I suggest just using moves that count as weapon strikes, such as Scourge/Blood/Death Strike. Spells like Icy Touch and Death Coil don't count towards hits with the poker, so all you're doing is killing the mobs faster.

Best way to do this quest, is to only auto-attack. Be ready to stop attacking once the persuasion symbol appears (Mob is stunned).
If no result after it times out, start auto-attacking again.

Make sure you do this away from the zombie NPCs, the first time I go an answer, the zombies killed my target before I could complete the quest. It took me around 20 more kills to complete. Quite frustrating.

Me and my friend got this done almost the same way.

We attacked priests in dual-wield and for me it was the male priest cuz am female and for my friend it was the female priest as he was male. (odd but funny)

I got this in one try, just equip the swords given (duel-wield) and just auto-attack until they confess. Make sure your attacking a higher lvl scarlet not the lowbies.

A good tip for this Q is to locate 'Scarlet Lord Jesseriah McCree' and wait for him to attack the ghouls. They'll tank him (but never kill him, he has loads of HP) and you can keep autoattacking him without having to switch mobs when they die. Should you run out of ghouls, you'll be able to survive easily; If needed, use one of the Runic Power + Health pots from The Plaguebringer's Request.

Best way I've found to do this is to take off all your gear except the pokers and then just auto attack. You will do much less damage so the mob lives a lot longer in order to get off more stuns and chances for them to cave and complete the quest for you.

Also, as of 3.0.8, it seems that if you have multiple mobs on you and one of them completes the quest it bugs and kicks you off the server.

Most annoying quest ever. Despite it being fun to interrogate people, the amount of times you may end up doing it is ridiculous.

On my first DK, I spent about 20 mins doing it and just today on my second, I spent about an hour trying to get it. But I guess I can't complain, at least we dont have to deal with murloc's (*mumbles* I hate murloc's)

I have found out that if you first hit a Scarlet Crusader with your normal 2hand weapon (not sure if you need to, but i used plague strike) and then switch to the 2 1hand quest items, the Crusader ALWAYS tells you what you need to know immediatly. Just my 2 cents.

I got the confession on literally the first strike. Pull out my pokers, one hit on a Scarlet Commander and done. I was amazed, because I knew this usually took a few dozen kills of mindless autoattack to achieve.

Right before the last text line, a pack of ghouls came and killed him.

Was 39 mobs before I got another confession.

While the randomness is indeed annoying, I enjoy this quest for the simple fact that I can grind xp with very little effort and still finish a quest eventually. I will admit I was pleased the first 3 or 4 times I did this quest, I finished on the first mob. Today, it's taking far more kills than I like. Still, easy xp (I stop to heal about once every 5 mobs or so), easy silver, and every once in a while a green drop.

Crappy quest design, to be sure, but worth it in the end.

And does anyone else enjoy the sheer irony of a scarlet preacher spilling the beans?

Few things to note for this quest.
1. Auto attacking is the way to go.
2. It seems as thou the weapons have a internal cooldown. this of course meaning it will only work again after a set amount of time.
3 After many attempts i narrowed it down to about 5-9 secs internal cooldown.

Because of this, i found the best way to do this quest is get a mob and begin autoattacking, the moment it procs. hit your esc key to stop attacking..if it didnt work start counting from the moment it was applied to the mob. and hit again, this way you do get alot of white damage and kill the mob. it will proc off the bat again. continue this till it tell you what u want to know. Simple as that:) killed 30-40 mobs before noticing it had a CD on it. and then just had one mob and did no damage to it. got it to spill the beans:) GL

First time I did this quest, it took me about 100 skills. If it just was a "normal" quest, it would be smart to just skip it, but since you need it to get the follow-ups, that's not an option. So, put on music, and start farming! ;)

I think the swords have an internal cooldown on the proc. If this is true, the best way to get many more stuns on one mob (and increase your chances of confession per mob) is to stop auto-attacking once you see the stun, then back away. Wait at least 5 seconds after the stun wears off before you begin attacking again.

This is how I dit it.. I equipped the 2 weapons and unequipped the rest of my gear, this way you have more time to torture the mob. I started hitting the melee ones, the third one was one on a horse... I got it fast.

Oddly, I'd killed what feels like at least dozens of Scarlet, went here for some advice, stripped down to just the pokers in order to do less damage -- and the next two hits *both* caused jibbering confessions rather then complaints that I was doing *too little* damage. I can't think why that'd be other then a bug, but it worked...

So there I was, on my 50th or so Scarlet, and finally one of them decides to talk. While I'm listening to him, ANOTHER Scarlet notices me and comes over to rough me up a bit. I've already got one of them talking to me, I figure I don't need another, so I opt to kill him as quickly as I can. Well, on the FIRST PROC, the guy breaks down and decides to tell me everything.

So basically I killed about fifty guys, then got two in a row to talk.

Confirming this is random, I got it on my first attack and only had to hit a crusader once to get the right dialog (They will say, Stop I'll tell you everything".

Meanwhile my girlfriend was right beside me on her DK and it took her 20+ kills.

So yeah, if you don't get it right away, don't give up, it may just take awhile (i'd do nothing but auto attack just in case that influences it somehow).

The easiest and fastest way to do this is to blood strike them once, and stop attacking. Once the smoke goes away, blood strike again. Rinse, repeat.
Blood strike immediately causes the questioning effect.

It's really just random on whether you get the info on certain hits or not. My advice:
When they are stunned STOP ATTACKING. You get a lot more hits in that way, thus a larger chance for them to speak.

What I've done is equip one of the swords and hit the mob once he talks wait another 5 seconds without attacking and then attack again and it should do it instantly and repeat the method.

Damn I #$%^ing hate this quest. I've been killing a metric #$%^ ton of Scarlets now ... nothing... (using the pokers of course).

Funny thing is... the quest gets harder the longer you do it. You skill up 1-Hand swords, thus hit more often, do more damage, kill them faster, have to find new targets faster instead of whacking on one for quite a while.

Ok guys did it on 3rd kill.

Here's what happened at the gate with ghouls wached on 2 horses guys. nothing bu defiance.

I'm almost dead (20%) so the last one I icy frist, ds, ss, and run then turn around icy him once more and he spills the beans. He his now at the end of the gate next to the crytp where this starts.

sounds like a way to glitch it.

You'll know you've succeeded when one of them makes you stop attacking them, gives a little speech, then dies.

When I did this quest, it was buggy. They'd give the speech, but I wouldn't get quest completion. Dropping it and redoing it worked.

I'm a dwarf, and I love dual wield. So, as soon as I equiped the "persuaders", I sold the initial sword and went "upstairs" to put runes on my new swords. What I didn't realize was: He takes them back when the quest is over!

Fortunately, "buyback" was still active (I hadn't signed out), so I was able to get my old sword back.

Playing through this on Classic, and remembering how this went way back when, the comments about the randomness of the proc could be wrong. Try unequipping armor (have a healing pot handy, and then only auto-attack until you get the proc. Stop attacking, count to 8-mississippi, then auto-attack until the proc. Rinse, repeat. After 6-7 procs of the weapons' ability, you should have a high chance of getting the info you need.

Just FYI the quest giver drops a red box into your bags that looks just like a jewelers kit.
You have to open that and equip the weapon(s) on your character. (You can choose one or two handers)
Then get to fighting.

all you need is to equip Keleseth's Persuader then hit Scarlet guards, hit once, and it talks, then hit again, it talks again, and hits third if it's the one it will keep talking, but if it's not it will die.
