I tried making it in stormspire and the guards attacked ME when I defended myself from the wraith. I managed to enact a daring escape involving slowfall, healing potions and mana shield, but I'm never going to try making it there again.

For anyone not in the know, these mobs spawn when a tailor creates Spellcloth in Netherstorm. These mobs cannot be hunted down for their motes unfortunately.

I just ask someone in town to help me kill it. Sometimes you'll get some jerk who would rather sit there and watch you fight it but most of the time they don't mind helping you for 20 seconds.

Seems to be extremely weak to holy dmg. Im a holy paladin with about +600 spell dmg and im getting 2500+ crits on my holy shock and 5-stack JoV

I found a nice little place to summon these guys. On the side of the large elevator leading up to the Stormspire is a ledge. you can land on a piece of this ledge, create the cloth, then slowfall away. The mob will despawn pretty quickly, and only get in 1 or 2 hits on you.

Being the nublet I am I just went and made a piece of spellcloth, and one of these things caught me by surprise. Managed to run into A52 but the guards didn't seem to do anything to it.

And while their spells do hurt a tad, once they're out of mana they begin to melee for pathetically low damage, so draining them might be worth it.

Since you want to be able to loot the mob after it dies, waiting till the guards tag it isn't a wise choice since it'll prevent you from looting (at least it has for me). I went up to Stormspire and crafted the cloth near the Consortium guards which are friendly to me, and do as much burst dps as I can before they jump in and finish the mob.

You have a few seconds of taking damage before they respond, but they do plenty of damage to the mob and it will die quickly.

He's not immune to all arcane spells... I'm a tailor on my arc/fire mage and although it is a hassle and I sometimes have to pot, I can still take him down USING my arcane and fire spells. Hell, I crit him with a near 1k arcane missile just today. Be sure to also silence if you can, keep whatever shields up if applicable and pewpew away.

Note: If it is hard for you to kill him, (I usually do mine on the ground outside the Stormspire elevator) pop by the AH or head to the vendor that sells Potions right near the elevator landing. Sometimes you can come across an Arcane Protection potion which should allow you to solo if you cannot.

Priests shouldn't have any issues killing this thing.

For shadow its pretty much a walkover, just put both DoTs and VE on, then fear and flay a few times, when fear breaks it will almost always try to shadowblast you, depending on your +dmg at this point you should either be able to simply finish it off before it finishes the long cast time or just silence it at the end of the cast and finish it.

For holy its really not much worse, if you've made the effort to pick up some +dmg gear anyway. With pretty much a pure healing spec, in +900dmg (inc spi guidance) and icon of the silver cresent activated I was getting 2k holy fire/smite _hits_ on this thing as for some reason it takes higher than usual damage from holy spells (on other mobs the same casts would hit for 1400 or so)

Warlocks similarly should have no issues with this thing, it's fearable and anything fearable is soloable by a warlock, particularly the affliction sorts.

Mages will likely have the most issues, for those I guess the best course of action is nova it and counterspell the arcane missiles, when it tries to shadow blast either iceblock through it or simply use los to block the cast (summoning in or around area 52 can be useful for this)

Just did him on my 43/11/7 Pally. He indeed does take a lot of holy damage, Holy Shock crit for 2170, and JoR hit for 1389, and SoR was ticking for 280 a swing. HoJ'd him durring shadowblast, and he was dead before cast bar ended on second shadowblast.

I don't know if this was a bug or not, but after patch 2.1, I made a spellcloth and got 2 of these guys at once. I'm shadowcloth specialty if it makes a difference. Needless to say I died quickly. Please post here if you experience the same "feature".

i don't know if that from this new patch but area 52 big bruiser (those ogres) help you if you create it near them
i do that all the time although i get killed by those wraith since there were two of them

As of 05/28/07... I tried to summon the mob just to become a Spellfire Tailor for the quest, and it spawned two of them. Impossible at level 64 :P.

And do NOT summon near any guards in Area 52, they will become hostile towards you and kill you, as soon as they are done with the mobs.

Their attack is arcane. Since they spawn from creating Spellcloth, the tailor spawning them should don some arcane resistance gear such as:

All the gear can be crafted by a tailor. Even if you're not a dedicated enough tailor who tries to get all the patterns, some of the above is useful to get tailoring to 375 anyway, so try to get them and make some for yourself. The resistance will help substantially with the attacks from the wraiths. They aren't hard to kill, but hard to live through their attacks.

Locks can do both with the use of Banish. Arcane resist stuff can help, but isn't necessary if you use your VW (aggro at the start and sac for the shield at the end of the fight.)

Without banish, it's a rough fight.

I suggest a healthstone and soulstone just in case.

The other option is to offer someone 1/2 of the motes that drop if they help you kill both when you create your spellcloth. I've found that offering motes will get you a *lot* of offers for help.

So if you don't have a pet/friend... buy one with motes. ;-)

Just made spellcloth in area52 and the ogre bruisers in front of arena vendors beat down the nether-wraith. Didn't get any aggro from them after that.

NOTE: when ou want the gaurds to help you go infron tof the area 52 areana vendor, the two ogre gaurds help u... also note that they will attack YOU if u place the first hit on the enemy, this is just like PVP, the first ne to hit the target is the one downed, so allow him to hit u for 300 (big deal) then DPS as much as u can because if the gaurds do more DPS than you, you cannot loot the free 1/2 motes of fire and mana.

Angered Nether-wraith is nerfed, just saw that instead of 650 or so arcane damage, that each bolt hits, now it's 380-500. So it's easier to kill it, than before.

Make sure to craft your Primal Mooncloth and Shadowcloth BEFORE you craft Spellcloth, the 2 buffs you get from the other 2 CDs help a lot vs. Nether-wraiths.

If your frost spec summon him, Summon your water elemental, Ice block, Wait for elemental to to die, Then spam frostbolts.

Thats what I do. But im sure there are other ways.

Not too hard to kill as a lock, you got fear, banish, and felhunter (for spell lock). As the elemental has not too much life, its an easy burn down as long as you keep up the cc's. Hope this helps ^_^

If you are going to get help from the town guards to kill it, be advised that you have to deal more than 50% of total damage to loot the wraith.

Their slightly more south than what is shown here and they don’t drop every time and I have never been hit with a super dooper shot of 3k! Get outer here will you! They mainly drop primordial essence, elemental fragment.

I spawn the wraith near the entrance to Area 52. I exchange blows with it, and when it starts to charge its shadow blast, I run to the other side of the wall.

So, I just summoned this guy twice in the past week or so while regularly creating my spellcloth. Well, usually he drops a few motes, which is really nice of course. But, for some reason the past two times he has dropped NOTHING! I couldn't loot his corpse, so it could be that the guards killed him too quick for me to get my damage in, but I'm not sure because I dotted him up and shadowburned too. Anyone else having a similar situation?

This applied to my paladin and to my friend's hunter, as well as to our warlock friends. These things pack a punch, but they can be suckered. They're not so fierce now as they may have been in previous months and patches.

These things spawn when you craft spellcloth.

They've always dropped 3x Mote of Fire and 3x Mote of Mana for me (killed 6 of them so far). They can hit for loads of damage (their arcane blast does about 2k damage) so be prepared.

I always do my Spellcloth transmutes near the Stormspire flightpath. There are two guards standing close together who will come to your aid as soon as the wraith starts attacking you. Being a mage with dampen magic and manashield on I took less than 1500 damage before the wraith went down that way.

Ok, if you have the flight path in Netherstorm. And you dont wana die from the elemental after making the cloth.Stand right next to the flight path dude, open up the flight path window and keep your mouse arrow over the the next closest flight path which is Evergrove(i make mooncloth after so i never lose the spellcloth buff in case i did die) Start making the cloth and as soon as it is done making it, you will hear a bang like arcane explosion(Make sure you have it on Auto Loot or you will be put in combat looting) click on the Evergrove town and fly away. If you do it quick enough you will not be in combat and can fly away before getting killed by the elemental who takes .5 seconds or what not to spawn and is about to put a hurt on you.I did this as a level 55 lock btw.

I've used my Spellcloth timer twice ever since the patch, and both times I got two of these yummy nether-wraiths. Double the fun, double the loot :)

I actually like the change a lot. First of all you get twice your primal mats back if you can kill both, which is great; today I got mote of mana x5 mote of fire x5. That's about 20g in refunded mats. Secondly its an actual challenge, and challenges are hard to come by outside of groups. I've always thought Blizzard needed to introduce more heroic-difficulty challenges and quests that don't involve grouping.

As for strategy, I don't know what to tell you. I have to imagine some classes have a really hard time of this. Here are some general pointers that should help you down 2... god help you if you spawn 4!

1. if you have stam gear/pvp gear, wear it. These guys do a ton of damage.

2. you can interrupt/counter spell their arcane bolt spell, which you'll have to do to one if you want to survive. It's not the same school as their nuke (shadow blast), and they can always melee you, but their strongest attack is the arcane bolt and you have to stop one of em from burning you down with it.

3. dampen magic helps. find a mage to buff you

4. banish works, but if you're a lock this fight shouldn't be hard anyway, not with fear and a pet

5. their shadow blast is like a 8 second cast or something. nuke em up until the last second and then interrupt it/bubble/ice block. There's plenty of time to run out of range if you're all out of other options

6. if you've got a pet, let it tank one while you dps the other.

7. be ready! fight it with full buffs, full health, and fresh cooldowns.

8. if all else fails, bring a friend.

Now, I am a level 70 fire mage with no epics. What worked for me was to make spellcloth in area 52 right between the two "big bruisers" then I nuked the one that the big bruisers was attacking. After he died I started to attack the secont one, I used counterspell right at the end of his big shadowbolt cast. I got to loot both of them without much health loss or potions.

I made this with my holy priest beside the bruisers and used holy nova to tag them. SW'd the one before it casted shadowbolt, and I didn't get loot from either.

Any ideas?

oh my, came all the way from Honor hold right into netherstorm and attracted that wraith.. (the way from honor hold i managed without a single fight, bit lucky but not that difficult.. but, even though im a lvl64 mage i wasnt prepared to die that fast on the attracted wraith.. :/ oh well, now i can do 1 spellcloth in early lvl atleast, 1 is better then none :)

I don't see how that fits in lore, Nether-Wraiths attacking you because you aparently screw with the environment when you make spellcloth, when the blood elves at all the manaforges are sucking mana out of the ground and sky.

Chezzik's Tailoring Guide (on the WoW Forums) suggests that if you don't want to fight, open a window to the flight guy and jump on a ride out after the Mooncloth completes and before you're in combat.

Please Read
This is a summoned mob. You summon him by making spellcloth. To make spellcloth you need 350 tailoring and have the recipe from an NPC in Lower City. If you do a quest (350+ tailors only) you can specialize in Spellcloth tailoring and when you make your spellcloth (in Netherstorm only) you will get 2x spellcloth for the price of one. Don't go looking around for this mob in hopes for 200% drop rate of motes because you wont find one.

My tailor is a level 70 warlock, and when I make spellcloth and summon one of these things, I frequently see PARTIAL RESISTS to my shadow damage spells.

Since these creatures are not higher than level 70 themselves, it means they must have at least some SHADOW RESISTANCE.

I don't know if they have any Resistance to other schools of magic, but I'm sure they have Shadow Resistance.

Spawns when you create Spellcloth in Netherstorm. Will not spawn for any other reason. (Note: only 1 will spawn after patch 2.1.2)

Health: around 12,000

Attacks:
Basic melee, around 300 dmg
Arcane bolt, 1 sec cast, 700-1000 dmg, interruptable
Shadow blast, 6 sec cast, around 3500 dmg, interruptable

Drops:
1-3 motes of mana
1-3 motes of fire

Here is how I kill it as a PoM/frost mage with mostly T4 level gear without using Area 52 guards.

1. Buff up, cast dampen magic and mana shield
2. Make Spellcloth
3. Spellcloth finishes, cast AP/Icy veins, pop trinket
4. Angered nether-wraith appears, spam to target it quickly
5. Fire blast
6. Frost nova, strafe away out of melee range
7. CS to silence
8. Frostbolt / Ice lance combo.
9. PoM frostbolt
10. Fire blast again (CD is up by this point)

Usually by this time the mob is dead or nearly dead (depending on how many crits you got), so just throw another frostbolt/CoC/ice lance to finish it. Ice block can be used to wait for the CD on fire blast.

If the mob starts casting shadow blast, simply DPS it down as you normally would, but at the last second pop Ice block to block the shadow blast. This works well because while the mob is casting shadow blast it is not damaging you, so you can freely damage it. Just make sure you avoid taking damage from shadow blast, because there are reports of it critting for over 6k.

If the fight is not working well, run into Area 52 and get the guards to help. I usually fight a little bit outside the door so that the guards do not interfere but I can run to them for help if necessary. If you are about to die then shield, LoS pull to the guards and Ice block. Make sure you break LoS because if not, the mob will just sit outside and spam Arcane bolts at you and you will die quickly. Once you get to the guards they will take care of the rest.

All you have to do is take your voidwalker and round up 5-6 of them and spam seed of coruption and they will pop one after another so they die right then and there.Good luck farming

The last time I killed this mob it dropped 3xMote of Mana and 2xMote of Fire.

So yeah, I'd say it's worth it to kill it; I have no problem as a holy/disc priest. Just be smart and make sure you're somewhere safe before you create spellcloth to summon it.

This guy hits like an elite almost.. lots of health too. I just frost nova him, run out of line of sight and use Invisibility rather than waste time trying to kill him and losing durability when he squashes me.

1,5 sec cast arcane bolts for 800 damage and 6 sec cast shadow blasts for 2500 damage, this is quiet killable with some classes. Dropped 3 mote of mana and 3 mote of fire for me ^^

Can't you run in to Area 52 and have the guards help you kill them? I'm sure there are some eager toons too that will help in. Always had a 30+ help me kill Slim in the Wetlands..?

Ill admit he does hit very hard. What i do first is summon my water elemental, then when he spawns hit him with fire blast, frost nova, then ice lance. Usually ice barrier falls quickly so i hit ice block and let the elemental weaken him a bit more. Usually down to about 20% health when i un-block, raise another barrier then finish him off. May depend on your talent build though how you handle him.
Just keep an eye on your health and try and use instant casts.

Since the patch, yes two spawn which makes it a little harder, but it's still pretty easy for a warlock if you use your spells properly. Fear/Banish/Curse of Doom is all you'll need.

Tank 1st one with your pet, target 2nd one and use Amplify Curse (if you have it) and Curse of Doom followed by 30 sec banish, then 20 sec banish. In the meantime fear the 1st one. Repeat until they're both down.

Once again blizz has put it back to one spawn of these when making spellcloth, so u wont die if u htink u can solo 2. I have no idea why they would put two in? like 10k hp and shadow blasts for like 3k? Rediculous imo

These guys suck, and their arcane missiles HURT! :( Even with magic resistant buffs and pots I barely manage to kill them, if I don't die. ><

Also for mages, don't try to waste your counter spell right away... pop a health pot, pop a shield and wait until he starts casting a longer casting spell. If you CAN counterspell the arcane missiles that's ideal, but the shadowbolt hurts just as much... ><

anyone else not get any motes or loot at all from killing the Angered Mana-Wraith? I didn't get any from my first spawned. It was one that I personally spawned, and no one else touched it other than guards that helped me. I was just surprised nothing dropped because I was told there would be some motes.

If your gear isn't great and you want to kill Angered Nether-wraith, just fight it while standing slightly to the left outside the Area 52 town gate. When it starts casting Shadow Blast, at about 50-75% through (depending how fast you are), just run through the gate and LOS the cast around the corner. Rinse and repeat until it's dead.
