One of the quest to recover the 4 vrykul artefacts. In order to get this quest, you must have finished "Scoodles".

The staff is located at the end of the hold, but beware, Abdul the Insane guards the deck.

Once you have finish the 4 quests, Orfus gives you the final part of the quest chain : A Return to Resting.

as a lvl72 ret pally in quest greens, i solo'ed the elite guy. So if ur a ret pally, you might have a chance to kill the guy

I dont remember the name of the other quest, but I remeber I went there previously to grab some items, also the npcs remembers you, isuldof laughs when you return his heart, and other tells you your eforts are wasted because his brothers has awoken.

Soloed the elite guy as a lvl 73 DK. Don't bother, he respawns in 5 seconds :p

Hi, this quest just saves you from all playing. I met Insane Abdul at the deck of the boat in 35,64. Then this elite killed me. Then I came back as a ghost, walked all the stairs down to the very end of the rear the lowest deck of the boat. Then I returned back to life because that option was still available? Then I grabbed the staff and used my Hearthstone to Kamague. Don't tell Blizzard because they may fix this easy 20100XP(when 200%)

If you are a Mage, use your Invisibility as soon as he's near the top of the ship. Run like hell to the bottom of the ship. Invisibility will release shortly before you get to the staff.

Grab the staff and then use your Mana Shield until you get near the top of the steps. You'll see yourself drawing a tiny bit of aggro once he's at the top of the ship again. Use Invisibility when you can (yes, be patient... it has a 3 min cooldown) and then run like hell. If you aggro him, just jump off the ship into the water (on the side away from the guards).

I swam all the way to the other shore. It only took me a minute, and I was able to use the Westwind Lift (near the Ancient Lift, where you turn the quest in). Perfect! ;)

I'm a level 70 squishy mage. No way in hell would I do this without Invisibility and/or a Level 80 tank friend.

At level 70, I just waited until he went onto the top deck, then ran down into the hold, grabbed it, and ran out. He didn't aggro. No invis or anything, though it would have made me feel better, had I had one. =)

Pwnt him as a level 71 warlock.... just dot him and keep channeling life to your void or felguard...

It takes over 2 minutes to kill him but its an easy fight

EDIT: when you beat him, be sure not to be so proud of yourself that you get on WoWhead and leave a comment saying how you solo'ed him immediately.... He respawns fast and can kill you if you are, say, typing out a comment on WoWhead.

Abdul can't be mind controlled.

The guy wasnt a problem as a 71 blood DK. Kill him, ran down, loot the staff, back, and WTF! he is there again! So i just jumped down, Path of Frost, and run away... not a hard quest.

yeah i tryed to kill him with my 70 paladin i almost got him but i died cause i had like 4 other gaurds on me but if you die respawn at the bottom of the ship go to the last deck and the staff is there if you dont die and you dont wanna kill abdul wait until he is on the top top deck then go under to the bottom deck.

If you kill Abdul first and then loot the staff....he respawns. So don't bother. Learned this the hard way as a 63 Dk.

got him to 30k life, and then he killed me

I tried to solo this with my lvl 71 pally dwarf, and i gave it everything i had, including a fish feast, but i still could not get him down below about 20K health before he killed me. i will add that if you have health bars above their heads, you can watch him pat to the top deck "through" the wall.

remember guyz.--u dont need to kill him,,u can ninja avoid him and go below deck and there loot the staff...i killed him cause i saw the staff in his hands but lol the joy after 2 deaths when i realized he doesnt actually ''hold'' the staff...

Did what mart said, waited til Abdul was on the back deck of the ship, bolted below (minion on passive), grabbed the staff, waited til he was on the other end of the ship from me, and jumped off into the water (opposite the shore). Lvl 72 aff lock, with vw. Didn't have to fight at all.

invis/stealth on the ramp and go to the bottom of the ship in the back. There are slaver guards but the elite seems to stay up top.

Be careful- there's a really tough elite guarding the ship. I'm a reasonably geared 70 shaman (just out of BC) and with my earth elemental tanking, my lightning bolts were barely even budging his health.

It' simple, really. Wait on the plank until Abdul walks to the far right, to the upper portion of the deck. At that point, go onto the ship, down into the cargo hold beneath him, all the way to the back of the shi to find the sword. Head back up, make sure the coast is clear before heading out the door to the main deck, and head left to exit via the plank again. If he spots you as you exit, RUN! He'll only follow so far before giving up chase.

This is on the ship near the crazed north slavers. Yeah, that big ship with all the lightning coursing through it.

This is another one of those sneak around the elite baddie quests. As ripped and spicy as Abdul may be, hes also a nutball and any level 70 has a good chance of dying on this one. I stood about halfway down the ship's ramp and I continued to move onto the ship keeping a good distance from him. When he got to the far right (on the area above the cabin door) I ran into the door and down the stairs. He didnt notice me. The Staff is on the lower most level of the ship. Nothing will bother you, all the sailors on the ship have been killed. Just pick up the staff and head out. If Abdul notices you make a break for it. For me, I saw he was on the far left side of the ship furthermost away from the cabin door (standing near the ramp) when I went to exit...so i just jumped off the side of the boat and swam under it. Very easy. Another option is to freeze trap him if you are a hunter. But this doesnt leave you with a lot of time.

Soloed him after a couple of deaths as a feral druid, and then found out he doesn't have the staff and respawns immediately as others have said. If you want to solo him though take him up onto the top deck. When you get low health jump off the gangplank side and heal up while he runs all the way to you, then take him back up there. Rinse and repeat. Just over 2k xp rested at lvl 71. If you jump off the other side of the ship he resets.

Those artifacts are cursed and you'd be crazy to go looking for them, <race>. I know for certain that anyone that's come into direct contact with any of those items has either gone mad or been killed.

Take that staff, for example. Last I heard the ship that held it was abandoned and left to rot on the coast of the Isle of Spears, north of here.

If you want that thing, check the ship's hold.

Whatever you do, don't bring that staff back here! And steer clear of Abdul! He'll tear your heart out.
