Add Clefthide Leg Armor to these legs and you've got 72 stamina and 33 agility from your leg slot alone. 720 HP from one slot is nice, and it makes these legs a very worthwhile investment for any warrior planning to tank.

In my research for quest rewarded blues, I found the above linked to be at the top of my lists for my dps gear, whereas the leggings on this page are top of the list for the tanking gear.

Nerfed as of 03/06 now has been reduced to 42 stam and 31 def rating.

I think, despite the nerf, these are probably still equal to or better than the Timewarden's. You may get more stam from sockets, but you'd have more mitigation from these. Depends on what you're looking for in your item budget, i suppose.

I want to point out in this discussion about which is better between timewarden and those. In the next patch you need less parry to get 1% parry chance. It will give around 25% more parry. And if you have 2 t4 parts parry is nice since of the setbonus.

These are not "equal to or better than the Timewarden's".

3 solid stars of elune and a clefthide armor kit on TW's gives a massive 123 stamina. 51 more than these. I don't care how you slice it, that's a huge boost from one item.

Yes, these have parry rating. Yes, they have more defense. But if you have picked your tanking gear and spec correctly you will have that in other areas. Getting above 490 Def is easier than falling off a log.

These are good, no doubt. But they aren't good enough to keep after running CoT a few times (easier than the naysayers think).

Legguards of the Resolute Defender vs Timewarden's Leggings

Timewarden's has 31 more armor even after +armor from the agility on Resolute (negligible).
Timewarden's has 15 more stamina (good).

for Resolute.
23 agility (+.69% crit and +.76% dodge @70 for Warrior)
+ def. rating 31 (13 defense skill)
+ parry rating 20 (+.89% parry @70)

for Timewarden's.
3 sockets w/ +6 block value bonus (red, yellow, blue)
+ def. rating 18 (7 defense skill)
+ dodge rating 11 (+.58% dodge @70)

But then if you use only green gems which are very cheap, you can get a +9 stamina blue gem, a +6 defense yellow gem, and +3 str/+4 stam purple gem for a total of:

+28 more stam than Resolute
+6 block value than Resolute

-7 defense than Resolute (-2 defense skill (because of how rounding down works))
-%1.07 percent of mitagation from block/parry than Resolute
-%.69 crit from agility than Resolute

Basically, it's mitigation vs stamina. I'd rather take +280 HP from one slot because from other gear I am easily at 45%+ mitigation. Also, the better gems you use, the more stamina you can get from Timewarden's.

I crunched the numbers on these 2 pieces myself just now. I was VERY disapointed in the avoidance on Timewarden's on my protection paladin--I don't see you mention it here but did you factor in dodge from agility? Resolute Defender's 23 AGI + Clefthide's 10 is netting me 1.32 dodge% (~25 dodge rating!!) by my Tankpoints readout.

My post here is basically for Protection Paladins. I would consider these legguards to be highly underrated in terms of their avoidance, which is much more precious to tanking paladins than warriors. Many people will grab Timewarden's over these thinking they are "so great because they have tons of HP and don't waste any budgeting on STR," but I would argue they are not so great for most up and coming tanking paladins, because most of us have a steep mountain to climb when it comes to reaching uncrushable status, thanks to our active blocking ability being inferior to warriors. That being said:

**Short Version**

If you, like me, are a pally still trying to reach that fabled 102.4% avoidance uncrushable status while active blocking (takes alot more avoidance gear for a paladin than warrior) I would STAY AWAY from Timewarden's. They'll cost you several nights rep grinding, 30g to buy, much more gold on top of that for the gems--to upgrade these to ~1-2% less avoidance and a chunk more HP than Resolute Defender's, which are a free (easy!) quest reward.

Conversly, if you are deep into uncrushable territory, by all means grab these and jam them full of +12 STA gems for a ton of extra HP! -- just don't automatically assume these are "the best pre-raid tanking legs" because you might be screwing yourself out of alot of avoidance, especially if you are a paladin with our (realitively) gimpy shield block ability.

**Long Version**

*Disclaimer: Your stats my vary, due to base racial stats, combat rating rounding down, your proximity to avoidance caps, etc. I took most of my data readings from TankPoints' hit table calculator, butt naked, plugging in the stats for each item in question. That being said, you can safely imagine a " ~ " next to all these values to represent approximately!

*Note: I'm also assuming both Items will use the cheaply made/purchased Clefthide Leg Armor.
*Final Note: when I speak of "Avoidance" I'm strictly speaking % towards uncrushable status!

Here's the data:

Legguards of the Resolute Defender
Armor: 942 + 66 from AGI = 1008 = 7.99% Dmg Reduction
STA: 42 + 30 = 72
AGI: 23 +10 = 33
DEF: 31R = ~13 = 0.52% (M/D/P/B/Cr)

Block: 0R + 0.52% from DEF = 0.52%
Dodge: 0R + 1.32% from AGI + 0.52 from DEF = 1.84%
Parry: 20R (~0.84%) + 0.52% from DEF = 1.36%

Summary:
720 HP
Dmg Reduc: 7.99%
Miss: 0.52%
Dodge: 1.84%
Parry: 1.36%
Block: 0.52%
Total Avoidance: 4.24%

Timewarden's
Armor: 1019 + 20 from AGI = 1019 = 8.29% Dmg Reduction
STA: 57 + 30 = 87
AGI: 0 +10 = 10
DEF: 18R = ~7 = 0.28% (M/D/P/B/Cr)
Block: 0R + 0.28% from DEF = 0.28%
Dodge: 11R + 0.40% from AGI + 0.28% from DEF = ~1.26%
Parry: 0R + 0.28% from DEF = 0.28%

Summary:
870 HP
Dmg Reduc: 8.29%
Miss: 0.28%
Dodge: 1.26%
Parry: 0.28%
Block: 0.28%
Total: 2.10%

Throw in 1 Subtle Living Ruby (+8 Dodge) and that brings it up to:
Dodge: 1.68%
Total: 2.52%

Two Subtle Living Rubies?
Dodge: 2.10%
Total: 2.94%

THREE Rubies?
Dodge: 2.53%
Total: 3.37%

At this point, for about 120-135g worth of gems on my server, you've created Resolute Defender's -0.87% Avoidance + 150HP, or a chest HP enchant. In other words, don't do this! Of course, if you can afford the knock to your avoidance without becoming vulnerable to crushing blows, put three +12 stamina gems in there for a huge 1230 HP on one piece. The trade comes out to about 50% less avoidance for 59% more HP, a fair trade if you are way out of reach of crushing blows, but until then stick with Resolute Defender's IMO while you are still reaching to that 102.4%.

According to this guy's calculations, for Timewarden's it's best to for 3x Solid stars of elune to get the extra stamina needed when starting heroix, given with the other pieces u'r allready looking at 490 def, and use these babies for starting kara as the avoidance on these is far superior.

Prot pally pov, dunno about warriors.

After patch 2.0.10 the sta was reduced to 42 from 69, not sure if any other stats were changed.

I haven't yet heard that the Mag'hari Warlord's Legplates are being nerfed. It will be a pretty close call between those and these after they are changed. These have ~20 more Def, 20 parry and agi v. the Mag'hari's ~1% to hit, some crit and 22 more stam. Could go either way depending on how much Def you have from other gear.

they just reduced the stam on these to 49... at least mine are. i dont know if that means wit was an accident, or they really meant to do it... but either way im not happy about losing 200 health

They are great for level 67, Felsteel is lvl 70 big difference. These are the best tank pants till 70.

In general, Parry is more useful than Dodge rating.

If you parry an incoming attack, the time until your next swing is cut in half; that's why Expertise is such a good stat against bosses.

Especially for a Paladin tank who has less overall mitigation than a Warrior, stacking Parry can be better than stacking Defense after you've reached Uncrushable.
