When you see Arthas casting The Lich King's Fury, GET OUT. It WILL one-shot you and you WILL take durability damage.

The Lich King's Fury will kill you through any immunity spell as well such as Divine Shield or Ice Block.

He does not have a quest icon on top of his head, but stands with 3 other mobs around a fire to the right of the entrance.
Just walk up and talk with him to start the event.

I came across a paladin at the cathedral entrance also doing this quest. Neither of us were able to get Tirion to spawn even after abandoning and starting it over. Put in a ticket )=

The final quest of the best quest chain in game so far :) totally loved the Argent Crusade fighting into Icecrown, all the way to here.

I dont know why but it wont work for me. Tirion is on the ground already at the end of the Cathedral and the Lich King is kneeling with only 3.3 mil hp. Think its bugged. I quit and started over it and it still wouldn't work.

The zealot's the walk up the middle were when i got there, it seems to bug because they can't actually aggro but pulling other mobs to them make them try to aggro and get stuck cuz they can't.

how i fixed it was i pulled a zealot from the side and slowly fought it while walking beside the bugged guys when i got to the end of the hall and they started talking and i slapped on my hood and they wen't friendly. after this the event ran its course i did not get credit you must then start it over by talking to Tirion outside. you don't have to drop the quest

i don't know if this will work if its bugged with Tirion on the ground.

I tried to get a screenshot of the Lich King casting his fury. Sadly I didn't get into my favorable position in time. About 2 seconds late.
It was nice too. I had his head kinda inbetween his hands.

I think the problem with this quest is if you arrive and someone has just started it (e.g. Tirion is not outside and it has the ebon knights fighting in the Cathedral).

When I arrived my quest completed but I couldn't get the robes off any cultists which were rare as it was (given this is a quest item as well there should be plenty of them and item should drop from 1st kill - I killed 6 with no drops). I abandoned, flew back to Tirion and then got the q again, came back, there were acolytes spawning quickly and got the head item first drop.

I guess if you see completed in quest log without the drop, abandon and re-accept and try and avoid going into the cathedral at all, especially if the fight is going on.

I got the mask and the fight did start and got as far as Tirion doing his chat with Arthas but then the thing just stopped, all the acolytes with fists up going "huh huh" but no actual fight sequence so I abandoned it again and went back in and they are still there doing it, guess it must reset after a while.

I left and then went to wintersgrasp, came back about 20 mins later and they are still stood the same, acolytes dead and Lich King still stood around while Tirion is on the floor, going to log out and see how it is tomorrow.

Logged in today and looked like event had just finished, ran in, Lich King did his attack and 1 shot me, then vanished so ressed, Tirian has respawned so I was able to then start it, this time it did run through properly and can confirm voidwalker sacrifice does protect you from the attack, then used portal as it completed.

I literally did this quest a minute ago. Just fly to the steps, kill, get a hood ,put it on walk over to High Lord, then follow them in. Now, this is really a watch and enjoy quest..so, I just stood half way down the isle where I could still see the quest test and enjoy the show. Nothing attacks you, even when I waved at the LK walking by me. There's no reason to be in the "action" to get yourself killed.

Epic quest line and funny ending. Did'nt stay around to see the "fury" but a enemy rogue that attacked me before I used the portal did'nt make it after me.

I actually ran the event twice. The first time, the event ran as intended. I didn't take the portal but did see the hilarious combat log message. The second time however, after all the NPC's had ported, the Lich King actually became attackable! Suffice to say it made me jump a little. But, don't get too excited, he's immune to all damage at that point. I did take the portal this time though, simply because i didn't wanna see what'd happen when he could be attacked ;)

While casting the Lich King's fury, Arthas is completely attackable. This means that if you have enough people who can burst 3.5 mil damage in 7 seconds you can kill Arthas. The only problem though, is you have to burst 3.5 mil damage in 7 seconds.

I am trying to put the full quest string together that leads ultimately to the quest and need some help. Note that these are the horde quests, although most of it will be the same for alliance.

Working backward, the string includes the quest chains

I know that I have to start with the initial quests in Icecrown at the Argent Vanguard beginning with

From there I've followewd the quest threads as they are offered, doing

That opened the chain

And then

That opened another five quests at the Ebon Watcher camp outside the Argent Vanguard.

I researched all five of these quests and none of them seem to link into the top line of quests that lead to .

I'll start grinding the new set of five quests, but can anyone tell me what the quest is that connects all these early quests to ?

If you stayed to get ganked by Arthas instead of taking the escape portal, the turn-in location is to Tirion Fordring back at Crusader's Pinnacle.

Prot Warriors can Spell Reflect this. It doesn't one shot Arthas, but they can survive the Lich King's Fury unmolested. Best Part is in the combat log it still says it kills them instantly.

Something interesting about this quest from a character development perspective.

When you first arrive at Argent Vanguard outside The Breach, Tirion Fordring and the Ebon Watcher (actually Darion Mograine) are overseeing the assault from the top of the battlements. If you stick around long enough, you hear the following conversation between them, in which Mograine advocates Tirion abandon the Light to defeat Arthas:

Highlord Tirion Fordring says: The Lich King reacted swiftly to the breach. Faster than I anticipated.
The Ebon Watcher says: You are dealing with a being that holds within it the consciousness of the most cunning, intelligent, and ruthless individuals to ever live.
The Ebon Watcher says: The Lich King is unlike any foe that you have ever faced, Highlord. Though you bested him upon the holy ground of Light's Hope Chapel, you tread now upon his domain.
The Ebon Watcher says: You cannot win. Not like this...
Highord Tirion Fordring says: What would you have me do, Darion?
The Ebon Watcher says: Nothing. There is nothing that you can do while the Light binds you. It controls you wholly, shackling you to the ground with its virtues.
Highlord Tirion Fordring says: Choose your words wisely, death knight. You stand amidst the company of the devoted.
The Ebon Watcher shakes his head.
The Ebon Watcher says: Look upon the field, Highlord. The Lich King has halted your advance completely and won the upper hand!

Highlord Tirion Fordring says: We will do this with honor, Darion. We will not sink to the levels of the Scourge to be victorious. To do so would make us no better than the monster that we fight to destroy!
The Ebon Watcher says: Then you have lost, Highlord.

Later in Tirion's Gambit, during the faceoff b/t Tirion and Arthas, there is a related conversation:

Fordring leads the party to one of the pews as they wait for the Chosen Zealots to walk in and approach High Invoker Basaleph, laying the heart before him. As the zealots leave...
Chosen Zealot says: We lost many to the faceless ones, my lord. But we succeeded in retrieving the heart from Naz'anak.
Highlord Tirion Fordring says: Something's wrong... I sense a dark presence.
Highlord Tirion Fordring says: The Lich King is here. May the Light guide our blades.
The Lich King says: Uninvited guests! Did you think you'd go unnoticed inside my dominion?
The Lich King says: I must confess... you were not altogether unexpected. I hope you find your final resting place... to your liking.
Highlord Tirion Fordring says: You sound a little too confident. Especially considering the way our last encounter ended.
The Lich King says: Last time we met, you had the advantage of fighting on holy ground. You'll find that our situation has been... reversed.
Highlord Tirion Fordring says: That might be, but I don't need to stand on holy ground to run that disembodied heart of yours through with the Ashbringer.
The Lich King says: I call your bluff. You're a paladin after all. Your obsession with redemption goes beyond the inane.
The Lich King says: You surely wouldn't destroy humanity's only chance to redeem its most wayward son. You'd sooner die!
Highlord Tirion Fordring says: The heart... the last remaining vestige of your humanity. I had to stop it from being destroyed. I had to see for myself. And at last I'm sure...
Highlord Tirion Fordring says: Only shadows from the past remain. There's nothing left to redeem!
Fordring charges the heart and runs it through with , knocking himself out, killing Basaleph and knocking the Lich King away as the heart explodes, dropping the Lich King down to 30% health
The Lich King yells: Arrrrggggggggggggh!
Disguised Crusader yells: Tirion's down! Defend him with your lives!
The Lich King yells: You... will pay for that, old man. Slay them all!
The room full of NPCs circles around the party
(Alliance): Thassarian yells: I hope you fellows don't mind if we crash this party. I brought some old friends with me!
(Horde): Koltira Deathweaver yells: Take courage, crusaders. You do not fight alone!
The friendly death knights and crusaders dispatch the room. Darion then opens a Death Gate to the Crusaders' Pinnacle
Highlord Darion Mograine says: Quick, through the portal! He won't stay down for long.
(Alliance): Thassarian says: Looks like whatever Tirion did put some hurt on the Lich King. It's too bad we can't finish him off....
(Horde): Koltira Deathweaver says: The Lich King is badly hurt. We ought to stay behind and finish him.
Highlord Darion Mograine says: Patience... we will get our chance soon enough. Be content that for once, it is Tirion who is in our debt.
The party takes the portal before the Lich King finishes winding up the Lich King's Fury, which would instantly kill anyone foolish enough to remain behind.

So... it seems Tirion took Mograine's advice after all, and destroyed the last remaining good part of Arthas in his quest to defeat him. I wonder what, if any, consequences this decision will have later in the game, or perhaps when facing Arthas in the final raid.

Tirion seems completely uncorruptable, or is he? And what really is Mograine's agenda, is he manipulating Tirion, trying to destroy not only the Scarlet Crusade and Arthas, but all potential future enemies of the Ebon Blade as well? Or is Mograine still true to his to his father Alexandros, whose appearance at the Light's Hope Chapel battle changed his allegiance from Arthas to Tirion?

WARNING: Hunters that want to watch the Lich King cast Wrath of the Lich King, make sure to dismiss your pet as it will also kill it. Another thing, its not really worth getting killed. You just die, no effects or anything.

Its so frustrating,they now show this ability to make him look invincible,and i think he should be invincible.
But the truth is in some patches we will raid this guy,and he will be just a raid routine,so why do they make him look undefeatable?
They make him look undeafeatable,and then we will kill him.Unless we defeat him in a special way,that's lame.

Just a last note, after you complete this quest, you will see the last "current" phasing on Icecrown. A ton of elites and 6 lvl80 mob packs will spawn in many places around. If you do plan to farm like crazy on Icecrown and want an "easy mode", I do not recommend doing this quest.

But hey, you can farm after, it is just a matter of take extra care. After all, this is the very final quest from WotLK. A must see, period.

Strangely, i have just finished the quest and the Lich King has not done any attack, i was just a witness of nothing.
The people spoke and Darion came slaying the Chosen Zealots. After that the escape portal was summoned and i had the quest finished and i took the portal back to Crusaders Pinnacle.

Is this strange or is the Explosion of the Frozen Heart his fury?

I just did this quest and The Lich King's Fury didn't do anything to me :( I was quite disappointed actually, after seeing The Lich King so much I would have wanted him to kill me at least once by now.

The quest doesn't work today. (Same problem with Culstire^^) I tried everything, (relogging, abandon quest) but nothing works. So now i have an open ticket...and many wasted time :S (although i can see, it is not a new promlem^^) i hope Blizz will fix it soon.

This Quest is simple..... You kill the non elites outside to the right or left of the citadel by the purple bon fires. then you get the mask equip it and the guy you need to talk to (Tirion) is outside by the left bon fire the you follow him in and watch the show basically just stay back so you dont get killed by the blast.... BADA BING BADA BOOM!

Standing infront of the Cathedral of Darkness - you will see a bonfire on each side of the entrance.
By the left one are the Cultist Acolytes - kill one and get the hood.
By the right one, is Tirion Fordring standing with some crusaders.
Tirion and his men is all in disguise.
Put your cap on, and talk to Tirion, and the event begins.
You will walk into the cathedral, and the Lich King will appear, Tirion and the Lich King will start talking, after a while some more crusaders will appear, and they will start fighting with the mobs inside of the cathedral.

I read about some "one shot kill" that the Lich King did - I was standing LOS behind a pillar when it happened, and I didnt get hit by it.

One of the Crusaders will say that you have to hurry and get inside the portal - I took his advise and got in the portal which got me back to the camp of the questgiver.

For those of you that did stay around to get wtfpwned by Arthas and his Lich King's Fury just for the fun of it and the death gate they summon to take you away from the damage is gone like it was for me, just go back to the Crusader's Pinnacle and talk to High Lord Tirion Fordring to complete the quest. Hope you enjoyed getting killed by Arthas like I did!

I thought the quest was bugged too because the guy wasnt there. However, someone else had already started the event, we werent grouped but I stayed to watch and wait for my turn... and it completed for me as well! None of that damage stuff happened to me, so its an easy complete unless you want to see the whole event.

Please note that while wearing the Cultist Hood you are friendly to all of the bad dudes in there. I had a pally attack my poor Holy Priest and he got his rear end handed to him by those same bad dudes.

If you ever get it that the sequence doesn't reset, don't walk in the room and take your hood off, the NPCs will aggro you and kill you. Really Blizzard, this bug has been for a while, there were 2 patches saying that there are bug fixes, but up till now the bugs I know are still not fixed, including this one.

So that makes 2 one shot skills the Lich King has, during a quest I had in howling fjord I had to witness an event in the spirit world, after doing so i wandered around in spirit form a little, and who do I see standing outside Utgarde Keep? The Lich King.

Needless to say, Im like "umm ok, should I go talk to him?", and before I have the opportunity to make up my mind Im deathgripped to him, given a speech about how im not yet "ready to join him", and instant killed. The whole time I was suspended in a black bubble and powerless to do anything.

I was on my way inside there when i saw there was a other player there doing the quest. I just walked up there and got killed my Lich King's Fury and had to redo the quest but it was bugged. I didnt got killed by his attack but i couldn't use the portal or finish the quest either...

I did it and had no problems. Just dont debuff yourself. You dont even need to take the portal. So long as you got the buff from the cloak, you will be fine since the Lich kings Fury spell is for anyone not under his control.

On another note...... if you take of the hood after the army arrives, you can attack him. But only while he is casting Lich Fury. So you only get 7seconds to kill him 8-)

8,300,000 hp. 7second cast time of Fury.

If each player does 10,000 damage within 6s, you would need around 830 players to take his HP to 0 within the 7second cast time of his Fury spell. but lm not sure how much dps a player can do in 6seconds so the number of players needed could be less. How ever really, you would have about 6seconds of fight. Considering how much time it would take a human to bash buttons etc

I think it is possible to do it, but unlikely since you the amount of players and co-ordination needed to kill him is too high.

One tactic is at

0 - 3seconds to Fury cast, everyone pops trinklets/special abilities
0 - 2seconds to Fury cast, all aoe spells are cast ie: mages cast flame strike, shames drop fire nova totem, Palladins cast consecration etc etc
0 seconds, go nuts

This way at 0seconds everyone has all trinklets/ abilites to do max dps starting from 0 to 7 seconds.

The major reason this is unlikely to happen is ... yes thats right the LAG monster. That many players at a single location going nuke would surely cause the server to crash. But hey it would be great to be part of.

I took a Screen cap of me attacking him. I just took the cap at the 7second cast mark just before l died. Hope it makes the cut.

I had read all the responses here and made up my mind that i was gonna get one shotted by the lich king. right before he unleashed his fury i used Empowered Rune Weapon and activated my anti-magic shell, thinking it would probably just raise my runic power and i would still die. nope i survived with no damage. dissapointed i walked out of the hall and jumped to my death. what a let down.

If you want to get hit by his fury, just get naked. There's no fighting in this quest (well, no fighting for you). Then no durability!

And with me, the zealots all just swayed around for a couple minutes. Then backup came. So it may just be laggy.

The quest takes 5 minutes to do once you talk to Tirion.

I think this quest has been thoroughly nerfed. Was a great quest line and I enjoyed it immensely, but I was ready to get killed just so I could hit the Lich King once. Went through the cycle, he opened up his kill shot and I started hitting him with my rotation. Great to actually hit the Lich King by the way. He cast his big spell and nothing happened. I was standing right in front of him wailing away and did not take a hit of damage. Enjoy the quest line to its fullest. Death does not appear to be waiting at the end.

Found him INSIDE but couldn't talk to him. Seems the quest is bugged for me. Anyone else have the same problem?

Kill any of the Cultist Acolytes to get the hood. Tirion will be outside, to the right of the entrance with some Disguised Crusaders. Speak to him to start the script.

When you're told to go through the portal, get through it ASAP. Otherwise, you'll likely be one-shotted.

This has got to be one of the better quests I have done. The NPC is actually involved and not just the go to guy. Granted He gets killed but still.

I won't give away too many details about the quest but I will say its great and has some storyline involved in it.

When you get the quest head on over to the Cathedral of Darkness, On the steps going to the Cathedral I ran into two cultists, First kill dropped the Hood. Immediately put on the hood then proceed up the stairs and to the bonfire at the right side at the top of the stairs. There you will find Tirion and 3 other crusaders disguised. Follow them into the Building (once interacting with Tirion to start the story line quest) and just sit back and watch.

Once they mention a portal being Opened after the story line continues, I've read other places that it doesn't matter how big you think your sword or armor is, you ARE GOING TO GET ONE SHOTTED if you engage. Oh and I've also heard that if you DO NOT go to protect Tirions Body, nothing continues after that point in the story line and the quest will not complete. And I Repeat, DO NOT ENGAGE ANYONE, (you really aren't all that LOL).

And now I learn that it might be Arthas's own heart... a thing containing the last bit of his remaining humanity.

This is a sign of the Light. As long as such an artifact exists, there is a chance that Arthas Menethil can become a man again!
