this isn't actually "outside" the ruins like the quest says. it is in the ruins but just outside of the entrance to the crypt.
when you die as a ghost, run past your corpse and into the crypt and you'll see the guy you need to talk to

Be sure the read the quest entirely. I Ice Blocked so as to prevent dying, which worked, but was unable to turn in the quest because you have to be, well, dead :P

Just another note, you must die from the ability that kills you after you ring the gong. You can't see Gan'jo unless you get the buff that it gives you when you die. So basically, just ring the gong and stand there until you die. THEN you go inside and you will be able to turn in the quest Gan'jo. You will find him in the second room after the first large room with the large pile of rubble in the center. He will be standing on your left next to a fountain type thing on the wall. Hope that wasn't too confusing.

clicking on your buff icon doesnt put you back

speak to him again after getting the snow and he will put you back into the normal realm

When you are "dead," you are phased into the ghost world but you still have full health and mana, and are able to use abilities and even mount up and fly around.

This could have some interesting implications, but I just wanted to finish leveling so I spoke to Gan'jo to be revived after only a couple of minutes.

There are many "other side" references, one is the song "Other Side" by Pendulum. Altough its probably referring to the Ozzy Osbourgne song instead.. I dunno. :/

make sure you take out the 2 guardians before you ring the gong, if they kill you instead of the effect you have to do it over

Be sure to NOT MOVE after you hit the gongs. If you move while your screen is shacking and while it says "How dare you summon me without an offering" it will cancel the effect, you wont die and will not receive the buff.

I had some hard times to catch this.. im "always" moving...

Any1 know if where you can get the mace again if you destroy it once you have spoken to the dude? I didn't pick up the next quest and i can't pick it up now... cause i can't see him.

For druids, this is a rare opportunity to see your cat/bear form death animation, as you aren't shifted back into caster form when you "die."

i am not sure if its a bug or soemthing but i just did this on my 75 mage i used the quest item and mounted up for going on more quest then i got the message: you are mounted... and thats it i did not die^^ so save yourself and mount up fast :DD

I'm 99% sure it refers to band Godsmack (you're smacked by some kind of god and die) and could be their "The Other Side" album.

If you abandon the quest after completing it (like I did, I wanted to see if the 'death' had a unique sound & I had my speakers turned off, so I abandoned it) you will retain the 'death' buff, at first I didn't know what to do because you can't click it off, but shortly after I realized you could still mount & I flew back towards the camp & the buff disappeared. Also, I had taken off all my gear because I thought you were going to have to get killed by mobs, you don't, it's a fake death, so don't bother taking off your gear :P Also! you have to talk to him again to get out of the spirit world (unless you want to run away from the ruins & then come back), if you're doing the quest he offers after.

I wasted half an hour on what I though to be a "bugged" quest.
I hit the dong, turned dead, wen't in to talk with Gan'jo, but I was always stuck at 0/1 Death by Warlord Jin'arrak so I couldn't turn in the quest. Abandoned, retried 3 times.
Even created a GM ticket... 10 minutes later... I realized I was in a raid group. Lesson learned.

When the quest says "...use the Drakil'jin Mallet on the gongs outside Drakil'jin Ruins", what it really means is use the gongs within Drakil'jin Ruins, since the only gongs that will complete the quest are contained within the area defined as "Drakil'jin Ruins."
