Stood at 55,50 and caught a few. I was at 275 fishing skill with the reward from this quest Seth's Graphite Fishing Pole, and using a Bright Bauble... and still had fish get loose.

I fished at 54,48. It's a good spot in my opinion, since you don't aggro anything.

375 seems to be the magic number for not having things getting away constantly. As soon as I hit that with lure + fishing rod bonus I was catching something about 90% of the time.

This is just ridiculous. I've been fishing for a couple of hours for these Large Raw Mightfish and I am getting a horrible rate. Only 7%. I need these to get my cooking to 300 and it is taking forever. I finally got my fishing up to 300 so that makes things a lot easier because things are not constantly getting away. Thanks for all the tips above.

Well, I'm fishing right in the Bay of Storms. I'm at 74,72 right on a little rock. There's a giant walking around beside me, but Im lvl 61 so he isnt aggroing.

My skill:
280/300
Strong fishing pole +5
Lure +100

So, that 385. At 385, I'm catching about 6 out of 10. After 18 casts, I've caught 7 lobster, 2 summer bass and a stonescale eel.

After about an hour, I caught:

Darkclaw Lobster - 24
Raw Summer Bass - 18
Big-mouth Clam - 7
Stonescale Eel - 4
Reinforced Locked Chest - 2
Large Raw Mightfish - 3
Ones That Got Away - LOTS!

I would suggest getting the Darkclaw Lobster Recipe from Feathermoon Stronghold. You're gonna catch ALOT of these and that recipe is orange at 285 cooking.

2nd UPDATE:

Fished for about 2 1/2 hrs at 74,72 on a small rock. Same place as the first.

Skill 294, strong fishing pole (+5), 16 lures (+100): 399

I caught:

Big-mouth clam: 34 (containing: 1 Black Pearl, 2 Small Lustrous Pearl...woohoo!)

Raw Spotted Yellowtail: 10 (Not sure my pet will even eat this anymore at lvl 62!)
Heavy Crate: 1 (containing: 1 Mithril Casing)
Reinforced Locked Chest: 2 (not sure yet what these contain)
Large Raw Mightfish: 40
Ones That Got Away: ALOT less than last time!

I gained 24 skill points when I had finished this session, and 318 w/ pole (+5 = 323) and NO lure....I STILL got the red letters "Skill not high enough..." when I tried to cast in the Bay of Storms. I'm not sure if it was the same pre BC.

Twice is enough. I will never fish these waters again!

I have fished at 53,58 as well, for 40 minutes.

My fishingskill is 325+75 from the lure.

I fished:
68 Darkclaw lobster
40 raw summer bass
11 stonescale eels
10 clams (10 zesty clam meat+2 black pearls)
4 large raw mightfish
1 12-pound lobster

At one point I fished 32 darkclaw lobsters in an row, which is quite unusual, so 68 lobsters in 40 mins of time is not general.

I also had fish getting away every once in a while.

I stood at 53,59 (almost under water) with 300 + 100 between 23:35-00:05 and got the following:

Been fishing for about half an hour on 74.8, 71.9, on the samen rock robgreg7 stood I think.

My skill was 277 at the beginning
rod: +20
lure: +75
total: 372

I caught:
Darkclaw lobster: 20

Elemental water: 3 (in 1 catch)
Globe of water: 2 (in 1 catch)

Fish that got away: 42!

My skill now is 284 and I didn't notice any difference on fish that got away before or after 280 (+95 = 375). 20 got away before 280, 22 after.

Edit: Another 45 minutes at the samen spot brought me to skill 297 and the following catches:

Darkclaw lobster: 33
Raw summerbass: 6
Big-mouth clam: 7
Stonescale eel: 13
Large raw mightfish: 9
Reinforced locked chest: 2
Raw spotted yellowtail: 5
12 pound lobster: 1

Fish that got away: an anyoing 51 fish! Skill level doesn't seem to matter at this point. Maybe from 300 on it does...

I went there to skill my fishing from 275 to 300. I was using Seth's Graphite Fishing Pole (+20 fishing) and Aquadynamic Fish Attractor (+100 fishing), giving me total of 395 fishing. 95% of casts were successful. I spend there about 1 hour and I was changing my spot from 61.67 to 61.63 and back every 10 minutes.

With a total of 180 successful casts my fishing turned 300 and the stats were the following:

Darkclaw Lobster (36.1%)
Stonescale Eel (26.1%)
Large Mightfish (18.3%)
Big-mouth Clam (9.4%)
Winter Squid (7.2%)
Spotted Yellowtail (2.2%)
Heavy Crate (0.6%)

When you're trying to increase both fishing and cooking and have to come to azshara fishing for Large Raw Mightfishes, you arrive to a paradox...
I mean, I fish there with a +25 fishing pole, applying a +100 fishing lure, with a basic skill of 285, and None of the target fishes comes into my web...
Just the red crabs, stonescale eels, big mouth clams, pants, lockboxes, but NO large raw mightfishes... I spent one hour fishing with NO result...
If anyone can help me... I'd be grateful.
PS - sorry 4 the language, but I am italian... mistakes are allowed =)

Perhaps just pointing out the obvious but from october to january you won't get summerbass, but winter squids.

I have been fishing for these for some time while leveling both fishing and cooking. I have gotten my fishing from 295-322. In the process, I have caught about 5 stacks of lobster and a mere 13 mightfish. Of these 13, 5 were caught in the last 15 minutes (from skill 315-320)

I have 275 + 20 rod + 100 lure and still miss a bunch. Fished for 2 hours and got a bunch of eels and lobsters and a few mightfish but still no large mightfish. Should I be looking for circles of them?

From my experience I would say be somewhere right around 300 fishing skill. Get the fishing lures from a fishing supplier that are at least 75 or 100. A couple hints:

Have at least one empty bag for all extra fish so you arent wasting time clearing them out.

Dont waste your time with opening clams or boxes until the 10 mins on the lure is up, you'll need all the time you can get.

Be sure to buy plenty of lures otherwise you run out and the fishing supplies arent nearby.

If you're at 300 a wise decision would be to travel to zangarmarsh and get the book for 6g to get the higher skill as you fish.

I spent 40 mins total and got 17 large raw mightfish so they are hard to come by, but the higher the skill and lure the easier it is. Also if you can get a fishing pole with a + on it...mine had +20. Hope this helps!

To fish in The Bay of the Storms skill is needed to be base 330, IE: plain ole out right 330, no lures :P now at 330 I can't fish here with em gettin away however am using a lure that adds +100. hope this clears confusion up :)

fish got away 10/10 times, didnt bother with more tries.

255 skill + the same
getting fish, but still getting away more then 50%

260 + the same
getting away about 75% -ish of the time

262 skill + 20 + 100
Caught my first Large Raw Mightfish after 18 lobsters

265+20+100
got 2 more Large Raw Mightfish, and I'm up to 25 of the lobsters now. I'm guessing this is the magic number
(265+20 is still not enough to fish here)

wowwiki has a table about the fishing locations, and skill required, check it out.

total from 255-290 skill, I got maybe 130 lobsters, but only 25 large raw mightfish. So if you want to skill up cooking..go for lobsters :)

Fishing on one of the easternmost islands from 12:00pm-1pm:

Base skill 275 + 20 (pole) + 75 (lure) = 370
3 Mightfish, 22 Lobster, 12 Winter Squid, 4 Stonescale Eel

The area has a base difficulty, so that's what you need to try to beat.

I sat ona a litle rock in Azshara>Bay of Storms at 55,59 and at first i couldnt cast there even with 303 skill and 25 rod but then +100 fish hooks i could fish there the drop rate was pretty awsome i got 2 on my first few casts and obste so if you wanna level cooking this is great because i just got lobstew stew and mightfish steak

These fish are caught in Scalebeard's Cave. To fish right in front of the cave you have to have a fishing skill of 330.

I fished at the shoreline in front Scalebeard's Cave, and I only had a fishing skill of 210. I could fish there with my fishing pole that had +25. And I had a lure that was +100.

Darkclaw Lobsters are the way to get you cooking skill up, and your fishing skill up.

With fishing skill of 255, strong fishing pole (+5) and +100 lure I could still only catch 3-4 lobsters in 10 minutes in front of the cave, so I'm not sure how the previous poster was doing that. The rest of my fish got away- only like 1/4 didn't get away.

The exact fishing level for Bay of Storms in Azshara is 310.

(I went out at 308 and it said - Level not High Enough. I recieved two points and my fishing lure wore off and I was able to fish at 310 with no Lure.)

In 1 hour I have recieved primarily Raw Spotted Yellowtail though I have also recieved a good amount of Winter Squid, and Darkclaw Lobsters. I have only fished up 1 Large Raw Mightfish. Very disappointing.

A some point Blizz decided to let you know the minimum skill if you are unable to fish an area. The Bay of Storms, specifically the areas to catch lobsters and mightfish is 330. 330 will catch nothing, so go in with 350 and you should be fine.

I get them at a rate of 1 in 25 fish in the Bay of Storms. With enhancements, my skill is 405 and some fish still get away. It may be rare for you because your skill is not high enough.

Found the Large Raw Mightfish @ 69,67 Bay of Storms.

Went in with 270 fishing and added a 75 lure + 25 from my extreme angler - total 370!

Took my skill all the way to 300 in about 1:30 hr and caught:

-16 Large Raw Mightfish
-46 Darkclaw Lobsters

Also:

-33 Stonescale Eel
-2 Reinforced Locked Chests
-19 Zesty Clam
-1 Mithrill Casing (from a box)
-1 Golden Pearl (from a Big Mouth Clam)

Others which I had to trash from lack of room....

I have been fishing at 55.2,61.9 in Bay of Storms, Azshara.

Here is what I have got, stats from fishing buddy (currently 75 catches)

Darkclaw Lobster 41 (54.7%)
Summer Bass 19 (25.3%)
Large Mightfish 6 (8%)
Stonescale Eel 4 (5.3%)
Big-mouth Clam 4 (5.3%)
Heavy Crate 1 (1.3%)

Hope that helps with some better info in how rare the Large Mightfish are. While I was fishing I had my skill around 475 (with lures etc.)

I've been pushing the professions and, as a result, my Lvl 38 Warrior was 295 cooking and 286 fishing. I needed those Largeclaw Lobsters and Large Raw Mightfish. But, how to survive travel to The Bay of Storms?
From Ashenvale I swam downriver to Durator,crossed over the north end to Azshara, and walked up the Eastern Coast. At the southern tip of the crescent that forms the Bay there was a pass that was Monster free and led to the South End of Bay of Storms.
I was trying to Island hop to 69,67 but was attacked by a 3 headed sea monster that conned "?"! I just managed to outrun him, when one of those giants jumped on me! I was a goner.
Luckily, I died at the approach to an Island at 79,73 inhabited by Duke Hydraxis, who conned green. Moreover, the island is surrounded by his bodyguards. So, after ressurection and and buffing up (+5 rod, +2 gloves, and +100 lure x2)I caught 23 Darkclaw Lobster and 16 Large Raw Mightfish, increasing fishing from 286 to 294!
I Hearthstoned back to Stormwind and Cooked till the 300 Level was attained. Alternate got me the Zangarmarsh Books, but I don't see how I can continue levelling until my Warrior reaches Lvl 45. Guess I'll go Prospecting.

To find Hataera's Clutch in Azshara, head toward the big eastern bay. There are paths down to the beach below in different areas; I went down the path in Southridge Beach at coordinates 50,74, and then swam toward the center of The Bay of Storms. There are plenty of rocks to stand on, but be careful of the level 54 elite giants, if you aggro them. Hataera's Clutch is a large round building at 56,48 or so. Even then, I only caught one large raw mightfish. If you're looking to increase your cooking skills, try Lobster Stew. I caught 13 darkclaw lobsters in the 10 minutes that I was there. Good luck!

Just fished a small amount, along Darkclaw Lobsters and other odd things like a Winter Squid, many Stonescale Eels and a Reinforced Locked Chest at 56,52, on a small rock in Hetaera's Clutch.
Had 296+75+25 Fishing, nice catch rate, few misses :D
The right place to reach 300 cooking and fishing :D

the turtles cave and the bay of storm have terrible rates for this stuff, i got 2 in like 30 mins, any other place i should fish? btw my skill is like 288 plus 20 for my rod, if that matters

I did not have any luck finding this in Azshara, fishing for at least an hour in various locations.

But according to this: https://wow.gamepedia.com/Large_Raw_Mightfish, it can be fished at the Blasted Lands or Swamp of Sorrows. I found a spot on the beach in the Blasted Lands between the Shattered Beachhead and the Shattered Landing. I caught one there in less than 2 minutes.

Unlikely to be worth cooking up (Mightfish Steak) unless you're raising Cooking skill. It requires hot spices and soothing spices to make, and Mightfish Steak doesn't vendor well at all. If you want to eat it, you're better off with regular Stamina/Spirit food instead of this, such as Monster Omelet.

I fished for an hour or two in Azshara for these (without lures), got none. Then tried Blasted Lands for an hour, nothing. Added baubles and got one on beach in Blasted Lands after few casts.

The mightfish can be caught in BFA ofshore Swamp of Sorrows. Caught 4 mightfish, 7 Raw Summer Bass, 8 Darkclaw Lobster while leveling fishiing from 75. to 175. You can also get the quests amd while fishing.

Try to fish in Ashara 55/50 and all be good, for one hour i looted dozens of such fish and a lot of different other fish :)

I initially attempted to fish these near the shore in Azshara with no success.
Swam out until I was shown in The Bay of Storms and found a high spot at 63.27/56.81 where stood thigh deep and was able to catch a Large Raw Mightfish on the third cast.
I ended up with 40% Darkclaw Lobster 19% Large Raw Mightfish 12% Winter Squid the rest was junk and a couple lock boxes.
At 300 fishing skill was unable to cast but with ( Seth's Graphite Fishing Pole) and was almost always successful at catching something.

I fished for several hours off the Sunken Temple building, and got no Large Raw Mightfish. What I did get was Raw Sunscale Salmon, Lightning Eel, Raw Redgill, several Raw Mithril Head Trout, and Oily Blackmouth.

Yes they do exist in Azshara in TBC Classic.

You just have to get away from the shore and into the archipelago. I fish at 62.46, 63.73 and catch one every 8 casts. The subzone is called "Bay of Storms"

Fished for 20 minutes in Azhara near Scalebeard's lair (fishing skill ~230) and got 1 Large Raw Mightfish, 13 Winter Squid and 19 Darkclaw Lobster.
