This quest is currently badly bugged. The flying machine doesn't actually go UP, it just moves in a specific direction, which makes it easy to get yourself permanently stuck (barring having a flying mount) in the various crevices in the area. Not recommended to try this if your hearth is down.

As of 10/9/08 it seems to be working. The flying machine doesn't behave like a flying mount. Rather, it goes forward in the direction it is pointed. So, pressing space doesn't make you go straight up, but tilts the plane upward, and the plane goes forward and up. If you need to 'back up' you have to turn around in place and then go forward.

Aside from that, it's a great deal of fun to destroy gargoyles in aerial combat.

My new favorite daily quest! Granted, I've only done 3 in Northrend so far. :) Using the rockets will attack multiple gargoyles nearby, and the machine gun will repeatedly fire on the same target no matter which direction you're facing.

It seems to bug out for some and not others. I was able to do it as a non daily, but now it's bugged, and even dropping the quest and picking it back up, the plane still drops to the bottom like a rock.

Edit after going to the bottom twice, abandoning it between, I decided to not abandon it and try once more. This time before I took off, I hit forward for a second, then stopped, hit forward again, and stopped, then hit jump so the plane would tilt up, and it took off upwards, so I knew it was working properly. Not sure what it was that fixed it but maybe those steps will help someone else out too?

Press spacebar immediately after you enter, before you move or do anything, and you should be able to fly. After that, just fly around, target gargoyles and use either of your two abilities to shoot them down.

You actually get experience if you down gargoyles in the plane, which is nice.

This the f***ing funny quests ever.
You can target horde NCP and kill them (they are verry close from the point you get the quest).
They will atack you too but don't worry...you will not take that much damage.
I will recomand you all to try this quest (and shoot the horde NPC with rockets ).
You can't atack horde players.

Though it goes grey by level 80, if you're looking to increase your Explorers' League reputation, it's currently the only daily quest available. It does give full reputation at 80, and continues all the way to 999/1000 Exalted, but the gold reward is less than most other dailies.

You may loot the gargoyles you've killed with the plane, but only after you've dismounted. I usually fly to the north of Steel Gate, near the Horde NPCs, and kill the gargoyles as they fly in. They're in tighter formation and usually don't land in the pit itself when they die, which makes for easier looting.

As of 3.0.8 the slow, clunky plane has been replaced by a faster and more agile 'copter.

This quest has always been easy and fun, but now a change has come to the Fjord. For those of us who have been doing it every single day... change is good, at least this one is anyway. Enjoy!

There is a high chance that the new Jewelcrafting recepies for epic gems will come from either the Frostborn or Explorer's League, so if you're a JC and want to get a head start before Ulduar and the 3.1 patch I recommend doing these dailies. Starting with honored or revered could very well make you the most popular player on your server.

2 small things to note:

Although the Flying machine has some 20k+ health, your own health will be the one that matters whether you die or not. Especially when you're doing this quest in low-level, you should keep this in mind. Example: If your character has 10'000 HP, if the machine drops under 10k HP below its maximum, you will die.
One missle barrage and one full cycle of machine gun will kill 1 Gargoyle. Good to know for single targets.

Killing the gargoyles isn't too bad for a little bit of exp either. One thing i noticed is that if you keep flying around in circles or keep moving whilst shooting the gargoyles, their gargoyle strikes will generally miss you. Their ranged attacks will travel to the position they were facing when they began csating, they won't follow you like most spell casts or other ranged attacks do. This makes it possible, if you choose to, to kill them all whilst getting away virtually scratch free.

The fastest way to do this quest seems to be 'aoe farming' the gargoyles. If you manage to get the moment when the whole wave of them is approaching from the north, fire your rockets into the biggest cluster to aggro them, then fire a couple shots from the machine gun at additional gargoyles to pull them till you're sure you have 8 on you. During this time move in a wide circle around the gargoyles a bit outside their range to group them up so they are all hit by the rocket volley. 3 volleys should finish the whole group. Use machine gun to lower the health of any gargoyles that joined the group later than the rest so they do not require additional volleys - no need to actually finish individual gargoyles with the gun between volleys, it will not save you any time.

Easy quest, and the fun begins after u kill all the gargoiles, i went to the horde side and started killing all npcs using the machine gun and missiles.... lol now im doing this quest daily :P

Make some extra G with this quest! Kill as many gargoyles as you can before your flying machine dies on you (keep going even after you get your required "8"). Run down into the quarry and loot the corpses for banded and prismatic stone (AND your occasional green item drop!) I make at least 2g each time from this!

Also, fire cluster rockets at areas where gargoyles are close together. Yes, you will aggro them all, but keep shooting and they all will die in one big mass. This gives you your numbers and makes looting easier (as they fall right next to one another!)

This quest appears to "secretly" give Frostborn rep too, as today I got "You are now Revered with The Frostborn" upon turning it in. I think that this is new to 3.3 but can't say for sure.

Not sure if it was a fluke but today when turing in "The Enemy" which is an AT quest I got 68 rep with the Explorers League. I am already Exalted with the Argent Crusade and have been for awhile so Im not sure if this is new in 3.3. Will try again tomorrow but if it is finally something else to build the rep!

very easy flying just point and shoot over the other fliers... fly back and forth to damage them very fast 4 gold you ever make. If you have problem flying up turn off addons... don't fly out of range you crash and burn hope you have a bubble if you do.

For me the easiest way to control the plane is to click both mouse buttons to control direction and then fire with the 123 keys or whatnot...

this way u always have control over where u are aiming and u don't have to actually click the buttons...

Specifically for me if the plane acts weird, disabling Questhelper is what fixed it.
