The egg is guarded by 3 level 50 - 51 elite trolls that walk a tight circle around the egg.

I soloed this as a level 52 Paladin using engineering to assist me. I rode into Jintha'alor on my mount and ran into the cave. I made it to the room with the egg in the back of the cave before finally dieing. I then rezzed in the corner of the room threw up a quick heal and used my gnomish mind control cap to MC the watcher guarding the egg. I then had the watcher attack the mobs and I bubbled. I ran to the egg released my bubble and looted before the MC wore off.

This is soloable by a 50+ rogue. Stand on top of the egg (moving to avoid the patrol if needed), and distract them on the west side. Drop down to the east side, out of line of sight. Loot egg, re-stealth, run.

Solo'd as a 52 hunter, in the little tunnel that leads upto the egg you can stand w/o aggro'n anyhting, I got up to there, died, res'd.

Plant Frost trap, send pet in to attack mobs, pull pet back, set him to attack them on the frost trap, you run and loot egg while pet is being slaughtered :p had time to HS out of there too :D

Pet died, but he was a sacrifice I was willing to make :D

1. Stealthed up to the egg - No probs.
2. Distracted the group of three.
3. Sapped the named one.
** Be sure to be away from the single guard to the north **
4. (Still in stealth) Used Gnomish net-o-matic projector on a guard.
5. Now out of stealth, used blind on the other guard.
6. Loot the egg.
7. Vanish.
8. Get outta there.

Solod as a 48 rogue. Used the distract on one side of the egg while looting as far back on the other side of the egg as I could. The egg does have a casting time of about three seconds in case anyone was wondering.

Alchemy doesnt work. (Lesser) Invisibility or Invulnerability - tried both several times.

Invisibility - you come out as soon as you start opening the egg (regardless of time remaining on potion).
Invulnerability - told me I "could not perform that task while immune."

I wasted a lot of time and effort for nothing.

The easiest wa for a warlock is to use your voidwalker his sacrifice. It will take some soul shards and you need to summon him right away. So they can't hit you and you can get the egg=)

I corpse hopped this on my warlock. It took about 45 minutes. If you can't get a group and don't feel like fighting you can just corpse hop to the top and summon your voidwalker in the cave and grab the egg before you die. You will definately die a lot but at 51 it was probably the easiest and fastest way to do this quest without a group.

Soloed as a 49 rogue. It would be impossible for any other class (druids don't have distract/vanish).
Stealthed up to egg, distracted them when they were on the side next to the other guard, looted the egg, died, and spirit healed. Be careful to get all of the patrol when you distract, and be aware that they can resist (I attempted to use the same technique to hearth out, one resisted and and she aggroed, pulling the others :P). The whole thing took 10-20 mins (I wasn't watching the time)

To get to the egg, you must go through the cave to the end, through a bunch of 50s elites. The egg itself, is guarded by 3 mobs. You either need a group, or a good strategy to solo to get it.

I was able to do it as a 50 Warrior. I had to die / spirit run the whole way through the cave, and then basically, pop Bloodrage while getting beat on enough to try an Intimidating Shout. The first time, two mobs resisted. The second, they all feared, giving me JUST enough time to loot the egg before dying..I spirit rezzed, and hearthed out to finish. Not an easy way, but possible.

The egg is that the back of a cave at the very top of Jintha'Alor, so if you're horde, be sure to pick up all these quests from Raventusk village:

Sorry guys, this may seem not obvious to some people, like me. But the egg, to be clearer, is located in a cave. (As stated ^^) Heres how to get there. (Bring a fiend, suggested)

1. Enter Jintha'Alor, you'll notice it's full of nasty troll elites.
2. Work your way to the top of the "temple" (i suppose you can call it.) This isn't hard, just follow the roads and go up every set of stairs you come across.
3. Keep gonig up until you see a the cave that is marked on your map. This is not the right cave, but it is close to it.
4. Facing the cave, turn left. It is the very left route. You will enter a very opened - spaced, what you might call, ritual area. It is guarded by elite dogs, elite guards, and a named NPC.
5. You will see also there is an altar in the middle of this place, with a horde troll on it, in a dead position. This marks the entry to the cave. The cave entrance is around where the troll is.
6. Work your way through the cave. This may require some naked suicidal runs to save repair bills, and lots of corpse runs, which thankfully, are around the horde base, so it isn't too far.
7. You'll come to the end of the cave, where there is another named NPC, and two guards patrolling in circles around the egg. It is very hard to kill these people to reach the egg, and can only be looted if they are not attacking you somehow. You cannot be bubbled, stealthed etc. I suggest bringing a friend with you so u can ninja loot it ^^
8. Get the hell outta there, and pray you will never have to return. : )

Rofllll, this can be soloed by anyone willing to die a few times (much MUCH easier for a stealther).

Basically, you need to somehow get to the room with the egg, via dying many many times I would imagine or by stealthing there. Now, as a feral druid, I thought I didn't stand a chance since I didn't realize that the mobs in the cave are higher level than all the others outside (they were about lv 49-51).

I did this at lvl 53 and just waited for the pats to be on the opposite side of the rock the egg is on and broke stealth to loot (I went to humanoid form of course) and the time it took them to walk around the opposite side to my side and aggro me was JUST enough to loot it (make sure you auto loot it!). I went back into cat and sprinted out (also using my stopwatch for an extra boost when sprint wore out) and I magically made it out alive with about 1% HP left!

Now, for people who can't stealth, I imagine you need to make it up there and do exactly what I just said (except instead of un-stealthing, you rez!) You probably will have to take a spirit rez once you loot it.

Really, this tactic requires a bit of common sense, so if you're not confident in yourself as a player, then I would just look for help, but if you think you're an intelligent player who knows how the game works, then you may be able to pull through :)

YAY for 2.3!

The Avatar of Hakkar will spawn more often, as this has generally been the biggest bottleneck for the quest. This quest will be as easy as pie now that post-2.3, all outdoor mobs will become non-elite.

Before: 3 elites guarding the egg, including a healer.
Now: 3 non-elites, easy as pie. =D

i soloed as a lvl 47 mage, i died lots to get to where the egg is, but just couldn't clear it, so what i did was, i got my ghost to the back of the egg and while the 3 guards where on the other side, i ressed and clicked the egg, luckily i got the egg, then i tried running but didn't go far.

this is if you are too low to kill the guards, otherwise just clear your way. i'm all yellow now. O.o

it is correct that there are no elites, but as previously stated, they are all still there..

Personally, did this as a level 46 mage..

Died 15+ times getting there due to not killing anything.. just running, dieing, running, dieing.. etc.

Anyways, if you go through a pit with slimes in it, turn around.

Also, the cave with two 50 elites standing guard = wrong cave.

I'd suggest heading over to the Alter of Zul and getting the mallet to create the Mallet of Zul'Farrak while you're in the area.

It's very easy for Shadow Priest (lvl 50).

I Mind Soothed all the mobs on the stairs to the cave. in the cave, killed some mobs and mind soothed again. I saw 3 guard is standing for the egg. First used shield and quickly killed healer. While killing healer i casted Shadow Word : Pain and Devouring Plague to the other mobs. After killing healer the other guards have 3/1 health:) And killed easly. Taked the egg and finaly used my heartstone to go to Tanaris to give the egg to the Quest giver:)

Thats the way with Shadow Priest ;)

Spent nearly two hours with a mage friend trying to two man this (I'm a prot pally). He's 43 and I'm 46...

Bad idea. They may not be elite but they sure do respawn fast. Cleared to the egg room, wiped on the three gaurds due to an uncanny amount of resists and LoH on CD. Ran all the way back and by the time we got to our bodies all the surrounding mobs had respawned. Res. Die. Spirit res. Portal and /cry :(

This is how i did it with my 49 druid.

Prowl to Hitah'ya the Keeper and pounce and kill her, use regrowth and rejunavation and change to bear form and kill the remaining 2. Still had 2500/3200 hp left after. Easy like a cake!

Just mount to the cave unless you want a little xp on the way up. Once in the cave go to the right and it kinda wraps around and goes up to 2nd level where egg is. If you are below level 50, prepare to waste alot of time grave yard running back once in the cave. I personally think soloing this quest is a total waste for the rewards unless you are trying for the whole chain. Even with chain its a waste thesze days, especially with 2nd expansion coming out. No reason spending hours to get gear you will replace the next day.

I soloed this as a 48 Holly Paladin, it wasn't too bad but just took alot of time. I made my way to the cave killing 2 or 3 trolls at once to save time. Once I got into the cave I pull those 50-51s one at a time making sure to always kill all the casters first. They will hex you and turn you into a sheep for most of the fight. Once I got to the egg, there was 3 lvl 51s protecting it, NO elites since the patch all of them are non-elites which made it a pretty easy fight. Once I got to the egg only took me 2 mins to finish off all 3 mobs, but getting there was a pain.

This is how I did it with my Lvl 50 warrior.

1). go to defensive mode when you reach the egg chamber.
2). let them hit you till you have 25 rage.
3). Use Intimidate Shout. (make sure you can shout all three of them)
4). you will have 8 seconds to loot the egg, and the opening time of the egg is 5 sec. I did Shift + left click.
5). you can try to kill them.

I did this as a level 51 Hunter with my Gorilla. The only hard bit was once you find the egg and have to kill the 3 mobs. I can confirm there are no elite mobs.
Keep to the paths, and keep going up stairs. The opening to the cave is also marked by, what looks like, a mask on a rock. Work your way through the cave is simple enough. Level 50/51 inside the cave. I do recommend hearthstoning out of the mine as i dont fancy killing them all again.

Solo'd as a 48 disc priest (WITHOUT DYING).

1. Pull alll mobs 1 by 1 (or as many as you can) on your way to the cave.
2. Single out the few elites outside the entrance to the cave.
3. When at the egg focus on healer. After she is dead FEAR, loot the egg and run.

Always use power word shield and fear to their fullest and this is easy (just takes 45 min-1h)
Also if you fight your way up you get a nice 40k xp from all the kills.

Solo'd as a 46 elemental shaman... was kinda painful, took forever to kill the 51 mobs. Magma totem is your friend... when I got to the Keeper and her guards, I just waited till they pathed around the other side of the egg, ran up and looted it while they ran around it and rezzed at the spirit. Ran back up later when I had more patience to finish it, haha.

HAHA! Solo'd as a lvl 47 pally. I died a few times going up to the cave because Priestess Hexx kept polymorphing me and pounding on me. Anyway, I waited until she was outside the entrance to the cave at the altar and ran in there and kited the guard at the entrance deep enough so that she wouldnt aggro when she walked in and killed the guard. I am a ret pally and I had the Judgements of the Wise at 3/3 talent points. Using Seal of Light, Blessing of Might, Judgement of Light and Exorcism, I was able to work my way through the cave itself without dying. When I got to the Egg with the three guards, I popped Divine Protection and just went for the egg. Sure they attacked me but they couldnt hit me hard enough to kill me. When I got the egg I ran for it and when I got far enough away, they stopped chasing me. Hearthed out! Piece of Cake!

There are still 3 mobs surrounding the egg when you get to it (took raddudedans directions, very helpful) . soloed as a lvl 48 disc priest, took on all 3 mobs and lived, bubbled, took out the name, refreshed bubble, took out the other 2 guys. Make sure you keep your bubble and your dots up on whomever you are killing, makes em die faster (duh). didnt even get near dying, was almost oom at the end tho. GL!

Ok, Easy Mode for Pallys.

Lvl 46 Prot/Ret

I did this as Ret...but forget all that. Run in there, die, run back, run, die and repeat until you die on the egg.

Stand behind the egg and as soon as the mob is directly in front of you and the egg, make sure your res button is over the egg, res and quickly click the egg. (For some reason you cant bubble and loot it, F*** you Blizz.)

You got it. Now die, res sickness and hearth.

I know this isnt the most 1337 way, but i hate this place and im sure you do too.

Soloed as a 47 BM Huntard with a Cat for pet. Just use your mount until you get to the cave. After that up to you. You can run and use Feign Death or other similar skill when mobs attack you or kill them. Fight is pretty easy. Aggro them with pet, mend, heal, drink potions if needed to distract them for a second, traps, mobs dead :) Well, easy quest for a Hunter with Ferocity pet ( it is able to kill a mob only by itself ). I am sure with tank will be even easier.

58 Shamman and myself (54 Holy Priest) tried to do it the normal way (you know pull mob -kill it; move on to next mob; rinse + repeat). We got into the cave in back of the amphitheatre and made it most of the way there. Its hard. We were not that patient, because the shamman had an appointment to go to, and that is probably what got us killed.

I would recommend doing this in a group of 3 or more lvl 53-56. Having a pet/minion would also be a plus.

P/S -> Its R-O-G-U-E not "rouge," thats either make-up or the color red in French :P

Reach the cave by whatever means. You can mount all the way if you want. Right up to the entrance.

The important part... at the end of the cave, the egg is in the center. 3 patrols circle it. The first 2 (in my spawns) were chicks. The last one was a guy.

I'll label it A - 1st chick, B - 2nd chick, C - 3rd chick.

After trying to retrieve the egg in my first time (and dying before i can... they interrupted me..) I observed in spirit form and noticed that...

In the room, towards the WALL, looking ACROSS, chick B walks awfully close to the egg.. but then later moves TOWARDS (sorta looks like they're merging) with chick A. So when chick B moves AWAY from the egg and TOWARDS chick A, thats when you can accept your corpse, or release stealth, and click on the egg. By the time they find out and run towards you, you've already have gotten the egg.

BTW, this can be easily done with distract it seems.. but the tip was for non-rogues.

remember its in a cave . so if u take a look on ur map its located somewhere in the mountains.

the mobs are up to lvl 52 in that cave.

personally i think its a maximum annoying quest.
the way up is really long and the cave is filled up with those trolls.

i got killed several times (lvl 50 druid) because the lvl 51/52 guys break ur stealth easily. ill wait till lvl 55 then stealth-> walk up there again-> invisibility potion-> grab egg-> die -> rezz.

if u are able to find a nice group to manage this u are really lucky . have much fun with this one.

Took me about six deaths but I finally figured out how to do it. As a ghost, position yourself at water level on the ne side of the egg. when they're on the far side (nearly as far as they get from the egg) and they cannot see you, rez then hit blessing of salvation on yourself (lowers your threat 30%). I had an extra second after grabbing the egg 'fore they killed me.

lvl 46 paladin. heh, beat that rogues :)

Apparently this site isn't used for location anymore... yeah... coords are great - but useless with this pretty much bc u have to go thru a city to get there....

found this on allakhazam.....

The map shows A cave in Jin'Thara but it's not the right cave. The one you want is located behind the altar that you use for the enchanted mallet quest. The cave that's shown in the map is where the missing gryphon is.

Anyway, it's a long zig-zag trail through the city to get to this point, full of level 47 elite through level 50 elite trolls. Some are easier to avoid than others.

You don't have to kill the guys standing at the altar to get to the cave.. just sneak around behind them.

Once inside the cave, all three paths lead to the egg; HOWEVER, there are a LOT of enemies in here.

If you have more than one person doing the quest, you have to wait for the egg to reappear once one person gets it (roughly a 15 second wait).

Once you get the egg, exit the cave, make a clear enough area to get on your horse, and hightail it out of there. If you follow the stone path to the stairs and DO NOT STOP, you should be fine.

The regeneration rate in that city is ridiculously fast.

There is no trick to it. Once you die urself into the room were the egg is, just stand in the water against the NE wall of the egg, slightly ahead of the incline which would let u stand on the plataform and wait for the mobs to be almost opposite to you. Rez yourself and click on the egg...you should have enough time to grab it before they interrupt you. This should help all classes.

For all those players having trouble looting the egg.
Stand south west side of rock where the egg is on.
As the 3 pats goes to the east side, they stop for a sec. thats when you hit res, and click on the egg.
I did this my first try, worked well and managed to get the egg. AUTO LOOT is a must :D

If you're gonna go to this place, it's recommendable that you do the other quests here too:

Saving Sharpbeak. Given from the guy in the aviari behind the Alliance FP in The Hinterlands. It's a detective quest that ends in Jintha'Alor with your freeing Sharpbeak, a cute baby gryphon.

The Mallet of Zul'Farak - not actually a quest. You have to kill some easy elite priests at one of the other temples in the Hinterlands to get the Sacred Mallet. Then you go to the Altar of Jintha'Alor - right in front of the cave with the ancient egg - and right click the mallet, and voila, you've got The Mallet of Zul'Farak - which is needed to summon Gahz'Rilla in ZF.
There's a quest in Shimmering Flats where you need to summon and kill Gahz'Rilla to get one of his scales, to get a carot on a stick (+3% mount speed). You need the Mallet of Zul'Farak to summon Gahz'Rilla. Annoying part: The carrot on a stick quest is level 42.

I know nobody wants to hear about rogues stealthing in and getting egg, but I had trouble following the other rogue posts.
1. get to egg, and stand on top of "altar" next to egg

2. When patrol of 51 elites is where you come in cast distract on them

3. Here is where I was confused: Now drop back down IN the water keeping the rock/altar between you and the patrol and click on the egg. Apparently the rock acts as a sort of shield where they dont see you, so they dont become UN-distracted. I assume as long as it you have it between them and you. You dont have to be on top of the altar/rock to interact with the egg!

4. Get out :-) ( I hearthed just cuz I did not want to stealth all the way back down.

this was very easy, as 52 druid. stealthed in as cat. went to the farthest point of the cave and watched the mob of three circling the egg for a minute. got the pattern down. stealth to the pillar with the egg on it. you can be next to the pillar and mouse over it and see that you can unlock the egg. you dont have to be on it. stay down off the pillar, wait till the mob circles almost out of site of you to your north east, the right click, youll get the egg, then kind of circle to ne to stay out of site of mob until you can morph back to cat and stealth out.. no fighting, no hassle.

The caster mobs can Polymorph you for 8 seconds, and they will continue to attack you without breaking the spell, just incase noone else mentioned this.

soloed this on a 48 mage, it is way easier then when i did this back on my hunter pre BC, im arcane so arcane power+ acrane explosion = death for the caster and her two guards.

I did this as a lvl 52 draenei elemental shaman. I had no problems at all ... i casted elemental mastery, gift of the naaru, then i casted chain lightning ( i do about 1000 - 700 - 400 ), i killed the boss, healing potion and i killed the 2 mobs and got the egg. Easy :)

As a lvl 52 hunter this quest was so easy. I just ran all the way through the maze like ruins on my mount and feign death when needed (which was only once) Once you get to the cave I went ahead and killed the rest, there weren't very many. All Paths lead to the same place in the cave. Goodluck!

easy quest everyone thats saying to run in and die and rez repeat just kill ur way through up to the cave and all the way through cave. soloed as a 49 mage no problems. sheep one of the pats by the egg killed other 2 then killed sheep didnt even run outta man just play it safe while going through cave watch out for pats so ur not fighting one and get ta pat and freak out and die. this quest is easly soloble did it on my warrior before this alt at level 51. kill the mobs gives good xp i got almost a half a level from killing everything

Im very proud to say that i solo'd this alone as a 48 mage, this is how i did it:

First get a mount, get frost spec upt to ice barrier (or mana shield), just race to the top and u will probaly die near the case somewhere.
Ress near the cave in an open spot were u dont get aggro and rebuff ur self with ice armor and int and dmp magic. Cast ice barrier and mana shield and run like u have never seen a mage run before(be sure to cast frost nova if u have assebled enough mobs cuz there are alot of them in the cave.
Then Just Die near the egg, close enoug so u can ress just beside the stonetable
When u CW, and now u have to read carefully, choose your moment to ressurect very carefuly.
There are 3 mobs who circle around the table. U can hide behind the table so they wont 'see' u. I dont know if this is gnome related but thats for u to find out. If u ress at the back of the table just as the mobs turn and go 'out of sight'so to speak, ress and get the egg. U dont have to die, when they circle around u make sure u circle around with them, only on the otherside of the cricle, this gives u time to rebuff urself (int, ice armor, ice barrier and dmp magic). Now Youre Ready To Go. Run Run Run, maybe die, Run out of the cave. U will probaly die around this point so make sure u just inside the cave or outside, or just die and let the spirit healer do the work for u.

Soloed This at 44. Distracted when they were on opposite side, only got two, the priest resisted, started walking toward the egg when she saw me vanished looted the egg, by the time of the first hit had egg in inventory, then ran my ass out of there.

There are two caves, one marked on the map and one at 58, 79. You want the cave at 58, 79. It is inbetween two pools behind a span of steps.

The egg is at 57, 86. Hitah'ya and two guards roam in a circle around the egg which is on a pedastool in a small pool of water. They are the farthest away from the egg when they hit the north west portion of their walk.

I corpsed dragged my 47 priest all the way back into the cave and took two attempts at the egg to get it. I used Power Word: Shield and a Lesser Invisibility Potion.

So it is not fun, but possible to do.

I soloed this with my lvl 48 rogue. I did not succeed on the first attempt as I was detected and interupted just before I completed opening the egg.
The location is, as was said, not in the cave you see onthe map but you do have to make your way to the highest area of the city. I did not use vanish until i attempted to take the egg, I was always in stealth mode.
The second attempt, I positioned myself to the right of the egg as you enter the room, i went arround once following the three guards and then when stopped to let them advance 1/3 way around, i was able to open the egg but was hidden from their view for a few secs and clicked vanish and then opened the egg and got it, then was killed, then I simply was rezzed and HS back to Ogri.

It is quite easy to do as a priest (Nighelf especially) if you do the following

1. Mind soothe on the trolls
2. Stay clear of the wolves and voidwalkers

Shadowmeld really helps when someone is too close for your liking.

Once you get to the egg you soothe the first one and run around the three guards. Stand as far from the first guy as possible and when the three trolls starts to attack you use fear and take the egg.

After that you die and resurrect at spirit healer or go back and soothe your way out.

Only died two times and one was because I messed up and got to close to a wolf

managed to solo this quest as a lvl 53 warrior. How? I used my Gnomish mind control cap to MC one guard (i'm pretty sure the named would've been immune) and i made him attack at least once both of them to be sure he has the aggro, then managed to loot the egg.

(i know the MC cap will be "nerfed" next patch (1.11) but it will still be doable as the target is not in combat when you MC him)

I completed this solo, as a level 50 shadow priest. I died at least 5 times doing this quest alone. The final time I died was directly on top of the egg. After I ran all the way back to the egg, I resurrected, psychic screamed and opened it. One of the trolls that had been screamed aggro'ed another, and that troll hit me right before the egg finished opening, and missed. :)

It's difficult, but not impossible.

Soloed this yesterday with a 50 Hunter. Black arrow, serpent sting, and pet did most of the work. Did the whole Jin'Thara quest set, think 6 quests in the area, with no real problem. Just take your time and let your pet grab the aggro. Used a tenacity pet set up for massive healing and aggro. Healed the pet when it needed it and feigned death as soon as they came at me. Never died, fought my way in and back out with ease.

I found it best to fd in the hall right before the egg and kill the patrol and the single mob before using my pet to aggro the 3 mobs guarding the egg. Make sure you use cheetah before sending pet to tank all 3 guards at the egg and use a freeze trap on one mob if you need to.

i got lucky!

i was a lvl 50 rogue and i wanted to do this quest but there were LOADS of alliance including 2 lvl 60s. i just stealthed and let them clear the entire run. then i looted the egg as soon as they were gone and voila, 5900 xp for free!

Did this quest with my lvl 50 rogue. Stealthed all the way to the cave. Used distract at the west part of the area of the egg (what Arthalas posted) then clicked the egg from the east (where the ramp to of the pedestal is). Gave me about 2 secs allowance to stealth back before the 3 elites got out of my distract.

I tanked (55 buffed warrior) for a superb 50 priest, thank goodness he knew the way, and we did great until we got to the egg chamber, then died like dogs. came back with a god-like 70 who made it easy. no way (rhetorically speaking, and I acknowledge the possibility of rare exceptions) could anyone below 60 solo this without stealth.

Saving Sharpsbeak is easy compared to the egg, once you get all the way to the top of the temple compound. Egg in cave behind Hexx, Sharpsbeak to right at small grassy field overlooking valley floor.

If you're a 50+ rogue and wondering if you can solo this quest, yes, you can. I managed it without aggro'ing a single mob. I did sap one of the three that patrol the egg, waited for them to disappear around the other side, looted, then vanished right as they were getting close.

It went so fast I decided to take out several on the way out.

It's easy to run into the cave, since you can stay mounted until that time. Die in the egg chamber. Respawn on top of the egg, and as soon as you do, drop a target dummy. The 3 trolls guarding the egg will go for it, leaving you enough time to grab the egg. You'll die again afterwards, of course, but easy enough to respawn at the graveyard with the egg in your posession.

I was lucky enough to get a group together of people hanging out in the Hinterlands (4 of us total).

The map shows A cave in Jin'Thara but it's not the right cave. The one you want is located behind the altar that you use for the enchanted mallet quest. The cave that's shown in the map is where the missing gryphon is.

Anyway, it's a long zig-zag trail through the city to get to this point, full of level 47 elite through level 50 elite trolls. Some are easier to avoid than others.

You don't have to kill the guys standing at the altar to get to the cave.. just sneak around behind them.

Once inside the cave, all three paths lead to the egg; HOWEVER, there are a LOT of enemies in here.

With luck on my side again, another group showed up to help fight the enemies.

If you have more than one person doing the quest, you have to wait for the egg to reappear once one person gets it (roughly a 15 second wait).

Once you get the egg, exit the cave, make a clear enough area to get on your horse, and hightail it out of there. If you follow the stone path to the stairs and DO NOT STOP, you should be fine.

The regeneration rate in that city is ridiculously fast.

I followed the technique described earlier to solo this:

1. I stealthed to the cave located at the top of Jin'Thara in The Hinterlands and at loc 60,79.

2. Staying in stealth, I walked around the egg staying opposite of the 3 guards. I figured out the point at which I could grab the egg with the guards as far away as possible: this was when the guards were right in front of the entranceway to the egg room from my perspective opposite of them. I believe that did put them in the Northwest corner with me in the Southeast.

3. Just before they were at that point, I switched to Night Elf form and started looting the egg. They noticed me around 80% done, but didn't get a hit on me until I had the egg.

I died twice before I got the timing right.

As of Patch 2.3, if there were any elites gaurding the egg, they are not doing so any more. All the mobs are 50-51 regular.

The egg is in the very back of the cave, but it is guarded by 3 trolls, so it can be tough to solo. I did this as a lvl 53 holy Priest. I rushed in, feared the mobs away, looted the egg and did my best to run out of the cave, and died at the entrance to the cave.

My 43 Rogue just did this quest Solo, and I only died twice. It was quite simple, lol. Run in with balls to the wall to the ancient egg. Die. Spawn on the opposite side of the of the 3 elites, and open the egg. There's plenty of time to open it, once open, either vanish and sneak out and probably die, or just die, lol. Good luck!

I solo'd it on the 3rd try. 53 NE rogue w/ MOD(5). Stood on top of egg so they wouldn't notice me. Then I threw a distract when they were at the front of the room, backed up to the point where the gear icon was grey, then went forward a bit and opened the egg. They noticed me right as my cooldown ended and I stealthed so I needed to vanish to get out of there.

Solo'd as a 51 warrior. Equipped tank gear, mounted up and ran to the top. Jumped in to a fountain to remove aggro. Then undressed myself, ran to the cave. Died, ressed, feared the three elites, looted, died, spirit ressed. All in the matter of 15 minutes. :-)
I'm certain it would be solo able for a warrior lower level too.

Reach the cave by whatever means. You can mount all the way if you want. Right up to the entrance.

The important part... at the end of the cave, the egg is in the center. 3 patrols circle it. The first 2 (in my spawns) were chicks. The last one was a guy.

I'll label it A - 1st chick, B - 2nd chick, C - 3rd chick.

After trying to retrieve the egg in my first time (and dying before i can... they interrupted me..) I observed in spirit form and noticed that...

In the room, towards the WALL, looking ACROSS, chick B walks awfully close to the egg.. but then later moves TOWARDS (sorta looks like they're merging) with chick A. So when chick B moves AWAY from the egg and TOWARDS chick A, thats when you can accept your corpse, or release stealth, and click on the egg. By the time they find out and run towards you, you've already have gotten the egg.

BTW, this can be easily done with distract it seems.. but the tip was for non-rogues.

As a lvl 55 Druid, twas easy for me to Cat stealth my way through the temple without aggro.
When I made my way to the egg room, I used Timberling and Mechanical Yeti summon items that I earned from a previous quests to distract the guards.
Then I swiped the egg and then stealth and hearthed my way out. (Best-case Scenario)

But then I got the egg and died, at least I got it.

I read here that this quest was soloable. I had to do Saving Razorbeak as well, so I thought I'd give this a go. Unfortunately, I could NOT solo Vile Priestess Hexx. Too many froggings. And she hits hard.
Anyway, 53 NE BM Hunter. Died 5 times or so getting to where the egg was. I rezzed last time in a corner where the pat around the egg couldn't see me when I shadowmelded. My armor was in red. My bow was broken. All I had was my pet. I rezzed him, stealthed him (I KNEW that would come in useful one day!), worked both our healths up to full. I attacked the group of three with my pet and jumped on the egg after he aggro'd them all. I got the egg just as he died (poor guy!) tried to run and feign death, but they owned me quick with greatly reduced armor. Died, rezz'd at grave, hearth'd with egg in hand, and ALL armor red. Quite the repair bill there!

I solo'd this as a 46 mage. i found the cave at around 60,79 in the hinterlands. how to do this solo... very carefully! I did alot of rez and run. i finally got to the egg after die'n about 7 or 8 times and you get on the opposite side of the egg as the 3 elites are and as soon as you have enough distance away from the elite's to rez with out agro'n them do it and hold shift and right click the egg and you should just get done looting as they start attacking you. then you die and hearth back and get your 1.5g repair bill.

Yes ANYONE can do this quest soloing! (exept lowbies)
First step is to get there unless you a rogue or a druid run in and die over and over again untill you are at the egg. Second step is to position the mobs to wehre they are in front of the entrence to the egg and you are opposite of them, step up as far away as you can loot the egg from and use your corpse as a marker. Final step is to rez loot the egg (where your corpse is) and die again! you can do all the positioning while you are dead. good luck i soloed it as a lvl 53 shaman...

A friend of mine and I did this last night. I'm a 55 elemental shaman, she's a 46 holy priest.

So to get to this place, you have to fight through all the levels of Jintha'alor (about lv. 48 elites) to get to the top. The cave is located right behind the altar where Elder Torntusk is being held. If you wait a bit, you'll see Vile Priestess Hexx walk in and out of the cave mouth.

The egg is in the very back, which is full of 50-51 elites who run when they're about 15% health. With enough DPS, this doesn't matter, but with just me and her... it was a bit hard. o.O There are also a ton of pats wandering around, so just be careful and be prepared for an add.

Right around the egg, there are 3 patrollers: Somethingsomething the Watcher, and 2 guards. We tried fighting them a couple of times before we "cheated" and decided to loot/die. Even then, we had to do it twice before it worked. I rezzed in the eastern corner, as far back as possible. I didn't aggro from there, so I healed and rezzed my friend. I dropped a Stoneclaw totem to pull some aggro, but it didn't last too long, so she feared and I looted. We both died before she finished looting, so the next time I rezzed in the corner, aggroed everything with Chain Lightning, then held them off while she looted. Then we died and spirit rezzed and continued on our way. :)

Did this one last night solo as a 53 Elemental Shaman. Tricky, but not too bad if you take your time and be careful. I'd recommend doing this along with the Vile Princess Hexx quest, since you'll probably have to kill her anyway. As noted below, none of the mobs are elite any more. Make sure your Reincarnation is NOT on cooldown, you want it ready for the end of the cave. Kill any guards and wolves near the entrance, and wait for Hexx to wander out of the cave. Drop a grounding totem incase she casts a polymorph, and interrupt any of her heals, she'll go down fast. Make your way into the cave, take your time and watch for patrols. At the end of the cave, you'll come to the Ancient Egg room. The Egg itself is circled by three trolls (they were all 51 last night). There will be another guard just inside of the egg room (not within aggro range of the three egg guards), and another in a little alcove just left of the egg (you'll see him standing on a "balcony" before you get to the egg room, DON'T pull him from below, as he'll most likely bring some friends). Kill the guard just inside the egg room and the other one in the little alcove/balcony, and heal/drink up fast. Drop your preferred pulling totem combination near the alcove/balcony, and pull the three egg guards. One caster, two melee types (the caster will have a staff ;). I chose to pull the three with a chain lightning cast, targeting the caster, I dropped a Stoneclaw totem to keep the two melees busy while I traded spells with the caster, the totem won't last long so try to kill her fast. The idea here is to kill one of the mobs, and if you're going to die, die outside of aggro range of the egg. When the remaining two guards kill you, they'll run back to the egg, now's your chance to Reincarnate, and quickly heal and drink up. On the next pull you should be able to kill the remaining two guards pretty easily, as there won't be three beating on you. You want to be quick so that the first two guards in the egg room you killed don't respawn. I didn't time their respawns precisely, but it felt like it was about 5 minutes. Grab the egg and Astral Recall out of there.

I got around to doing this at level 56 because I went through ST and couldn't complete it all. I'm also an impatient person, so while my party was getting to the entrance of the city, I was riding through on a mount aggroing everything. I rode straight up to the amphitheater and feigned death, then shadowmelded to regain my health. I then proceeded into the caves, feigning death after a few guys and then shadowmelding. When I got to the egg, I sent Karl, my level 55 bear, to aggro all of them. While he was getting owned I was able to take the egg, feign death and wait about ten seconds before he died. Then I hearthed out and all was good. I've done this for a number of elite quests and post this so people will stop whining that rogues are the only class that can solo elite quests (not necessarily someone from this thread).

By the way, my party got up one flight of stairs in the time it took me to complete the quest.

I was worried about how I was going to do this quest solo with my 53 mage. So last night I run through Jin'Thara and get to the cave. I sit out there hiding and I wait.

Within about 10 minutes a group of 5 horde come along and start battling outside the cave. I take this opportinuty to run into the cave and die at the egg.

Horde comes along wipes the room, they get their eggs and leave. Then I procure my egg and hearth away!

If those horde only knew how they assisted me.

On the fourth try I was in stealth mode and waited for the pat to headnorth west (if looking in at the egg N/W is to the left) once they were on that side I shapeshifted back and hit the egg really quick they didnt notice me until I had already gotten the egg and I tried to sprint as far as could, but ended up dead inside the cave but I got the egg. Tip for those in classic w/o some way to CC the adds. As a Paladin I was able to hide in the corner while the guards patrolled around the egg. Luckily, the rock the egg is perched on blocks line of sight. So wait until the last guard is out of LoS walk up to the egg and loot. You have to get really close to the egg, run forward into the rock until you are able to interact with it. Don't jump. Die to the guards and spirit rez or Bubblehearth out

Just did this solo today with a 50 holy priest. Death hopped my way to the egg room, then rezzed right behind the rock the egg sits on, while the patrol was on the other side. Did not aggro while out of LOS. Clicked the egg and got it before they came around and killed me. Definitely possible with non stealth class if you are willing to die a bunch of times.

I did this solo on a level 52 rogue. Though I'm sure can be done at a lower level. I distracted the group of three out of LOS on the rock, looted the egg from the backside of the rock, and vanished.

Quick and clean.

If you are a rogue and have improved gouge (and probably even without the improved gouge) you can solo this easily. Did it at level 51.

What you need to do is:

- Walk up to the egg in stealth. Easy.
- Now, be careful about that solo elite next to those three elite mobs going around the egg.
- Use your distract ability when those three elites are close to the cave wall not to be bothered by that solo elite mob AND when they are as close to the egg as possible. (You can watch those three elites go around the egg couple of times just to understand their pathing.)
- Even if one of those three elites resists your distract ability, just wait patiently to do it again.
TIP: Before distract, pre-select one of the non-caster mobs (there are 2 non-casters and 1 caster).

Now it all depends on your wrist's agility.

- Stand very close to the egg after distract, which means you should be able to see the "gold" looting icon.
- Sap 1 non-caster mob.
- FAST >> Select the other non-caster mob and blind it.
- FAST >> Gouge the caster.
- VERY FAST >> loot the egg asap after gouge and vanish.

The thing with gouging the caster is, even if she comes out of your gouge before you finished looting, she begins casting something on you so you will have enough time to loot the egg before she ends casting whatever she's casting. Vanish after that.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You may want not to cast vanish instantly after looting, because I'm pretty sure that caster is casting Shadow Word: Pain on you so, your vanish will break out and you may die because of it. You can just wait Shadow Word: Pain debuff to go away with you evasion skill up AND THEN vanish, probably much safer.

How to solo it:
I manage it on lvl 46 with mage 1400hp

Steps:
1: Look on the map, you can see there 2 small lakes 1 cave and 3 building marks and one long road with many serpentines.
2: CAVE on the map is the fake one, do not go there (our cave is not marked on map)
3: Look on the map on the name of the place: Called JINTHA ALOR
4: You need to get on letter N on the map. (do not take a turn on letter T it is next turn)
5: If you are alone then just run with the horse then respawn in a safe place and run again, takes me 1 death.
6: As soon as you are on the bottom of letter N you suppose to see small amphitheatre with an altar in middle and 2 big waterfalls in behind.
7: The cave is right in the middle of waterfalls, like 20 meters from altar.
8: Run to cave if you die just rerun, Egg is in the last room, exactly on coordinates from wowhead. You really can't miss it
9: Now it's a hardest part, takes me 3 deaths to figure out how to do it. The 3 mobs which are patrol around an egg have a phase when they stop for a second, now you need to stand on another side of the egg release and take the egg, if you do it properly you will finish the looting before they attack you. Thanks to Muddbog for his useful comment. You can start looting from the bottom of the rock.

Did this solo as a 52 Warlock. Died a couple times getting to the cave just running by stuff mounted. Once in the cave I summoned a VW and healed up, then had the VW get aggro on everything while i ran by, once his health got low I sacrificed for the bubble and used the nifty stopwatch to sprint to the end. Tried to get a howl of terror off before i died but they dropped me instantly. When I ran back I just hit rez and immediately started casting howl of terror and i was able to loot it. You have to be in melee range of all three mobs next to the egg to fear them so they attack the instant you rez which dropped me to 120 health before i got the 2 second cast off. If that doesn't work you can try using a healthstone or health pot after the rez, then using HoT.

As warrior if you're alone near the egg pull the 4th dude into the 3 patrolling then use your intimidating shout and loot the egg immediately. You'll grab the egg just before they start attacking you again and kill you. :-)

As a level 46 druid I was able to do this solo but I died three times. The first time I died I got too close to one of the elites in the cave and he saw through my stealth. When I resurrected, I made the decision to do it on a cliff inside the cave near the egg even though I knew I would aggro the other elites. So I died again, but I was close to the egg.

The second time I resurrected I was able to find a safe place in the corner to eat and heal up while shadowmelded. I should have gone straight into cat form and stealthed because I can't hold my own against them at this level.

If you watch the 3 elites that patrol around the egg, you'll notice they stop briefly on one side. So I waited on the other side of the egg and as they were about to stop I canceled cat form and right clicked the egg. You have to be really close to the altar to reach it. They continued patrolling and started casting at me as I was collecting the egg but the first attack did not hit me until I already had the egg in my bag. I died almost instantly.

You'll probably want to use auto loot (or hold alt while you click the egg) since they will hit you as soon as the loot window opens.

So much useless information here, unbelievable. The egg is in a cave at the very top of Jintha'Alor. Cave entrance is at 59.05, 78.66 - behind the NPC Vile Priestess Hex, required for the Saving Sharpbeak quest.

The cave is full of lvl 50 - 52 elites. The egg is guarded by a patrol consisting of 3 elites, constantly circling the egg. They never leave.

I managed to solo it as a lvl 52 rogue with improved gouge. Sap one mob, blind the second and gouge the third and quickly loot the egg. Vanish and get out of there. Good luck!

I swear, these vanilla wowhead/thottbot comments should just be wiped, they're hardly every helpful and are mostly just people bragging that they did something

For those that are NOT rogues or locks who cannot just sap or fear: There are 3 level 51 adds circling the egg. Once u rez there, they will immediately come after u and poke u to death. You cant just "grab the egg" as everyone recommended like its some instant action. Its one of those 3 or 4 second casts to collect the egg and once an add hits you, it completely cancels your cast. I assumed it would be this way but after many comments, I started to think otherwise and wasted too much time on this.

This was straightforward as a shaman, just drop StoneClaw for crowd control and pop Shamanistic Rage + Gift of the Naaru to become a god and burn the boss mob. Fire totems would also be useful, but I was lv54 so it wasn't necessary.

I have found that the check quest completion script is no longer working for me. Here's how you fix it.

Add "C_QuestLog." in between the "(" and the "I" in Is

/run print(C_QuestLog.IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(4787))

This works for all quests I've tested it on both complete and incomplete. Simply change the last 4 numbers to match the quest ID you're wanting to check.

Once you make it to the cave where the egg is the 3 mob patrol will walk around the mound where the egg is and stop at 1 point.

If you stand on the opposite side of the mound to them they will not see you and you can just loot the egg.

In SOD, this cave is filled with elite trolls. You can do death runs all the way into the back/top of the cave. If you rez yourself directly next to / behind the central pillar (where the egg is on top), the patrol cannot see you through the pillar if they are on the opposite side, allowing you to quickly loot the egg. Once they notice and murder you, take your rez sickness and bounce.

Given how most of the comments are from rogues, priests, warlocks, etc, ie classes with copious amounts of CC; I managed to solo this after a few tries as a level 52 paladin. You cannot ninja the egg using Divine Shield or Blessing of Protection, you will get the “You can’t do that while you are immune” error. Instead, it's best to die and place your spirit on the south-west side of the mound with the egg. The patrol will circle the egg, never leaving, but will pause on the north-east side. You will want to ress just before they pause, this should give you enough time to channel (which is about six seconds iirc) with some leeway to adjust position if you're too far away to click (you shouldn't need to be on the mound: beside it should be enough). After that you can die and accept resurrection sickness, or bubble-hearth.
