There are several issues, like while shapeshifted you cannot ride Keristrasza, thus you have to wait for the quest items to cooldown, so that you can start again. Then when you are finished, and you land the quest doesn't complete, I've flown around 3 times now, and nothing.

First try --- was mounting as she took off. "You are busy and cannot use taxi."
Second try --- landed and did not move, quest did NOT complete.
Third try --- landed and RAN immediately to her. When she said "Hurry, Bootrick, flee!" the quest completed

also won't work if someone else has started this step right before you -- a separate dragon summons for you but the quest doesn't finish... it seems to stall out over the fact that the corpse is already on fire. if this happens, wait for the cooldown and use it again, should work fine then :)

This happened to me. On my third attempt I logged out as soon as I mounted Keristrasza.
When I logged back in I finished the flight and the quest completed BEFORE I dismounted.

If you have problems with this quest (due to crowds), just wait till dragon take off and fire flare. You will be next :)

And after landing, wait till quest is finished next to Keristrazsa, else nothing happens and you can fly again.

EDIT dont forget to get rid of any shapeshift forms like shadowform or druid ones, tried twice before I figured out whats wrong and why quest wont finish.

took about 4-5 tries for me. the time it worked i saw a message from her i never saw previously (perhaps need to be quite close, and quickly get there) with basically her telling me to flee quickly, to live to finish what we've begun. this is before malygos spawns.

I just completed this at 25, 21 up above in the top section.

Also, make sure the Dragon isn't up when you launch your rocket thing. If you use it when its up, it will not work. I had to wait 2 minutes for the cool down on the item

Ok one problem I had as a hunter was that my pet was out. Dismiss your pet then try it again. As stated:

1. Fire flare
2. Don't move and get and wait for dragon to take you up
3. Relog while in flight
4. After it lands, run towards her immediately

make sure no pets, no buffs. worked for me when I did that.

2 times I could not complete, despite running up to her immediately. I then removed the druid buff I had on and my aura and got complete. So do debuff.

very important how to do the quest:

the quest bugs if someone after you uses the flare. there must be at least a 10 second intervall to use the next flare.

If you are a druid, be in caster form. Else you will get the so loving message "Cant take taxi while being shapeshifted". This also apply to anybody "costumed".

Also, after you land, quickly move back to her, else the quest wont complete. (And to make sure it work, left-click and right-click on her, just to be sure).

Well this is an annoying quest. Had to do it a couple of times.

1. Go to 25,23... You should be standing outside of a giant stone door...
2. if there are other ppl doing this quest wiat for the dragon to fly away before you click the flare....
3. once you do the fly over, make sure you run up to the dragon the second after you have landed...
4. You'll see a message like... " Hurry, NAME! Flee! Live to finish what we've begun here....."
5. Quest Completed

Seems to work. Though I ran forward first then twards her at the end.

I'm starting to get a little bothered by these quests.

First there was the quest where I had to go kill these dudes, pickup their weapons, and use their own weapons to kill their babies.

Then there was the quest to go kill Malygos's wife.

Now this quest has you go, and drop her dead body outside his house, while the red dragon chick comes up and is all like:

Keristrasza: MALYGOS, WE KILLED YO WIFE!
*uses fire breath on the body*
Keristrasza: AND WE SET HER ON FIRE!
*turns to you*
Keristrasza: Ok, lets get the F**k out of here.

Tried it serveral times while in group of 3. We attempt to leave the group and "solo" the flight, turned out to work just fine.

Oh and yeah, we also "ran" when he told us to...

So it's either of those that probably causes this error.

Took me 5 try's, plus watching other people. It looks like the problem is due to Malgos not being re-set from the previous person that causes the quest to not complete.

You'll know you got it if you see Malgos yell "Saragosa! What has become of you". If you don't see that line, you wont get a completion.

As far as I can tell, there isn't any way to know if Malgos is reset or not, so if there is a crowd of people doing the quest you're probably better off just skipping it until there isn't anybody there. Otherwise, you're likely to be like me and so many others, and do it multiple times.

So to recap, it doesn't matter what tricks you pull (running in, buff's etc). If you dont see the line "Saragosa! What has become of you". You WILL NOT complete the quest.

There is a chance that logging out during flight might reset things and let you complete the quest anyway, but I can't test that.

If there is someone else doing the quest ahead of you and they are in the middle of the cut scene the quest will not complete since the dragon wont spawn for you.

So basically if there is a bunch of ppl lining up to do the quest, only every second person will complete it.

You summon her, stand right next to her, do not move or you will fail and she will fade away. You fly all over the place, then you land and you run right next to her immediately.

Malygos comes down and says:
Malygos yells: "Keristrasza you've bested my consort... now YOU will replace her!"

*gets frozen in a block of ice. Malygos flies away. No quest complete*

finally i was able to get this quest completed.

I did try the logging out in flight method; but I don't know if this even helped.

however, there was no second dragon at the landing site, right before landing I was prompted with a Quest Completion message.

When you get down on the ground, she drops you off a bit behind her. What worked for me, was to run up to her as soon as we landed. That got me close enough to hear her remarks, which (apparently) triggered the Quest Completed for me.

The current bug with this quest has nothing to do with buffs or pets, but rather has to do with the player before you. Spending time watching the LANDING point will confirm the issue.

In ideal conditions, Keristrasza will not yet be at the landing point. Upon landing you receive the text telling you to flee. In this case, your quest will compete. However the quest Pauses at this point and does not progress. Keristrasza just stands around.

The NEXT person to land will trigger the quest to complete, but will not get credit. They'll simply see Malygos enter the event and the event will end. They will not get credit. Since the event has now ended, and Keristrasza is gone, the NEXT person will complete.

If you have a "spotter" watch the landing point and tell you when someone Succeeds and allow for the next person to launch in front of you, you are guaranteed a successful event.

This means that the quest currently has a 50% failure rate. I am certain Blizzard will address the issue in a coming patch.

Completed it with buffs and without logging out.
The quest completed just before I landed.

How did I do it?
I logged in at 6 am in the morning while everyone is asleep and no one was in Coldarra.

This confirms the theories about a scripted quest not beeing able to complete/function properly at all with several other people attempting the quest. There are more examples of similar scripted quest in Howling Fjord and other places.

Lets hope Blizzard fixes this in a future patch.

There is a huge problem with this quest often not being marked as complete after you finish it. The short answer is it often won't complete if there are other people doing it ahead of you and you should just try again until it does.

Now the long answer: There is a ton of misinformation here about what you need to do to get the quest to complete. There is not really a "bug" in the quest and taking off buffs, dismissing pets, logging in and out or moving a certain way after landing will not help in the slightest. It's basically just luck so when it works people assume that whatever they did must have fixed the problem.

Here's what's going on:

When you start the quest you fire a flare and Keristrasza appears and runs through her script. This takes around 90 seconds. As everyone quickly figures out, no one else can summon Keristrasza until the previous person's Keristrasza has despawned. The instant Keristrasza despawns and is replaced by a mount that takes the first quest-giver away the next person can summon her. So if you are trying to win the flare contest with a long line of questers, fire the instant she fades out to be replaced by the mount version.

As other people have correctly noted, you will not continue with the mount part of the quest if you cannot mount at that time (shapeshifted or already mounted or in combat).

The second part of the quest involves flying around and looking at things.

The third part of the quest works just like the first part but it's much less obvious because you're not directly controlling it. What happens is you land and then Keristrasza appears, tells you to run and then gets captured by Malygos. This seems to take a variable amount of time – sometimes it happens right away, sometimes it seems to take a few minutes. The important part is that, just like at the start, when you land the Keristrasza that appears is "your" Keristrasza and only one Keristrasza can be spawned at a time. The issue therefore is if you land and someone else's Keristrasza is still going through her script (even with just a second left), your Keristrasza will fail to spawn and you won't complete the quest. What happens is one person starts the script and the next two people in line (who are running through the first part as fast as possible) fail to complete the quest while the first person's script runs. Repeat.

As you can see, whether or not you complete the quest is entirely due to luck – whether or not the previous person's Keristrasza is still up. If she is, you just have to try again.

Due to the apparent variability in the time it takes the final script to run I don't think it's that useful to try to time your run but it may be possible. You'd need a friend over there telling you what was going on…

It's not really a bug so much as bad design. If you were to do the quest when no one else had done it in the past 5 minutes it would complete every time. That's why this wasn't discovered in Beta and the issue will largely go away when the initial rush of the expansion is over but you'll still see it when you've got a group going through the quests together.

Take from this what you will. Me and a mate did it in 2 different methods.

His method.
Start as normal (no-one there, corpse not on fire). Log out mid flight, no buffs. Stood still when landing. Quest complete (first try).

My method.
Start as normal (no-one there, corpse not on fire). Stayed logged in. Had buffs (spec. Gift of the wild and well fed). Ran to dragon when landed. NOT complete.

Than I did his (logged, no buffs) and got it in that method.

I tried 3 times and finally got quest completed after logging out in flight.

I didn't get a quest completed message though, and the scene finished when the dragon you fly on gets frozen in the ice block and says "NEVER!"

It took me about 30 minutes to find the place WITH someone else's coordinates. Here's a tip: It's not at the entryways down in the pit, it's another entryway up top, a bit of a ways from the center of the place.

When you fire the flare, she'll appear outside of the doorway, so be sure and turn around for everything.

I had no issues doing this quest, Im pretty sure they fixed it. I used the flare, flew around, then landed. A few seconds after landing I completed the quest and then Malygos showed up and froze her. Simple. And I didnt do any of the wierd stuff people are talking about like logging mid flight or cancelling buffs etc.

Could anyone transcript what happened after the quest completed? Keristrasza told me to flee and then remained there until despawn some minutes later. Next thing I know she's supposed to be in the Nexus?

I think the script stopped working after my quest got completed. Annoying, as I wanted to know what happens next!

when you land she should say

"Keristrasza says: Hurry, Hópe! Flee! Live to finish what we've begun here...."

And you get the quest completed line. Then

"Malygos yells: Keristrasza! You've bested my consort... and now YOU shall take her place!
Keristrasza yells: Never!"

and she is iceblocked and taken away.

The quest has a new bug. he never iceblocks her, so she doesnt despawn. So if you go all the way around and there is a Keristrasza standing there from a different quest she wont give you the 'flee' message. But you will trigger the iceblock. So go back and do it again and hop someone else didnt do it just before you again. Took me 6 tries.

I've done this a dozen times with three toons so far.

This last time, Malygos didn't say anything or even appear; She told me to run, and the quest completed. She bugged at that point, as Malygos didn't show up. (The next person would have failed.)

If you see her on the ground as you're coming in for a landing, you (probably) won't complete. If she's not there, you probably will.

Once it took me six tries to complete. The other two took three tries.

i tried everything to get this quest to complete, and what finally did it is when i ran over to Keristraza IMMEDIATELY after dismounting and stood in her "target circle" until malygos spawned. that was the only way i could get the quest to complete

I didn't get a quest completion even with no one else running the event. She appeared when she was supposed to at all times and it still didn't complete. I stood still at all times. I was not mounted. Etc. etc. and it still didn't complete.

I'm sorry, this is a bug. There is no way they designed it to do this. Their intention was for it to complete every time and it does not. Bug.

EDIT: Got bored, tried the logout thing, didn't work. I just dismissed my ghoul, and am going to avoid looking the screen at all and saying random prayers in hopes of the quest completing. And I misspelled Keristrasza.

How many of these quests have we druids had to repeat because Blizzard requires that we be unshapeshifted without warning? Arrrgh! We unshapshif automatically when we get on a FP, is it to hard to do this on quests at well. Sheesh!

Note here if you are a user of the QuestHelper addon: the co-ordinates that the mod gives are wrong as at the time of this post. The addon send you to the west side of the Nexus were you LAND-not start the quest. The item to start the quest is near the northern entrance to the nexus: not far from the passageway to the Raid portal. Co-ordinates are given here by other users.

If you don't have co-ordinates, go through the 4 way entrance at the top-center of the Nexus. You will pass the portal leading to the raid. Follow the North path and go through the entrance and the fire will be directly in front of you. Can't miss it.

I just had the WEIRDEST thing happen...

I have Cartographer_QuestInfo addon installed. I clicked where it said "Assault on Malygos complete", and went to where it showed up on the map (around 34,25). I saw nothing unusual there, so I came here to read the posts. I didn't get very far into them when I heard the "Quest Complete" music (I forget if an addon does that or if it's vanilla WoW). When I went back to the WoW window, it said I had completed the quest!

I am NOT grouped with anyone, and I have absolutely no idea why I got credit for it... but I won't look a gift horse in the mouth. :)

I've done this one on several chars and always I have had the known issue at least once on each toon. Today I did it again and got the Complete message when Keristrasza burned the corpse. Then followed the usual scripted event with the capture of here, but the quest was already completed. Guess one could say that it has been fixed now.

I've now run through this quest several times on multiple characters and still don't really understand the logic behind it.

They decide to lure Malygos from "his realm" and launch an all-out attack on him in that time with all their troops. They do this by angering him with the body of his "consort". So far, it sounds good.

However, despite all this, and despite Malygos being lured, they fail -- spectactularly.

They fail so badly that not only is Malygos not defeated, but he imprisons (and mind-controls into his slave) the Ancient Red Dragon who organized the whole thing with barely a thought. Yet there's no explanation as to why the Red Dragonflight would make such a monumental miscalculation, they just do...

Quest seems to have been changed since last I did it. Previously, Keristrasza would land with you far away, you ran to her quickly to recieve quest credit when she pulsed it. If you were not close enough, you didn't get completion.

As of just a few minutes ago when I did it on my newest toon to northrend, however, the quest credit was given out as soon as Keristrasza picks you up and takes you for a ride.

I don't know if they changed the quest AGAIN, but...

I was moving when it was time for lift-off at the bonfire, so I got the "you're moving"-message instead of getting a ride from Raelorasz. However, I also got the quest completed message, so on a whim I simply rode back to Transitus Shield and sure enough, I was able to complete the mission there.

Addendum: I went to do this quest with another character, and there was already someone doing it (from the opposite faction, no less). I waited for him to get it done, and when he jumped on Keristrasza's back, I got the quest completetion message, and was able to turn it in without having to go through the scripted events.

1. Open your map. Move your character so that the arrow representing your position is directly above the "N" and to the left of "The" in "The Nexus" on the map. The bundle of wood you have to light is outside, in the snow.
2. Light the bundle of wood using the item provided to you, Raelorasz' Spark.
3. Take your hands off your keyboard and mouse, sit back, and enjoy the show. After a few minutes of NPC dialog and a scene where you ride a dragon, you should complete the quest. You do not have to do ANYTHING.
4. Turn in the quest at Transitus Shield.

If someone else has just lit the fire, you're in luck - stay by the bundle of wood / Keristrasza (when she appears) and you'll get credit. However, the fire will stay lit for a minute or two (presumably the length of the flight) so you'll have to wait for it to go out if you see a fire going, but no one around.

The current patch for Quest helper is incorrect, "beachboy" is correct on how this needs to be done. You will be out in the snow and not under the Nexus when you do this. The signal flair looks like a cone shaped bundle of sticks or a what looks like an unlit "bond fire". The rest "beachboy" already discribed.

If you're a druid and are using a seperate addon for you're bars (Ex: Dominos or Bartender) you can leave vehicle when you get on Keristrasza and use your flight form and go turn in the quest completely ignoring the NPC dialog and show.

So you must have Northrend flying and your flight form to do this.

Just did this quest last night with someone else. They used the flair and got picked up by the dragon. Meanwhile the quest completed for me a few seconds after Keristrasza picked up the other person. So, while the other person in my group was doing the event, I was already flying to turn it in.

So if you see someone on the same quest, and your having trouble because you forgot to dismount/shapeshift, you can tag along with someone while your cooldown is waiting.

Unfortunately for me, there wasn't anyone to tell me what I'm about to write. I had to learn the hard way.

If you're going for the joyride on Keristrasza, and your dungeon finder queue pops up, well that's tough, because you can't take it! You are put into the group and can see your other four groupmates, however, you can't port. When trying to teleport to the dungeon, you simply get an 'You can't do that right now' error message. In an attempt to salvage my 25 minute wait time, I dismounted Keristrasza and tried the teleport function again mid-fall. Sadly, it didn't work, and I was given another error message, this time saying 'You can't do that while moving' (or some variant).

In the end, I fell to my death on one of those impossibly high up circular blue platforms that litter Coldarra, had to ressurect at the graveyard, and wasn't able to take the awfully long queue for DPS.

Lesson of the day....

I had to run the quest 2 times to get mine to complete.

This quest is NOT bugged; however, if there are several other people around also using their flares, you may have to redo the quest or wait for the crowds to leave. I used my flare at 26, 22. Stay close to Keristrasza when she lands to pick you up.
After she dropped me off, I did not move and completed the quest with no problems.

The two main causes of failure for this quest is:
1) too many people trying to do it at once
2) not staying close enough to Kerisrasza.

If you're in a group, each person in the group must do this quest individually. Take turns, be patient, and good luck.

second time I ran right under her when she landed, then I immediately got the completion update - ran out then she was iced

I didn't know about that, so after the cinematics, Keristasza just stood there doing nothing. I waited for many minutes, but nothing happened. And now, obviously I have to do the whole thing again. So listen to the warning: don't move after the cinematic, you will fail.

And still not completed. I stayed right with her. Took the ride on her. She landed and got ice blocked while I was right with her. Then she vanishes and it doesn't complete. WTF?

I spent ages crawling around below trying to work out where the entrance was, then I realised it was above me, so climb back up paths and just circle around until you find bridge.

Use the flare right outside the entrance to the Nexus bridge at 26,22.

After the cinematic, make sure you're RIGHT on top of Keristasza and don't move or she won't pick you up and carry you to the next part of the quest.

You now get a torch and have to light the fire just slightly north of the entrance. Rest of the quest works I take it more or less the same but I spent ages trying to work out why I had no flare an what to do with the torch. Just stand next to the upright pile of sticks and right click the torch, shortly after the dragon will land. Then follow the rest of the notes above.
