Make sure you have the Knight targeted to kill and not the horse. :)

Loot the Riding Crop, use it on the horse and take it back to Hansel Bauer. Your toolbar will have a skill to return the horse.

This quest is bugged.
If you try to hand inthe horse, it will not accept.

The tip i can give you is, target Hansel Bauer and spamclick the "return horse" button.... sometimes it works

I captured a horse, ran back to the place you are supposed to return it then just spammed 1 for return horse i tried to keep moving the horse back to the npc and spamming 1. Doing this got me all 3 horses but by only capturing 1 actual horse.

People trying to help can complicate this quest a lot - I've lost three horses to friendly fire before I could finish taming them. Also, it would seem that a crop from one knight will not work on another's horse.

Moonkin can ride the horse from this quest without shifting, since it's a vehicle! :D I've provided a screenshot, pending approval.

Boomkins might be interested in knowing this-- You can ride the horse as a big owlbeast if you use the crop while in boomie form, looks hilarious!

Best place to find them is around the outside of New Hearthglen using the macro u will have it done in no time.

The Horses are located at New Hearthglen, 71.71
There aren't too many horses, you have to look around in Hearthglen,
an advise is to head down the path to Crusader's Landin wich starts at 73,74.
It isn't as many ppl down there so there's alot more horses that hasn't been killed yet.
When you have found one you need to kill its rider first.
When you have done so you must loot the rider to get the item you need to controll it
Then use it at the horse and ride it back to Venom Spite.

It is possible to loot a knight and use the rood on another horse.
Forgot myself once and killed the horse accidently, so it is possible if you would do the same mistake

I am very confused, I thought I was doing this quest, but when I turned in the horse I picked a reward. The quest is still in my log. Did I somehow complete another quest to steal just one horse? Also when I turned it in, I had to click the red arrow to dismount before I could complete it.

I didn't have to dismiss my pet, but I did have to target the warhorse to be able to mount it.

If you have a pet, once the knight is dead, be sure to make it passive as soon as the knight is dead, otherwise it will try to kill the warhorse. If the horse has been caught in an AOE, it can die before you can mount it. The warhorse won't seriously damage your pet before you can mount. Also be sure to have your pet target the knight and not the horse.

To turn in the quest, I *had* to target the questgiver to turn in the reins.

I can confirm that this seems bugged. Whether this is addon related I'm unsure, though I did disable Recount for the duration of this quest.

Even doing that, however, I had to spam the '1' key before it finally actually handed over the horse when at Hansel Bauer.

its not bugged quest. already did it..

just find riders on road or camps. kill riders and loot it. u ll see an item like riding crop.. use it on horse and ride it to back camp.

thats all so this quest is finishable..

I am in the Middle of doing this quest and the action buttons for my pet just disappeared ..... weird

Update I had to log off and log back on the get the buttons back ..... bottom line the quest sucks

The quest bugged for me a bit, but in a different way. Sometimes the riders were invisible. If that's the case, tab target the rider and don't kill the horse first, or you'll have a riding crop and nothing to do with it.

Randomly, the horses and their riders aren't linked. You can kill the riders from ranged whilst the horse will neither aggro or bring the rider into melee range where he can fight back.

In another strange mechanic, the horses don't reset.

This means you can complete the quest in literally a minute by doing this:

1. Kill 3 riders.
2. Run around and loot the riding crops.
3. Use a riding crop to mount a horse
4. Aggro the other 2 loose horses
5. Bring them all back to the quest npc
6. Hand in the horse, use crop on the next horse, hand it in, use crop on last horse and hand it in also

To all the rogues. Don't sap the horse before fighting the rider. You will mount the horse and go nowhere for about a minute until sap wears off lol

I had a hard time turning in the quest, even spamming the key didnt work. But when i logged out then in and tried again it worked twice then got stuck and so i logged out and in and it worked again right away. Also try doing it without a pet, that might be bugging it too.

Noticed a bug while doing this quest. As a leveling rogue, in heavily populated areas like this I generally pull with a ranged weapon. Now, wether it's the weapon that's bugged or some glitch as of 3.0.8 I do not know. But I know this, using the Warbling Crossbow and shooting the Onslaught Knight while he is mounted, does not make them attack you. I was confused the first time it happened so I repeated the action and the same thing happened continously on every Knight, throughout the entire doing of the quest.

Am I the only one who this has happened to?

We've all been making this harder than it really is.

First, target the rider and destroy him--not the horse.
Loot the rider and pick up the reins.
Right click the reins and then the warhorse to mount him.
The horse's "console" will appear, and you will immediately notice the horse's picture on the console.
Ride the horse into Venomspite to the questgiver.
Do not dismount the horse with the "arrow" button. Instead click the picture of the horse. This effectively hands over the reins to the questgiver.

Do keep in mind that the horse is still attacking you, so distance yourself from it accordingly.

That's all there is to it!

One of the funnier quests in the game.

You can CC the horse or the knight independtly. This means that if you hibernate/polymorph/something else the horse, the knight is frozen in place and cannot actively move to attack you, meaning you can just nuke freely without being interrupted.

This quest has multiple glitches.. I will name the ones i know of below

Infinite aggro range glitch: If you mount up on a warhorse while another knight is attacking you they will follow you nomatter how far away you go. The knight followed me nomatter how far away i went until i dismounted.

Invisible attacker (CAN OCCUR OUTSIDE OF THE QUEST): While this can happen outside of the quest it happeens most often during the quest. After killing the rider and mounting on the horse you will sometimes find your self being attacked by an invisible being who is untargetable. This attacker will follow you and can be outran. Turning around wll likely cause you to run into it. Pets do not attack this thing and it is very annoying when inside of the base outside of the quest as you will need to run far enough away or it wont stop attacking you. It usually originates from wherever the horse was when the rider was killed

Dead Rider: Sometimes when you kill the rider you will kill it so fast that it wont have time to actually get off the mount. Targeting the knight will say that it is dead, The knight however will be still using the mounted animation. You can still mount the warhorse and it rather funny to see this. usually the invisible attacker glitch will occur when this happens.

Not being turned in (This glitch may have been fixed as i have not yet seen it occur in a while): When attempting to hand in the horse it will not work for some reason. You will usually have to spam press the hand in button or say /cast hand in horse.

Thats all the ones i've found so far.

I've been trying for about twenty minutes, and I don't seem to be able to do this quest at all. I kill the rider, another one respawns in its place. I kill that rider, and the horse remains hostile (red) and I can't seem to coerce it to do a thing. The one time that I was able to kill the rider and have the horse turn friendly, it suddenly despawned for absolutely no reason.

For Death Knights, if you Death Grip the Knight, it won't send them to you, but he'll run over. Then you kill him, and he doesn't fall off. If you mount, you'll be inside the knight! (Or they'll be inside you, depending on your race) and when you hand it in, a knight is on the horse, a knight gets sprayed with poison, and a knight is riding a Deathcharger. Pretty sick.

a helpful way to do this as a Frost Mage is to have your water element attack the horse itself, move to the side and kill the knight. He wont attack you as long as your ele doesnt kill the horse first. After you kill the knight, horse goes friendly and knight almost always drops the reins. This makes for some easy stealing :)

This quest seems bugged like hell for me.
After killing the knight, I would continue to take damage even though the horse was friendly, and after turning in the final horse and completing the quest, I took hits for 300-400 until I died.
Kinda ^&*!ed me off.

Pro-Tip: In the entrance to hearthglen, there are two mounted knights. Aggro one, kill the rider, loot his crop, and mount the horse. Now aggro the other one while on your horse and run back to the turnin spot (make sure you take the short route slightly to the left). The knight will follow you all the way back. Turn in your horse and kill the one following you. Two birds with one stone.

Knight can be sapped, and horse will still walk/run around or attack you with the sapped guy on it. The only difference is, Horse will be attacking, not the knight... that is so funny!

When I mounted my first warhorse, I noticed that my action bars were all messed up and I couldn't figure out how to get a horse to Hansel. After a couple of failed attempts to return a horse, I disabled all my mods. I think it was the Titan panel mods that were the problem, but I disabled everything 'just in case'. The next time, the mounted action bar came up properly and I could click on the 'return horse' icon.

This happened to me as well when im doing this quest today, when this happens, after u reach Hansel Bauer, the quest giver, to turn in, press "Ctrl + 1" to hand in the horse.
