Like Pane said don't look at "your" healthbar, but rather your "pet's health," which is Teron.

Use Death and Decay as much as possible. Like all AoE the enemy must be directly in the AoE for it to do damage. It ticks for quite a lot of damage. So if you cast it and he's not taking damage, move him to the AoE until he does.

Other than that, lifesteals gives you just about full health every time. Using Unholy Armor whenever you can helps too. Whenever you'r D&D is on cooldown, moving around helps reduce damage.

This chain begins differently depending on whether you're Alliance (A) or Horde (H):

Alliance - starts in Wildhammer Stronghold from Zorus the Judicator:
1. (A) A Ghost in the Machine
2. (A) Harbingers of Shadowmoon
3. (A) Teron Gorefiend - Lore and Legend

Horde - starts in Shadowmoon Village from Chief Apothecary Hildagard:
1. (H) A Haunted History
2. (H) Spectrecles
3. (H) Teron Gorefiend - Lore and Legend

At this point the chain splits into three parts which can be done in any order (and by both factions):
4a. Divination: Gorefiend's Cloak
4b. Divination: Gorefiend's Truncheon
4c. Divination: Gorefiend's Armor

After collected Gorefiend's stuff and returned it to the spirit, you will get:
5. (A) Teron Gorefiend, I am...
5. (H) Teron Gorefiend, I am...

For this final quest, Gorefiend becomes your "pet" and you control him using a pet bar. Having used him to kill Karsius, you return to Zorus or Hildagard to claim your reward. Choose from:
Evoker's Helmet of Second Sight (cloth DPS headpiece)
Stealther's Helmet of Second Sight (leather melee headpiece)
Druidic Helmet of Second Sight (leather magical headpiece)
Stalker's Helmet of Second Sight (mail +AP headpiece)
Shamanistic Helmet of Second Sight (mail +dmg headpiece)
Overlord's Helmet of Second Sight (plate DPS headpiece)

Realize that when you accept this quest it will start in about 5-10 seconds. Just enough time to mount and fly away (as I did not realize lol) so then it whips ya off your mount and back to the spot where you begin fight. When its over it put you back where you were... in my case mid-air with no mount. *grin*

He has a "Haste" ability, but don't try to use it. It is on cooldown when he appears. If you wait until the ability is ready, your target will despawn.

Very easy; just enter melee with Karsius and use every "pet" ability as they become available. Put the AoE on your enemies feet, drain his life and shield as much as possible... no real strategy needed. You can finish this with near full health.

I dismissed my imp and unmounted before trying this, not sure if it was required but didn't want to break anything.

If you do have difficulties with this quest you have a healer aoe heal Teron Gorefiend, Priest Prayer of Healing comes to mind but even a Druid Tranquility works. Don't try to single target heal though he's an invalid target.

They must have changed it from very easy.. I was there and had to do it 3 times, and several other people failed as well. I was doing all the skills too .. not sure. In the end it was whether you got the last life steal spell off or died .. it was close ;)

I found that as a shaman my totems would buff gorefiend, so throw them before teh event starts. also works for people in your grp

Took a few tries, but here's what worked best for me (and my group):

1. Start with the AoE/DoT spell.
2. Follow immediately with the lifesteal spell.
3. Use Unholy Armor and lifesteal spell everytime they become available.
4. Done.

I found that aside from opening the fight the AoE/DoT costs too much time. And I recommend using the lifesteal spell right at the beginning for a reason: not to heal yourself, but to do a good deal of damage.

If you lose the fight, simply abandon the quest and retake it.

I just did this quest. Barely lost any life. Just kept using the CD's as they came up. VERY easy fight. Don't even need a group for it. I solo'd this very easily.

The way I did this quest was pop haste right away and unholy armor right at the start, just start autoattacking and using unholy armor and touch of darkness everytime they were up, I never used death and decay.

Teron Gorefiend only went down to about 75% hp because I would always get healed up full from touch of darkness.

I read a couple times that if the death coil move gets resisted even once its over. This isn't true though because I just completed the quest with 2 death coil resists in a row. So I just wanted to make that clear..

As a hunter if you start the quest while mounted, then fail the quest you will now be mounted with your pet out. Pretty cool bug, reminds me of the old days before they changed that.

Probably works with warlocks too, but I haven't tested that.

it should be noted that you can still be ganked while transformed and fighting the dreanai dude
i had a rogue attack me and kill me while i was doing this quest, thankfully i finished the quest just before he killed me, but it was still a major pain
so just keep an eye out before you start the quest and hope for the best while doing it, just wish i could have used some of the abilities they give you on him, maybe i could, didn't get the chance to find out tho

If you are bringing a healer to help out that does not need the quest, they do not need goggles. In fact, without the goggles equipped, you will not be in combat and free to drink when you need mana. Your party will take damage, but you will not even see the dragon.

I did this a few days ago on my priest when I forgot my helm.

You must right this wrong. After all, it is your fault. Take one of these helmets. They are each infused with the ever-burning ash that you retrieved for me. More importantly, they will allow you to see the ghosts of Shadowmoon, including Teron Gorefiend.

But you don't need either spectables or helmet to see Teron Gorefiend.. Why is this?

It's soloable. In fact you have to solo it.

You will lose control of your character and be taken into Gorefiend's body (he will be like a pet). You must kill the boss with Gorefiend, and if he dies you phail.

It's relatively easy. Start off by casting the absorb spell, then cast the AoE/DoT spell on him. Continue regular attacks, using the haste buff whenever possible.

Once Teron (You) is down to about 3/4 health, use the health absorb attack.

From here, continue to use the haste buff and the damage shield. Every time the AoE/DoT attack comes up, use it, as well as the life drain. If you keep up life drains and damage shields, and always use some sort of attack, it's an easy kill.

I discovered a weird bug when doing this quest as a ret paladin. Because I suck, Krasus killed Teron. He then began attacking me--except I was still a little ball of light. I was "pacified" and unable to attack. However, Krasus had only 7k hp left and proceeded to kill himself on my ret aura. He died when I was at only 85% hp (he only hit me for like 150 damage/hit), and I got the credit for the kill. Very convenient.

Essentially, all you really have to do is turn on auto attack, and use every attack when it comes off of cooldown, extremely simple >_>

The Apothecary asks you to kill Teron if you see him again, and the map does show him at other locations... does he wander around the whole zone?

If you use any barmods that hides the petbar (i.e. Trinty Buttons/Bars) you won't be able to use any of the abilities as he shows up as a pet. Same if you have a pet out, it "bugs" because you can't see his abilities to use them. Just make sure you dismiss pets if you have them and turn on the petbar if you have it hidden.

At first I did not understand this quest and I thought it was bugged. Here is how I completed it...

I spoke to the quest giver and was morphed in to Teron Gorefiend. Then, TURN AROUND (if you are facing the quest giver, you wont see who you are supposed to fight). I made the mistake of not turning around and for the longest, I was trying to attack the guy on the blue dragon.

Once you turn around, you will see him. Make sure to use your buff (the 1st of the 4 square skill boxes) and use your attack (ctrl-1). Dont use the lifestealing skill until you are just a bit OVER 50% health. It will fill about half your bar so you dont want to waste it when you have more then 50% health. If you wait until your health is 50% and you start using the lifestealing, you should just be able to sail through this guy using the regular attack, and also the other skills.

I am a lvl 70 Lock.

The first time I was mounted and had my pet out so nothing worked. I abandoned the quest and still had to stand around until the silence ran out...5 minutes. What a PITA.

The 2nd go was simple. Follow the instructions above. Also, he doesn't attack you, so you have time to check out your skill bar. Read what everything does before attacking and the fight will be simple and quick.

Might bug with the spellsteal if you have a modified interface bar...like I do have Bartender3 and I couldn't see the spell...

Its supposed to be the second one in the actionbar u can steal 5000 hps from your target...

Quest does bug however for Locks if you have a minion summoned. He wont possess you and Karsius will stay green. (At least, thats what happened to me)

On TBC Anniversary and it was impossible for our group to win this fight fairly. Seemed like incoming damage was hitting almost twice as hard as previous classic release. We resorted to kiting Karsius off the hill behind where you start the fight to create distance during CDs until he's low enough to finish off "fairly".

Looking at older videos and this fight looks very easy in comparison.

Not trying to plug my own video, but this is how I did it. Fight is definitely overtuned on TBC anniversary. Never saw anyone beat it after standing there for a few hours.

Managed to kill after many many attempts after we got hunter to try frost trap before accepting quest. Frost trap worked and we killed him by kiting around pillar.

March 2026, TBC Anniversary - I tried the strats listed below and was not having success, mostly because when I spammed abilities on cooldown, I ran out of mana. Mana does NOT appear to regenerate at all, so you're left powerless. Also, the "attack" ability doesn't appear to work. So, what I did was the following:

1. Start the fight with D&D - keep it up throughout
2. Lifesteal upon cooldown
3. Use the shield ability sparingly; if you don't, you'll go OOM

The margin of victory was very little, but it was enough to complete the quest.

This might be the worst designed quest in wow history. Why the hell haven't they fixed the quest sharing with escorts yet? This is just pathetically bad how people just constantly take the quest too early before everyone has even turned in and then only one person fights. Utterly asinine.
