apparently, now the chief's Simple Campfire no longer requires a simple wood reagent. just the flint and tender! so if you also have your Gnomish Army Knife, you're in for a free bag space if you always keep wood on your person!

As of patch 3.0.8 building a Basic Campfire no longer needs Simple Wood. You only need Flint and Tinder or a Gnomish Army Knife.

As patch 3.1 u dont need anything but cooking skill to make fire. Now im waiting for naxt patch, perhaps it will let u cook fish without having one:)

Just visited Netherstorm again on my rogue to get the schematic for Adamantite Arrow Maker, and when I tried Area 52 to acquire the Simple Wood, neither Dash nor Kizzie had it... has it maybe been removed from (many) vendors since it's no longer required for the campfire? I couldn't check other Trade Goods vendors as the servers are down for maintenance now, will check tomorrow.

The vendor next to Edna Mullyaby her husband Thurmond Mullaby the general goods in SW still has wood. Most of the ones that I have checked on the list don't.

Yep, this was pulled from the bulk of vendors after the changes to campfires. Very, very sad :(

In general, the mots reliable NPCs to get it from are going to be enchanting suppliers.

The map is partly wrong. The Enchanters' shop is on the canal opposite the Trade District on the outside of the Mage Quarter.

Why is this so expensive in the AH, often selling for more than 1g 50s for a 20 stack, when its available from merchants in most places and in unlimited quantities for less than 10s for same stack?

Quick Fire-making Facts

For 1 campfire, you need:
1 Flint and Tinder
1 Simple Wood
Use of the spell Basic Campfire (in Spellbook, general tab)
Buff Received: Cozy Fire +4 Spirit
Campfire Duration: 10 minutes
Basic Campfire Spell Cooldown: 5 minutes
Buff Duration: 1 minute

Details

Flint and Tinder, along with Simple Wood is required to start a fire almost anywhere (exception: in the water). The flint remains in your bag, but the wood will be used up - one item per one time use. Once you have both Flint and Tinder and the Simple Wood, use the Basic Campfire spell (hit "P" on the keyboard where it is in your general spells) to create the campfire. The Basic Campfire spell has a 5 minute cooldown.

While the Basic Campfire is active, the Cozy Fire buff +4 Spirit, continuously remains available for anyone who stands beside the fire. If you move too far away from it, the buff will remain on you, however it will time out and diminish unless you stand by the fire again. The buff otherwise lasts for one minute. Each time you stand near the campfire, the buff will activate again. (Simply running by it may not activate it as it may take more than one second to be near it in order to rebuff.) Standing beside it, of course will allow the buff to remain on you continuously.

The Basic Campfire stays lit for exactly 10 minutes. It cannot be moved, and cannot be extinguished. It burns out on its own and disappears.

More than one person can use your campfire, and anyone can use it to cook with, even the other faction. You cannot be damaged by campfire.

Fun Fact: someone from the other faction cannot use your created campfire to obtain a buff; the other faction may only cook with it. Any character within your faction can both cook and receive the buff.

This is an overlooked stat that people do not take advantage of in dungeons -- not just for cooking food. As a healer who benefits from Spirit, there may be occasions when you can light a fire near you (as campfires may be created anywhere, even inside instances), obtain the 4+ Spirit and if you lose your buff during a fight if it lasts more than 1 minute, run back over to the fire to rebuff for another minute. A one-time purchase of Flint and Tinder for 1s35c, but each stack of Simple Wood is 38c, and can stack up to 20, taking up two slots (one for flint, one for wood). This is a cheap way to add +4 Spirit for those that take all they can get with Spirit.

You cannot create a Basic Campfire in the water (underwater or while swimming). You cannot create a Basic Campfire while you're moving (this applies to slow-fall). If you are mounted, as soon as you activate the spell you will automatically dismount.

Fun Fact: A character with the ability to walk on water or levitate can create a Basic Campfire on the water. This means priests with levitate or shamans with water-walking, and any characters that benefit from their ability to cast those spells on characters that otherwise cannot rise above water or in the air on their own.
