They are glowing spores around the Twisted Glade (55,16). Use the ice core in your inventory, freeze it, attack. It'll become unfrozen, so stop DPS and refreeze it. If you kill it when it's not frozen, you will not get credit for it.

Try to avoid using DoTs, as they'll kill the spore before the cooldown on the ice crystal is up.

To save time, you don't have to freeze the spore, then re-freeze it. You can just go all-out DPS until it gets low on HP, freeze it, then kill it for credit.

As well as freezing it once it's low on HP - if you have a pet, put your pet on passive - I found I wasn't getting credit when my ghoul was landing the killing blow.

Quest appears to be bugged in the latest build. The keepers cast the summon spore spell but the spores don't show up.

Comments above seems slight misleading. All I did was nuke the spores then cast the freeze thingie, and it was done. Tonns of emm where evading though.

Quest is currently bugged in live.

1) Find spores that aren't bugged/evading
2) Kill them
3) Use Ice Core on corpse of Spore
4) Repeat until quest is finished

Edit: Fixed spelling error.

Edit Again: It seems that the quest may be fixed on all realms as of Nov 18/08. All spores should be behaving correctly now, and not evade bugging. So, just omit step one, and continue on with the quest as normal.

Edit for a third time: I've personally tested this and I can confirm that the quest is now working as intended. The spores are no longer bugged.

I have a theory, since they don't move and they only have that spore cloud spell, when someone tries to attack them from range they go into evade mode and get stuck in it, so whatever class you are, always try to start attacking them from melee range, see if that works. Of course, there's nothing to do about the ones already bugged.

Comfirmed, You have to kill the Spore then use, Enchanted Ice Core. But the spore with missing health will become evade and you wont be able to kill the spores . Cords 52,16

Definitely a frustrating quest. There's obviously the evasion bug which sucks but I had a problem with freezing them. After they were down I'd click on them and hit the ice core to freeze them but it came up as an invalid target. That happened twice and then it worked ok after that.

If you send your demon/pet at the spores the pet will only attack if the spore is unbugged.

Ok after trial and error I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT. Just kill the spore completely. It will pop out this little spore ball on the ground. Retarget that and then freeze the spore ball.

OK, so this is it.

Attack the spores that have full health. The other ones evade.

Once dead use the ice thing in bag on corpse.

Basically just look for ones that have 100% HP, they are the ones that are not Bugged. MUST HAVE 100% HP.

Secondly, make sure you dont kill any annoying adds right on top of them, as you will cover the corpse and be unable to target it to get credit... can be frustrating.

As a hunter here is what worked best for me after finding no Spores with full health:
1) Find a few that are together with low health
2) Explosive trap one to death while killing the mobs around it for the other quest
3) When that spore dies, if it hasn't been tapped you can freeze its corpse.
4) Wait for respawn

I got 3 in the same area and just alternated killing them with the explosive trap and then killing the respawn.

I'm the hunter from an earlier comment regarding Explosive Traps. I did this quest again and found that while mobs weren't completely glitched like before (my wife was on her Hunter this time and was offering to come up and use our little trick), there were still mobs that were gray. The only real problem was that there was no one around doing it, so it seems like you can still lock them in place.... You can kill them fine though, but they remain tapped, so you'll obviously still need to find mobs that aren't already claimed.

Skipped this at first because of the Evade bug, came back to it at 80, just killed them, then froze the little ball corpses. took 5 mins

Had no problems with evades.

Easy way to kill as a rogue and take almost 0 damage from spore cloud-
Wait until the spore cloud bar decreases to about 3/4, then cheap shot, most of the time this will hit the spore as the cloud fades and before it creates a new one. Hold it in a stun lock with kidney shot, hit it just as cheap shot fades. Right when kidneyshot fades back off from the spore, wait for a few seconds and you will leave combat but the spore will NOT heal. Re enter stealth and do it again. Should save plenty of time from healing.

Im not sure if blizzard meant for this, or if it is a bug they will fix, but the spores do not heal if you leave combat. They also remain tapped. I had half the field tapped by someone else =c

If you click on them and see if they are greyed out as though someone else already tagged them before you attack. I was getting a message saying they were already tagged when I tried to freeze them.....

Once you kill them they explode leaving no bodies to freeze, tried killing them before they died but failed.
All I can say is that this is BUGGED!

Even reading this I still missed the important part, for me it wasn't bugged but I couldn't see how to freeze them to complete it. The key is as skulfap mentions "the little ball corpses" they are seriously easy to miss!

Did this today (lock, with VW pet). Appeared to be bugged, as I was dotting at a distance. Corpses disappearing.

So instead I meleed and dotted. Result: 100% success rate. Ranged, pile in there, no more bug.

Interupt does work on the spores only spell so for any class with interupt this quest is easy. also as of 3.0.8 i tried ranging down (takes a long time as a DK) and meleeing the spores, does not seem to be bugged anymore

After you kill the spores, there will be a small golden ball that appears on the ground after the spore explodes. Click the golden ball, that's the corpse, and then use the stone.

The Quest is working fine now but one thing to remember the corpse these spores leave is a tiny yellow circle on the ground that is hard to see unless you are looking for it. And its ovious but must be said its that tiny corpse that must be selected for the freeze to work.

i tried it today as a frost mage, im finding the corpse, and have done this as other toons totally fine. but when i do this as my frost mage it just procs deep freeze, freezes it, and i dont get credit toward the Q. as im dual specced for fire/frost, i changed spec and tried again, and still procced deep freeze somehow. something screwy is going on. i guess ill have to find someone to group with and hope they can do it, and ill get credit for being in the same group as them.

edit. turns out i didnt leave the raid i was in earlier in the day, found out i was still in the raid group despite it being hours ago. serves me right for being unobservant.

IF you get the "Target is Tapped" error you can "fix" it by letting that spore cloud hit you, aka you have to get close enough to get the poison effect on you before you can kill it and be allowed to use the icecore on it

Be aware that when you kill them they turn into a little orange ball. I couldn't spot them at first so I thought it was bugged lol.

Note: Do not follow the Blizzard Questhelper. They have it set to kill Cyclothar and earn the spores frozen from him.

This is a misdirect that's targeting PVP taurens and Wind Tamers before targeting Cyclothar which is near impossible without a 5-man or level 80 doing the job.

The correct mobs are confirmed at 51,74. They are the orange fuzzy spores you kill, then type /target Spore if you can't see them. Then use the freeze ray on it.

its like this, the corpse is a little tiny ball. You CAN target it no matter what...

Its not glitched, its just too small for most to see...

Put on your glasses and it might help you...

okay, i will admit i have had problems when another mob dies in the same spot, but no biggie....

The Questhelper map still targets Cyclothar and mousing over the mob shows him as the target for Freezing the Spores. Much to my surprise, I found out the locals don't take kindly to Allies! Now, my toon is a lvl 80 fairly well-geared fury warrior, and I barely escaped by the skin of my teeth.

Interestingly, the Wowhead entry for Cyclothor here shows him as the ojective of the spore quest. However the commentary indicates he is not, as per above.

I just had a horrible time doing this quest. It seemed like 4 out of 5 spores would just evade all attacks. I noticed that if the spore was at 100% life that one would probably take damage. Something to look for if anyone else is having the same problem.

I can't figure out how to do this quest. The quest says, "Once you've destroyed a spore, use the ice crystal to freeze it and keep it from regenerating."

When I destroy (kill) a spore, it poofs into a cloud of dust and then disappears. When I try to use the crustal, it says I have no target; which is true because as soon as the spore is dead, it disappeared. I tried using it on a spore once its health got low, but it says invalid target. How did folks handle it who successfully completed the quest?

Hello,

when you kill a spore it does not disapear in the puff of smoke. Only reduce the size! Search for a very tiny brown spore on the ground.

It seems to bug out in WotLK Classic too in 2022.

What I learned is there might be a lot of already tapped spores around. I solved it by killing a bunch of them and letting them respawn at 100% HP. That seemingly let me able to freeze them after killing the new spawned ones at 100% HP, and being non grey flagged.

If you end up killing a creaper and he lands on top of a dead spore, good luck clicking on the dead spore.

Just wanted to point out the location of this quest in game and on here under “relevant locations” is slightly off. I got distracted and wondered off completing another quest nearby, and got lost trying to get back to this one!

On here and on the map in game it says the quest is in Camp Winterhoof, when actually it’s a little bit more down south outside of that camp Co-ordinates: 52.73, 20.11

The glade to the northwest, now the Twisted Glade, used to be home to a number of keepers of the glade. Together with the sisters, they saw to the glade's upkeep.

When the glade changed, the sisters died, but somehow the keepers managed to survive. Now, they seed the land with poisonous spores that wither healthy greenery.

I'll give you one of the cores from the ice elementals. Once you've destroyed a spore, use the ice crystal to freeze it and keep it from regenerating.
