At default controls, you use '2' to call for a soldier. The soldier will come running from the back with the fear symbol over his head. Use '1' on the gun to shoot fireballs at the ghouls surrounding your soldier. He'll eventually make his way to the front and be rescued.

I struggled with this quest at first because I was trying to use the "clickable" arrows to control the pitch of the gun and I just couldn't aim my gun fast enough to keep the mobs off the soldiers. Then I realized that you can control the pitch of the gun by simply changing your camera angle and it became quite easy.

Aim by changing your camera angle to "look" directly where you want to shoot, then spam your 1 button to destroy things! Actually a very fun quest after you get the hang of the controls.

Is it just me or does the gun not actually fire half the time? every time i press it it just comes out as little balls of fire, sometimes it will actually do the skill and the button will refresh anyone else getting that?

I spent a while trying to figure out how to aim the gun. I clicked around and eventually figured it out. I had to aim the gun with both mouse buttons and moving the mouse around. I suspect this is because I have Camera Following Style set to "Always".

Ok it may just be me but when i first started the quest the lil balls of fire did aoe dmg now they wont do any dmg at all. not a single point of dmg has been done last 5 times i tried this.

Update: Ok just finished this quest and yes i was right tried both sides and did same on both so i logged off and logged right back ina nd climbed on a gun using targeting method above was able to do this with lil effort.

As of November 18, 2008, there is no cooldown on the "Call Out Soldier" ability of the chaingun. spam 2 about 40 times and watch hilarity ensue as 40 soldiers have a rat race to the stairs (and safety).

Reminds me somewhat of MXC (Most Extreme Elimination Challenge) that was on SPIKE Television.

If you have problems with the control (e.g. cannot aim correctly, mobs won't take damage, NPCs won't appear) and you are using a action bar addon, try disabling it. I had to disable Dominos for the controls to work properly.

I can't seem to complete this quest, even after reading the advice here. I'm also having trouble with the gun seemingly not firing all the time, and I can't call out any NPCs after the first one. It's frustrating when I can't call them out, can't fire the gun, and then also can't "cancel" the gun and have to stand there until the time runs out. I don't know if it's glitched or if I just suck at this. :D

Edited to add, whoops, forgot I could just exit vehicle. :) Also, I abandoned the quest and picked it up again and now can't call out ANY soldiers. Relogging fixed it!

Call out as many soldiers as you can with the 10 sec cooldown. This will split up the ghouls and save some time. It also helps when they killed one and become evaded while running back to their position. Sacrificed some guys and you can finish it quickly, though it is sort of cruel. :-D

This quest is so fun if you know what to do. I have mostly default settings for things, so I just held down both mouse buttons to move my camera around, and spammed 1 while aiming at the soldier.

I found it easiest to actually aim at the soldier, that way your hitting the guys around them. Got it first try.

On the MAC, I held down the Right mouse button to aim the gun, then spammed 1 and 2 to complete - camera was set to smart follow.

Hey all, Just thought I would say that I put off doing this quest cos of the comments it sounded too glitchy and hard to do....I went back and stumbled upon it by accident...its ridiculously easy and I had no problems with lag at all...
go to the gun in front of the mobs....
click on it....underneath are two buttons
1 fires your gun (good advise to just use your mouse to aim with the camera just keep pressing 1 (it will already be linked)
2 calls forth a guard...just remember to keep hitting it cos I forgot lol.... dead easy...and I did it in a couple of minutes.....:D really enjoyed this one

I have observed Female Draenei who do this quest will be forced to constantly do the /train emote while in control of the gun. o.O

u can get more than 1 soldier by clicking number 2 more than once u might get 3 together so it can be faster.

Alright like almost all vehicle quests, and yes this is a vehicle quest as thats what wow treats it as if your haveing trouble with the buttons not working, attemt to relog, if that doesnt work log out again and disable your addons.

A good indicator that it isnt working is that there is no cooldown when you press the fire button and the fire has no cool down, or the bullets do no damage. Also if pressing the call soldier does nothing and has no cooldown .. its also glitched. if you encounter the verhicle glitch just do as said above.

Im really hopeing that blizz finds away around this because relogging everytime you get one of these quests gets annoying. Good luck and happy hunting

Just to make it clear,the quest is done INSIDE the Mausoleum!

#You use one of the 2cannons placed right to the quest giver.
#You press 2,then spam 1 till the feared soldier comes to you,try to get all undead mobs down

Indeed.
Use First persoon view camera. This makes aiming much easier.
Press right mouse button down. This shall move aim freely and faster.
Use CTRL+2 to call a soldier. He spawns behind the room.
Keep firing with CTRL+1 at the foot of the soldier. Don't worry, unlimited ammo. Just keep firing...
Only aiming at soldier, the splash damage does the work to kill mobs around him.
Keep it until the soldier is safe.
Now press CTRL+2 for next soldier call.

Repeat it and you're done! :)

My char keeps 'yelling' behind the cannon :o

Make the following macro:

/cast call out injured soldier
/cast call out injured soldier
/cast call out injured soldier
/cast call out injured soldier
/cast call out injured soldier
/cast call out injured soldier
/cast call out injured soldier
/cast call out injured soldier

hotkey it to anything, forinstance I use g to mounts, so just slap it on there. then once you are in the gun, press the hot key you selected and you'll spawn 8 soldiers at once! speeds this up a whole lot.

i did it without the the chain gun.. except the summoning ofcourse, if you are a frost mage just summon the soldier, jump of the gun, run or blink to him, and use your arcane explosion while having your Ice barrier on. they won't stand a chance and die in 1 hit.

Unlike some other vehicle quests, if ghouls start attacking you while you're on the chain gun, they will do direct damage to you and can kill you if the Alliance NPCs don't kill them. Usually they DO kill them pretty quickly, but be wary in case of the rare exception...

You CAN shoot the ghouls directly next to your gun, if it comes to that.

It's becouse of arseholes like you not posting the info..

Any way if anyone wants to know how to do it. Use the guns to the side if the quest giver. And shot the mobs untill the guy your saving is safe

Hold down your mouse button and direct the aim of the gun with your mouse. Fire using shortcut key 1.

I do believe this quest is bugged... i try to call for soldier and i have to hit the button dozens of times, and when i shoot it does no damage but every now and then... grrr blizzard...

I think this quest is bugged, myself and others in my guild have had problems shooting and calling for the soldier in this quest. it workks sometimes but its annoying as hell...

We've set up chain guns and barricades directly to the east and to the west. Our injured soldiers are hiding in both rooms - trying their best to not alert the mindless ghouls to their presence.

Now that we have ammo, I need you to man one of the chain guns and use it to blast a path clear for our soldiers! Once you're on board, call a soldier out from hiding and then lay down heavy fire to keep the Scourge off him!
