I've seen Balgaras in three different places: the second building on both the right and left of Dun Modr as you walk in, and at Direforge Hill, which is along the mountains southeast of Dun Modr.

Found him at 60,26, he's easily recognizable by his blue lvl 34 minion. You need to do this with a group though, he's always surrounded by lvl 28-30 mobs.

We got him in the second house on the left, downstairs. He was with his voidwalker pet and a demonis dwarf... Had to get my friend lvl 70, wasn't makeable with 2x lvl 32 priest.

Oh, beware, he is immune to shadow. (Well, at least my shadow word: pain and my mindblast were both blocked as immune.)

the minion was level 31 when i found him, not 34 as stated above.

also the mobs seemed easier to kill in the hills than they did in dun modr, something to keep in mind for "the dark iron war" quest

He is immune to shadow magic and his 2 main spells are shadow bolt volley and frost nova.
Died once because of his immunity to shadow. (Shadowpriest ^^)

I might have just been really lucky...

I am a 30 shadowpriest, so I thought for sure it'd be challenging. He was at 62,29. It was really easy to pick off the two mobs near him. I opened with smite, ignored the minion. Kept up Power Word: Shield and fought using excavation wand (fire damage, not shadow damage). Got an add when he ran away on low health, but was still not a big deal.

I just did this quest...VERY EASY SOLO

found him in the mountains soloed as a lvl 29 enhancement shaman, i just had to kill 1 guy before him and then i just stoneclawed his minion

yeah very easy quest. I actually had some help with it cause i was a 27 warlock and I'm practically powerless. But with my rogue friend, we cleared out the guys near him and then sapped balgaras, killed the voidwalker then in about 3 seconds, killed balgaras. Over all easy quest. P.S. I found him in the direforge hills. Don't forget to clear the adds.

Soloed this as a (very green newbie) draenei hunter at level 31 and found it quite easy... the toughest one was the level 31 mob he has next to him. Be careful if you're a hunter though... My pet alone killed Balgaras while I was fighting the minion (I told you I'm a newbie xD) so I couldn't loot the ear and had to wait until it respawned :)

Done with a 28 priest.

I read the comments, and noted that he was immune to my shadow spells.

So I simply used Smite at maximum distance, Holy Fire, then spammed Smite until he died, wasting no time on shadow spells that will fail.

The voidwalker will not die after he is killed, but you should definately head for Balgaras first.

Good luck.

(By the way, no healing was needed, besides my Power Word: Shield.)

Easily done by a level 28 paladin. Just wiped out area of regular dwarfs before attacking Balgaras. I used Turn Evil to fear his Voidwalker and then quickly killed Balgaras and looted the ear.

For Warlocks, send pet in to Balgaras and just cast Immolate and spam Searing Pain until he dies. His minion despawns when he dies. I did this as a level 27 Warlock. You may aggro 1-2 mobs around him, so be careful.

I had a problem when I first tried to take on one of the three Iron Band Dwarf camps at Direforge Hill solo with my lvl29 Dwarf Warrior. I could take on the mobs around the first (NW) camp one at a time, but when I went in to the camp I got 4 and it was too much for my tank without a healer. So, I went off and did other things and came back when I was lvl32. I still got killed three times before I figured out better tactics with this camp and was able to get the adds down to three at the worst, which I could handle by myself. The trick was the Dwarf who would hide on the N side of the SE tent until the Demolitionist in front (SW) of the tent was pulled, and then he would join the melee as the fourth. When I attacked him directly from the NE, only the Demolitionist was pulled, and I handled the two of them easily.

I found Balgaras at the third (SE) camp, and made a pass around the camp perimeter taking out all the mobs one at a time before attacking Balgaras and his minion at the center. I was able to use a shout to get the minion to flee while I finished off Balgaras, so it really wasn't too hard. I never did attack the middle camp, even though I could see a nice looking chest there, because by this time I had my quota of Iron Band kills for The Dark Iron War quest. After taking down Balgaras, I explored further East and found a nice cavern full of Raptors which had good ore deposits and a nice treasure chest.

Hey Everyone! This is my first post so go easy. I just finished this quest, lvl 32 Rogue and I completed it within 4 minutes. It was actually one of the easiest quests I've done in a while. I've been reading the comments and I need to say that Balgaras is lvl 31 and his minion is lvl 31 (not 34 as previously stated). There was two Ironforge Demolitionists and two Saboteurs near him. They are fairly spread out to take out individually. Then just focus on Balgaras. Leave his minion alone. Once he's dead, loot him and do a runner. Simple! Hope that helped.

He spawns in both Dun Modr and in the camps in eastern wetlands. If he isnt at one, he will be at the other. Theres only about a 5 minute delay on him spawning.

Where he is spawned u can find blue Minion. If you see Minion u found exact location of the mage you have to cut ear off.

Those of you who rely on shadow (warlocks, shadow priests), make sure you don't waste your time with shadow spells 'cause he's immune.

Was messy, and wasn't an easy fight by any means since he has some nice anti-hunter tricks (his shadow bolts hit both pet and hunter at the same time, he has a debuff that does ~130 damage every 15 seconds to a large area, his nova stops pet from moving, etc.). I'm guessing a rogue 32+ would be able to do him solo also if said rogue can separate Balgaras from the other dark dwarves. That's alot easier said then done though.

We took him on as a group of lvl30-32's. He was spawned in lower floor of the Inn in Dun Modr, we were already pretty beat up after killing lots of Dark Iron mobs in the area and he spawned on top of us. We got him down to 3/4 health and rid of his minion. I was able to solo him the rest of the way as a lvl32 pally, though ti was real tough. Had to Divine Protection once and Lay on hands once. Lots O' healing in between whacks w/ Seal of Command up.

I was in a group 39 Hunter(me), a warlock, Pally and rogue(late 20's early 30's)last night. We were killing the Iron Dwarfs which for the most part you will have two if your lucky usually ends up being 4 to 5 at a time. It is possible to single pull outside the buildings if you are careful but inside they seem to join the fight from even the bottom floors. We had cleared all the buildings (they respawn rather quick) and then hit the bigger building in center back. He spawned on us and pretty much kicked our our butts due to the ones respawning outside that building. We wiped then regrouped and started again. He again respawned on us but this time we didn't have adds like the first. Both times he spawned was in the entrance of that back building. So guessing that is the one he spawns at.

Three of us...level 31 pally, level 32 rogue, and a 35 hunter found him at 60,25. He was surrounded by dwarves. picked off dwarves two or three at a time then got him when it was down to 4 total and ganged up on him. Still tough, we all managed to get ear. As soon as he goes down get that ear. Also don't wait too long, respawn is quick.

It seems like all the locations were posted. We thought he could only be in the inn or the camps to the east.

We checked it out in ghost form and found him in a building to the right in Dun Modr.

HOW WE KILLED HIM:

You have to be fast clearing or the respawn rate might wipe your group. My group consisted of a 31 hunter (me) and my friend, a 31 warrior.

We cleared up to there was only Balgaras and his Voidwalker minion left. We wiped the first time, by having my bear tank the void while we DPSed Balgaras down, with the warrior tanking.

We ress'ed on the above floor. We managed to do it, with plenty of health left. We decided to kill the pet with my bear tanking Balgaras. Good ol' Marshmallow held him off really well and the void went down FAST.

We had to pot and trade off aggro. I also used a freezing trap so we could bandage. It was hard shooting in that room so communication was important ; )

It was pretty fun and we thought it to be an accomplishment since he was orange to us.

i found him at the camp, 60:25. spent ages looking in dun modr with no joy. i suggest maybe trying the camp (60:25) first.

Done with 2 people - Druid lvl 31 and Shammy lvl 32

This is how we did it:
1. Make sure you clear the elite adds around the main boss. Trying to keep them clear of the main person so that you dont pull him also.
2. Once this is done all i had to do was get myself into bear form tank the 1 guard which followed the boss after i pulled. And nuke him, Shammy healed me at times needed.
3. Once this was done we we're mostly out of mana, so we decided to retreat. After we exited combat we rested and prepared to fight!
4. Nuke him, keep healing going when its needed and remember that the voidwalker goes down easy.

We had a lvl 27 warlock, two 28's (one a pally and myself a hunter), a 29 mage, and another 31 hunter. This guy is really hard! Tight spaces means no ranged attacks. Minion was banished and everyone was tagging the main guy hard but it was no use; too many immunities and those stupid frost traps! We never got him below 50%. Suggestion: Get a high level from your guild to kill this one with/for you. Caution: Guards respawn before you can rez.

i soloed him as a lv32 hunter. it took me an hour..... i died twice and feign died like a million times.....

i found it's hard to solo him if he is in Dun Modr but it's possible to solo him if he is in one of the camps and u happened to have ranged weapons or spells

here are some tips....(mainly for hunters)

its hard to pull the dark iron dwarfs around him. i only managed to pull 2 of them. others just stand there surrounding him, whichever one u attack, all of them will aggro.....

but after several tries i found out there's a way to pull him out of the crowd.
maybe there are better ways but what i did was:

1. get close to the camp
2. make sure ur pet is on passive mode
3. switch to the aspect of cheetah
4. give him any shot, i used distracting shot
5. then run
look back as u run, the minion will be faster than others
don't run too fast, keep a distance
6. beyond a certain distance, the dark iron dwarfs will stop chasing u, however, the minion will continue to chase u for a second longer(or 0.5 sec, im not sure)
7. stop running and attack the minion, send ur pet as well
8. now u will face him and his minion only

you may need to try several times before u can successfully pull him out

but it really feels good after u soloed him....

hope my tips can help

btw, im a chinese in korea, but i play on chinese servers using an english client, they still dont have tbc till now, they say its coming in sept........

oh, also something interesting, in china, all the undead characters have their bones covered with skin so they look more like a bunch of zombies..... this is because the chinese gov think the original looks are not consistent with socialism society's image or sth.....

a full team of lev 30's cant do it but a single lev 29 can solo him. ok....

well I did it with my 43 mage and a 32 druid healing me. I have pretty much every item on me + spell dmg and I aoe'd the entire camp while the druid healed.

A lev 30 cant solo this, unless someone else clears the whole camp other then him for you. the hunter method with running and pullling him out by himself sounds at lesast half doable. In reality, your not soloing this at lev 30.

The reason they can solo him now is because he's no longer elite, neither are the dark dwarves around him. Quite the change from when I 1st fought him.

Soloed as 28 rogue:

Pulled all the other mobs running around and killed them in ones and twos.

Stealth, ambush the warlock, sinister strike him, kick and gouge to interrupt casting.

Killed him, started bashing another dwarf who charged in when I ambushed the 'lock, got killed by minion and dwarf.

Walk to body, pick up ear, walk away...

Coords Confirmed at 62, 28... This quest is possible solo, work your way through the camp and try not to agro the other creatures. He does move from camp to camp so if he is not at one camp he will be at the other. Where ever he is he will have two guards by him and a minion. I had more problems out of the minion than I did him. Draw the guards seperately kill them and then take some long range shots at Balgaras. When he comes by you kill him first, then work the minion. If you die it's cool just respawn in the open field collect the ear and get ghost.

Cleared adds around Balgaras and took him out, no healing needed. ;)

My Opinion: Any healing class 30+ can solo atleast at the 61,28 Spawn Point

Soloed as a 28 priest.

Catch his attention with a couple of Holy Fires and a Chastise once he gets up close and personal. Throw Smites at him until you're about to die and cast Power Word: Shield, which should give you enough time to pop a heal and start to cast Holy Fire. Keep tossing Smites at him. Weakened Soul should wear off just in time to cast PW:Shield for a moment to heal up and start casting Holy Fire again. Finish him up with a few Smites if he's not already dead.

The only real difficulty is the fact that the mobs surrounding the camp start to pop while you're fighting him, but it's still possible to take out Balgaras' before dying. One quick corpse run later and you're the proud owner of a shiny new ear!

Edit: It definitely is easier than it used to be.

This one is easy... He is lvl 31, with a voidwalker (lvl 31) and you find him at 61,27... Just be careful, and make sure that you have cleaned the place before you attack him. I soloed this quest with a lvl 29 druid...

I did this quest solo as a level 30 hunter. He was at the farthest camp in direforge hill. He had three guys around him that I killed one by one. Then shot an arrow and got him away from the rest. It wasn't too hard.

I found Balgaras at small camp in Direfolge Hill 62.28 (Wetlands). I first killed surrounding enemys and then Balgaras with minion. Did this quest solo with lvl 34 mage.

he's at the camp to the right and he has a minion. i checked the basement of the buildings by the questgiver 2x and didn't find him. anyways, 3 hits with my twink axe was the end of him

Solo'd at 41 with a Draenei Paladin. Very tough quest to solo without ranged pull.

Put on the tank and grind em down. Needed every trick in the book to make it, Gift of the Naaru, health potion, stone statue healing me. Had to tank 5 of the wee feckers at one point.

Made it by the skin of my teeth. Killed Balgaras just as the rest of the mobs were respawning. Grabbed the ear, raised Divine Shield and legged it. Very happy to have this one out of the quest log.

yeah i was just doing this with a group, and we went through all the 5 buildings multiple times to kill the dwarves, but never saw this guy. finally we went to camp, but we died before we could find him :-\

I tried 3 times in the houses and buildings near the thandol span, and he didnt spawn once in any of them.

Instead go to the dwarf camp in the east wetlands and if you have a hunter, track humanoids and mouse over all your radar blips till you find Balgras.

He seems to spawn at this camp MUCH more often than anywhere else.

Save yourself an hour and go there FIRST!

I've a lvl 26 Druid and I can't solo him at his lvl 31. I've used my buffs and multiple scroll buffs and pots, still don't last long enough to take more than about a third of his health. He can be pulled along with his pet and I sugggest you do that because he has two Demonologists next to him and they WILL aggro if you fight him where he stands. They also have a faster respawn time if you pull and kill them first to get them out of the way, they also are lvl 30-31, I don't know if they will respawn at a lesser lvl because they didn't for me. I found Balgaras at the tent camp farthest set to the right if you are facing the 3 camps from their front.

This quest is loads easier after the 2.3 patch.

First of all none of the Dark Iron dwarves are elite anymore, including him (he is lvl30-31), and secondly he doesn't have bodyguards anymore - They are like 15 yards away from him and easily pulled (or just ignored, they are far enough away to not aggro if you fight him where he stands)

A quest that used to be the pinnacle lvl30 quest is now a 2 minute quest that I soloed at 27.

His location varies it seems. I had a group do this and we killed him in the building with all the barrels on the front by pulling him up to the big room. Some people weren't able to loot ear, so we stayed together to do it again. I left building and checked the camp area, and he had spawned out there immediately after we killed him indoors.

I think you mean the Eastern camp. At least, there is another camp to the east, and I saw this warlock there.

I soloed him at lvl 36 with my druid... took me about 2 hours to figure out the strategy (and many deaths) but here it is:

Balgras has to be at direforge hill and you should preferably have a ranged attack, but it should work with out one.

Attack his minion.... then run.

Usually there is a barren line across the ground where the minion and balgras will turn around to return to the encampment. Once you find out where that place is... aggro and run to that place and stop. All the other Dark Irons will have turned around before this point and you'll only have to fight the minion and blagras.

Since the minion was so much faster than Balgras I had it down to half life before blagras even caught up to us. Play around with this hopefully it helps

have had this quest for quite a while and finally decided i would do it. joined a pickup group in the area doing the same quest and finished it in about 5 minutes. We found him in the camps on the east side of the road.

Go5 3550xp and 150IF faction at lvl 39. Rewards are not that good.

This is a very tough task. It took a full group 27-30 to complete this. He is located in the building in the far back. He is a lvl 34 elite warlock. The strategy we used was to just focus on him and ignore his pet until he died.

I think they must have moved him. I've had 3 people SWEAR he was in the town looking place in the north, but after spending well over an hour there I never saw him. When I went to the eastern camps he was there. No fuss, no muss, no waiting.

I solo'd this at lvl 34 but not easily, except where where I fought him and have seen him everytime is not in any building, it was in the camps to the far east in Wetlands (the southern most of the two). Clear out a little of the trash(which will count toward your war quest totals) and you can get him solo fairly easily (solo + pet).

Pretty sure he goes back and forth from one to the other. I saw him respawn at one, then the other, then the first again. So it really seems like that's the case.

If you're online at a busy time, just wait by the camp for him, I'd say. Running between them only guarantees you keep missing him if your luck is as bad as mine. ;)

I found Balgaras in the fourth (standing in the middle of all five, if you count them left to right) of five houses in the lower level.
I had three others with me. We got mob attacked. I was the last one to survive when Balgaras died. I got the ear but died a few seconds later. Since all of us died, the rest were unable to get the ear.. guilt trip city for me. :(
I stuck around to try to help them defeat him again but had too many disconnection/lag problems to do so.
On the upside, I got a very cool shield (see above) out of it.

Didn't find the drop rate too bad, cleared the two camps to the northeast and got 8, so probably 1/2... They take a while to respawn though... Waiting waiting waiting for the last one grrr.

He's immune to shadow, or at least highly resistant. My lock banished his VW, and then I used fire on him. Took me three times, no deaths, just wasted several shards.

We first cleared out the inn on the first floor of all enemies and pulled Balgaras from below to us in the main room. He has his minion and a sidekick dwarf. I used polymorph on Balgaras while we destroyed his minion and sidekick without much problem. If he came out of the spell I put in right back in until we were done. Once our health/mana was restored we attacked him in sheep form and laid waste to him but draining most of our mana in the process.

OK, the previous poster who noticed that he alternatively spawns in east camps, then dun modr was right on. We got ks'd in camps, waited there for a while for respawn, looked on here, headed back to dun modr and finally found him in second building on left. My guess is that which building he spawns in dun modr is random, but the alternating between camps and dun modr is very good to know.

Found him to the east of the road to Dun Modr, in Direforge Hill.

You clear his camp, then pull him .... but he goes to other set of tents and pulls adds on group.

This guy just doesn't want to spawn at all. I have spent a ridiculous amount of time waiting for him to spawn at the eastern dwarf camps as well as hunting through all the dun modr buildings. The quest is still green to me at level 38, but it just isn't worth killing 100 more dwarves that yield no experience or soul shards just to get him.

Wowhead and Questie does not show his third location, which is in Dun Modr camp near quest NPC.
I found him deep in the Inn building, third to the left, around 46, 19.

I saw him spawn in the basement of the second house on the left in Dun Modr today.

I'm just posting to save every one some time. Once you grab, "A Grim Task" Head South-East to Direforge Hill. He's sitting at the further right encampment. Cords are 61,29. I hope this helps! Happy leveling.

Many of my soldiers died in the battle of Dun Modr. My own brother perished when the West Bridge over the Thandol Span was destroyed. Aye, the Dark Iron dwarves are a devilish breed. From what Roggo was able to gather, the leader of the thugs in the Wetlands is a warlock named Balgaras the Foul. He is quite a coward, sending his soldiers to do his bidding but hides in his camp on Direforge Hill, to the southeast.

If you can find the spineless scum, slay him and bring me his ear. I will reward you, <class>.
