I wonder what Ivan was going to say in the completion text? There's one particular questline involving an item that begins with Sc (the Scythe of Elune). I wonder if this is a hint that plot will continue.

This is part of a very long quest chain.
Part 1 (Into Grizzly Hills, making friends)

The Hills Have Us (Ride a gryphon from Dragonblight to Amberpine Lodge in Grizzly Hills)
Local Support (Collect Cedar Chest (in a house guarded by 3 hordes))
Close the Deal (Simply go to Ivan)
A Tentative Pact (Simply go back to Lieutenant Dumont)
An Exercise in Diplomacy (Yet another go-to quest. Go to Envoy Ducal)
Total: 46700 xp, 575 Valiance Expedition rep

Part 2 (Helping the northern locals)
Finishing part 1 unlocks 2 independent quests

Wolfsbane Root (Collect 8 Wolfsbane Roots around 28.5, 38.5)

I refuse to believe an artifact so awesomely powerful as the Scythe of Elune:

Fits into a crappy little wooden chest
Is so unimportant to Arugal and co that it's left for us to find for them
Would be almost glossed over by Blizzard in this way.

Now, I've never actually completed the quest line (never bothered with the Arugal-killing part) so if it's confirmed that we just picked up a box containing the Scythe as if it were nothing then so be it - otherwise, no, I will be amazed if this is the scythe.

Based on the numerous casks of 'beverages' within the 'trappers' lodge, my guess is the chest contained nothing more than 'Screech', a slang term for a very potent self-brew alcohol.
