The Cultist Bombers live up to their name -- watch out for them, they hurt (especially if all 3 are aggroed on someone.) You have about three or four seconds to move. (Ow.)

I soloed this as a DK specced in blood for tanking with 26,7k hp. I used my pvp gear, which consists of two pieces of savage gladiator, one hateful gladiator, and most of the hateul items that can be bought for honor. Also the helm, boots and bracers from Wintergrasp. Everything with iLvl 200. I killed Chillmaw, and died just after he did, then I ressed and killed the rest (the graveyard is nearby). I used all the selvhealing I have, Vampiric Blood, Lifeblood, Rune Tap, Mark of Blood, Death Pact and a Runic Healing Potion. I also used Icebound Fortitude, Army of the Dead and my ghoul. I did it in Frost Presence. I have Improved Blood Presence, so I got a bit healing from that too.

Here are a map that shows his whereabouts for those without coordinates. He flies around in this area. He respawns fairly quick.

I was able to solo this as a Feral (tanking, 0/60/11) Druid. I basically kited Chillmaw around in a large circle using Maul (I have the Maul Glyph), Swipe, Lacerate (for the bleed, and it can crit with Primal Gore), and Mangle. I also popped Berserk and spammed Mangle as much as possible.

As someone said previously, kiting is definitely the way to go so as to avoid the damage from the bombs the three adds place.

I did not have to use any of my survival cooldowns, and was only buffed with MotW and Thorns. I am 5/5 Valorous, as well as mostly pre-Ulduar BiS for a tanking Druid, except for helm, legs, and neck.

I was able to solo this as a protection warrior. I have 3 T7.5 and a couple of pieces from Ulduar 25, and following the feral druid's advice I kited backward in a circle and had no trouble. Whenever the cultists would get close I'd either shockwave, concussion blow, or fear and keep on the dragon until it was dead. I used my Shield wall/Last Stand/Enraged Regen combo to heal once, but otherwise no healing was available. The bombs are the only real danger.

Soloed as a PvE spec Arcane Mage (no slow) after a few failed attempts.

- Wait for Chillmaw to path by
- Pop Mirror Image
- Blow all cooldowns (For me it was the following)
- Arcane Power
- Icy Veins
- Hyperspeed Accelerators (Engineering glove enchant)
- Presence of Mind (Once Arcane Power wears off)
- Mana Gem for 2-Piece T7 spellpower bonus
- I dont have any "Use" trinkets, but this would be the time to use them
- Spam Arcane Blast (Dont Barrage/Missle)

Using this I was able to nuke Chillmaw down before the last of my Images died.

Once Chillmaw dies, sheep one of the Bombardiers, and Arcane Barrage/Fireblast while kiting the other two around.

Also, Fireward helps while fighting the Bombardiers incase you cant always move out of the dynamite explosions.

Chillmaw melees on cloth for around 3300

Don't know what all the down-rating for the people who are adding insightful information about how to solo him is about. Jealous that someone else can do something you can't, or what?

Anyway, I found that killing the adds quickly as they jump off his back will save you trouble later on. Especially as enhancement, I can blow all my cooldowns early on, get 2 to jump off and kill them before my earth elemental bites the dust. From there it's a close fight, but I can usually outheal Chillmaw and just kill him next, saving the third grenadier for last.

Killing him as resto wasn't a challenge, just time-consuming. I would rather team up with a buddy than do that again.

Solod as Affliction warlock in decent gear.
Tactics.
1. send your voidwalker to tank for you.
2. put up corruption for some healing (siphon life)
3. heal your pet
4. when the voidwalker has built up some threat you can start putting up more dots.
5. kite the adds (bombers) with corruption and CoA
6. Profit

Duo'ed as a prot warrior and frost mage. Chillmaw himself doesn't hit very hard. He flies a good 20 yards above the ground, so you will need to range pull him or body pull him on your flying mount. When Chillmaw starts getting low on health three level 80 "elite" Cultist Bombardiers will be summoned one shortly after another. However, they're not actually elites in that they don't hit anywhere near elite damage.

Chillmaw

Melee hits for 1500 after mitigation against a tank (can be fully blocked).
Frost breath for 3000+.

Cultist Bombardiers have three attacks and have just a little more health than your average level 80 mob:

400 melee damage (after mitigation).
1100 fire damage from their "Throw Dynamite" spell. Cast regularly.
Drops ticking "Time Bombs" at irregular intervals that will detonate for 4000-5000 damage after a short period. Can be avoided by simply moving away from the stationary bomb.

I got credit for this in a strange way.
I saw a hunter (and possibly a rogue with him but I didn't see the rogue untill later) engage Chillmaw, I /Say Inv plz but got no invite and I jumped in to help anyway, the Hunter died, I killed Chillmaw and died, I resed in Chillmaw's corpse to find myself on res hp with half my armour red and 3 Bombardiers on me. I killed 2 bombardiers, died and resed again, same thing with nearly all my armour red and killed the last Bombardier, with 500 hp left. I got credit. So I grouped with the other 2 to repeat the Quest.

Easy to solo as a shaman of any spec. Just pop fire elemental/bloodlust and burn him down. He only has 100k health. It's probably easiest as enhancement, since the heals from your wolves will let you just convert most of your maelstroms into damage.

This is a very popular daily on most servers.* While many people may be able to solo it, I would recommend putting up a quick "LFG Threat from Above" in /general. There's no loot to share from the boss, so you might as well group with other players to finish it faster. Plus, you can all fly down together and knock out Battle Before The Citadel. It's not a group quest, but having a group makes it much faster.

*If you're on a high population server, watch out for trigger-happy players and groups that will tag your bombers. Keep a ground AoE under the boss, if possible.

Managed to solo as a Survival Hunter 3rd time of asking.

I used a Gorilladin (Blood of The Rhino and high threat generation). MD to pet, let pet charge and thunderstomp. Keep sure mend pet stays up and when adds come, Wyvern one, Freezing arrow another, and let the other do his thang.

My pet died as Chillmaw died, so I just tidied up killing the 3 adds with relative ease.

I did this in pvp gear for additional pet hp through scaling and Wild Hunt.

Ofc, i would advise getting another person or people to do the quest with, but if it's early hours of the morning and you will not accept defeat - this tactic does work.

It is however, difficult!

P.S, This should be much easier for BM hunters as you can full nuke without worrying about Pet aggro issues.

Easily Soloable by a Deathknight in average gear. Put on all the stam gear you have( I had around 24k in Frost presence. Use army of the dead. Summon then sac. ghoul if HP is low, Pop cooldowns if nessecary

Story of a Resto Druid Soloing (No PvP gear)

So it was 4:00 in the morning (server time/my time - same thing) and no one besides me was doing Chillmaw. Well I went Resto for the fight just to be safe. The fight took 9 Minutes and 30 Seconds with 25% of my Damage coming from Thorns.

Here was my strat: Place a cozy fire next to you, that 4 spirit might help. Hot yourself up with Regrowth and Rejuv and engage the boss. Keep Regrowth and Rejuv on at all times. (I prioritized Regrowth because of my Glyph of Regrowth) When the boss uses Frost Breath, throw Lifebloom on youself because Chillmaw seems to hit harder after a breath or something. The stacks of Lifeblooms to use depends on your health at the time. Also, keep Chillmaw dotted with Moonfire at all times possible, and whenever possible, use Wrath. When he drops an add, you'll want to Cyclone the add and get distance from him. If you don't wish to keep track of Chillmaw's breath at this time, slow-roll Lifebloom and keep Swiftmend ready. When the add breaks from the Cyclone, use Roots and Moonfire. Focus on getting away from Time Bombs and killing the add. On the third and final add, Chillmaw should have as much health as the add, kill Chillmaw (health is still most important) then finish the add. Obviously, mana is an issue. Use innervate as soon as you get to 3kish mana for you can use it later on. If you need mana and Innervate is CD, pop in to tree form for bonus spirit and just chill out and regen mana.

As it was rather late and I couldn't get a group together, I thought I'd give this a go on my Warrior, just barely managed it with some hardcore strategy.

All I did was charge>rend>retaliation>bladestorm, fear the adds when there's 1 or 2, finish chillmaw off by shieldwalling+ popping enrage regeneration (shield block up + spamming revenge) by this time you should be around 20% health, just run from the 3 adds and reset them, eat food and go back and bladestorm their ass and win.

I soloed this as an arcane mage after several tries. I believe that you might need luck if attempting the following strategy as your images must stay up for atleast around 15 seconds so that you can nuke the crap out of chillmaw. I used dampen magic and popped images and ran under chillmaw who flew directly to the images. I put fire ward, blinked, popped all cooldowns (icy veins, arcane power) and nuked chillmaw down in like 15-20 secs. After that I killed one bombardier before dying. I cursed myself (thinking I will have to bring chillmaw down again) and rezzed only to find that the two other bombardiers had not despawned. I easily brought them down. As I said before, for the strategy to work, the images have to be up for around 15 secs so that you can nuke chillmaw down. In my previous attempts, the images went down in like 5-10 secs from her frost breath and I would die after getting chillmaw to about 30%.

This might not be news to some, but this is soloable as a combat rogue in decent gear. Unless you get unlucky with evasion bringing Chillmaw down isn't really a problem. Just make sure you have available self-buffs and be prepared to go again if you miss 1 or more bombardiers.

My ultimate Chillmaw tagging macro -

/cleartarget
/target Chillmaw
/stopmacro
/stopmacro
/dismount
/cast >Replace with instant cast spell<

This macro will:
1. Clear your target (this needs to be here or else the macro won't work correctly).
2. Targets/tries to target Chillmaw.
3. Stops working IF there is no Chillmaw.
4. Stops working IF Chillmaw is dead.
5. Dismounts you (So you can be on flying mount while waiting for Chillmaw).
6. Casts spells of your choice, it HAS to be instant cast spell and preferably long range.

So basically, get on your flying mount, be near the spawn place, and spam this macro :)
Don't fly too high though!

Guide to soloing this as a holy paladin:

First of all, have halfway decent gear. I had full epics when I first solo'd this--some were Naxx, others were Triumph.

Set-Up

Use Kings and Concentration Aura--unless you're confident that you can heal through the damage, at which point you should use Retribution. Make sure you have spec'd Holy Shock. Glyph of Seal of Wisdom and Flash of Light can help. Set your action bar up so that you can access to Consecrate, Sacred Shield, Shield of Righteousness, Holy Shock, and your judgment of choice. I used Wisdom along with Seal of Wisdom in order not to run out of mana. What you do here is up to you; if you're confident in your ability to heal through damage, then go ahead and rock a different seal/judgment.

Make sure Divine Please is set up where you can get to it. Use your wings if you want. I didn't since this fight is mostly about staying power.

The Fight

Make sure Sacred Shield stays up the whole fight. I pulled with my Judgement, but you can just as easily pull with Exorcism. Slap down a Consecrate (keep 100% uptime), judge, hit Holy Shock and Shield of Righteousness when you can. Eventually a bomber will come down. Switch DPS to him. During this part of the fight the healing started getting more intense. I would regularly take a 5k hit followed by a 4k hit in a very short amount of time. This can easily kill you, so be careful with your health. For this part I HS'd myself and FoL'd to full for the most part. Keep Consecrete up, DPS down the adds. It takes a long time, but eventually you'll get down all the adds (three spawn in total but I think there's never more than one up at a time? not certain, but that's how it worked out for me). After that it's easy. Just don't forget your mana cooldowns, or your bubble.

Shaman soloing guide:
I did this one on my shamy with resto gear (resto is mainspec) but I respeced to Elemental to solo this quest.
Probably would be doable as restoration as well, but it would take too much time.
My gear is ilevel 245/251/264.

Key to this fight is dodgeing bombs. If you manage to do that, consider this quest done.

First, tag Chillmaw with Flame Shock and summon earth elemental.
Nuke Chillmaw with your standard rotation, but remember to heal elemental as well.

When first add appears, kite it a bit away, and nuke it down asap.
Avoid those ticking bombs.

Use Tunderstorm if Chillmaw and add are attacking you or if your low on health.

That's about it, quite easy.

Btw, my elemental died when Chillmaw was around 5% hp.

Heroism / Bloodlust: I didn't use it for this fight, but if you have lower gear then me, you might need to.

I soloed this with a Shadow Priest in T9 gear (obtained simply from heroics, I don’t get a chance to raid). Here are a few tips I have from my experience.

As all the above comments state the key to soloing this is to keep moving. Those time bombs can take you out really quick.

I would strongly suggest being speced into improved vampiric embrace to take care of your healing so you don’t have to leave shadow form. Make sure to re-shield yourself every time weakened soul debuff wears off. Then just simply DoT Chilmaw up and keep moving around. Don’t worry to much on using mind flay and using mind blast on every cool down. Instead just make sure to keep moving and stay alive, eventually your DoTs will take him out. Obviously if your doing fine on movement and you can get in a quick mind blast go for it. Then once Chillmaw is down the Cultists aren't much of a challenge, just DoT and move from the timed bombs.

With a little patience and allot of movement you can solo him with no problems.

Quite easy to solo as feral druid dps with emblem gear. i has about 25k health in bearform and approx 35% dodge.
all you need to do is to use mangle at beginning and the rest of the fight maul, lacerate and swipe when the adds jump in.
if your getting low on health just pop survival instincts and use frenzied regeneration. berserk is not a must but helps killing the 3 adds that come and in the end i still have about 5 to 10k health left.

This can be solo'd as a warrior as well. ICC geared warriors can probably do it in nearly any setup. For those less geared, it can be done fairly easily as fury in prot gear (and 2H weapon). Use Bloodthirst (I have it glyphed) every chance and Heroic Strike/Cleave and Whirlwind when you have enough rage. If you get into trouble, use your mitigation cooldowns and feel free to use Intimidating Shout to buy some time from the cultists.

Can solo as a 80 combat rogue with around a 5.6k gs. Pull, evasion, killing spree, and pop all cds. (AD, BF, and I have the Mark of Supremacy trinket). Then just make sure to run away from the bombs dropped by the adds and you should be all set.

I soloed this as a Frost spec Mage. I had my Water Elemental sit along the hill side and I ran up it. When Chillmaw approached, I had the Elemental start the engagement, I refreshed my Ice Barrier, Mana Shield and Frost Ward. I then brought up my Mirror Image, used my Talisman of Resurgence and Icy Veins. As Chillmaw came toward me, the Mirror Image caught his agro and I blinked to my Elemental where I spammed Frostbolt on him. He dropped before my damage shields dropped. I dropped 2 of the bombers while my elemental soloed the third.

Solo'd as a disc priest, simply kited him to the shadow vault then faded him onto the npcs.
I did have to kill him twice though as I didn't get a tag on one of the adds. Luckily it's an instant respawn.

Highlord Tirion Fordring has doubled the guard since your exposure of the Cult of the Damned's infiltrator. He doesn't believe that they will stop just because their Black Knight has been defeated.

Our skytalon scouts have reported sighting a frost wyrm named Chillmaw leading a cult raiding party. If we don't intercept them, the tournament will come under attack. The scouts reporting seeing Chillmaw to the southwest, flying over the area between the Ironwall Rampart and Aldur'thar.
