Be sure to read the quest for this one. What you need to do is pick up 25 Zul'Drak Rats in total (both the rats and basilisks in question are found in Drak'Agal, northeast of Apprentice Pestlepot) and throw 5 rats at each basilisk to "pacify" them and collect the crystal that you need. Killing them won't do anything!

Ive just did this as a Druid, and do not Hibernate the crosilisks. If they get the 5 rat debuff when they are hibernated they will just de-spawn and not leave a sleeping-bloated one to loot.

Easy to do as a rogue. Sap the basilisk, and use your first 4 rats on it. Now hit it once, and use the fifth rat. Don't use 5 while it's sapped, though, as it despawns after the 5th without spawning its' gorged replacement.

Make sure your inventory isn't full, or the basilisk will just despawn and you have to collect another 5 rats.

Also, you will need to make sure you don't feed the basilisk the 5th rat while it is next to any thorns or other obstructions. The new sleeping basilisk you loot is larger than the original basilisk, and if it can't spawn without bumping into a thorn, it won't spawn.

Also hunter Freezing Traps will cause them to despawn as well. But the break trap before 5th rat does work nicely.

Remember to throw 5 separate rats in quick succession. I was throwing only 1 for a while (thinking a 5 stack would be thrown) and was wondering why things weren't triggering.

Also as a Death Knight - Simply just keep Chains of Ice up while you keep debuffing him, it cause no despawning.

Mages: not only are you supposed to not kill it, you should also not damage it at all. So click away Molten Armor buff before you start feeding, else the buff will do damage to the basilisk.

As warlock, just fear and feed *up to 4* them. Feed the 5th when fear ends.

Would work for any class able to fear I guess.

First. Collect 25 Rats you see on the ground. Than find a Lurking Basilisk (looks like an aligator), Click on the rats in your bag 5 times. There is a .5 second cold down between the rats. Once you have clicked on all 5 rats. While the Lurking Basilisk was targeted you simply click the big aligator and there is your quest. You have to do that five times. Thats why I suggest getting all 25 rats first. Than going for the Basilisk.

Make sure you loot your Basilisk Crystal fast. As of 11/28/08 anyone can run up and loot it before you.

Press V on your keyboard and the rats will show up from several yards away (it shows their health bars, which are clickable). No more searching. Seriously, do it.

Making a macro to /target Zul'Drak Rat made finding them so much easier, click, pan around and locate.

I have 3 tips for this one (probably given before)

1) It may help to turn off Specular Lighting so you can see the rats better ....that or use "V" to show the nameplates

2) Fearing them as a lock and feeding the rats doesn't work. The corpse you're meant to loot never shows up

3) Best place to catch rats is by the stairs up to Zim'torga or up the stairs where you get the quest to collect the dead wood. One has lots of rats after you kill a couple of Basilicks the other has very little mobs at all.

Someone might have wrote it but it helped me a lot to see the little buggers by macro-targetting them to atleast see their footplates in the water.

If, by some chance, you DO happen to damage the gorged basilisk, it will aggro on you and start attacking you; you won't be able to loot it. However, simply get it to drop aggro and it will return to its sleeping state, allowing you to loot it. Don't panic!

watch your AoE around the gorged basalisks. i accadentally shadowflamed one while i was killing an add, and it woke up and attacked; you cant loot it for the crystals after you kill it, of course. i would assume that you could use another 5 rats on it, but i never tested this.

NOTES TO REMEMBER

1. You only use (1) rat per when using it on Lurking Basilisk (got to spam rats 5 times)
2. You don't have to kill the Lurking Basilisk, (5) rats on the target will put it to sleep it!
3. Right click the crystal

If the newly spawned sleeping basilisk is in any ground effect, it will aggro on you instead on staying lootable. Hunters, if you lay down a frost trap to keep it slowed, make sure it's out of the area of effect before you throw your 5th rat.

1. Get the 25 rats
2. Find the Lurking Basilisk they look like alligators - Click on the Lurking Basilisk then click on the rat in your inventory five times. it should toss the rat at the Lurking Basilisk, it will get FAT you see the ZZzzzzz (sleep) click on Lurking Basilisk and your done..
- "DONT YOU OR YOUR PET KILL IT" you'll take a little damage but very little as you feed it.

Many people are confused about this.. You need to hit them with 5x RATS then just click on them and take the crystal.. Easy :P

Pet classes, set your pet on passive or they will enter combat when you throw your first rat.

This is a very easy quest. It requires following the instructions in the quest text very literally. Here's the walk-through:

First, do Mushroom Mixer at the same time. The mushrooms are in the same area, so why not double up?

Drak'Agal is immediately to the east of the Argent Stand (where the quest giver is). I did both this one and Mushroom Mixer at 47,66 and thereabouts.

There are little rats running all over the place. When you mouse over them, the cursor does not become a blade, it becomes the circle/arrow thing, like when you deal with a vendor.

Click on a rat. It will automagically be picked up. The rat will vanish and Zul'Drak Rat will appear in your bags. Do this 5 times. You will need 5 Zul'Drak rats for each basilisk crystal.

When you have 5 Zul'Drak Rats, find a basilisk and start hurling the rats at the basilisk. Don't fight the basilisk. It will attack you once it realizes who is pelting it with rats, but you should just keep tossing rats at it until you've heaved all 5. When you hit it with the 5th rat, it will fall asleep and you can loot it. You will get 1 crystal.

Repeat until complete. Piece of cake.

The basilisks will attack you but just keep throwing rats and they will fall asleep and you can loot them.

Yeah so you can keybind "Interact" and use that on these guys once targeted. Great for if you have a /tar macro - you /tar them and spam interact and they'll get picked up as soon as you're in range. Also can be done in druid flight form.

My master, Finklestein, is in the shrine at Heb'Valok to the northwest preparing a truth serum, and he needs basilisk crystals. Heb'Valok is on the west side of the road leading north before the Altar of Sseratus.

There are basilisks to the east at Drak'Agal.

If you grab the Zul'Drak rats and throw them at the basilisk, they will become gorged and docile after eating five. Then you'll be able to take their crystals.

Killing the basilisk won't do you any good. That'd just break its crystals!
