Core Rotation
To generate as much threat as possible, you will want to prioritize using your abilities in the following order:
방패 밀쳐내기 > 복수 > 충격파 > 압도 > 영웅의 일격
You may recognize this spell priority from TBC, but WotLK introduces a twist to the rotation. The new talent 검과 방패 gives each usage of 복수 and 압도 a 30% chance to refresh the cooldown of 방패 밀쳐내기 (and remove its rage cost for 5 seconds), which happens quite a lot since these two spells are the most commonly used during a single-target encounter.
These random refreshes completely revitalize an otherwise linear rotation and encourage you to stay alert in combat to never miss a 검과 방패 proc. The better you are at taking advantage of 검과 방패 procs and quickly planning your next ability to never miss a 방패 밀쳐내기 reset, the better you will perform as a Protection 전사 throughout WotLK.

방패 막기 now doubles your total block value, which in turn greatly increases the damage of 방패 밀쳐내기 during the 10 seconds of the buff. Since activating 방패 막기 doesn't trigger a GCD, make sure to always press it before 방패 밀쳐내기 to not miss out on the bonus damage and threat, especially on pull for the best snap threat. You can also macro them together if you are lazy, with 방패 막기 first obviously.

After 복수 and 방패 밀쳐내기, your next priority when facing a single-target boss is 충격파. Obviously, bosses are immune to the stun effect of 충격파 so this ability is purely used for added damage and threat in the rotation every 20 seconds, and only when 복수 and 방패 밀쳐내기 are on cooldown.

Finally, when the three abilities above are on cooldown, your filler and most pressed ability is 압도 to stack 방어구 가르기 debuffs and fish for 검과 방패 procs.

20% Attack speed slow — 천둥벼락 연마 = 정당한 심판 = 감염된 상처 = 얼음 손길 연마
574 AP reduction — 사기의 외침 연마 = 비호 = 위협의 포효 + 야생의 공격성
Rage Dump Abilities
The erratic nature of rage generation means you will sometimes find yourself in situations of low rage, barely able to use your main abilities. In other cases, you will receive more rage than you can utilize and lose a lot of it to the 100 rage limit. In those situations, you will have ample rage to perform your entire rotation, plus include a rage dump ability such as 영웅의 일격 or 회전베기 to convert extra rage into more damage and threat.

Rage dump abilities must be used with caution because they replace your next swing and thus prevent you from generating your own rage. As a result, their rage cost is quite high and their "threat-per-rage" ratio is low, which means they are the least efficient abilities to convert rage into threat and last on the ability priority.
Excessive usage of 영웅의 일격 or 회전베기 can lead to rage starvation if you aren't careful. You must gauge how much usage is appropriate based on your incoming damage and rage. The harder the content, the more likely you are to take a beating from bosses and find yourself with more rage than you can use.

방패 밀쳐내기: Shield Slam is the highest threat ability and should be used whenever available. Watch out for 검과 방패 procs to never miss a Slam!

복수: Revenge is your highest damage and second highest for threat. It should always be used when triggered following a blocked/dodged/parried hit.
------------------------------------ ------------------------------------

사기의 외침: Demo Shout reduces incoming damage by ~18% and must always be applied on the boss.

천둥벼락: Thunder Clap reduces incoming damage by ~17% and must always be applied on the boss.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

충격파: Shockwave is a filler ability generating slightly more damage and threat than 압도 every 20 seconds.

압도: Use Devastate as your main filler ability until either 방패 밀쳐내기, 복수 or 충격파 are available.

영웅의 일격: Finally, only use HS if you have spare rage, without ever going overboard and risking delaying your main abilities because you ran out of rage.

Should I use 충격의 일격 in my single-target rotation?Protection Warrior Tank AOE Rotation

천둥벼락
천둥벼락 received the most changes out of all the Protection 전사's abilities in WotLK. Back in TBC it used to be considered a spell, with a high probability to resist given it required spell hit which a 전사 had none, and it didn't scale with any stat so the damage never increased.
Now in WotLK, it's considered a ranged attack, which means it uses the same hit rules as any physical ability, but it can't be dodged or parried. It also scales with attack power (12%) and can hit an unlimited amount of targets, although the damage is reduced above 10 targets hit. Because it's now a physical ability, critical hits are affected by 꿰뚫기 and trigger 치명상. However, since it's a ranged attack, it does not trigger 외상 which activates only on melee crits. As a fun little bonus, it also procs on-hit effects from the ranged slot, such as 허리케인 or 돈 산토스의 유명한 사냥용 소총 for example, for extra damage.

천둥벼락 is a Protection 전사's strongest AoE ability because it can evenly produce solid threat on an unlimited amount of targets and allow the rest of your group to take advantage of their uncapped AoEs as well. Its attack speed slow effect also mitigates incoming damage to top it all.
Although it technically does less damage than 복수 hitting two targets with 복수 연마 despite damaging up to 10 enemies, it's still considered a higher priority ability in your AoE rotation because your first goal is to ensure you have sufficient aggro on every enemy. Once you have established a strong enough blanket lead across all enemies, it's acceptable to prioritize 복수 over 천둥벼락 for personal DPS and to focus your damage on priority targets.

Tank Tip #3: Rage Pooling — When you are tanking trash mobs, if the last target is about to die and your threat is already sufficient, stop using abilities and save the rage for the next battle for more frontloaded threat on pull!

충격파
충격파 is the new ultimate ability of the Protection tree and it contributes to your AoE threat and damage. However, it must not be confused as just another AoE to press on CD like 천둥벼락, because the 4 seconds stun effect can be a double-edged sword. Used at the wrong time, 충격파 can prevent you from generating much-needed rage on pull from incoming attacks to start your AoE rotation and the extra damage and threat from 복수 procs, 피해 보호막 and 회전베기. It is best saved after a couple seconds into a pull, once you are already full of rage from damage received, 방패 막기 and 방패 전문화, and just after using 복수 so you don't miss any proc during the stun.

There are many creative uses for 충격파, from just another AoE spell to quickly grab the attention of a pack when 천둥벼락 is on cooldown, to peel enemies off of your group, create space to kite when you are attempting dangerous large pulls or just to buy a few seconds of calm to help your healer top you up.

Tank Tip #4: Taunt — 도발 is now a 30 yards range spell and it can be used to quickly pull from a distance when 영웅의 투척 is on cooldown, instead of 발사ing with your slow gun.

회전베기
회전베기 replaces 영웅의 일격 as your rage-dump ability when tanking 2 targets or more. The 회전베기의 문양 is especially powerful for AoE tanking because it makes 회전베기 hit 3 targets for the same rage cost, greatly increasing your AoE damage and threat. A slower weapon, with a higher damage range, will produce significantly more damage when spread to 2-3 targets while only marginally increasing the rage cost.

Tank Tip #5: Tab-targeting — Because most abilities from the Protection 전사's toolkit still only hit 1-3 targets between 천둥벼락 cooldowns, it's recommended to tab between different targets when using 복수, 방패 밀쳐내기 and 회전베기 to distribute your threat more evenly across an entire pack.

천둥벼락: Thunder Clap generates steady and even threat across an entire pack and hits an unlimited amount of targets.

복수: Revenge still produces the highest damage, especially when hitting two enemies at once.

충격파: Shockwave is a good additional source of uncapped AoE threat but be mindful of your timing.

방패 밀쳐내기: Shield Slam produces high threat and damage and can be used to reinforce threat on priority targets.

압도: Devastate is rarely used in AoE situations, as most GCDs will be filled with higher priority abilities.

회전베기: Cleave is your go-to ability to dump spare rage, but don't forget to pool rage for the next pull once your threat lead is sufficient.

사기의 외침: Demo Shout reduces incoming damage significantly and can help if your survivability is an issue.

Cooldowns for Protection Warrior Tank in Wrath of the Lich King

방패 막기 — 40 seconds
방패 막기 is the most commonly used cooldown of a Protection 전사 and combines offense and defense. Its primary use is to block every incoming attack for 10 seconds while also doubling your block value, thus greatly reducing melee damage taken for the duration. With the synergy from 방패 전문화, using 방패 막기 in an AoE situation also instantly generates a lot of rage to convert to threat.
But the most important synergy is with 방패 밀쳐내기. Because 방패 밀쳐내기's damage is calculated based off of your shield block value, using 방패 밀쳐내기 during 방패 막기 almost doubles its damage and threat, making 방패 막기 a powerful offensive cooldown for snap threat on top of its damage mitigation properties. Furthermore, 방패 막기 also doubles the temporary shield block value buffs from 방패 막기의 문양 or trinkets such as 놈리건 자동방어기 600 for 방패 밀쳐내기 on steroid.

도발, 도발의 일격 and 도전의 외침
Most tanks will use the glyph associated to their taunt ability such as 도발의 문양 to reduce the hit rating required to never miss a taunt from 17% (446 rating) to 9% (237 rating), especially important for encounters with mechanics forcing tank swaps. The Protection 전사 is in the unique position of having two fixate effects in the form of 도발의 일격 and 도전의 외침 that can be used as a backup plan in case of a resisted 도발 to fixate a boss on you for 12 consecutive seconds, giving you ample time to wait out the cooldown of 도발 and try again. Alternatively, you can simply put 경계 on the tank you are about to relieve a few seconds before the swap. In case of a resisted 도발, the cooldown will be reset almost immediately and you can try again. For this reason, it is important to have easy access to all these abilities to quickly react in case of a resist and you will never have to trade a major glyph for the 도발의 문양.

분쇄의 투척 — 5 minutes
분쇄의 투척 is an offensive cooldown that reduces the armor of a boss by 20% for 10 seconds. It's a strong cooldown to increase the whole raid DPS, especially on pull when every DPS uses their first round of cooldowns paired with their pre-pull offensive potion and 피의 욕망. 분쇄의 투척 is one of the main advantages of having a Protection 전사 in the raid and several 전사s can coordinate to use a rotation of 분쇄의 투척 to increase the duration of the debuff and overlap with the 피의 욕망 burst phase as much as possible.
분쇄의 투척 requires being in 전투 태세, which is the main reason we take 전술 숙련 to quickly stance dance and cast before going back to 방어 태세 inbetween a boss' swings.

무모한 희생 — 5 minutes
무모한 희생 has been gutted in WotLK to say the least, but now that it doesn't share a cooldown with 보복 and 방패의 벽 anymore, it is a more convenient spell to use for a Protection 전사. 무모한 희생 is a good cooldown to buff yourself a few seconds before pulling a boss to guarantee your first 3 abilities to connect will be critical strikes and generate a big threat lead right off the bat. The 20% increase to damage taken is obviously not ideal, but because this negative effect only persists until we use 3 abilities to consume and remove the buff, it won't stay for more than a couple of seconds. Plus, you'll be under the effect of 방패 막기 on pull to boost your opening 방패 밀쳐내기 which would negate the incoming damage increase.

보복 — 5 minutes
보복 was also slightly nerfed but the shorter cooldown more than makes up for it for the Protection 전사. This cooldown will inflict damage equal to your swing damage to any enemy that lands a melee attack against you as a "counterattack" for 12 seconds, or until you use the 20 charges of the buffs. It's a great source of passive threat to set up big pulls and a strong damage cooldown as well to take advantage of as much as possible in AoE situations.
Because 보복 requires being in 전투 태세 to use, it's best activated before pulling to not lose too much rage. But even if you have to trade a lot of rage for it, the damage it provides is definitely worth it.

방패의 벽 — 5 minutes
방패의 벽 reduces all damage taken by 60% for 12 seconds and is the main defensive cooldown of the Protection 전사. It can be used proactively to mitigate an expected spike in damage from a boss ability, or reactively if you see yourself dip low on health and your healers need some help to patch you up.
The 신체 단련 talent can reduce the cooldown by 1 minute, and the glyph of 방패의 벽의 문양 can reduce the cooldown by 2 minutes but lower the effect by 20%. Only use these if they would help you use 방패의 벽 more often in an encounter, or match the cooldown with raid mechanics you want to mitigate.

최후의 저항 — 3 minutes
최후의 저항 increases your current and maximum HP by 30% for 20 seconds. A second defensive cooldown, albeit not as strong as 방패의 벽, that can be used to increase your HP buffer in expectation of a damage spike or as a panic button to raise your current HP if you are close to dying to give your healers a few extra seconds to react. Similar to 방패의 벽, the 최후의 저항의 문양 can be useful if it helps you get an extra use of 최후의 저항 or align the cooldown with a raid mechanic.

분노의 재생력 — 3 minutes
분노의 재생력 requires only one Enrage effect to activate but will consume all currently active Enrage effects — be it the 격노 effect gained from 방어 태세 연마, 피의 분노 or 광전사의 격노 — to regenerate 30% of your total HP over 10 seconds. 3% of your maximum HP healed every second is not going to save you from any situation in a raid when a regular boss swing removes 30% of your HP every couple seconds so it's hardly worthy of being called a defensive cooldown in that regard. 분노의 재생력 is more of a self-sustain cooldown to use when you're about to die in the open or soloing content, for those little extra seconds of time to live.

Abilities for Protection Warrior Tank in Wrath of the Lich KingCore Abilities

방패 밀쳐내기

Shield Slam is the ability that generates the most threat of the Protection 전사's kit. For this reason, it must always be used as a priority over other abilities. With the 검과 방패 talent, the cooldown can be reset unexpectedly and a 전사 quick to react on each proc will generate a lot of extra threat. As often as possible, 방패 밀쳐내기 must be paired with 방패 막기 for more damage and threat.

복수

Revenge is the hardest hitting ability of the Protection 전사, especially when damaging two enemies at once thanks to 복수 연마, and second highest on threat thanks to its high raw damage.

압도

Devastate generates significantly less threat than the previous two abilities but contributes to your threat output in multiple ways. It does decent damage on top of stacking 방어구 가르기 effects with each use and has a 30% chance to refresh 방패 밀쳐내기 with 검과 방패, making it your main filler ability.

영웅의 일격

Heroic Strike adds bonus damage and threat to your next swing but in exchange the damage done won't generate rage. Because some of the threat from this ability comes from a fixed threat value on top of the damage itself, having a fast weapon to convert more swings into more 영웅의 일격 lets you take advantage of this flat threat bonus more often.

회전베기

Cleave serves the same functionality as 영웅의 일격 but for AoE situations. It hits two targets in exchange for a higher rage cost, or three targets with 회전베기의 문양.

천둥벼락

Thunder Clap is a Protection 전사's main AoE ability, hitting an unlimited number of targets within 10 yards around you with 천둥벼락의 문양. Used on cooldown, it provides steady AoE damage and threat across an entire group of enemies. It also reduces the attack speed of enemies hit by 20% with 천둥벼락 연마, greatly reducing incoming damage.

충격파

Shockwave is the new ultimate ability of the Protection tree. It sends a wave of force in a frontal cone of 10 yards, damaging and stunning all enemies for 4 seconds. It can serve as a strong AoE CC ability or complementary AoE threat based on your needs but may take practice to master the narrow cone of the ability.

사기의 외침

Demoralizing Shout reduces the attack power of enemies around you by 411-574 based on the 사기의 외침 연마 talent. It generates very little threat and is mostly used against bosses to reduce incoming damage.

영웅의 투척

Heroic Throw sends your weapon up to 30 yards away to pull enemies, causing high damage, bonus threat and silencing your target paired with the 입막음 talent. It's an excellent tool to engage a fight and you can charge during the traveling animation of your weapon.

도발

Taunt instantly puts you at the top of the threat list and forces a target to attack you for 3 seconds. In WotLK it can be used from a 30 yards range.

도발의 일격

Mocking Blow is a fixate effect that forces your target to attack you for 6 seconds but does not put you at the top of the threat list.

도전의 외침

Challenging Shout is an AoE fixate ability that forces all enemies within 10 yards to attack you for 6 seconds, but like 도발의 일격 it does not put you at the top of the threat list either.

Mobility Skills

돌진

Charge is your main mobility skill. It stuns your target for 1.5 sec and generates 15 rage. It can be used from 25 yards range, or 30 yards with 돌진의 문양. Initially only available in 전투 태세 and out of combat, it can be used in combat and from any stance for a Protection 전사 thanks to 돌격대장.

봉쇄

Intercept is another type of 25 yards range charge, this time doing some damage and stunning for 3 seconds but it costs 10 rage to perform. Initially only available in 광폭 태세, it can be used from any stance for a Protection 전사 thanks to 돌격대장.

가로막기

Intervene is a defensive mobility skill, used to rush to the help of a party member within 25 yards range to intercept the next attack against them. Initially only available in 방어 태세, it can be used from any stance for a Protection 전사 thanks to 돌격대장 and it also removes any movement impairing effect on you.

Utility & Buffs

전투의 외침

Battle Shout increases the attack power of the raid by 550 and up to 688 with 위엄 있는 풍채. This attack power increase is equivalent to a 성기사's 힘의 축복 with 힘의 축복 연마, but the blessing has a much longer duration making it more convenient. Nonetheless, if your group isn't buffed with 힘의 축복 then 전투의 외침 is the next best thing. The duration can be slightly increased with 전투의 문양.

지휘의 외침

Commanding Shout is a unique buff that increases the maximum HP of the raid by 2255 HP and up to 2818 HP with 위엄 있는 풍채. If you raid already has access to 왕의 축복 and 힘의 축복, then your best contribution to the raid is 지휘의 외침.

경계

Vigilance is a 30 minutes buff you can put on any player in your raid. While under this effect, 10% of their produced threat is transferred to you and they also take 3% less damage. Additionally, the cooldown on your 도발 ability is reset every time they are hit. The primary usage of this talent is to increase your threat generation by putting the buff on a high threat damage dealer, paired with 경계의 문양. However, there are many other ways to use this buff, for example, to reduce the damage taken by another tank or to infinitely reset the cooldown of your 도발 if you need to pick many adds in a fight.

피의 분노

Bloodrage consumes 16% of your base health to grant you 20 rage instantly, and another 10 rage over the following 10 seconds. It's a great cooldown for on-demand rage and to pause your rage decay out of combat.

광전사의 격노

Berserker Rage removes and makes you immune to Fear, Sap and Incapacitate effects for 10 seconds. Additionally, it increases the rage generated from incoming damage while active. In WotLK, it can be used from any stance and it's very useful, not only to break CC effects but as a buff to activate before a pull or when you are rage starved.

충격의 일격

Concussion Blow is a long 5 seconds stun and a high damage instant ability that can help you control and peel an enemy every 30 seconds.

방패 가격

Shield Bash is your main interrupting ability against casters as a Protection 전사. In WotLK, this interrupt is now out of the GCD and can be used instantly so make sure to abuse it as much as possible to mitigate magic damage.

무장 해제

Disarm removes an enemy's weapon for 10 seconds, greatly reducing their damage output and preventing the use of some abilities. Unfortunately, the majority of bosses in dungeons and raids are immune to disarm effect so this ability is rarely used in PvE.

주문 반사

Spell Reflection reflects the next spell cast on you within the next 5 seconds back to the attacker. The damage from the reflected spell is counted as your threat, making it a powerful tool against casters. Unfortunately, just like Disarm, most encounters in WotLK dungeons and raids are designed to bypass this ability so it's rarely used in PvE.

위협의 외침

Intimidating Shout, most often referred to as "AoE fear", fears the 5 targets closest to you for 8 seconds. It's a decent panic cooldown if you need a couple seconds of break to stabilize a pull, but be mindful of your surroundings as enemies running away in fear can accidentally pull more and snowball the situation.

As a prot warrior vet you are missing out on something that creates a huge diff in rotation to make is simpler, generate more threat and use less rage. 2.6 weapons are also good for prot warrior and greatly increase the damage of devastate with slower heroic strikes you chew through less rage and can maintain 100% yellow hits and no white hits, some exceptions are on piss weak bosses like Twins and Jaraxxus where you still might be rage starved for a few seconds. This 1 slot change doesn't reduce avoidance by any significant amount and you gain armor, dodge and crit from the agility on the weapon anyway. 2.6 axe from TogC also sims 400 dps higher than the mit weapon and you can take shockwave out of your rotation completely on a single target. So the new prio will be Shield Slam>Revenge>Devastate. As for the opener with recklessness, charge (does no damage so doesn't consume a stack of recklessness) > Taunt (doesn't consume recklessness and makes sure the boss stays comes back to melee range if the charge takes out of the hit box) >Shield slam>revenge>Heroic strike, which all crit from recklessness. with a slow weapon that will be higher threat since heroic strike actually hits hard. It would be nice if misinformation was stopped being spread by people who don't understand the class ruining the opportunity of warriors getting into groups because "Warriors are #$%^" when they really aren't. As for fights like Algalon I would still reccomend an avoidance weapon because every little bit helps on that fight since warriors tanks are not for noobs like paladins with cheat death and plz don't kill me talents made for idiots :)
