting the times i'll be able to raid ICC

does any know if only 1 Festergut's Acidic Blood and Rotface's Acidic Blood drop per the fight or does everyone that has the quest chain get the item?

It seems to me that the Lich King actually wants you to succeed in this task, as he summons such weak foes against you when you go to retrieve Light's Vengeance, though only so that when he turns you into an undead minion you'll be more useful.

i did this quest on my dk i went into the cavern and just sat there for 13 seconds and then when i came back everything was dead/gone and i just picked up the hammer left and i was like o..k!

Note: Accepting this quest with intents to get Shadow's Edge without help by the time the next bosses come out seems to cause a strange burning effect to your character's leggings, specifically the area toward the top of the thigh. I learned the hard way when i found myself reaching deep into my Penny Pouch to buy the last Primordial Saronite needed. 3 More days now and that thing is mine. =D

Curious, upon completion of this quest, does this award the individual any reputation with Ashen Verdict? I thought I remembered seeing it somewhere, but just asking if anyone has the definite answer.

The bloods looting protocols were changed after the first night of the 2nd wing's release. If master looter is set during the raid, the master looter gives out the bloods, they cannot just be looted by the person with the quest or mistakenly auto-looted by the wrong person.

The Acidic Bloods have a 100% drop rate as long as someone has the quest. However, there is only one blood per abomination per week. The master looter (should you have one) is able to designate who gets the blood. I got mine both on the same night. Good luck!

well can someone tell exacly wath reward is for this guest --is just ``27550 experience (or a 16 53 compensation at level 80)`` or you can really be able to make the frost sword of my pal arthas ....
cuz im confused a bit,some people say yea some no and i just wanna now if is worted to do all this work for it

This quest is only available to Death Knights, Warriors, and Paladins. You also have to be at a Friendly Status with the Ashen Verdict.

I love that after spending over 12 000 gold and over 200 emblems of frost across 3 characters, one of which i migrated from alliance to horde and from another server to my main server for €50 I got the incredible amount of 16 gold for turning this quest in <3

I'm grateful tho.

if your a dk!

as soon as your free from the Litch Kings grasp and out of stun agro the mob around the hammer and use your army of the dead to divert the threat then click on the hammer lotting it this will kill all the zombies. the hammer will then end up in the middle of the room when u try to loot it the boss will appear. quickly use anti magic shield and spam death strike for an easy kill. pop anti magic zone and gargoyle if your unholy, spam death strike you cant lose.

Iam only doing this chain quest because of the GOLD it gives

there are 9 quests each gives 31g
so 9 x 31 = 279g!
and if i vendor that sh*it weapon i get 50g
so...
279g + 50g = 329g! F*CK YEAH!

Just in case anyone was wondering like I was: I had all the items, except the 25 Primordial Saronite

If you have this quest, and have looted either (or both) Acidic Bloods and/or Light's Vengeance, and want to Faction Change your character while you have these items in your bag

* Knowing that faction changing will delete all quests from your quest log - these items Do Not get removed from your inventory upon faction changing.

You can just simply go back to ICC and pick this quest up and continue where you left off.
