Pretty simple quest.

The Mire Lord fungus and Shadow Panther hearts are easy drops off of regular mobs in the Swamp of Sorrows. The Mire Lord is located in the cave at the North Western end of Misty Valley (coordinates 5,31). The Panther's can be found along the edge of the Shadowmurk and the Misty Reed Strand, they are stealthed however so they may be difficult to find without something to boost your detection.

The Deepstrider Tumor can be gotten off of the Elite Giants in Desolace. They aren't too difficult and the most reliable place to find the is in the ocean just south of Ethel Rethor, near the Drysnap Crawlers. Easy to combo this part of the quest with hunting for the keys.

Turn it in for some amusing dialogue, then deliver the poison to Stonard for some easy XP.

This quest took me a while, but mainly because I was doing other stuff at the same time.

The fungus was easy - I stealthed to his cave and killed him, first time drop on his body.

The panthers were a pain, the drop rate seems to be about 30% for the hearts, and I found that only one or two spawn at a time in the area where they are.

The giant was also a pain, spent about 2 hours looking for one. Eventually, I gave up and decided to do some fishing off Satheriss Strand, and he appeared right on top of me! Got the tumour first time.

For those of you hunting the giant, I suggest go down to the Strand and wait there. Kill some of those pesky Nagas or go fishing to pass the time. Eventually a giant will spawn there - I think it must be the start of his path, and/or the spawn is triggered, so it seems like the best place to pick one up.

Shadow Panthers can be found from 73,8 to about 91,50 just follow the long path and use nearest target button and then they won't be hard to find :)

Side note about the mosntrou crawlers . .make sure you turn in Lak of surplus first because it has anotehr part you'l want to do at the same time.

also if you can avoud the murlocs do because as well all know they love to gank and they are 42-44

Well.. finding the panthers are easiest thing to do if you know how to do correctly.

Just create a Macro /target shadow

and keep on press the new macro while you walk along the way. you can easily get them even you can't see them by eyes

Just a fair warning...this quest takes FOOOORRREVVER...the panthers are hard to find and can be found edge of the Shadowmurk and the Misty Reed Strand. The Mire Lord Fungus is found in a cave to the north west. As for the Deep Strider Tumor you have to kill an elite allll the way back in Desolace. This quest is not worth the time it takes...skip it

I found the quest was easy, no need to leave the swamp, the Green Whelp Blood was picked up at Itharius's Cave(13,59) from the Dreaming Whelp. Just head south after getting the fungus.

I do believe that the quest has been modified as of late - a tumor is no longer required, and instead some green whelps. Interestingly enough, as a level 44 this quest shows up in my log as yellow but the Whelps are gray for me.

Here is a quick tip for those trying to get the hearts:

Go to the Misty Reed Strand and make a macro /target shadow panther, then simply walk/ride your choice, up and down the strand until you find them. I was also able to complete "Fresh Meat" and "Lack of Surplus" as I gathered the hearts.

If you have trouble finding the panthers just hunt around the Misty Reed Strand. The best way to spot them is when you hear the sound of them going into stealth and stop and look around, you'll see them. As for the Green Whelp blood its got a low drop rate, so keep at it.

I would only do this quest for the amusement value. The time it takes to get the panther hearts plus the travel back and forth pretty much makes this one not good exp for the time invested.

Regarding the Shadow Panthers, I found schatz's comments very accurate. Many Shadow Panthers can be found along the eastern edge of the map, from Fallow Sanctuary down to Misty Reed Strand. I also found the Shadow Panther Heart drop rate was very low so it took me a while to collect 5 of them.

I finished this quest just the other day with no problems.
Mire Lord dropped after 1 kill.

Shadow Panthers are a bit elusive and a bit annoying to hunt, but I stuck to the northern tip of SOS as someone else suggested. I probably killed 10-15 of them to get the 5 hearts.

Deepstrider Tumor dropped after 1 kill. I killed a Deepstrider Searcher off the coast near the shipwreck just before the nagas. One is usually there.

The end of the quest is quite amusing and Undead and Orc characters can both appreciate it.

found it on the first giant i killed.(yes I'm lucky) He was at the three way intersection between the town and the centaurs. Wandered into my path so i killed him and realized he dropped a quest item. Go figure, huh?

I killed the mire lord as a 39 mage and got the item on 1 kill. Killed about 9 Shadow panthers and got 5 hearts. Went to Desolace, and after 10 min of searching found a 39 elite giant and I soloed him quite easy as a 39 frost mage :)

I'll update this when I finish this but here's how my quest has gone so far.

I flew out to Stonard, mounted up and rode to the cave in Misty Valley, coords 7,32 or the top left of your SoS map, just doged the inconsequential mobs there because I'm level 48, and went straight for the mire lord. Only mob in the shallow cave. Easy. 100% drop rate on the fungus.

Next, mounted up again and started running through the islands toward the shore to the west. Didn't find any Shadow Panthers until I hit the stretch of land above the shore, all 39 and 40. My advice is to hit /m, set up a macro of /target Shadow Panther. Just run around and keep hitting it until you get a Shadow Panther. Makes things a lot easier. Drop rate was great for me ;]. 56% or 5 out of 9 panthers. Seemed to get more off the 40s. But I kinda aimed for those since I didn't get any xp from the 39s.

Oh, and by the way, on your way back to Stonard from the shore, I ran into a bunch of 45 dragonkin and was like, hm, never noticed that-OHMYGOD-and I was attacked by a level ? elite dragon, Somnus. Lol. So yeah, watch out for the Pool of Tears, haha.

If you're not a hunter, create this macro:
/tar deep
Now just run around Desolace on your mount spamming it. As soon as a Deepstrider is near, you'll target it. This is a good strategy in general for finding rare units if you can't track them.

Shadow Panther Hearts: LOC 78,90 to 75,7 all along the coast in Swamp of Sorrows but can be found all over. They are stealthed so look for them. Panthers are level 38 to 40.

Mire Lord Fungus: 7.5,31.7 there is one located in a cave in Misty Valley, Swamp of Sorrows northwest part of map. Level 42

Deepstrider Tumor: 46,15 in Desolace. This is from other posters in another thread stating just to camp that spot and within 10 minutes he comes walking by. I got mine off a Deepstrider Searcher @ that location. Level 40 elite

Return the quest to Apothecary Faustin in Darkshire at LOC 87,35

Blizzard changed elite quests to make them normal quests. It used to have a part in it where you had to kill elites in Desolace, but it has been replaced by a non elite mob.

For panthers: You can't really go by coords here, i just went to the top of the swamp bordering the beach, mounted up, turned speakers up, TV turned down, and zig zagged down the coastline listening for stealth. Worked much better than trying to run around by coords.

i got really lucky, had quest done in bout 30 mins.

Fungus was ofcourse easy, top left corner.. in cave.

There are few dreaming whelps compared to the adolescent whelps in the bottom left corner, but still didn't take meh very long.

And the panthers are along the coast line to the east, got all 5 hearts in bout 10 kills, also i am a hunter so tracking made it easier. XD

This is a time consuming quest, and you will get frustrated after killing 30 panthers without one heart.

I wish that blizzard would understand that quests like this are NOT fun! They should make a 100% drop rate for all quest items in the game, period! If they want to make it more challenging, then they should add the number of quest items that you need, not decrease the drop rate. There is nothing more frustrating than spending hours killing the same monsters and not get that quest item that you need. This is a game and it's supposed to be fun and challenging. The only challenge now is to be able to control yourself and not throw your computer out the window after spending a whole afternoon trying to find some quest item without results.

dont know when the quest was changed, but it now requires

no mention of deepstriders or tumors anymore.

This quest can be a pain. Thank god for quest helper. The Shadow panthers is what proved to be the hardest because of the low drop rate. As a hunter, track beasts helped a lot.

as many others have said, this quest is horrible. I spent two days killing deepstriders, offering 50s in general chat to anybody who found one for me.

took about 30 kills for it to finally drop.

by the way, there are 3 deepstrider spawns, and they can be spawned simultaneously. one walks from the coast off of shadowprey, north through the pass between ghostwalker and valley of spears, across the area north of ghostwalker, then south all the way to mannoroc coven.

the others spawn in the veiled sea. one walks on the largest island and on the main land a little, the other one walks behind thunder axe, near sargeron etc. you can tell the paths they walk from the sightings map here on allakhazam.

if you're mentally ill like I am, and absolutely must to the quest, know that it will probably take you a long time. offer people money for sightings, recruit friends to help spot them (saves a ton of time), and spend some time knowing which are dead and which have spawned, so you don't waste your time on a path that's unoccupied at the moment.

Sit and wait for about 10 minutes on the coast at 35,27. He wanders the most around at this part of Desolace. The giant came out of the water. Best spot to get him but be patience! Time to get it: really 10 minutes. Do be crazy to travel all around Desolace. Just wait at this spot!

The Mire Lord is in Swamp of Sorrows, 7,31 and/or on the far left side, way north. He's past all of the other swamp creatures and inside of a cave. Only one of him, got the fungus first try.

I must hae killed that giant 15 times without a tumor drop. This is a royal PITA. It wouldn't be so bad you didn't have to search all over for him and if he didn't ahve such a long respawn time. This is a complete waste of time. You can get more exp in the time it takes to complete this and the loot isn't worth it.

You guys all did this the hard way. These giants are often found in the water. I swam about 5 min up the north coast and then dived.. there was the giant and i got the tumor off him...Was an easy battle with 47 shaman....Have fun guys

I had no problem with this. I was hunting panthers for skins. Then I got the fungus and tumour on 1st kills. Walked right up to both bosses. Easy-peasy.

Had no issue with this quest at all. Feel sorry for those of you that did/do.

Found the panthers in the northeastern/eastern part of Swamp. Killed like 15 total.

Found the Mire Lord, he dropped with ease. Fungus on first drop.

Just happenned to be in Desolace helping a friend, and the damn giant came after me. Dropped the tumor, practically handed it to me.

The shadow panthers are on the East side, just to the other side of the beach, i suggest walking, i did it at lvl 48 for rep and had a hard time seeing the stealthed panthers. Here are a few co-ords i found panthers...

this is the quest why people bought their 2nd monitor. You must camp for Giant. Panther heart drop rate is lower than legendary drop rate in Legion if you can find a panther and funny thing: what you collect is you heart. It's not humor, it's just trolling players.

I believe this quest captures the very essence of Classic WoW questing experience.
It is hidden in a ridiculous place within enemy territory, so there is almost no chance you will encounter it naturally.
If you do, you have to pass through a high-level zone in order to reach Swamp of Sorrows for the Fungus.
Panthers are even further away, the droprate of Hearts is bad, and there is an elite dragon in the area that will kill you in two hits.
And the icing on the cake, the Tumor. You literally have to go to the other side of the world to kill an elite mob which wanders around, and even then it is not a guaranteed drop.
Your reward, mighty hero?
A cloak with spirit, or a mace with stamina. Both so painfully average that simply glancing at the quest rewards will make you turn around and leave.
However...
If you manage to do it all, you will witness a funny event in Stonard.
That's the real reward.
Worth it.

Just tried getting a Green Whelp Blood and then finally gave up after an hour And that's without any competition. I recommend skipping this quest, cause it's not worth your time.

i tried very hard to get this quest and killed plenty panthers, I'm on nightslayer pvp and believe this quest is completely bugged after two days farming the heart. just abandon and move one,

For this concoction I will need several Shadow Panther hearts from the Swamp. I also require the enchanted fungus off of the Mire Lord who resides there. I am sure one as able as you, <nombre>, can persuade him to part with some.

The last item I'll need for the serum is the blood of a dreaming whelp, like the ones that live outside Itharius' cave in the swamp.
