As of the current build, Champions are quite tough, they'll have 2 stacks of shield on at least 80% of the fight and 50% of the time they'll put up a 3rd stack up again right after you break one. Fortunately, it is possible to cheat. Any friendly players right now can attack the champions as if they were a regular mob as soon as you engage the champions and it will completely ignore them while you can just keep your shield up and finish it off.

Talking immediately tags it for you so it doesn't matter if you hit it or not first, however, you won't get anything if you don't deal the killing blow.

These are no harder than the valiants it just takes a little longer, the simplest way I've found that works for all races (so far) is as follows:

1) Full shields
2) Start fight
3) Shield Breaker
4) Ride towards enemy quickly
5) Thrust
6) Top up shields
7) When he breaks off to charge, follow steps 3 to 6 again.

It takes a little while but so far I've managed 4 in a row with over 2/3'rds health left on my mount.

For an easier, if less honourable, way of doing this quest, have a tank taunt the champion off you and then just use shield breaker and charge to your heart's content.

Very handy for those that can't get the hang of it, have laggy connections... or are just lazy ;)

Found a pretty effective non-cheat way that seems to work on all the jousting, using it I beat all 4 champions and the 3 valiants I needed for my 2nd Valiant set in about 12 minutes all in all. Like the guy above mentioned, don't EVER start the fight without being at full shields or you'll get a huge chunk of disadvantage slammed your way. As soon as the fight starts, the opponent will immediately move away from you, but you have time to get a quick thrust in (yeah it'll only do about 300 damage but you'll notice something important about it). Right after he moves away, strafe to the side and slightly back while spamming 2 for Shield Break, as soon as it shoots out, keep strafing and Charge, here's where I found something that helps. Thrust is on a separate cooldown from the other 3 abilities, so as soon as you activate Charge, keep spamming Thrust. This guarantees that you'll be getting an extra thrust in before your opponent raises his shield to max again. As soon as that thrust connects, keep spamming 4 and 1 to top up your shields while repeatedly jabbing your lance in his face. Wait til he runs away then repeat. (btw I say spam because I have an average of 500-1000 ms latency at all times so it just makes timing easier for me :p

So to summarize.

1. Start with full shields
2. When opponent runs, strafe to use Shield Breaker.
3. Charge AND thrust at the same time (this is the key)
4. Keep thrusting his face (ok that sounds bad) and topping up shields til he runs again.
5. Rinse and repeat.

Here is the best strat I know of;

When done correctly, each fight will last 45 seconds to 1 minute and you will have 75-85% health at the end.

1. Full shields. (duh)
2. Start fight BEHIND the Champion. This way when he runs out, he will be directly in front of you.
3. Charge.
4. At the end of the charge hold your right mouse button and tilt your camera so you come around the champion in a tight loop, all while spamming shield breaker. If done correctly you will have a small window which you can throw your lance before you come back into melee range directly in front of the champion. (Note: this is the hardest part to hold off correctly, just keep practicing to figure out the right distance.)

If the above steps are done correctly the champions will end up a 1 shield, and directly in front of you. From here on out, just use Thrust and wait for them to walk out again, repeating steps 2-4 when they do. If you can pull off the above steps correctly 2 times in a row or more, the enemy will be sitting with no shields for upwards of 10+ seconds per thrust chain.

Also remember to refresh your shields occasionally, as the Champion may never take down your shield themselves, and it will expire naturally. :P

NOTE: Sometimes the enemy will get off a Charge or Shield Breaker on you, or maybe even both. This is ok! Just refresh your shields, and keep to the above strat. There is no need to sacrifice the above strat to keep your shields max, but if you really must just walk beside the enemy until your are full. It will take some extra time, but you will be extremely safe.

Is it just me or do they remove 2 shields from us at a time, because I start with 3 get hit once and I'm down to one. Or I'll put on 2 get hit once and have none

If you have yellow or worse connection, give up or cheat. When connection gets bad for me, 80% of your moves will trigger cooldown but do nothing. Do it when your roommates are out.

They are pretty easy, when you practice a bit.

If u notice, you don't have to be very far away in order to use your shield-breaker

What I like to do is:

1. Strafe away from my opponent
2. When I am just the right distance away I can throw a shield-breaker
3. Run back to the opponent after the shield-breaker, thrust his face and run through him
4. After running through him, I keep running until I can shield-break again and run through him again :]

This is a quick way to break down the npc's armor, and if you see the npc start running away from you, you can either charge through him and thrust him once the charge connects, or if you prefer, throw another shield-breaker and thrust him in the face once again.

P.S. I hope I don't sound sexist...not all champions are male lol

Anyone know how to get this to open up? I go over to where she is but she does not have a quest. I'm champion level and have been doing the other champion quests for Ebon Blade. Do you have to be champion of your faction (ally or horde) before she gives the quest? Trying to get this so I can work on my argent crusade reputation as I want some stuff from them.

Here is what I do to finish my jousting dailys for another day.

1.Go to the water vendor and buy Honey Mead's (50 Copper each) to fill up your bags(Normally I buy 20 at a time and shift click them to unstack into singles to fill my bag slots)

2. Go do the daily(s) (Champion / Valiant Seals, both work)
*Note: if you are doing it right you will get a error message saying your inventory is full but don't worry they will be mailed to you*

3. Go sell / delete your Honey Mead's to make 2 open bag slots and go do your jousting again and hand in the quest(s).
*Note: you may have to go clear your bested debuffs so you can go do them again depending on how long it yook you to do the daily(s), what I do is take off all my gear and fly up and unmount to crater and die so I can loose my debuffs, other classes may have other ways to get rid of them such as mages Ice Block*

4. Go to your mailbox and get your seals for tomorrow! (Since they are unique(3/4) you can only hold 3 valiant and 4 champions in your backpack at a time, but when they are mailed to you they last 24 hours in the mail)

So if you're a DK, she will never have a quest for you? Well that sucks as it's hard as heck to get rep with Argent Crusade and I need at least revered with them for a piece of armor and an enchant item. So much for gearing up so I can go into the ToC when it hits. *sigh*

This is the quest-giver you are looking for.

She starts following quests (equivalent of this quest, available only for DKs):

Among the Champions (Alliance version)
Among the Champions (Horde version)

Whoever thought up this Jousting daily quest wants firing out of a cannon. Or at the very least flicking repeatedly on the nose with a wet towel.

While jousting works well in some situations, in this particular quest it does not. Criticisms include...

Poor performance on even moderate latency 150-200
A willingness and even habit for the NPC to roam far out of the arena area
A large number of scenery objects around the arena to get caught up on
As well as the usual bad Blizzard/WoW melee/range handling "facing the wrong way" "out of range" etc etc.
On top of all that, they make you defeat FOUR! Champions - it is almost as if they know how crap the quest is and they wish to rub salt in the wound

In the unlikely event that a Blizzard quest programmer reads this, Among the Champions (and Among the Valliants) should be used as a case study example of how to program virtually everything wrong in a quest.

Every other daily at the Argent Tournament is enjoyable and fun to complete, but this quest is the one bad apple.

Murlocs' no fail strategy for Among the Champions.

(1)- Start with full shield buff (Hotkey 4). This will take about 12 seconds to apply.
(2)- Upon engaging do not worry about charge or melee. Your foe starts with full shield and both these abilities will do trivial damage.
(3)- Let them get a little bit of space from you and use shield breaker (2) then immediately move through them and use melee (1).
(4)- Keep circling them with tight circles that are just far enough for shield breaker, but not far enough to allow an opponent to charge. (If you let the enemy champions charge you a few times, you will very likely lose)
(5)- Rinse and repeat step 3.

You'll have to practice this a bit adjusting for your latency to get a feel for the exact range at which the shield breaker will shoot. Just remember, the only important thing is that you always combo shield breaker and melee. They don't share a global cooldown and by keeping tight to your foe, you should never take more than 10% damage the entire fight.

Tip: Don't waste cooldowns renewing your shield. If you are spamming shield renew, you are either paranoid, or letting them charge you.

Tip 2: The enemy champions will deliberately run far to try to charge you. Just keep tight to them and keep shield breaking. If you dont let them charge, you won't lose.

Bear in mind this strategy is lower total damage than utilizing charges, but if you charge them, you will inevitably get charged too, and often will lose which makes your overall completion time much higher than just shield break/melee strategy.

What is it with these guys despawning in the middle of a match? Today, I had three of them despawn, one just I just about had him defeated. The other two were when I had a substantial health advantage over them. It means I've essentially lost that match and have to start another one, wasting much time. This seems to happen at least every other day with one or more.

And also, if the champion leaves the ring, why do I get the "out of ring" debuff and forcibly dismounted? The only real way to win against these guys, especially on a laggy server, is to stay in their faces. Yet they leave the ring and I'm now open to their charge and shield breaker. So I lose either way. More than half the matches, they wander directly out of the ring.
edit: I'm starting to notice that the worst lag comes from when the champion drags you into the snow during the fight. In the grounds, the lag is tolerable. In the snow, the frame rate may go down to 1fps or worse, during that time the champion is pulling all sorts of stuff on your essentially non-moving toon. Snow is nice and pretty, but it's also hard to draw. So many of you complaining (justifiably) of "cheating" on the part of the champion may be seeing lag and frame rate issues.

Don't bother with this quest during a laggy server time. Mine, Azjol-Nerub, seems to have a serious lag issue in the morning, although it's fine in the evening.

I know so many people have contributed various systems to finish these guys off and they do work for the most part. If no-one doesn't mind, I'd like to add to this already glorious list.

1. Always top up your shields to 3 before starting the battle.
2. Get BEHIND the person you wish to fight. Getting behind them allows you to cast 2 shield breakers before the battle even fully gets underway.
3. Spam the "2" button (shield breaker) as much as you can after you've started the fight. You should easily be able to get 2 off.
4. Getting these 2 off means that the opponent only has 1 shield. Use this to your advantage and melee the champion as much as you can.
5. Back off slightly and keep yourself within line of sight, but angled so that it gives you some distance away from the champion. If you're a good hunter, you'll know how to do this.
6. Cast shield breaker, the champ should have 1 shield typically.
7. Close the gap again and melee.
8. Keep your shields topped up at all times. Having 2 shields while the opponent has 3 is a bad idea, but having 2 while the opponent has 1 or 0 is not bad at all.
9. Rinse and repeat 5-8

This quest is much easy then most think,

also, i've foudn a better "strategy" then any of those posted above,

simply, make a macro with the following script:

/cast Thrust
/cast Shield-Breaker
/cast Charge

all those free dont share a GCD ( although they do with the defand, which is weird)

after making that macro, place it in a quickslot which isnt on your normal primary one ( the one being replaced) and keybind it. (comment -keybind only tested with Bartender's keybind)

so, the fight can be like that - raise up your defand to 3 shields, and engage in fight with someone,

now, just spam the macro.
every time you charge turn around to your opanent, and keep spamming,

dont forget to refresh your defends, ofc.

if it doesnt work with this macro, jsut remember that you can spam hit 2+3 ( shield breaker + charge) when the opanent disengages, and when you're close enough jsut spam 1.

I see most posts here emphasize the Charge and Shieldbreaker abilities. I don't see Thrust mentioned a lot.

If you are having trouble getting them down, remember to also use Thrust as often as possible. Looking at my Recount it does about 60% (!) of the total damage.
