I had some trouble with this quest as it didn't tell the location of An'owyn, but it is right south of where you pickup the quest. Crystal Controlling Orb drops from the Sentinel Infiltrators that guard the crystal, it took me around 15 kills to get it.

The crystal is at 58:64. And i found the crystal controling orb on one of the guard surrounding the crystal.

I cleared the main part of the camp a couple of times and found no orb, then i went here and saw that a lot of people reported getthing it on first kill, and alot reporeted never finding it. This reminded me of the old quest with the wizard of southshore and the rod that never dropped. Here the drop was bound to a certain mob, rather than being a random drop.

So figured since so many got it in the first kill it had to be one of the first mobs so went there and cleared them, and bingo got the drop.

So if you cant find the orb, try killing the mobs to the left of the road in the start of the camp, 9 out of 10 times one of these will drop it.

I tried this and got it on first kill. On another char I tried the mobs on the right side and couldn't get a drop. Perhaps it's just random but worth a try ;)

I got it from the mob by the first tent on the far right as you enter the camp. 56,65. After many kills. I believe I had killed that mob before too, so seems it's random.

An'owyn is directly south of the quest giver. getting the orb takes FOREVER! I had to kill the whole camp 6 times to get an orb.

The mobs are very easy so if you can pull 3-4 of the guys on the left *Facing the road* you will be fine. It will drop.

i went around the entire area, killing almost everything, then 2 other people come in, kill 1 or 2 and get it. got all the way back were i started before it dropped for me...bummed me out.

just killed 24 of the little buggers before the orb dropped that makes for a 4% drop rate. I would have minded more if there was not a good drop rate on wool and linen.

The mobs dropping the Orb and the thing you need to shutdown are around 58,65 in Ghostlands

I felt like such a douche, because there was a mage farming them too. And I just kind of picked one that was out of his path of rape, so it wouldn't be considered that I was "stealing" his mobs.

Try killing the guard next to the most South-Eastern Tent. I got the orb on my first kill from that enemy their. Either I am very lucky or the same guard carries the orb.

that was pretty ridiculous... i had to kill well over 20 of these sentinals or w/e they are. the only reason i didnt quit is cuz i was fairly close to lvling and i got close enough that the 1450xp from the quest would lvl me up. having a pet helped too =P

Don't make the same mistake I did. When you get the orb, use it at the camp. I ran back to the quest giver with the orb (got it on the 5th kill) and am running back now :P.

Pretty easy quest, I guess it's just luck.

Been having trouble with this quest i've cleared the camp out twice now no drop a hell of a lot of cloth and greys couple of greens, enough to fill up 3 20slot bags. anyone help me out with this? done this quest a few times on other characters and never had any trouble.

very, very low drop-rate. I killed the whole place like 3 times before it dropped. I would suggest going in here when you're level 18 or 19 so that it's not such a hassle.

The NPC won't give you this quest before you have delivered the Night Elf Plans to him from the quest Deliver the Plans to An'telas.

It might have been just me, but the drop rate here is horrible. I cleared the camp twice over and it hadn't dropped. I was about to give up, but it finally dropped. So my advice to you is; that if it's not dropping for you.. keep at it!

tbh i think you should all stop whineing about how such as bad drop rate it is. when ever i look at quests all you ever see is "OMFG such a low drop rate, i abandoned this quest" well your just ruining the perpesctive of the game, your getting experience for the things you kill so thier is no loss.

i got mine drop on about the 30th kill.

This spot was glitching for me. I would beat down the elves til they run away but when they ran they would evade all my hits and then come back at me with full life. Had a hard time getting to the crystal, but finally got there. This happen to anyone else?

Ok the Night Elfs you need to kill are literally due south of the Sanctum of the Sun and An'telas, that is the area called An'owyn.
You know you are killing the right NE in that area also because they are called Infiltrators. It took me 9 kills but I did get 2 green swords. Not a bad trade off.

Start from An'telas (60,36) and take the road directly south. At the T junction keep going straight ahead (slowly, cause it's right there) and you will find the camp around the Night Elf Moon Crystal.

The drop is truly random. 19 Priest and the drop was on the first kill. Two more kills to clear the way to the Crystal and quest done. 1450XP.

Definitely head towards 58.62 ish, and in and around that area. I got the orb off of the first drop, first night elf I saw. The infiltrators are brutal though. But as a level 18 mage, frost nova solves everything. =)

57,67 coords are good... or just run directly south following the road, veer slightly left at the T in the road, and you'll run into the large glowing crystal.

only had to kill 23 to get the orb, guess I got lucky... that's a 4% drop rate for me.

for the peeps without coords mods, just follow the road back south and keep going until you see a camp of nelfs.

It took me about 30 kills to get it, but I leveled and got some cool stuff. By the time I killed all those bastards, I had cleared the way really well to the crystal.

It takes a while, but just think of all the XP you get. If you got everything on the first try, the game wouldn't be near as challenging.

And the coords are good too BTW.

I had to circle the camp two and a half times until finally one of the NEs in standing infront of the tents dropped it. Took me 30 mintes. 17 BE Priest SOLO.
Came really close to dying a lot, and be careful not to aggro more than one or you may be screwed!

So far I've leveled a few characters and done this quest, and I've only had problems once. I did this quest as a priest, with a mage, and we took out the whole camp nearly 3 times with no drop. Luckily doing it that way is still pretty fast though, and we did finally get the drop from one of the guards that was circling the orb.

Leave An'telas via the dirt path to the road to the intersection. Turn left at the intersection. Then there is a dirt path on your right that leads down into An'owyn.

I also had poor luck with the drop rate and cleared the entire camp once before i got the orb.

This is one of those quests where you grind through 2/3 of the camp, never getting the drop you need, only to have someone come along, kill one mob, get the drop, deactivate the crystal, then run off with little to no effort expended.

Not that I'm bitter. Its not like I died at any point. It just took 20 minutes of grinding.

someone posted about this further down, but look on the left hand side, behind the tents in the hills. the first guy i killed back there dropped. only had to kill 3 or 4 before i realized there were more NE's back there.

Deactivate An'owyn

Retrieve the Crystal Controlling Orb and then use it to deactivate the Night Elf Moon Crystal at An'owyn. Then return to Magister Sylastor at An'telas in the Ghostlands.

Descrizione

Their moon crystals are scrying devices -- they're going to spy on us! I know that An'daroth can't provide enough power for that, but An'owyn, directly to the south, most definitely can!

From the plans I now have a basic knowledge of how these moon crystals work; enough to shut them down. They're keyed so that they can be turned off. You must go to An'owyn, retrieve the controlling orb from one of the night elves and then use it on the moon crystal to stop them from enacting their plan!
